Relax, everyone. This is what happens in the world of smartphones. Whatever you buy, whenever you buy it, there's always something newer and snazzier just around the corner. The options are either to sing the blues or enjoy the awesome phone you have.
I would not be surprised if they release OGP with Krait 400. That would confirm (at least in my opinion) that OGP with Krait 300 is not selling enough to their expectation. Probably they (LG) are like "hmmm, lets beef it up a little (or a lot), it may attract more attention" ... Who knows ...
Smartphones today are like the 1990's computer, something faster/stronger a few months out. I had a Sony VAIO with a 333MHz processor ($2500ish in 1994) and the next month they brought out the 400MHz one. I was pissed lol!
The speed and power of todays smartphone are good enough for at least 2 years. My LG OG with ECO mode on (2 cores used) is powerful enough for my gaming and multi tasking so i'm ,more than content until upgrade time in 2015
I may be off but everything I keep seeing say the optimus G may get the 800 processors, the optimus G2 which maybe release in August. I'm I confused?

Well, strange, somebody constantly deletes messages in this thead, and at the same time people near us talking about newcoming http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2313918 Sony Togari just fine and without any stupid interruptions. 14 pages of news and gossips only in 3 weeks and counting. The mods all over XDA are getting out of hand. I understand trying to keep the dev sections on track, but the general sections should be left alone. If people visiting the general section for a device aren't interested in a given topic, the thread will drop off the front page and go away on its own. That's the way forums are supposed to work.
It's getting to be less and less enjoyable to spend time in the XDA forums because of this.

After having a S2 for nearly 2 years I think I got my fill of Sammy phones.
If the OG2 does come out a month after announcement that isn't that long of a wait. Though I know I'd be kicking myself to pass on a free OGP after this promotion ends.

I've had my note for like 1 1/2 yrs now..The key thing here is this phone has all kinds of good feedback. There's no guarantee the OG2 will be the same way. Example the S4.
Let's be honest you don't see anyone complaining about lag on this device.

I don't doubt the OGP is a solid phone. All reviews from tech blogs have been positive. My only concern is lack of development. The device has only been out a month but if you look at other devices like s4 and htc one there are already plenty of support.
Also hearing about the Snapdragon 800 and how its suppose to have 75% cpu and 16x gpu performance over 600. Though those may be outlandish claims to hype the release of the 800, still we can see for ourselves in 2-3 months from now.
I remember waiting a few months after release of my note before any good stuff came out.
Everyone picks different times to jump ship. Root just may be enough for me.

So Samsung has announced a new processor in their Exynos line. Seems as though they are releasing this new processor by the end of this year. Here's the link. http://phandroid.com/2011/09/29/samsung-introduces-new-1-5ghz-exynos-4212-dual-core-processor/
The question is, will this be the processor which is will be in the Nexus Prime in relation to an OMAP processor and how powerful is this SOB gonna be given the 1.2 model in the E4GT is an absolute monster as it is? Second, how overclocked do you think this new processor is or will it have unlocked overclocking potential. This has been one of the most difficult decisions of my life because I am in absolute love with my E4GT but I've decided to return it and give it a month for the dust to settle. There is a heated spec war just over the horizon.
Nice find.
But what does this and all the other threads about "future phones" have to do with the E4GT? I know its comparing processors but there is an overall general forum for general talk like that.
SO sick of hearing about new stuff thats not even gonna be out for like half a year or later. I just want to enjoy the nice phone I just got. All this speculation and OOH and AHHs are just preventing people from wanting to get this phone and wait til the next big thing and makes us take a hit on development.
If you keep waiting til the next big thing you might as well wait forever because you can only have the baddest phone on the block for 4 months tops anyway and something better will be out.
Sorry for the rant.
Yea I didn't have this phone a week yet and Im already starting to feel obsolete reading about this lol

Good thing you ask, seems as though Samsung and Google announced the date they will be announcing the Nexus Prime today. That will be on October the 11th. Won't be long, less then 2 weeks from now before we can put all these rumors to rest. Don't get me wrong, trust me, I'm a more hardcore E4GT lover than you can imagine. Here's the link to the upcoming announcement within 2 weeks http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/0...-expected-on-on-october-11th-droid-prime-too/
It's basically a EG4T with NFC, possibly LTE with Sprints upcoming network expansion, a 720 p qHD specialty screen with about a third more pixels per square inch and the new model processor. Oh, and possibly at 4.65 inches. These are the rumors circulating and the more I watch the more evidence that's popping up about the screen and the processor. Samsung just happens to announce a their new 1.5 ghz Exynos processor 2 weeks before the Primes announcement? All this with rumors suggesting the OMAP processors have been behind in production?

