Hi guys, first off im a user of Samsung Galaxy SL i9003 and swapped it to a 2nd hand HTC Desire HD. To make it short, i want to learn every single thing about this device as how i knew my beloved SGSL. I've read almost all guides for newbies and it helps me alot.
Just want to clarify these questions of mine.
1. What is RUU?
2. A little confused about hboot/fastboot. Cause in my past device there is only Recovery and Download mode wherein in Recovery you wipe cache/dalvikflash custom rom through zip and Download mode is needed when flashing stock rom using ODIN.
3. We use Odin in my SGSL in flashing stock roms. How about here?
4. Is there an internal to external SD swap here? So datas of games will go to external sd card?
5. I want my HTC HD in stock AGAIN. What should i check first before doing anything? After checking whats next?
6. Cant find a list of stock roms here? What do you guys use? the codename like DDLF2 XXKPQ like that.
I'm really sorry. I know you how i feel now, im feeling excited while making this thread at the same time nervous of negative comments and a feeling of unwelcomed in this community. Please bare with me, not a SO NOOB in android and i am a fast learner. Thanks and Godbless to everyone!

Hey guys, frankly im a noob.. Im running on a stock ICS, stock kernel on my Sony Ericsson Arc.. running really slow and I have decided to flash a custom rom onto it for the first time. I need your help guys on where and how do I start the process.. there are a few que i have in mind such as
1) do i need to unlock the bootloader of my hp?
2) there is something called internal sd..and im so not sure what is it actually.. the arc doesnt have an internal storage like the galaxy s2 and etc as to my understanding..so what does it mean by i have to copy the zip rom files onto the internal sd?
3) i thought of flashing cyanogenmod 9 onto the arc but i would like to ask on your opinion on the rom and what would your choice of rom be?
hope to hear from u guys soon...thank you in advance..
well bootloader (e.g the BIOS settings in our computers) is just like the police officer that controls which programmes should start, what should run etc. although unlocking your bootloader will void your warranty however, it can be relocked by ways, our dev's have shown.
NEED---- it will help you install (also known as flash) custom (your own) kernels (interacter between software and hardware) and roms (interacter between humans and softwares). thus you will be able to customize anything and everything. and without the risk of bricking (make it no more useful thn a brick) your phone
well u must have read xmooded 90.5 rom requirements hence you must have been asking this, i dont know what that means but the externel sd card even works superb with that rom.
lastly i would suggest you use jj'shybrid rom with stock kernel and cwm installed. it is as good as cm9 in ui and almost the best in battery life (battery drain is about 0.2% per hour when idle)
hit thanks if i helped you

Anyone? Please held a hand?
Have you read the Ace Think Tank thread OP? If not, I advise that you do so. Come back if you still have questions.
EDIT: please also only bump once every 24 hours under XDA rules.
Yes ive understand though still have quesions unanswered there. I now understand that RUU is the app used to go back to stock firmware right. So, should i use that first sir? coz i want to start from gingerbread stock and learn everything up ahead. Im from Philippines so maybe i should use latest WWE RUU? Is there no pre requisites in doing this? Thanks for the response. Appreciated.
First of all, let me congratulate everyone for this forum. It's almost thanks to you.
It's my first post here, so hello to everyone.
It's my first android device, but I have experience with flashing symbian
I've been trying to flash my phone since couple of weeks reading some threads all over the Internet, but some errors occured each time
First of all, my phone was supposed to be root. After I get it is not rooted I search for some rooting options and then a read-only error occures, but I have superSU so I guess minideal (from where I bought my phone) flash it half the way so my phone is rooted and unrooted at the same time, is that possible?
Then I explore the phone and found a folder on it called "ClockworkMod". Doesn't it supposed to be with stock Android? What is ClockworkMod?
Later my final desire is to flash my phone with stock Android, I would like my phone to be 100% clean and then root it etc.
Can someone walk me through this as a complete noobie : (
What is the best for my phone?
Thanks to all.

Firstly, let tell you, what about Clockworkmod.
Clockworkmod is a comunity of programmers who has brought and created first and for me, the best android custom recovery. Their recovery names CWM recovery, they have also created, superuser a root permisions manager and more things.
Now, talking about your phone, is great phone, I don't know which one you have but love Iocean x7 Elite (Hope buy it soon), the phone have many ways of rooting but like people (not all), don't like support it cause like much more others it comes from china , this video is in spanish but you just must watch it and reading the description below, I'm not responsible of what happens , I just try to help you

GOOD LUCK!

Thank you for answering me.
Let me ask you my first question:
Do my phone (any phone) have to be rooted to install custom rom?
As I already read most of the custom roms are with built in root permissions....
Must Be Rooted!

Well, in occasions some devices must not be rooted because people just need to install a custom recovery and that's it. For flashing a custom recovery you mustn't be rooted, just look for a custom recovery for your device and so of easy you could flashing a custom rom. But with root privileges you could get your phone nicer and faster you jus must use the best way and under your own risk. I hope having helped you, if you need anything else, just write me
does anybody know if there is a cwm or twm for iocean x7 hd? any suggestion for root or custom rom?thanx

Hi XDA Community
Well i just need your help. I bought a Samsung Captivate Glide phone more than a year ago and now i think its time for flashing some ROM's since ICS is getting too old for me plus it is really battery and ram hungry. My phone really needs updating and i dont want to mess it through some wrong steps or process.
As i stated i am a noob and my only experience is Rooting my device with the help of XDA threads only.
I was hoping if there are people willing to help me in suggesting and flashing a good ROM (whether 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4 if any) because i was reading all the threads related to flashing and seemed kinda lost. Please can anyone help in explaining and directing me in steps (from backup to full flashing of ROM). For now i cannot afford to buy a new phone so keeping up with my buddy i927 glide.
Please Please Please, any help will be appreciated.
Simple step will be Good enough.
Thanks in advance to the XDA community.

