Sorry for making this topic but I have a problem that make me really sad.
The problem is,
when I go to about device/update, there is an update (45mb or something) available. I can download it with no problems.
I can install it and the phone reboots. But now the problem occurs. He is installing the update but when it reach 25% it stops, an Android with a red cross appear and the phone go to the login screen (pin code). When I'm back on my home screen a pop up displays a text that I must try with KIES or go to a Samsung centre.
But I can't use KIES because it says that my device firmware isn't compatible.
I have rooted my Galaxy Note II N7100 in the past with the FRAMAROOT one click root app and has do the following (mod) things:
- Xpose multi window mod
- installed the Nexus camera with photosphere function. (no flash)(just placed the apk and the lib in the folders manually
- Lucky patcher
- place some galaxy s4 apk like storyalbum but never overwrite existing things in system/apps
- I have downloaded freedom but I have deleted it forced stopped it and deleted data
I have unistall the xpose mod with in app options + total clean up.
I chose the Unroot option in framework.
I never installed or flashed my phone in the past. So I have the stock rom
I'm very scared of flashing my device (with PC Software) because I really won't lose any of my data.
I just want to install that update without losing data. It make me feel very sad.
I CAN download the update but if I install it, it stops at 25%
please help.

Remove all system apps that weren't there by stock. Also replace overwritten ones (if any) with factory versions. Remove Nexus camera from system apps too. Xposed shouldn't affect anything. I have no idea what Lucky Patcher or Freedom is, so can't tell if it's them.
Thanks for your reply!
Must I also delete the lib files. for example when I installed S translate I must also copy some data to the lib folder to get it works properly.
If so I have a little problem because I won't remember with file is added and wich one is stock.
And I dit also the music mod (make phone loader)
I hope this will 100% work.
Thanks

@wada7o:
It this a save method?
I have heard that you must wipe data and I want to keep all my data.
And I have heard stories about broken boot loops. Sounds very bad.
And after all this, is there a way to get rid of all that odin and root stuff so I can receive new OTA updates in the future?

It's perfectly safe to flash firmware with Mobile Odin, done it multiple times. No need to wipe as long as you're going from stock rom to stock rom. Never had a bootloop myself!
And as for getting rid of root stuff, that'd include wiping your phone, sadly.
As said its 100% safe method no wipe required as long as keeping counter 0 and system normal using triangle away you will get ota update

okay, thanks to wada7o my update is finally installed, thanks
But now I have another annoying problem.
When I go to about device / update , I got an error with the text 'unable to update firmware due network or server error. Try again later or use KIES'
No I can't download the great jellybean 4.2 in the future.
How to fix this. The future jellybean update is very important for me.
And does the mobile odin thing works with this future update (Android 4.1.2 to Android 4.2.2)?

Isn't it easier just to flash new ROM with Odin?
If your device has been rooted, you can't update it via OTA or KIES. You can look for Dr.Ketan post. He got the newest updates for GNote 2.

i have a T989, rooted, Clockwork Mod, and installed some stock Android (sans bloatware) MOD.
i had updates set to automatic and am now being bugged to install the new TMobile update, which doesn't seem to be able to install with Clockwork, and i can't turn off the persistent Update prompts.
i've already bricked one GS2, and obviously fear doing it again. I wouldn't get another chance, i don't think. (i do have insurance on the phone, not sure if it would cover a rooted phone?)
what can someone tell me about the TMobile update and Clockwork, or whatever i need to do, go with the update or stop it somehow...?
thanks for your help.
Ota update requires stock recovery.
Grab one of the updated stock roms and flash via cwm. Then Odin the new baseband.