If the Nexus line holds true to its trends, it will probably be a Verizon phone for some months before they release it to other carriers like they have done with T-mobile in the past. I would like to get my hands on a nexus phone for development sakes only. They always have a ton of support and constant updates. But whos to say that phone wont have a fluke bug in it either. every phone that comes out seems to have some bugs that can get ironed out and some that cant.
So far I have experienced zero major bugs with my device and has been the best release of a phone that I have gotten my hands on ever, and ive owned 5 in the last 2 years. I even switched from T-mobile to Sprint for coverage reasons in my area and dont see myself paying $$$ for Verizon and its LTE when it will never be in my area or get the 4G signal indoors. Especially if sprint is announcing the switch over to LTE. Boohoo if my phone wont be compatible, I will have a new upgrade by the time i see any of that in my area.

Here is my unrequest opinion.
It is a hardware race. Will the screen, processor, and battery life be better in the prime/galaxy s2 HD? Yes.
Will some of us go speed a large amount of money as a result? Yes, and I am not excluding myself.
But again, it is just a hardware race. Is there anything out there now, or in a year that will even challenge our phones? No, not a chance. This phone is truly a 2 year phone. I am sure of that.
Do we need a HD screen? No...the screen on this phone is awesome. Actually the hd screen on the prime and galaxy hd will have a pentil matrix...making the pixel density closer to that of our phones then one might think.
Overall...the new exynos will be better. But who the hell is going to notice. I am willing to bet, that besides benchmarks, our phone will do everything just as smooth as the new exynos. Honestly...the samsung created hardware in our phone is that good.
Hopefully, I am right...and not incorrect like I as with the evo3d. I thought the evo3d would be as smooth as any phone...but this phone just made me eat my words. I love it
I'm going to have to fight the urge to get the prime! Going from evo3d to photon to epic is less then two months is just too much already. I think I have a phone problem

Just an FYI, this SOC won't be in a Sprint phone till late spring, early summer of next year, so the only 1.5GHz phones we(Sprint) will see are going to be based on the Qualcomm chip for now, which I expect at least 1 or 2 to phones by Christmas(mostly HTC tho)

Why do you think that?
Did you get this phone Calkulin?
New to the whole android platform (addicted after buying nexus 7). I have a severely crippled AT&T iphone 4 (cracked screen, no wifi or gps). Looking between the s3/optimus g or nexus 4. This phone has the best specs on the market, possibly the best screen along with LTE and expandable memory. The nexus 4 section has almost 4 times as many posts as this. Why isn't this phone hyped up? People are still saying the s3 is a better phone than this. Is LG really that bad? I tested this phone out at best buy twice, it is awesome however the camera isn't all that amazing to me (will try again). I would like an unlocked boot-loader (who wouldn't) just for root access for a few of my apps and tethering... Otterbox already has a case for it I am ready to buy. However it seems this phone will be swept under the rug. I don't want to invest two years for a phone that has no support.
Am I the only one?
stigma.... Most at&t reps wouldn't have a clue if you walked into the store and asked what is the fastest phone you have... which runs Krait... What are MHL capable. sg3, pantech breeze, and Iphone, note, I those are the phones they keep selling.... It's gonna take some time.
LGOG Bam!
The previous user nailed it. If the s3 sells more, reps will push it even nor because it's a safe bet. It's why a lot of people have a hard time switching from iOS to Android. Sells people sell it and almost everyone has one.
It's hard to steer people in a new direction even I'd there is a better product sometimes. That's just capitalism for you. Although I wish this phone got more attention.. If it received half the affection the s3 gets, lg may listen to the petitions or we would have more devs working on the bootloader.

More popularity means more devs trying to crack the bootloader. It also means more petitions signed to get the bootloader unlocked. I'd say it's ask pretty important.

Not everyone cares about it getting unlocked. I don't. Its a good phone without that. Yes it can be better but I know more people that don't care about rooting then I do that care. I think people are missing out on a great phone just because its locked down. I understand why a lot of people want it unlock but that will never choose my phone for me. It will be unlocked very soon. Its almost there now. I happy that it is but at the same time I don't care. Its the fastest phone I've ever owned whether it popular or not. But will more cases come out for it if it gets unlocked ? LG has to prove themselves first then the rest will come. Samsung was in the same boat for awhile, now look at them.

