Text input problem when connected to Wifi - HTC One V

Hi,
I'm having a weird issue with my One V. When I'm connected to the WLAN at my workplace (WPA2-Enterprise, TTSL/PAP or PEAP/MSCHAPV2), I can't input any text. The keyboard appears, I get word completion hints (if activated, though the problem occurs regardless) but no text ever makes it to the text input field. The problem occurs regardless of which app and which keyboard I try. It doesn't appear when I connect to "normal" WPA2 secured WLANs.
I've contacted HTC support, they told me to try a soft reset and a hard reset, both of which didn't work. For technical reasons, restarting the WLAN system, as they suggested, is not possible.
I'm running the default software with official upgrades installed (Android 4.0.3).
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? I'd really like to get this to work.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: The workplace WLAN requires a certificate (Deutsche Telekom Root CA 2) that, as per user instructions, I installed manually, but later discovered was already preinstalled. However, the preinstalled certificate cannot be selected in the Wifi config... I don't know if this is relevant.

Update...
Just as a quick update: When adding the WLAN, I got asked to select a locking mechanism for the login credentials store. I tried different ones, the error occurs regardless of which one I select.

GPRS not connecting??

I have done multiple searches and have not found anything. WIFI works, but gprs will not connect, i've tried disabling proxy and everything. I am currently using schaps 3.60a and the error i get is the answering modem has disconnected to check your connection settings click setting tab. I have not seen this error before. I've flashed multiple 8525's before. I have one working perfectly fine, and this is a second one i followed the exact same steps but gprs will not work no matter what.
I'm suddenly having an identical or almost identical problem on VP3g's ROM. My Wifi connection with PIE works fine and I'm getting push e-mail delivered. But when I try to connect off WiFi as I had always done before, I get the message:
"Cannot connect with the current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings"
I've checked my settings and they seem correct and the same I always used. I've checked to see that my NoData settings were not inadvertently set wrong, but Media Net is Enabled. I've tried flushing temp files and cookies. I even tried erasing them and then reestablishing them by going online with WiFi. Finally I also tried using Opera.
Nothing works. This is maddening
The only thing strange or different is that I had set HTC Custom for temp files to be on my SD Card and when I now tried to set them on main memory (to see if somehow that might work) I get a series of error messages each time and files remain on SD.
Is it possible for the radio for gprs to be corrupt?? Or it could it be something simple as a registry edit? On the phone it is instantaneous when you try to connect to gprs it kicks back that message right away. So i know for sure gprs/edge is inop. Not sure why though.
Check with your operator
It happens to me once in a while even when the "E" shows up in the display indicating Edge abailability, but reality is that the network is down or highly congested.
chhuong I think you are right and it must be a corrupt registry entry. I know that the visible settings are correct.
It occurred to me that I have been using NODATA to turn off GPRS reception whenever I wanted to use Wifi and perhaps one of the times I set it to be disabled and then enabled it again, it must have been left as disabled even though it "says" that it has been re-enabled. Also I had a problem trying to change the cache from Main to SD, and would keep on getting errors whenever I did, using HTCustom. So probably at some point some registry corruption must have crept in. Unfortunately I've become too lazy to open the registry editor and dive in to find out where it might be.
Anyway, I finally got tired of it not working and used the problem as an excuse to move from VPG's 3.60.1 to 3.60.2. I reflashed this morning and it's been fine ever since. This time I won't use NODATA.
well actually i've tried flashing multiple roms and multiple radios, and nothing, still no gprs? So mine might be an internal fault?? Has anyone ever heard of that happening??
have you tried: start - settings - connections -connections - advanced - select networks - Media Net? Reverse it back to my network when you to use WIFI.
I've got similar problem after reflashing. Try to run Shap's Advanced configuration tool, select Connections tab and click Enable HSDPA. Don't ask me why, but it helped me to solve the problem, even there is no HSDPA available here...
I am having the same problem but i dont think its schaps rom, i think it happened either after i installed the 1.54.10 radio or after i installed the shogun cabs. If a moderator or senior could point us in the right directions, it would be much appreciated.

