[q] system wipped, help - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Pros out there,
I am new to rooting and all these. I used Kindle Fire Utility and installed TWRP on my Kindle fire. While playing around with TWRP, I wipped my system without knowing the implication.
What do I do now? Please help!
Thanks in advance.

You can use adb commands to transfer the rom of choice to your Kindle and then you can simply flash it.
First, give this thread a read. It'll teach you pretty much everything you need for ADB and Fastboot with the KF.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547
After figuring out how to use adb, here are the commands you need to transfer files to your Kindle.
http://log.amitshah.net/2012/05/using-adb-to-copy-files-to-from-your-android-device/
That should keep you occupied for a while. If you run into trouble just post.
Also, sorry about not just telling you what to type, you're supposed to search and read the stickies before making a thread.

[Q] REMOVING TWRP software

I have just downloaded the twrp software today on my kindle fire. It wont download any of the custom ROMs so I am just stuck on this screen. I even called Amazon and they couldnt help me...
Does anybody know how to remove TWRP from the kindle and set it back to the default system and its normal setup??
You called amazon and asked about twrp? Lol.

I'm sure that for you, this is not amusing. But for me, its funny for so many reasons. We'll fix you up, don't worry. But first let me explain a few things.
When you make any alterations to Amazon's proprietary Kindle Fire interface such as rooting or installing custom recovery, you void your warranty and in the process waive certain benefits like Amazon customer service.
But since you have already done that, you want to make sure you have good fail safes to protect your investment. Of course one of those fail safes is custom recovery (TWRP). Removing it at this point with the skill level you are at right now is a VERY BAD IDEA.
The good news is, your Kindle is not broken. In fact, its doing exactly what it was designed to do, although its pretty hard for you to see that at the moment.
So the first thing you need to do is read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23747567
And come back when you are done

I'm guessing thousands of people have used TWRP successfully to get ROMs installed, so I suspect something else is going on. Maybe you'd like to give this a read...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547
so you can get an idea of how things work. Then if you want to explain...
1) what you did so far and how you did it
2) how you are trying to install ROMs
3) exactly what your Kindle Fire is doing
I or someone else here can help you get where you are going. Whether that's flashing a new rom or going back to stock, that's up to you.
As a side note, calling Amazon to tell them you've voided the warranty by flashing unauthorized software and then asking for help is probably not a good idea.
EDIT: There were no replies yet when I started typing.
Next Step
Alright I have read the thread from that link, now what is the next step?
It could be the cable. When you download stuff, always try at least 5 times. I always have to anyway.
Haha to calling Amazon by the way.

kindle gen 1 twrp
Hey I have a KF 1st gen that I have rooted. Currently it is I guess stuck in twrp. It is holding the blue and white KF logo. I can use the power button to go into boot mode/twrp to reboot. However once past that area it will immediately power down. And truly I would liketo go back to stock rom.

Your in Bootloader, and Twrp is not working correctly
You will need to flash twrp to fix.
See How to flash twrp and firefirefire with a Fastboot cable
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53652317&postcount=2
Shows basic steps, you have Bootloader, so don't need the fastboot cable, so download adb files, and twrp.IMG
And use
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrpfilename
Fastboot reboot

KF1 flashed with TWRP 2.2.21-blaze/CM11 OtterX Nightly
Successfully flashed the above TWRP on a KF1, and then used it to install CM11 OtterX Nightly the latest (10-04-2015) build.
Now it's stuck in boot loading.
Reentering TWRP console, which I can do--I have full TWRP, but I no longer have any Zips to install from. (My SDCard was wiped.)
I've tried to use ADB to push (after struggling with the drivers) the build back to my KF1, but I find I don't have permissions set up correctly.
I did reflash TWRP as is recommended below, but that did not help the boot load freeze.
Can I use ADB to push the build back for a reinstall? Can I use fastboot to push it?
What is the proper course to recover this KF1?
BTW, I do not have a factory cable.
Thanks for the help!

TWRP 2.2.21-blaze is not compatible with any roms with "OtterX" , CM11, or CM12
"Otter" CM 11 requires Twrp 2.7.1.0 or newer
see Kindle Fire Flashable Recoveries/FFF TWRP/COTR/CWM
OtterX roms require OtterX bootloader, and OtterX Twrp

Factory cable is not needed if you have a custom bootloader
Thanks to your help SD I was able to install the Otter CM 11!
Now, I'm trying to install the ZIP of Open Gapps Nano for 11, and TWRP is reporting that I don't have enough space.
More investigation!

what's the full file name? size?
So, SD, I was able to install the pico Open Apps after installing gaps-kk. When that had me hanging in boot, I entered TWRP again and then did a wipe. On a whim, I rebooted into TWRP after the wipe, and tried to install the PICO OpenGapp zip. And, it installed!
I rebooted, and now I have GAPPS!
Can't explain it, but now it works. Thanks for all your help!

Yes, the SoupKit that is posted now has an older version of TWRP. I'm in the process of updating it so you should probably grab it while you have the chance, should you decide to go that route. You could also install Cannibal Open Touch Recovery. All versions of it are quite stable.