I hate to sound like a spoil sport, but I've been down this road before with people wanting petitions for various reasons be it to unlock bout loaders, release ril or release certain drivers that would make Dev support better. Unfortunately it always fails. I hope the best for anybody that try's to promote development within the community, but my advice to anybody that Dev support is of highest importance is to either get a phone that is already well established within the community or get a nexus device. This is why I got a nexus device and I'm glad I did. Best move I ever made.
Once again Best of luck to anyone who promotes development in the community as that's what this is all about!
Y'all are right I work from AT&T and I see iPhone users return the S3 all the time simply because it's not the iPhone they recognize its capable of doing the same things but are not willing to adapt to the change... I've had the optimus and even when telling people it's better than the S3 they know about the S3 and rather take the sage route than try the cool phone I have... I will say however most of my co-workers are avid iPhone junkies and will reuse to believe anything is better than the iPhone... and their right from a usability stand point but from a functionality stand point android trumps every time... but it's all abt what people see on tv and hear abt from peers

Giant, I will refer you to the Amaze 4g forum, where after a barrage of inquiries and a petition, HTC finally released the WIFI / BT chipset drivers. MOST times it fails, but it can happen.
Now, to the question at hand. Not only is it correct that AT&T store folks by and large haven't a clue, but you'll find a good majority on this type of site treat anything put out by LG with extreme caution. Their support is miserable when it comes to software updates AND release of drivers etc... Many of us are hopeful, because of the N4 being an LG product on some level, that they'll wake up and smell the coffee, but I am not holding my breath.
It is a great handset, but I am a flash addict, and I've been down this road before. I still own a G2x that I've passed on to my daughter.
I have been debating whether to get the Nexus 4 16 gb ($359 CDN + $20 shipping + 5% tax = $400) or go with the Rogers Optimus G which is being offered $129 ($135 with tax) on a 3 year contract. That is a huge price difference.
The risk with choosing the Optimus G is that it never gets its bootloader unlocked and I'll always be stuck with an outdated, limited version of Android.
For this reason I've decided to go with the Nexus 4 even though the initial price is higher. If the Optimus G gets unlocked I can always sell the Nexus and recoup most of the expense. If the Optimus never gets unlocked, I'll be satisfied with my Nexus purchase and I'll even be able to sell it in a year when the next Nexus phone is released.

I agree. Lack of LTE is what killed the N4 for me and pushed me to the LGOG. If the OG bootloader never gets unlocked and Google get their wits about them and releases an LTE N4 in the future, I'd be happy to switch.
Ok, I need a couple of opinions on what to do ... Just an hour ago I've recieved an intruiging offer ... To trade my GNexus for a LG Optimus G ... My GNexus is really in a mint condition, from the day I bought it it had an SGP Case + screen protectors, so no visible scratches on it ... And today a guy offers me a brand new, unopened Optimus G in trade for my GNexus ( which, by the way, has a decent amount of accessories - extended battery - regular battery - 2 back covers - 5 screen protectors - 2 SGP Cases ) + 120 $ ... I mean, I have to pay additional 120 $, not the other guy I wasn't really planning to buy another phone ( YET ) ... Atleast for another 10 - 12 months ... But he made such a good offer I don't really have much time to play with my GNexus lately, since I got a new job ... So what'cha think folks? Trade or not?

this is a pretty good deal. its a much more powerful phone, it Should have Jellybean Fairly soon, build quality is really nice, and screen is amazing. the UI is a little "meh" but the bad part (launcher) can be covered up fairly easily. but you just have to ask yourself what is more important to you....quick updates with new features about 2 times a year, or powerful hardware that will probably not get past 4.1.1

I was rather waiting on a new Nexus device, or perhaps for the Phone X ... So I would switch my phone anyway in about a year or so ... And what's crossing my mind is the fact that I'd probably sell Optimus G for more cash then I would sell the GNexus in a period of 1 year ...

One can always wait for the next great product.
If you like the features then get the phone. It has gotten good reviews and has a good reputation here.
Go for it. This phone should last you the amount of time you want it to without it feeling outdated by the 1 year mark. Hard to say what will be our in 3 years but I plan to keep mine for to better part of 3 years.
I'd wait and see if there's gonna be a new nexus phone with L or go for the N5. This phone lags sometimes, has pretty low development activity (yeah, I know the reason, no complaint but a fact). After my nexus 4, I should've gone with the N5. The G3 is an okay phone in my opinion and looks sexy but the wow factor is missing for me...
The phone is great ..... but its really what you want your phone for and whether it fits those particular needs, I'm afraid there is no absolute answer, its about your needs and whether this phone fits them or another is more suitable.
I would advise research and checking it out and the competition, sorry no easy answers.