I tired that many times, but it didnt help, thanks anyways.
FWIW, I was able to clear this up the last time it occurred by going in to Menu > Tools > Options > Memory and clearing the History, deleting files and clearing cookies, then soft reset, and everything was okay.
Try this cab http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=54309&d=1192447925, and if it doesnt work try enabling hspda, and if that doesnt work, try calling your provider and ask them to make sure that your account is enabled for data. I tried all that, then, because i dont have a data plan, but i use pay per usage, i went to ATT's site and added a data plan. Now it works, so i think its disabled on ATT's side. [Q] Network Errors, 404s and Other Wi-Fi Issues After 2.2 OTA Update

I accepted and installed the 2.2 OTA Update as soon as it was pushed out. Yeah I know, Big Mistake (re: rooting). Please forgive me, I'm new here.
Anyway, ever since the update I've been experiencing intermittent (but more often than not) network errors, 404s and an assortment of other data-related issues when connecting via Wi-Fi. It seems to occur whether the Mobile Network is enabled or not. I experienced none of these issues before the update.
A few examples:
Attempting to use Android Market throws "An error has occured..." or "A network error has occured. Retry, or cancel...".
Viewing pages using the stock browser results in "Web page not available". At the same time, Opera Mini is unaffected.
Weather shows "No weather data available" and throws "Connection error | Sorry but the connection dropped while your weather information was downloading...." when I try to refresh.
Entering text in a form field via voice recognition throws "There is a problem with the network connection.".
Pandora throws "Service unavailable" errors.
These issues don't occur all at once or with any regularity (that I can see). Market might work fine while the browser fails. Sometimes the browser issue only affects certain certain sites (and most often google.com (?)) while others work fine. Sometimes affected sites only partially load, or load everything but images.
My Wi-Fi sleep policy is set to 'Never'. I have a solid router and a very strong signal with (effectively) zero interference. Obtaining an IP address is never a problem; my connection is never dropped.
Performing a ##3282# Data Restore doesn't help, nor does a ##786# Full Reset. I just performed a Full Reset and am having problems even before installing any apps.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas for fixing it?
-thanks
Edit: forgot to mention that I'm currently operating on 3G only. Might have a chance to test in a 4G zone later on this evening.
Alright, I think I've pinned this down to my ISP's crappy DNS servers, though I haven't had a chance to test on a different one to confirm. However, I manually configured my Wi-Fi connection to use OpenDNS servers and things have worked fine all morning. Then, just for kicks, I set DNS back to the ISP (gateway) and the issues returned immediately. Switch back to OpenDNS and no problems.
This leads me to another question: is it possible to manually configure DNS, yet still obtain a dynamic IP?

[Q] Problem while connecting windows marketplace via HD mini

Hi
I have acquired HTC HD mini recently. I upgraded its ROM to new version 1.36.720.X. But still I am not able to connect Windows Marketplace via my mobile. My GPRS connection is set correctly as I am able to connect Facebook and My Phone successfully. I am facing issue with Windows Live and Marketplace.
I always get error while trying to connect Market place that
"There may be a problem with the Marketservice now. Check your internet connection and try again later."
Can anybody provide me solution for this.
Registry value for HKLM\Systems\Versions\Aku is .5.3.3 (Which is due to latest OS version came with ROM) . Hence that earlier fix of changing value of Aku is not workable though I tried it.
I think that there are many unfortunates like me who have faced same problem.
Thanks in advance for help.
regards,
Pranit
Hi
It has been long time and I have received no answer. Please help me as I have been not able to use marketplace. I have tried all solution mentioned in forum but with no effect.
uninstall and redownload marketplace.worked for me.
This solution does not work. I didn't know how to uninstall Windows marketplace. Hence I installed and replaced downloaded version of marketplace app. Need a concrete solution. Just to mention, I am from india. I came across one more user of HD mini who is facing same issue.
I need helping hand here. Kindly somebody give me some solution. Is there any issue while accessing Marketplace from India?
Is your time date correct for your country.
I had the same problem i change the time to right time for my country and marketplace could connect.
I hope you understand my english.
Yes. I have synchronised time with internet. Still no effect. Assume that I have no idea about how to set the local time and guide me. I am really pissed off as my all efforts to connect Marketplace are failed.
go to settings 'time, date", and also check "country and text" just below the tab "time and date" I hope you understand this i have to translate from dutch
Hope this solve's your problem.
Then I have done it correctly. Still with no effect. I just wanted to confirm it. Everything seems just right.
i found this regarding your problem
Have you tried this deleting a reg key that sets the download location for Marketplace.
Can you please tell me where to find this entry in registry?
HKCU\Security\Software\Microsoft\Marketplace;Downl oadLocation
I found this on the forum of mobilitydigest.com.
Maybe you can find a solution for your problem there.
Just typ in Google marketplace bootstrap
tried. But still not working. I am stuck since I bought HD mini.Have tried number of options to connect marketplace and all met with failure. Can you think of other solution?
I have had this problem too. But simply killing the process in Task Manager, rebooting the device and retrying worked for me!
Please tell me which process is to be killed. I tried to locate process and kill it. If I am not wrong then in task manager there is no option to kill process but to kill application.