i think i have one of those stock roms - i chose one that was just 'the same thing but without some of the standard apps'. how can i check to see what rom i have...?
and what do you mean by baseband? the new update? is it already dl'd to my phone? i've searched through the phone's dirs (rooted File Explorere, i guess) and could not find anything...
sorry to be a pain - i can't brick another one, of course... (
is this what you mean by a 'stock updated rom':

ok, found Deodexed_KL1_T989 (T989UVKL1 by Whitehawkx) is that what i'm looking for? -
couple of questions:
he says on the post:
"DONT FLASH - add files to the zip in the app folder, then flash. Or usb connect drag to sd the use some rooted file explorer to place in system/app then reboot."
Flash or don't Flash? I'm transferring the zip to sd now, then i need to move it to system/app...?
once i've 'flashed' what do you mean "Odin the baseband"? i have Odin, used it last time...
thanks

I flashed the ROM, now i have 2.3.6, and now i'm stuck with 2 OTA notifications, one states postponed, and choosing START for the update does nothing.
help?
I had the base load on mine with a bunch of stuff frozen and Clockwork on it (plus root)
I first unfroze all the stuff I had frozen, then ODIN'd back the stock recovery. Didn't touch anything else, then told the OTA to go ahead.
It updated just fine -- removed root of course. I then ODIN'd back the clockwork recovery and re-installed SU, then re-froze all the boatware.
Done in about 15 minutes -- no muss, no fuss, didn't lose anything.

You can probably clear this up by formatting /system in CWM. Then wiping cache and dalvik. Then flash the FL1 update. Hit advance, fix permissions and then reboot.

did all this, nothing's changed. i'm unable to get Odin to see my phone in DL mode. when i boot into DL mode, the device manager shows an alert on my phone. in normal, the drivers work fine and Odin sees the phone.
damn.
I keep getting notified that an update is available. I know it is the one that nukes unified search, so I don't want it.
How do I get the notifications to stop, without installing it. Also what would happen if i accepted it on my rooted phone, would it brick the phone, or unroot it, or something in between?

You can't accept it rooted with custom recovery. If you have custom recovery you have to flash back the stock recovery, and I think you can flash the zip file located in the developer forum. You can get universal search back by then re-rooting, and re-installing CWM recovery. Download the apk for universal search found here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-galaxy-s-iii/187903-update-2-l710vplg2-2.html#anb
Then you will need to put the new apk file in your system/app folder (not sure it matters what you name it but to be save name it the same as the current one in there and delete the old one or just make it a .bak file). Then reboot. I think it will install automatically on reboot and you will get the functionality back. You may have some permission issues, if you do then you need to boot into CWM recovery and run fix permissions.
To answer your original question I don't know how to stop the annoying update reminder.
I believe it some you have to edit in the updater script for a permanent solution

Rooted my new Note 2 using the great toolkit simply to run Titanium backup as moving from an old phone.
Now when i go to the software updates i get the 'Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available' message.
I did have the insecure bootloader but have since flashed on the secure bootloader.
Looking around, i know i can triangle away and odin a stock rom but then i obviously lose all my apps and data again.
Does anybody know a way to keep my root and apps but still be able to do ota updates ?
1) Using Triangle Away and/or flashing ROM via PC Odin doesn't clear your apps and their settings, so if you will use same ROM as you have rooted now, all your apps should work
2) Dont panic and wait to update with something usefull for you, before reflash.

