I tried to install viper x on my phone but missed out putting the ROM on my SD card, it now seems to be stuck at the HTC logo, I cant access the SD as on the PC when connected it shows a Removable Drive and a CD Drive, both of which are inacessible.
How can I get the ROM onto my phone to install it?
Have you tried mounting USB storage from recovery?. And which recovery are you using ?
Sent from a pile of cabbage with XDA Premiumiumium
When I enter recovery there are no options just the loading screen then it switches to a red triangle with an exclamation mark.
Im not sure what you mean by recovery, I didnt make a backup etc. I did download endevour recovery signed.img for my CID and version but not used it as not sure if I need it or not, completely stuck at the moment.
It sounds like you have not installed a custom recovery, the list you refer to in the viperx thread, that includes fastboot and recovery etc, is actually the bootloader. You need to flash either cwm or twrp recovery via fast boot. Or search for an all in one tool if you are not comfortable with fastboot and adb commands
Sent from a pile of cabbage with XDA Premiumiumium
Im fine with the ADB commands, can you tell me where I can get CWM recovery files? are they CID specific or anything?
I just downloaded CWM Recovery from here: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
The GSM one, is this the correct file? its a UK Voda One X VODAP001 CID.
Also my bootloader is set as unlocked at present.
I flashed that recovery and now have storage mounted and visible, can I just put the viper rom onto the deivce storage as firmware.zip and intsall it now?
Aye that's the right one, 5840. Sorry if I'm reaching Granny to stuck eggs but power off, then hold vol down and power until boot loader appears, and don't worry about the USB master fail thing. Copy the cwm to your fastboot folder and rename it recovery.img. With cable in and "fastboot USB" highlighted type in command window " fastboot flash boot boot.IMG" press enter then reboot into the recovery and follow the previous instructions to mount and copy

Excellent thanks, its installing now. Phew.... one thing it did say is I need a custom Kernel as im not S-OFF, any idea what this is?
ignore the kernel thing for now, just use the boot img from the viper zip. if you want a custom kernel you can install one later, you only need it if you wanna overclock or use some of the advanced tweaks

I had CM 7.2RC1 on my phone. Today, after taking a nandroid backup, i wanted to transfer the file to my comp. It was unable to do so. Now I have the following problem:
CWM cannot recognise my sd card.
I tried to reflash my rom. But CWM says unable to mount /sdcard or error mounting sdcard
CM7.2 stuck in boot loop
I can see view the sdcard in my computer. But my phone is unable to detect it. Please help me out.
Thank you in advance
It looks like a USB brick to me. Which recovery do you have? If you have 4ext then you may be able to solve the problem. It has a USB unbrick feature with auto detection.
Edit. You have cwm. Flash 4ext in fast boot.

Its ClockworkMod Recovery. Just to put me at ease, have I bricked my phone? or can I get out of this mess?
EDIT : Could you please tell me the command to flash ext4 in fastboot. As ADB doesnt seem to be working.
Thank you
OK ADB and SDCard not working. Looks like USB brick. It can be fixed. Get a 4ext touch recovery .img first. BTW are you SOFF? What does your bootloader say? You cant give fastboot commands without SOFF. If you are not fastboot then you will have to flash a PB99IMG.zip from bootloader from4ext more on that later..
The command to flash recovery is
Code:
fastboot flash recovery yourrecovery.img

If you need a recovery.img link here it is. Unzip it and use the img. I have to leave now.

Unlocked the boot loader.
Installed CWM (v5.8.4.0 from fast boot)
Then when i navigate to the rom it says its completed update? seems to take only 30 seconds when I reboot it brings me back in CWM.
Basically I can mount the phone phone through clock work mod and see the rom/zip file but it installs as update and just keeps popping back into clockwork mod? am I able to just get this back to normal?
finding update package...
opening update package...
installing update...
finishes after 15 seconds? saying install from sdcard complete. have I missed a step?
Help me please guys I feel the information I followed as done away with a boot.img?
Cheers,