Kill application worked for me. But killing processes can be done in the Task Manager by clicking Menu => Display => Processes
Hi , I have tried all sort of options now. But I have met no success. Please, please provide me some solution. My HD mini is sort of useless if I am not able to access marketplace. I am not able to buy certain apps which I would like to.
This guy had the same problem as you.
I've had this problem for quite some time and I think I may have found a solution that I didn't really seem to find in many other places. I believe that Windows Marketplace Mobile requires an authenticated connection to connect (network associated GPRS such as AT&T, Edge, 3G, etc...). To connect to WinMo Market with a wifi, I believe also requires authentication. My own personal router is secured with WPA and AES encryption, which my phone can connect to. I had no problems with connecting to the internet via browser (for the most part) with Wifi or Edge. Problem is, for whatever reason, Windows Marketplace did not recognize that my Wifi was authenticated. After playing around for quite some time to figure out why, I stumbled on a program called Advanced Configuration Tool (I own an unlocked HTC HD2). Turns out, my stock ROM had WPA Authentication disabled (which explains why flashing to a new ROM work for people since that option is typically enabled by default). I guess somewhere along the long, my phone had disabled it, most likely by some action of my own. So after re-enabling it in the network settings of the program, I had no more problems connecting to Winmo Market. Additionally make sure that your wireless config on your phone enables IEEE 802.1x network access control (you can adjust this on the actual wireless network setting where you input your passwords). I'm sure there are ways to activate it through the registry, but Advanced Configuration Tool by Touchxperience developers made it easy (it's in the network settings menu).

Returned home from short trip, Wifi connects but does not function

As the title says, I didn't change anything about the phone's configuration when I was out, didn't download any new apps or change any settings that would interfere like this. No one else has changed my home network in my absence.
Nevertheless, most of my apps, such as Instagram, the Play Store, Twitter, Wikipedia, Chrome; almost all their requests time out. There seem to be short windows where data will load, and Instagram appears to load comments and post metadata, but no images. It's basically unusable. Occasionally an exclamation mark will pop up over my Wifi symbol in the notification center. Strangely, I can still reach my Steam and Battle.net authenticators, but the moment I try loading the Steam app, nothing comes up. It's like the device can only handle plaintext over Wifi.
All of the apps work fine over cellular data.
Also, there is a toast that appears whenever I restart my phone that says "Power On" that I've never noticed before. I was rooted using Xposed, the only modules I used were Snapprefs, Xinsta, Physical Button Music Control, and Greenify Experimental Features, all of which I uninstalled. The toast still appears with the latter two disabled. Only other rooted apps I had besides Xposed were Nova Launcher, Greenify, Busybox, and Root Checker Basic, all of which have been removed but Nova.
I am running 6.0.1 with the latest update.
Any ideas? I am still within 15 day warranty so I could theoretically return the phone (which I was contemplating doing anyhow since 10gb of functional storage is a bit too small for me), but would rather not have my hand forced, and eat into my cell data plan.
So far I have tried forgetting the network, wiping cache/dalvik with TWRP, removing the Google VPN, resetting all network settings, and a couple things I can't remember offhand now. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

First, if you want to return your device because the 16gb model doesn't have enough space, go ahead.
If it is mostly because of this WiFi issue, I wouldn't return the device, it is almost certainly the case this is some configuration issue (possibly in concert with some Android bug) which can be resolved.
Is it possible when you came home the device connected to a neighbor's AP and thus you couldn't use data, but it wasn't immediately obvious, so you ended up forgetting your own network and reentering the config, but the key was off by a little, and from that point on, it was just assumed the wifi config was correct?
When you say Google VPN, are you using WiFi Assistant and Project Fi? Have you tried disabling auto-connect fir the WiFi Assistant?
Have you tried using the old Lollipop DHCP client (perhaps your IP address got used by another device and the new Android client doesn't handle that well?) Just grasping at straws.
Have you tried turning on Bluetooth while WiFi is on? Perhaps there is a bug with them working independently of each other in certain situations.