Have you actually tried triangle away? I use it but even then my device state still displays modified
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Yes. Me too.I use triangle away and install stock rom and wipe data and factory reset but system status in bootlader(Vol down + Home + power) still custom(counter 0,current binary samsung official) and menu setting -- About device -- status -- device status Modified.
I search triangle away (xda-developers).they answer
1.- On my SGS3/Note2/etc, Download Mode says my System is modified, and Triangle Away does not reset it
Triangle Away attempt to reset this status and block it from coming back, but it depends on the firmware. It works on the ALE8 firmware, try flashing that if you absolutely must reset this value.
Where is ALE8 Firmware (Full stock rom) for Note2 ? I can't find it?:crying:
2.- On the SGS3/Note2/etc, System->Settings->About device->Status still shows "Modified"
This is outside the scope of Triangle Away. The "system" status is not even always resettable in the bootloader. If you are going for warrenty, you need to also reflash a full stock firmware and wipe your device. If they boot up your device and find root apps, you're not going to get any warranty anyway. If you do such a full stock reflash and wipe, the "Modified" value will go away.
I try reflash Full stock firmware by download from sammobile.com and wipe but Modified still shows.:crying:
hi there...
1) make a titanium backup of user apps.
2)locate the backup files storage from a file explorer.
3) transfer it to a computer.
4)flash the latest firnaware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915386
5)install titanium backup
6)restore apps
I have root as well, only root, via CF-auto-root. I have no triangle, but in device status it does say modified. I tried checking for OTA, but it gives the same message.
Guess with every update I'll flash a new stock rom, kinda sad though.
That's the price for rooting the device.
As usual you go for custom rom thereafter,
Otherwise u unroot device.
I get the same message, HOWEVER, I haven't applied root out anything.
All I have done is applied 2 OTA updated in a row that required a reboot each time.
After the second one, I pressed "Check for updates" and I get this message.
What gives?

Fixed it

2) Rebooted using triangle away to reset counter
3) Used mobile odin to take a stock rom and root on the fly whilst also wiping data and cache (awesome)
4) Restored my apps and data again

I have Galaxy S3 (ATT), currently i'm stuck at 4.1.1. I can't update to 4.1.2 or 4.3.
I had my phone rooted by the Galaxy tookkit.
What I tried so far is.
1) recovered recovery back to stock (rooted stayed), update failed
2) used the toolkit to remove root, also removed busybox and superuser, toolkit put the clockwork recovery back in., update failed.
How can I update to 4.3?

I used this thread to get back to stock so my flash counter would be reset back to 0 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2363882
Then I used KIES recovery to reflash 4.1.1 just to be sure it was exactly what Samsung intended.
Then when i checked for OTA update (while on 4.1.1) it found one and took a while to download. When it installed the update, it was already to 4.3 - i guess it skipped the 4.1.2 official update.
I then did a master reset from the settings menu and deleted everything so that 4.3 could start fresh. I haven't had any problems with the stock 4.3.

I didn't factory reset before flashing because i knew that when I use KIES to do a recovery it will erase everything on the phone. However, I did wipe cache and dalvic in recovery beforehand... well, come to think of it, i probably did also wipe data before flashing the 4.1.1 that resets the flash counter.
Regarding backing up my files, I have all the files I need on an external sd card so all i have to do is take out the card. Plus, I also use Google Drive to store my pictures as I take them with the camera. no real need to back-up things because things are saved somewhere else, and not directly to the phone. I will probably use the phone storage more now, though since I won't be flashing anything for a while. Taking a break from flashing.
Hope it works out for you.

have you ever tried Helium? I was planning to use that for backup of my apps data.
last time I recovered/flashed phone was with Windows Mobile... so yeah really behind with all of this.
So if I first use helium for backup and then do factory reset, then flash the stock 4.1.1.
I know google account has all my contacts and calendar.
After I have the stock 4.1.1 back I should be able to update to 4.3 and from there restore the backup?

Never used Helium. I have use Titanium Backup before. It's widely used for backing up app data. You can get it in the Play Store. Make sure you don't try to restore system data - it will cause all kinds of trouble. I don't usually restore app data anymore - well, now that I'm on stock I can't, anyway. I always had some kind of issue, whether it be small or big, when I restored data. who knows, maybe I wasn't doing it exactly right.
I'm not sure if restoring apps from 4.1.1 to a 4.3 base would be safe or not. remember, if you try, that means you'll have to root the 4.3 and that will trip your warranty bit count off of zero, so if you're concerned about warranty, you shouldn't root. (if you upgrade to 4.3 stock, you can go to download mode and see that they now have included two flash counts: one to count custom binaries (that can be reset) and the other one called warranty bit, that no one here knows how to reset yet.)
according to Helium, it doesn't require root. I will make a backup just in case, just want my angry birds progress...
still at work, so I can't download the file (yet), so how exactly does this work, since it says you don't need odin?