I extracted the boot image from the downloaded rom and placed that in to the fastboot folder? I followed these instructions mate, I think ive messed up the boot?
Copy the CM10 ZIP file to your phone’s internal SD card.
On the PC, extract the Fasboot.zip. You will get a folder named Fastboot.
Extract the boot.img file from the cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-028.zip file and place it into the Fastboot folder.
Turn your phone off.
Boot to Fastboot Mode. Hold down the Volume Down and the Power buttons until the screen turns on to enter Bootloader Mode.
In Bootloader Mode, highlight Fastboot Mode using the Volume keys and select it by using the Power button.
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.
Open a command prompt on your PC and navigate it to the Fastboot folder.
In the command prompt, type fastboot devices to check if your device has successfully connected to your PC. Your phone’s serial number should appear on the screen.
Flash the boot.img by typing the following in the command prompt:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Go back to your phone and select Bootloader to go back to the main Bootloader menu.
In Bootloader Mode, highlight Recovery using the Volume keys and select it by using the Power button to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
Select Wipe data/factory reset > Yes.
Select Install ZIP from SD card > Choose ZIP from SD card > select the cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-028.zip file > Yes.
Select Go back > Reboot system now.
Ive then updated to a newer cwm as per this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819
I dont think i can enter fast boot no longer? I can still mount things, but dont know what else.

Your bootloader and recovery are independent of your rom. you will be able to access them even without a rom installed.
the erase cache fuction is not necessary.
Just flash your boot image again.. and try installing the rom again.

I dont think I updated the hboot? should I bother?
I am using the CM10 rom? I know its down to each tastes and requirement but is this a decent one? phone runs smoother than my LG 4X HD P880 despite that scoring more in benchmarks.
I still technically have not installed the rom through CWM? I just used cmd prompt to flash a boot image then it started up.

You can update the hboot if you want. All the sense based JB roms work only on the upgraded hboot. Though AOSP roms work on all hboots. So upto you.
Hello Guys,
Today I bought an second hand HTC One X. Unfortunately for me it came with an customized rom.
Details:
Android version 4.1.2
Smallband version 1.1204.103.14H
Kernel version 3.68-TripNDroi_pro_series-012 / [email protected] #4
CPU: ARMv7 Processor rev 9 (v71
CynogenMod version: 10-20121227-UNOFFICIAL-endeavoru
Build number cm_endeavoru-userbug 4.1.2 JZO54K eng. noeri.20121227.173141 test-keys.
I guess that is the required information? I see some topics with the same question and they need some fastboot numbers/details to determine what rom could be used? I am an absolute noob into flashing Android ROMS and I have no idea how I get into bootloader (Google couldn't really help me).
Can anyone help me and give me some information about how I can get back to the original ROM or at least a HTC Sense based ROM (I love HTC Sense).
Thanks in advance!
Look at the 4th Sticky in the android development forum titled:
[TUT] Getting back to stock after flashing custom roms [Noob friendly]
Best of luck.
If you love stock, try the ARHD 18.1 rom, this is pretty much stock but lighter and faster.

Ok that would be great! Bon apetit
It would also be fine for me to install just a customased ROM with Sense I guess. Because the main part of me never using custom ROM's was missing the HTC Sense part (I always used to do Windows Mobile rom changes cause that was easier IMO). I don't know if that would be any easier than flashing back to stock?

Yea I guess I like the Venom Viper X rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087443)
1. Make sure your that your HBOOT is 1.31 or greater
2. Check if you CID is supported, visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1957376 for updates. Cheers Mike
3. Unlock your bootloader via HTCDev and install a custom recovery.
4. Download the ROM and place it on your virtual SD card.
5. Do a nandroid backup!
6. Extract boot.img from ROM zip and flash it using ‘fastboot flash boot boot.img’.
7. Use 'fastboot erase cache' to avoid boot issues.
8. Go into recovery and install the ROM.
9. Please choose fullwipe if you are asked, highly recommended if you go from one rom from another rom.
10. Reboot the device and enjoy!
Just to be sure, I can skip step 1 till 5 right? en start with step 6? Or start with 7?
This info is quite advanced and I couldn't really find a noob-proof guide to flash over another custom ROM (or am I that blind).
Thank you so much for your help!

