So I recently switched back to stock and saw a big difference in gaming performance once it was rooted and debloated. However I could never get Link2SD to see the ext4 partition. It just says "error unable to mount" or something along those lines.
But if I flash an alternate kernel like DoomKernel or Lupus then no issues. I have been using Link2SD for a quite a while now... and no matter how i try it with stock kernel Link2SD just doesnt see or is unable to mount the partition to install the libs needed for it to work.
Anyone give me any suggestions/ideas?
I have followed this quide before and repeatedly now to try and make stock kernel work... same results.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/12/12/link2sd-guide-never-worry-about-internal-memory-limits-again/
Anyone? I tried it again and gave it root permisions however it still comes up as "no mount device" Despite it seeing the Fat32 partition, it just wont see the Ext4 partition with stock kernel. But again soon as I flash an alternate kernel... BAM! see it no problem.
Does anyone have any ideas why stock kernel wont see it? Nothing in the tutorial says it has to be a modified kernel. Simply root only.
I dont know, the 2.6 linux kernel should actually support ext4.
Make sure that the format of ur second partition is same that u want to use in link2sd. For example if ur second partition is fat so in link2sd choose fat 16/32. Or maybe u may need to recreate again the second partition.

Make sure to set the partition as primary, not as logical when formating
As I have said I have been using Link2SD for about 8 months now both on my current Xperia PLAY and my old R800x. I am well aware of how to use the software, and the process for setting it up.
Again though everything I try with stock kernel Link2SD will not work even after it gets root access. Now if I switch the stock kernel to say Lupus or DoomKernel it works without a hitch. Otherwise on stock it gives me a error of:
No Mount Device.... something along that line.
I am stumped. Also just to be clear even on my R800x I was using DoomKernel,

I had the same problem using a stock kernel in the past. I never did come to solve why, Just thought I would reply and let you know that you aren't the only one, I think TLRtheory has used links2sd on stock kernel for-just-about-ever?

Yeah and thats why I wanted to make it work. I instaleld on a fresh copy of stock ROM, MC4 and it was fluid and smooth.
How about using fat instead ext? Maybe its work.
I remember that i try it on samsung galaxy ace without using any custom kernel.
U can ignore this if is still not working.
I also experience this, but only with stock & non modded kernel. Original kernel just can't support Link2d, Swapper, and can't overclock the CPU frequency.
It's maybe more faster & stable, but.... u know the difference, don't ya?
they will be always pros & con's

Hi,
Does your ROM support the script with files in the folder \system\etc\init.d ?
Check it with "Pimp My Rom" from google play market.

Hi all,
Everybody here must know about latest cm10.1 by olddroid right It's great news for our gio. But i have problem and maybe several people here had the same. This rom already has init.d folder but it seems doesn't support cronmod. I have done every thing i can, like flash it (cronmod) through proper flashing method and push it manually to /system /etc /init.d also set it's permission to rwxr-x---. But what i got is bootloop .
It would be great if any body here have the solution. I'm totally noobs but I love to learn :fingers-crossed:
Use link2sd instead of cronmode.
Its fast and bug free.

Did you do "mount system" before you flashed the cronmod scripts?
I'm using the app2sd+ and the int2ext4+ script and they worked really good after I mounted system.
After you flashed it you also have to format sd-ext.

Of course I do mount /system before, if not, i wont got bootloop . But wait a sec, if you already use cronmod, why on earth you also use app2sd+? And if you don't mind, can you attach your screenshot here? I want to see your internal storage and your init.d folder
I'm using the a2sd+ script to move all my apps and my dalvik cache to the external partition. Sorry if you thought that I'm using a different script than cronmod, I meant the cronmod a2sd+ script. My phone still shows a total space of 178 mb but I've got 1 gb on my external partition and as you can see I'm using 500 mb of it. I just ignore that it shows only 178 mb.

Yeah, A2SD+ works quite fine, but I made two small changes:
* /data/app-lib is also moved to /sd-ext. Gives some more free space on /data.
* Mount sd-ext as journalled ext4, more error resilence

Hi all,
Sorry - I know you get a lot of "which is best" but I've been going around in circles looking at all the different ROMS
My needs:
Wifeys's phone keeps running out of memory.... the old story
want to replace the std ROM with one excluding bloatware
want to use apps2SD to make best use of limited space
Need a Stable ROM not the latest and greatest, just a fast stable ROM (Android version doesn't matter - she'll be using it for photos, mail, txt and facebook)
Don't want to be updating it in future - just one stable ROM to put on and forget.
Please could you offer suggestions
Many thanks in advance

I am in the exact same situation but I do have the marvelc (MetroPCS). I have tried MESSYSENSE and insink71's ROM but don't know enough to disable the A2SD scripts on my own. I have the bootloader unlocked, but S-ON; installed clockworkmod recovery, and upgraded to hboot 1.10.
I have a 4GB sdcard which I want to partition in 3GB FAT32 and have 1GB internal memory.
My wife wants me to spend $100+ in one of the newer phones but for what she uses the phone for the Wildfire S with 1GB internal memory would really make her happy and save me some dough! So I guess a stock ROM with init.d and rooted should do the trick once I run CRONMod INT2EXT+
Help please!