I am 100% positive I am on my own home network and that I used the correct key. I'm not sure what you mean with regards to the rest of the 'config', I have always used the standard wifi configuration, just typed in my key and had it work.

I actually forget what it was called, it was under Settings>Wireless&Networks>More>VPN. There was one entry there with an icon. I forget the name of it, but the icon looked like a stock Google icon and I think it had google in the name. I am on Project Fi, not using any wifi assistant (at least not in Advanced Wi-Fi Settings), but when I tried to toggle that option on just now, something called "VpnDialogs" crashed, so I assume that VPN entry was that. But again, the assistant wasn't on.

I did, when I first googled this was one of the things I found, sadly it did not help.

I don't use Bluetooth, and trying to toggle it off/on from the control center just gives me a repeated "unfortunately, Bluetooth Share has stopped" error message.
I have decided to get the 32GB 5X since I do want more storage, but since I would like to be able to root my phone again and use Xposed, I would still like to hear any other ideas you have for troubleshooting this problem in case it reoccurs.
I reflashed the latest update to see if that would fix it, no dice. When I send the 16GB model back I have to factory reset it anyway, so I suppose I'll know if that does it.
What puzzles me is why I can load text from instagram posts that have been posted while I've been having this problem, but not images. Makes me think that maybe my connection is being super throttled somehow rather than non-functional, but my PC's speeds are normal. Perhaps some internal part is damaged? I do have a case and it hasn't taken any serious tumbles, but it has had one or two small falls from maybe 2 feet high.

It is easy to test if you have some network connection vs none.
In terminal or adb shell
ifconfig wlan0
ping www.google.com
1st command will tell you (among other things) if your wlan picked up an IP address.
2nd command will test whether you can send ping packets over your connection.
I'm sure there are millions of ways of doing the above, I just gave you one example.
Strangely, the solution seems to have come from factory resetting my router. I ruled this out initially because my other old phones were working fine on wifi, my phone is now getting WiFi again.
Now to figure out what the hell this "Power On" toast is about...

I've encountered something similar where the router runs out of NVRAM space because it has recorded too many DHCP clients, it won't hand out new IP addresses, but if you are existing or already have one, it is fine.

Connect button grayed out when entering password for Wifi

Hey, I'm unable to connect to "eduroam" (my school Wifi) because the "connect button" appears to be grey when my username and password is written. I googled the web and found out that having a password of less than 8 numbers or letters may cause this problem. But this is not the case. I have Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC ONE M7, and both of them have no issues of such matter. BTW, I do use Wifi at home with no problem on my Nexus 5X. Any suggestions? M7 runs Android 5, while S5 runs Android 6. Nexus 5x is updated to Android 7 (bought it yesterday).
capitalization matters. If all characters are lowercase it will not accept it. check that you are not using a theme also. And if you have any apps that draw on screen (like messenger) close them temporarily.
My password includes capitalized letters, lowecase letters, numbers and is longer than 8 spaces. I'm not sure if I understand the "theme" thing. I use stock Android wallpaper and theme. I will check the last thing but I don't think it's the case since I tried restarting the device and entering password right after without any luck. Anyway, thank you for your time. Btw if I change "PEAP" option to "password" (if I do remember right) then the connect button becomes clickable. But I havn't tried it since it should work with "PEAP". Or so the school guide for Android smartphones tells that and HTC ONE M7 + Galaxy S5 works with "PEAP".
I had the same problem. Try changing the Phase 2 authentication to MSCHAPV2 and the CA certificate to "do not validate" At least those are the settings that worked with my network.
But then the connection will not be private? or it says so if I do choose your suggested settings. It's really strange that I can't use the settings recommended by the school and that works on other versions of Android.
Edit: It works if I choose "do not validate" option. But are there any downsides choosing this particular "do not validate" option?

Thank you very much! It worked for me
i need to revive this. had the same issue. changing to "do not validate" got it to work. didn't need to change phase 2 authentication though.
so 2 questions:
what does this phase 2 authentication?
and what does it mean that my connection isnt private then?
thanks!

You should not change to "do not validate". You have to download the correct certificate (e.g. from the webpage of university ) and install and it on your phone. Pay attention that you install it for wlan and not for VPN. When you now connect to eduroam, you can select the installed certificate. Hope this helps
The official solution is a bit clumsy, but better from a security point of view. Download the configuration app called "eduroam CAT" from Google Play. Then go to cat.eduroam.org to download the right profile, open it with the app, and tada! (And then uninstall the app which is no longer needed.)