So if I'm inside twrp and have soupkit up on the PC and have my kindle plugged in and change it to fast boot then hit flash twrp will it do its thing and downgrade me and reboot my kindle into twrp 2.2 and let me install a ROM.
It has been brought to my attention that you may be confused between the KFU (Kindle Fire Utility) and TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project). The KFU is a Windows based utility used to change bootmodes, install custom versions of the recovery and bootloader partition images along with various other tasks. It has no affiliation with TWRP, COTR, or FireFireFire, other than it installs them to your device for you.
However, the "bug" in TWRP mentioned earlier is due to that way it handles the updater scripts in certain ROMS. It has nothing to do with your system files. The reason you have no system files right now, is because you wiped them prior to attempting to flash a ROM. Since the ROM was never successfully flashed, you have no system files in place, therefore nothing to boot to.
Downgrade your version of TWRP, or install a different recovery altogether, make sure you have wiped data (factory reset) and reinstall your ROM. After that, you should no longer have any problems.
I strongly suggest you take the time to read the guides and tutorials available for the Kindle Fire and make sure you understand how everything works before you do something and get yourself in a situation that you can't get out of on your own.

I did read your post, entirely.
I'm addressing the fact that you contacted the developer of the KFU, and due to your confusion about things work, gave him the impression that I said something that I clearly haven't.
The "bug" mentioned earlier in this thread has nothing at all to do with the KFU, therefore the developer of that utility is not responsible for it. That being said, the bug in TWRP that prevented you from flashing a ROM has nothing to do with the fact that you don't have system files, as you erroneously assumed.
Even with that, you as the user, assume all responsibility for anything you do to your device, not the developers of this community. This is a community of developers, for developers. This is not a community of developers, for people that don't know what they're getting into, and run into trouble as a result of it.
Now, for your problem at hand...
If you go through this thread carefully, you'll see that I have already answered your question. Go back and pay attention to what's been said and you should be fine.

I can't believe this is still being discussed.
Yes, you can flash recovery in recovery using a flashable .zip (like the one I posted) or via the command line. And SoupKit will install recovery whether you are booted into fastboot, recovery, or a normally booted device.
You're making this way harder than it needs to be. You could have avoided all of this if you would have just read the guides and tutorials available to you from the start.

[Q] Help? Revert TWRP to 2.2.2.1 to install stock kindle OS

I've been trying to get back to stock Kindle OS and I almost bricked my kindle attempting this last night, I tried wiping the device to install it like I found on a forum here, step by step, when I accidentally wiped my backup and had no OS. I fixed that by installing the CM10 NIghties or whatever its called but I still want to get back to stock. Its come to my attention that the version of TWRP I have won't work trying to install the legit kindle update, so I need to downgrade TWRP to 2.2.2.1, not to mention I don't have a computer and even if I did I don't know how to ADB. SO, is there a way to downgrade my twrp recovery through the device? Or is there another way to get it to stock without bricking my device? All help is appreciated. Thanks.

Ok I hope to be more specific now,, I rooted my kindle -- put on twrp and fff 1.4-- then began with creating a backup. My after my backup was created I took the initiative to install android 4.3 or (cm-10.2-20130817-2316-otter-sgt7.zip) renaming it to update.zip...Upon after that I was confused if a newer kernel was needed to run the rom so I tried to install kernel_otter-cm-10.2-20130825-1250-exp.zip along with it.. Thinking it wasn't an issue I ignored installing the kernel and tried installing rom. Then I realized nothing would install... Then I realized firefirefire didn't install and it had to be done separately in the utility .9.9 so I flashed it regardless of the state of my os. I got really tired and stupid and opened up my recovery and I believe I erased my partition.. I cant really remember exactly... Anyhow Im current stuck at cyanogen boot logo. I been trying many of the methods youtube and the utilities have to offer but What stops me being able to just restore my kindle is not having my data nor catche.

[Q] Kindle Fire 1st Generation (ROOTED)

Hi. I had been rooting my KF1 since I had the guts to do it. Anyway, in a couple of years we always update it. So yeah, I had my KF factory reset just this year because no one answered my question about how to install a new ROM when you already have your KF rooted. So I was back to zero and did the same process, everything was a success. Now, I don't want to go through the same process because I don't have the PC I used to install the KFU before. And my PC is running on Windows 8 and I've read there are problems in installing KFU on Windows 8.
The main question is, is it necessary to update my TWRP to the latest version? I don't have a Windows 7 PC. I just want to install a new ROM (Kitkat) and gapps since my Google Apps has been crashing already. My KF1 is currently running on Jellybean.
Thanks for your immediate reply!
You need twrp 2.7.x to flash KitKat. There is a zip file available to flash in an existing twrp. Then you can download kk and flash it.

You will need a Fastboot Cable see
Using Factory/Fastboot Cable to Flash FFF Bootloader and TWRP Recovery
So basically I use the fastboot cable and somehow that will launch TWRP which I never had. And it will allow me to flash a ROM to get it working again

The fastboot cable forces the kindle into fastboot mode, where twrp and fff (custom bootloader) can be flashed.
once you have twrp, you can reinstall stock or install a custom rom
Ok so the fastboot cable allows the kindle access to twrp and once I have that how do I install a new ROM I really want Android (4.4 or up)

the Fastboot cable allows you to flash Twrp/fff.
You don't need the cable to access twrp
Pick a rom from the Index, download it to a pc, connect kindle,
In twrp select Mount>check storage/sd card>mount usb
copy rom file to Kindle

Thank you so much. I just need to know if everything in your video works the same on Mac and if you know what ROMS actually work with the version of TWRP you provided. Your a real Lifesaver