Doing it now, it's stuck in the first HTC screen, the one that displays HTC in bright green, before it goes into the the softer green font and displays the carrier. That's where it takes a long time or on the one after?
518MB primary partition formatted in EXT3, about 3.2GB in FAT32, primary and first partition. Installed your ROM after full wipe, ran the script and formated sd-ext like it says. Boot loop, after the MetroPCS logo it reboots back into the HTC quietly brilliant splash screen. What the heck could be happening???? I'm S-ON but unlocked. Could that be it?
I can confirm it's the script because I flashed only your ROM and the phone booted OK. Will try running the script again after 1 boot to see if that works. The only thing left to try is that the OP of CRON's thread says that some phones have problems and to mount /system before flashing the scripts.
No luck, boot loop. One thing that I don't understand is why doesn't is why programs like Link2SD cannot see my sd-ext partition. Could that be it?

Nice stable rom
I've tasted a few roms since I rooted my wildfire S and I have the same answer for everyone that looks for a stable rom:
- WildJOY joyOS There haven't found any bug at all on it and it's quite smooth. The only "problem" is that if you don't like iPhones this interface is not for you.
I have been reading xda-developers forums since like a year ago when I got my beloved Xperia Play, but as adviced by many "recognized contributors" in their signatures, I always searched first instead of asking when a question popped up in my head. And fortunately I always found the answer.
I created my profile just like 6 months ago, but despite I have thanked a lot throgh the "thanks" button to people who posted something I got, or just contributed with something useful, that's not enough . I WANT TO THANK ALL XDA's DEVS!!!!!!!!! without you the android world would be very boring!!!!!!!
And now...... my questions:
1. I want to flash CosmicDan's TurboKernel 3.1 in order to dualboot a GB rom with an ICS or JB one. In this guide by fma965 is explained the whole process to follow, BUT the ins't explained how to deal with basebands (neither in the original kernel thread). Since full wipe/factory reset, flashing kernel or ROM doesn't affect the baseband, I wonder if the four kernel slots share the same baseband, and if not, how to install the corresponding baseband for each ROM separately. Also I wolud like you to reccomend me the best baseband for a GB-ICS or GB-JB combo (I say this cause I have always used the -36 with patched libs, fist the ones for ARC, then the Xperia Play ones from this thread thanks to romcio47, so I've never tried other baseband versions) If you can, leave a link to baseband's download or thread
2. I feel some preference for this rom DiXperia 2 'Everlasting' | Performance. Stability. Experience. because as the title says, you can really feel the performance and experience your games in a whole new level. But it is not multiboot aware, and the dev (DiKeJ) is retired. In this post CosmicDan explains how to make it Multoboot Aware, but I can avoid that by just flafhing it in the first/internal slot right???
3. I want you to share your experiences with multibooting, like configurations and tweaks you used (I mean supercharger, adreno drivers.....)
but mostly the following question: have you liked it? is it worth it in a long shot? I have multiboot Windows XP and Win 7 but I never use the 7, I just installed it to have a first impression and to learn how to work with it, but after 2 or 3 weeks, never touched it again so......
4. Nandroid backup: CosmicDan says that it's safe to restore a Turbo kernel backup if you also go back to previous kernel (the one before TK), as long as userdata partition is not too big for the old kernel. So, how do we common users know if the userdata is too big or not?
I have an R800a with unlocked bootloader by alejandrissimo and rooted MIUI Australia. Thanks in advance!!!!
1. Use the FTF with baseband from turbo kernel op the pheonix vendor.ftf
2. Yes you can install to first and the copy to other slots even if they are not multiboot aware.
3. i use this kernel all the time but rarely multiboot, works well though, no tweaks needed for me atleast
4. check to see if the userdata is above 380mb if it is then it will not be restorable,
any thing else?
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2
Just to confirm (before i mess something up), is it safe to put a non multiboot aware ROM like NXT on the first slot of this kernel and then having slimbean on the second slot?