After you download it, make sure it's on your internal sd card in the phone. Boot into ClockWorkMod recovery, wipe data/factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvic from the advanced menu, then flash the zip. that's it. near the end of the flash it will ask you if you want to keep root. i chose no since I knew I was going to be update to the official release. I've heard of people having problems trying to update OTA with root.
Just make sure that updating to 4.3 is what you want because it will limit what you can do with the device after you have the new bootloaders.

5. Press "Flash firmware package" then locate and select System.img.ext4. FlashFire will scan the .img which may take several minutes to complete. Press "ok" once the scan is complete then press the checkmark to continue.
6. Press "Flash firmware package" again then locate and select Cache.img.ext4. FlashFire will then scan the .img. Press "ok" once the scan is complete then press the checkmark to continue.
7. Press “(+)” once again to bring up “Actions” and select “Wipe.” Under the “Options” menu select all partitions except “Internal storage” then press the checkmark to continue.
8. From the main menu Tap-hold-drag your "Actions" and place them in the following order:
- "Wipe"
- "Flash firmware package"(system.img.ext4)
- "Flash firmware package"(cache.img.ext4)
- "Process Cache" (Use default settings).
- "EverRoot" (Use default settings).
9. Last, press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash.
The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flashes. Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the Samsung splash screen for about 3 - 4 minutes before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Notes:
1. You must already have a compatible custom kernel installed. Recommended Kernel: Lolli-Test-TW-07.02.2015 (source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-orig-develop/tw-lollipop-kernel-v1-t3024631).
2. After flashing I9505 firmware your wifi password may be forgotten upon reboot. To resolve this issue use ES File Explorer with root access enabled to edit the following build.prop line: ro.securestorage.support=true to "false"
3. You may also continuously receive an annoying security message. You can disable this message by using TiBu to freeze or remove the SecurityLogAgent.apk. Thanks to @Nana Ayeh

Completely stock except for root and ausdim's kernel. Runs well on the M919 and can easily be a daily driver.
Nice! will be curious to see battery life reports on this.

No the leak's modem will not flash on the m919. You can go flash the leak if you prefer.

No, it won't. You can flash the AP file only and get a mostly working ROM except for wifi.
Thanks guys!! DL as we speak. Looks promising!!

I used 2.8.4.0
The rom is flawless other than the Wi-Fi PW mess up, which by the time I backed up and restored he already fixed. I have to have Wi-Fi calling but I set it up to my liking and the next time I leave I out on business I'm going to restore it. Also there was some security issue that kept wanting me to restart which I'm sure I could have figured out had I played on it a little longer and had service. Awesome job!

correct
I am downloading the ROM. I am halfway through. I will post my comments! Thanks a lot. I have really been hungry to taste TW Lollipop on SGS4.
EDIT:
The ROM is now my daily driver. Thank you all for the hardwork. I found a fix for the security notice bug. I installed titanium backup and with root privileges uninstalled security agent log and that was all. There was no annoying security alert afterwards.
Camera works fine except dual shot.
The 's finder in the notification drawer is awesome. Mobile data, hotspot, wifi, great battery life. I will update you if I find anything else. I will be more than glad if we get the leaked update in a flashable zip format to make things much easier.

I will upload a new version of the backup with SecurityAgentLog removed. Good find, thx.
As for a flashable zip, I prefer backups as they retain samsung factory permissions and selinux contexts better than an updater script. A good updater script can get close but a backup is a mirror image of the Odin flash.

I can't wait to have that update the SecurityAgentLog removed. I have subscribed to this thread so I will receive an alert once you update it. I have still not had any issues after using it for almost 24 hours. So stable. It's indeed a daily driver. Thank you for your commitment to developing our S4.
EDIT:
I did not see the changelog earlier. Thanks for removing the security violation message.