I'll try to tell you my history, from a person that doesn't change their phone every 3 months, or.. in a better way, a xda-user exception.
Got the Gnexus almost on the end of its lifespan (4 months before Nexus 4 release). It lasted 2 years when I gladly changed it to LG G3.
I saw a lot of reviews to after choose LG G3. What you will see outside is questions about the battery life due to the "unnecessary" QuadHD display.
Having a Gnex for 2 years is undoubtedly a nice school for battery life and screen on time use...
I really don't care about that after having that phone for 2 years.. and in every aspect besides battery life, LG G3 wins (for me).
So, tl:dr, buy it without doubt, grab a spare battery if you care so much. The design and the display of LG G3 destroy every other phone released till today.

Yeah, true, but I don't want to end up throwing it away because it's not that good. So I asked

I see. Why isn't it getting high dev activity?
I don't really know!

Well, yeah, if you can't wait, go into a shop and try it, play around with it and decide how it feels for you. At end it's gonna be u using it I'm not happy with it but I'm okay with it personally. Only reason I got it is that I broke my nexus 4 and got a good deal on it from my SP. Otherwise I was thinking about ordering a nexus 5. Had it in my hand, used it before, I just simply love nexus phones for aosp android, quick updates knowing Google is behind it and if they screw something up in the software they will be quick to release a fix while manufacturers won't be, and to be honest they make shifty UI except Sony imo but I had 2 Xperia phones, both were flagship devices and both sucked.
But as said before, it's your own personal preference. Try it in a shop and you'll see it for yourself. It looks really sexy with the huge display with the tiny bezels and reminds me of the nexus 5 a bit as well. Though I miss my aosp android experience and the quick updates. I however appreciate for instance the IR control and the camera.

So, should I wait for it? It's gonna cost $600+ and I won't buy any other phone in 200 stellar galaxy years after that. lol

When is N6 gonna be released? And that one, too, would be my last phone for a long time. So it's better if it's really great

The Note 3 was announced early last September and released at the end. Samsung staff have been told there's going to be no annual leave around the middle of Septemeber, the correlates to what happens around their releases. There's no way they'd wait over a month from when they announce to being on sale.
The G3 struggles with the 801 powering it. Check out the videos of a comparison of the G3 805 Vs G3 801. Check out the articles on Samsung's new QHD screen technology also,it uses less power. There may be other better phones out later this year or next but it would be mad to buy an 801 QHD phone when the other major companies are about to release their 805 versions.

I don't want to buy another mobile phone within at least 2-3 years as I'm starting high studies and I won't have much to spend then, but I really need a mobile that can handle everything and can last a lot.
Do you think it's worth it or is there another mobile coming soon that's better? Is it going to be supported by the community for a long time?

Just out of interest, would that be a grey import? The cheapest I can find in UK which is probably imported from EU is £390 which is about 480 Euros. Or is it second hand? Makes more sense if it is the latter.

Would love to read about their new screens using less power, do you have a link?
I had the note 3 for a year and upgraded to the G3 as soon as it came out. Im seriously thinking about upgrading again. I'm just a fool for the latest and greatest, but i do really love the G3. The wife has the note 3 so I was gonna give her the G3. Keep it in the family. What do you guys think? Anybody else going to make the move? The edge really has my eye.

I've had all 3 notes and the first 4 Galaxy S devices. i got the LG G3 to take a break from samsung as the UI was getting boring. Every new Samsung device I got felt like all the others except a little more powerful. I was looking forward to September 3rd to hear what the Note 4 was going to have, and I must say I was a little disappointed, expecially with no water proofing. I think I am going to sit this Note out and wait for the LG G4. Other then a finger print scanner, note 4 doesn't have much more my G3 doesn't have. Little faster 805 processor but whooptie doo lol. I'm actually very happy with it and can't justify a $800 purchase to buy a Note 4. The wrap around screen seems worthless to me. But hey, different strokes for different folks.

I'll pick my note 4 as soon as it is released. I'm tired of slow development among the community , device which commonly overheats, and not getting updates from t-mobile. Note 4, here I go

Yeah but isn't Samsung locking down the bootloaders across all carrier's now? If you think development is slow on the g3 just wait until you're on a unbelievably impossible to unlock Samsung boot loader.
I too am disappointed with the development with the G3. Which is one reason for me jumping as well. Seems that all the samsung devices ive had always had strong development. But i hear you on the otherside of this. I left samsung too to try something different and like i said i love my G3. I love size of it especially. But i dont know...the note 4 does offer alot of nice features..but its not THAT much better then the G3. Im going to have to compare first hand.