thanks for the reply!!!! I just have the chance to login to xda until today cause the internet was cut due to repairs in the building where I live
During that time I tried the kernel and flashed DiXperia ROM and slimbean and both run smooth. Good wifi signal but always 2 bar signal on cellular network when I usually get 4, on both ROMs. Waiting for xDarKMario's v3
A final question: If I change to another kernel, maybe CM10 from FXP when an if its completely done, can I just leave 2/3/4 partitions on the sdcard and then transfer them to the pc if I mind to return to TurboKernel later? And if so, will TK recognize the former partitions safely instead of repartitioning and restoring all those nandroid backups?
Sorry for asking so much, but its better to be sure before screwin' up something

Yes they are just files on a sdcard in the turbo folder

Thanks for your help!!!! you're relly nice
One more question
If I have to switch back to a non-multiboot kernel, like Lupus-v11 JB for example, do I have to flash stock firmware to set the partitions to stock? Or will flashing the new kernel automatically repartition it to stock sizes? Wedgess mentions that you need to wipe all the partitions... urm.. how exactly do I go about doing that
Sorry for the noob question... but just wanted to be sure.
Flash stock ftf and then flash the kernel. Then go and flash the New kernel also delete the turbo and twrp folders from your sd card and wipe data cache and dalvik cache in recovery of new kernel before flashing rom. That should have a clean fresh install so you don't have any problems. Also don't forget to back up your apps as well as make a nandroid backup just in case

MW9.5 is very stable. How did you partition your SD card? Suggest you to wipe everything, re-partition if needed and flash. Everything should be working just fine.
Alternatively, you can try other MW ROMs like the one based on CM or oxygen. They're working perfectly too.

AFAIK this ROM is very stable. Try doing a full wipe and reflash.

can you link it cant find in search or full name
You are probably low on space because you are still on stock hboot.
Nandroid backup and change hboot using fastbout commands, search for guides. There are custom hboots posted in that thread if your search. Or just use something like cm7r2 hboot.
512mb is also quite small, you can use at least 1gb.
Check everything is working by installing another app like diskusage to browse all your partitions.

AFAIK= as far as I know.
I meant the ROM that you are running is stable, so its likely a problem on your end. Try doing a full wipe and reinstall it.

Hello!
I am using the lupus GB v6 on my r800i running the gin2jellybean Rom.
I was thinking of trying out the doomkernel to compare the performance.
It would be nice if there was a way to change kernel without having to reset the phone.
I would be happy for any help/info I could get.
Thanks for reply
You cant do that, also, you dont lose any data by changing kernel, you lose it by doing factory reset/data remove.

So i just have to go to flashtool and flash my desired kernel? Can stuff get messed up?
Thanks for your reply:beer:

generally if the kernel uses the same partition scheme you should be able to just flash the kernel and boot right away.
how much internal space do you have?
if you have 300 and something mb available for apps give it a try.
just do a cwm backup. if it doesn't boot, flash old kernel again (perhaps restore the nandroid backup if it still doesn't boot) and you are there where you began.

don't know if you can flash a kernel img with flashtool. use fastboot. the only data that's changed is the kernel.
edit: right you can use fastboot in flashtool, i've forgotten
Thank you, that was really helpful!

But what is a partition scheme?

every storage (harddisk, flash, sd-cards... you name it) have to be formated so that the host system (like linux, windows, mac os...) can read from it. the format (ntfs, fat32, hfs+...) describes how the data is stored on this device. the host system has the driver for it so it can read how the data is stored.
every storage media has a partition scheme. it's basically a table that describes how the storage media is partitioned. a media can have many partitions (display yourself multiple volumes in windows like c:, d:...). they are not real physical seperated drives. the disc tells the system that x GB are reserved for partition (let's call it windows), another partition (let's call it data) is reserved with y GB on the same volume.
since android 62 we can unlock a partition that's called the vendor partition. it was reserved in prior firmwares but i don't know for what purposes. since ics more capacity was needed for the system (i guess) and the partition was unlocked so it was usable.
doomkernel does not support this (since it's based on prior kernels) and sticks with 300+ mb reserved for your apps.
Thanks, it was very nice of you to reply with such a long answer.
As I am not a very good "english speaker" I don't understand everything mentioned in this text but it provided me with much good information. I have one question left, answer if you want.
You say that doomkernel does not support partition scheme, does that mean it's not a good idea to flash it?
Anyway thanks again for your support!

first just check if you have 300 or 600 and something mb available in your internal memory. if you have 300-i-don't-know-exactly mb you can try to flash.
Ok,will try