Fastboot erase cache

Re: CM10-> Sence. Now doesn't load and won't go to recovery[HELP]
If you have a copy of the stock Rom zip on your pc, extract the boot.img from within the zip into the folder where Fastboot is. Then go into Fastboot mode on the phone, plug in USB cable and it should change to Fastboot USB (in red) on the phone.
Once in that mode run a dos terminal command: Fastboot flash boot boot.img (run dos window in Fastboot folder or specify full path to boot.img).
It should only take 3-5 seconds to complete.

I meant to finish by saying, if you don't have a copy of the zip on pc, you should be able to copy the file using adb.exe.
At "Fastboot USB" mode on phone, on pc in terminal window type: adb devices. If it returns a long number then that's your phone serial number and your good to go.
Type adb /? to see all commands. Near top will list adb pull. See syntax there. Think it's just adb pull <zip filename> but check. That should copy file from phone to pc. Then you can extract boot.img and then follow my steps above

I helped him yesterday night
He have sense rom now
I unlocked my HTC One X using the HTC software, no problems.
Installed Cyanogenmod using the wiki install. It worked, but once it was installed, no computer would recognise my phone any more. I've tried installing several drivers using the Android SDK and the guides here (Latest HTC Drivers), here (How to solve ADB : 'Device Not Found' error in Android), and here ([HOWTO] Installing HTC Drivers for adb/fastboot on Windows 8). Nothing worked.
Stupidly, I thought it wouldn't matter much and left it. But yesterday I tried updating Cyanogenmod to the latest stable 10.2.1. It caused my phone to simply show the "HTC quietly brilliant" logo and the restart constantly.
I've tried doing a restore, which didn't work. I've tried doing a factory reset, but all it does is load Clockworkmod recovery. And I can't simply "push" a rom onto the phone using cmd because no computers recognise my phone.
The phone turns on and charges just fine, but it repeatedly tries to start up and restarts. I CAN use HBOOT, Fastboot, and recovery though.
Any suggestions? Would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Okay sweet, I managed to flash PhilZ recovery on. But when I try to mount the sd card, still nothing happens. I can flash stuff but I can't access the sd card from my pc.
I tried doing a factory reset using PhilZ but now the phone just sits on "HTC quietly brilliant" and doesn't start up, even after attempting to flash a new rom.

you have to mount the sdcard, you will find the option in "mounts and storage" menu... after you do this, wait some mins... maybe it'll take a little time, but sdcard will get mounted
have you flashed boot.img via fastboot? if you don't do that, phone won't boot even if you flash rom zip...

Thank you again for responding so quickly
I did find it and tried to mount it but it didn't work. I can wait for a while but it shouldn't take that long?
I have tried flashing a few different ROMs (boot.img) via fastboot but none of them work, still stuck on "HTC quietly brilliant".
Is there a way to force install a kernel and rom using fastboot or recovery, without mounting the sd card?

yes, it might take 3-4 minutes to mount... anyway you don't have to mount sdcard to install a rom, only to copy it on sd to flash it later.... do the following steps in that order:
1) put the rom zip in sd if you don't have it yet (skip if you do)
2) enter fastboot and flash boot.img taken from zip
2a) fastboot flash boot boot.img
2b) fastboot erase cache
3) enter the recovery and choose "wipe to install a new rom"
4) select install zip from sdcard and install it (follow instructions)
5) first boot may take up to 10 mins, so be patient...
if you still have problems with that specfic rom, try another one and check if it boots... if you choose to install ViperX 4.0.6, search in th rom thread becuse some users have issues in flashing and you need to follow a particular procedure (i mean only wipe cache in recovery and full install in aroma)

Okay, FIXED now. I managed to restore the phone using some RUU and stock firmware packages. After that, I managed to flash ClockwordMod recovery - which actually allowed me to mount the sd card, which actually worked! So then it was an easy flash of kernel and install of CyanogenMod (for now).
Thank you so much for your help ! Didn't even know I'd be able to mount from recovery until you mentioned it several posts above.