The first thing you will want to do is get a custom recovery like TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) or CWMR (Clockwork Mod Recovery).
You can find TWRP here. It includes all of the information you need to get started using a custom recovery, and its a touch based recovery program.
If you'd prefer CWMR, you can find it here.
Now, you will need access to a computer (and ODIN) to install the first custom recovery you want to use.
Download the (newest) ODIN version (onto your computer) of TWRP or CWMR from their respective download sites, and place your phone into download mode by restarting it, and then holding the [UP] volume button when its rebooting.
Now, assuming you rooted your phone already, you should know how to use ODIN.
After ODIN completes, reboot your phone into recovery mode, and you should see that you are in the recovery that you wanted!
The next step is to get Nandroid Backup and make a backup of your phone.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH SPACE REQUIRED TO BACKUP YOUR DEVICE, OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESTORE YOUR PHONE!!!
Now, you should be able to download and install a ROM, and install it via recovery.
Note: You must wipe your phone! All of it! Otherwise the ROM may not work!
For TWRP, just place the Custom ROM you want to use in either the root of your sdcard or in your ext-sdcard, and select that file in TWRP. Flash the file. If the ROM comes with custom gApps (Google Apps) as well, you need to flash them after you flash the ROM.
I have to go now, and will edit this later.
This is why I made my guide check it out in my signature!

I just checked out @stormdude124's guide, it seems pretty comprehensive. good: Nice work, bro!)
Just follow it.
(<--Remember to Thank @stormdude124 and ME if this helps! :good
Thank you all for your replies, it really means something to me.
Well i found the guide you all are talking about after a few days and my phone is now loaded with Android KitKat 4.4.2.
Thanks again to each and every one who replied and all the Xda community for such impressive work.
Hello all!
I am in dire need of assistance and unsure of what to do next
The tablet I have is a Samsung Galaxy Tab3 7.0<stands for 7 inches? Model number is: SM-T210 and the Android version is 4.2.2. I believe this is the 2013 version tablet.
Short Version: :
I need some help and understanding of what order to do these things.
I read that installing a custom ROM helps with the performance a lot
Do I install the custom ROM first? Or do I need a custom recovery ( TWRP being the popular on)
Also, does my device need to be rooted?
A little confused at the order, what I do/do not need, and where to download all this from
Any more enlightnemt about what I should do next will be really helpful.
Otherwise I will just have to purchase a tablet :? (will installing a custom rom, rooting etc actually make my painfully slow tab3 faster? Or shall I just buy a new tablet?)
Long Version
Just some background info this current tablet:
The other day I 'foraged and found' the Samsug Galaxy Tab3 that my father was given for free with the purchase of his Samsung phone back in 2013. The tablet was hardly used, no files (photos or documents), some apps on there, basic use from him at work. I have used it for a few days and it is quite slow/performance etc. This is after the factory reset, but not sure if I will keep it as its still a bit sluggish and driving me nuts!. I have performed the standard and basic 'how to make your tablet faster', by turning animations to 0.5, downloading a differnt launcher, moving apps to microSD card etc but it doesnt help a lot.
So I was going to purchase another cheap(ish) tablet, but some wandering research has allowed me to stumble upon info about 'installing custom ROM's, flashing, backing up using TWRP custom recovery'.
Now I am no noob when it comes to tech. as 'I am a 90's kid who grew up with it' . But I am also no expert, however I come with open arms when learning about new techie methods/techniques.
And this installing custom ROM's sounds interesting, especially as my tablet is not really usable everyday, so I dont have anything to lose by tweaking it!
So I thought, lets start by watching a video 'How to Install A Custom ROM On Any Android Device (2018)'> But then it mentions that I need a custom recovery, TWRP being the popular one> But then that video tutorial says that I need my device to be rooted! So thats 3 different video tutorials that I need to follow. But I read that it does not need to be rooted, then I read that you dont need a PC for custom ROM's but some videos use it..oh God! As you can probably tell, this is really confusing for someone approaching this new area of 'rooting/custom rom'.
I would really like some help/advice about where I should start, what tutorials to use (I do like videos), what to download, what devices I need, softwares etc!
Hopefully the information I have provided helps
Thank you!
This is not the right forum for your tablet. You have a Galaxy Tab 3, this forum is for the Galaxy Tab S3.
You should head over to the Galaxy Tab 3 forum.

I m not familiar with your device, but steps are always the same: 1. Flash recovery with Odin (TWRP for example) 2. Copy Rom and Gapps to your device's SD 3. Boot to recovery 4. Follow ROM installation instructions. Happy Flashing, don't forget to enable USB debugging. Cheers A

Hey!
So I do not need to root my tablet? Many people say you have to? Maybe its best I do that?
Also, many different tutorials show different orders of installing and using different methods?
And, can I just do everything on my tablet or do I have to use my PC?
Do I need to install any apps or just to to certain websites on the tablet and install things?
Any specific links and order of doing them would help a bunch!
P.S What do you mean by "copy Gaps"? Do you mean apps?

Like I said I am not familiar with your device so I can't give you such a specific advice. You have to find out by yourself. Read threads, completely. Follow things being discussed already and find solutions for problems that's been already solved. This is what I do