Note 4 features a snapdragon 805 processor , which is more adequate to deal with QHD screen. LG G3 demands a lot from processor capabilities due to its high display resolution, what leads the phone to overheat. The front facing camera on new note 4 has been vastly improved. There's a sort of green tint on photos taken using LG G3 front facing camera. Screen on battery life, is pretty disappointing on LG G3 as well.
You guys talking about lack of development are Crazy it takes time to do these things as soon as things get ironed out i know 2 people already working and have roms being already booted!! Just calm down and relax things are happening!

I'm not complaining about that.... I know nobody is being rewarded for developing Roms for our devices.... However is disappointing to see how slow this forum is, mainly due to the wrong decision made by LG of keeping locked bootloader in mostly LG G3 variants. It drives me crazy how aggressive is the camera white balance and how fast it discharges once you turn its screen on. Not mentioning how hot it gets when processing heavy tasks.
For me it depends on weather Note 4 handles heat better than G3. If it is, I think I'll upgrade.
All the people complaining about slow development, either contribute to the development or be quiet. It is utterly ridiculous to complain about development on a device that has not even been out that long. Samsung is becoming like Apple, more of the same and less innovation. The note 4 is basically the s5 enlarged and added hardware additions minus the weather proofing.
Yea I'm sure development is going to go faster on the note 4.... Maybe as fast as the galaxy S5! Cause it only took them a few months to get CM, how dare the G3 take just as long [emoji33]
Look, we are looking at less than a week until CM hits the G3, stock AOSP is coming, after that it's just a matter of time before all sorts of stuff starts hitting.. people who think there is slow development aren't paying attention..
The devs develop for phones in their spare time, for free, without asking for much in return. The G3 has been out for not even two months yet so did you really expect there to be the same level of options available as phones that have been out MUCH longer?
Two things to consider.
1. The other variants are locked down. This limits development for the T-Mobile variant because let's be frank; devs are devoting their time to unlocking the other G3's instead of focusing on one variant.
2. The G3 will have CyanogenMod available probably within the week. That is awesome. So people ARE working on developing for the phones. If you're unhappy with the speed of the development, why don't you read up on how to develop for Android, and make your own ROM.
This is the same story that follows almost every device with the exception of Nexus devices. Phone gets released, time is taken to root and unlock bootloader. People are patient through this process. As soon as the bootloader is unlocked, people are *****ing about not having a flawless ROM within a day. Complaints start flowing in about how development is slow and there is no one working on anything. There is another phone coming out within a few weeks to a month, and those same people *****ing jump ship to that phone once it comes out. Give it a month, and then they start the process all over again on that device while posting things along the lines of "Should have kept 'X' or 'Y' phone, development for this phone sucks!" The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
TLDR; stop your *****ing and learn to develop for the G3 if you're unhappy with the phone.

When the note 3 first came out by week 2 we had 2 kernels and about 3-5 Roms so yes this phone does lack development. I am greatful to the 2-3 devs that are working on it but this phone just does not have the following. It is what it is.
AWESOME G3
Handling Overheat
Some folks are talking about poor overheat handling in our G3 but is just a minor issue. I have set a profile for that on SetCPU:
Turn this profile on when...
Any of these are true...
Battery <= 30%
Battery >= 41 C
Set the CPU speed
300-300
Priority: 100
My G3 never overheats now.

You are forgetting thats before sammy got cute with the bootloader. Roms were out for the note 2 in weeks, same for s4, took a bit longer on the note 3, far longer on the s5...I can only imagine where the note 4 going to be. For our development hunger, i hope not as long as the g3 ..i mean who dont want pages, upon pages of roms and kernels for a phone that have been out for almost two months with lock bootloaders.
This is the problem with tmobile. US has the least amount of talented developers, especially for tmobile because 99% are busy whining, complaining, and throwing antsy fit about the lack of development. the 1% that DO something are not recognize. smh. Spend more time learning how to develop, less time complaining maybe...just MAYBE development will get far.
P.S that second paragraph isn't pertaining to the quoted individual.

Thered probably be more development if all but the tmobile g3s didnt have locked bootloaders. Im sure that its not too hard to convert the roms available for the other g3s. I guess comming from a nokia windows phone where not much development has happened, the devlopment here has been pretty quick to me. Just have to be patient.
I've been a Samsung fan for a long time now, but I recently got my LG G3 and doubt I'll be parting with it anytime soon. at least not until the G4 comes out
