Unable to read sd card - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had CM 7.2RC1 on my phone. Today, after taking a nandroid backup, i wanted to transfer the file to my comp. It was unable to do so. Now I have the following problem:
CWM cannot recognise my sd card.
I tried to reflash my rom. But CWM says unable to mount /sdcard or error mounting sdcard
CM7.2 stuck in boot loop
I can see view the sdcard in my computer. But my phone is unable to detect it. Please help me out.
Thank you in advance

It looks like a USB brick to me. Which recovery do you have? If you have 4ext then you may be able to solve the problem. It has a USB unbrick feature with auto detection.
Edit. You have cwm. Flash 4ext in fast boot.

Its ClockworkMod Recovery. Just to put me at ease, have I bricked my phone? or can I get out of this mess?
EDIT : Could you please tell me the command to flash ext4 in fastboot. As ADB doesnt seem to be working.
Thank you

OK ADB and SDCard not working. Looks like USB brick. It can be fixed. Get a 4ext touch recovery .img first. BTW are you SOFF? What does your bootloader say? You cant give fastboot commands without SOFF. If you are not fastboot then you will have to flash a PB99IMG.zip from bootloader from4ext more on that later..
The command to flash recovery is
Code:
fastboot flash recovery yourrecovery.img

If you need a recovery.img link here it is. Unzip it and use the img. I have to leave now.

Remind me to buy you a beer if you are ever in my part of the world mate. Thanks a ton.

If 4ext does the job for you fine. Else post 13 of Bortaks thread is the other option.

Maybe you should get to your Recovery, unmoun SD card if mounted and mount again your SD. It may be helpfull

[Q] Installing CM mod via fastboot

Ok, so I bricked my wildire s.
Is there a way to install the unofficial cm mod using fastboot?
It seems I need boot.img, systems.img and data.img but in the "unofficial-CM7-marvel-nigthly-20111218.zip", I can only find boot.img. I do seem to have Clockworks Recovery Mode installed. And it's unlocked via htcdev.com.
I need to do it via fastboot, because i dont think I can access the sd card while in hboot, fastboot.
And if anyone reads this, please learn from me and always create a backup before you do anything with your phone. Otherwise you'll end up with just a brick.
Just reinstall cwm with recovery.img
in fastboot mode type:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
cwm recovery.img is attached below.
then you can install cm7 from cwm

This might work.
How "bricked" is it? Does it boot to hboot/fastboot with vol down/power after a battery removal/replace?
If so follow the instructions to install CWM recovery then flash CM7.2 1218 Nightly and GAPPS from there.
yeah hboot, fastboot and cwm is working. However i can't figure out how to access the sd card while in these modes. So, I am not sure if i can install cm with the traditional method.
So I am trying to figure out how to do it via fastboot.

In CWM you have the possibility to mount sdcard to your pc. what you need is the cm7 zip file, nothing more.
Guys you are awesome!
It works, it's installing
Thanks

Phone Stuck after ROM install

I tried to install viper x on my phone but missed out putting the ROM on my SD card, it now seems to be stuck at the HTC logo, I cant access the SD as on the PC when connected it shows a Removable Drive and a CD Drive, both of which are inacessible.
How can I get the ROM onto my phone to install it?
Have you tried mounting USB storage from recovery?. And which recovery are you using ?
Sent from a pile of cabbage with XDA Premiumiumium
When I enter recovery there are no options just the loading screen then it switches to a red triangle with an exclamation mark.
Im not sure what you mean by recovery, I didnt make a backup etc. I did download endevour recovery signed.img for my CID and version but not used it as not sure if I need it or not, completely stuck at the moment.
It sounds like you have not installed a custom recovery, the list you refer to in the viperx thread, that includes fastboot and recovery etc, is actually the bootloader. You need to flash either cwm or twrp recovery via fast boot. Or search for an all in one tool if you are not comfortable with fastboot and adb commands
Sent from a pile of cabbage with XDA Premiumiumium
Im fine with the ADB commands, can you tell me where I can get CWM recovery files? are they CID specific or anything?
I just downloaded CWM Recovery from here: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
The GSM one, is this the correct file? its a UK Voda One X VODAP001 CID.
Also my bootloader is set as unlocked at present.
I flashed that recovery and now have storage mounted and visible, can I just put the viper rom onto the deivce storage as firmware.zip and intsall it now?
Aye that's the right one, 5840. Sorry if I'm reaching Granny to stuck eggs but power off, then hold vol down and power until boot loader appears, and don't worry about the USB master fail thing. Copy the cwm to your fastboot folder and rename it recovery.img. With cable in and "fastboot USB" highlighted type in command window " fastboot flash boot boot.IMG" press enter then reboot into the recovery and follow the previous instructions to mount and copy

Excellent thanks, its installing now. Phew.... one thing it did say is I need a custom Kernel as im not S-OFF, any idea what this is?
ignore the kernel thing for now, just use the boot img from the viper zip. if you want a custom kernel you can install one later, you only need it if you wanna overclock or use some of the advanced tweaks

Getting message "The recovery hasn't been configure!"

Hi,
I try to format my HTC DESIRE S but ends with error.
"The recovery hasn't been configure!"
Use 4EXT Recovery Control or the free app 4EXT Recovery Updater, which is available on www.4ext.net to setup the recovery and to unlock configurable features. Hint: check out recovery settings
I have downloaded in to sd card but its an application and I cannot install the app because im still in recovery mode and cannot access the phone like dialing etc.

You can download a zip file with {4EXT Recovery}.img and flash it manually from your bootloader by using the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
4EXT Recovery Touch (Saga)
If you want more informations about 4EXT Recovery for HTC Desire S you can check this out.
If you have an older 4EXT Recovery installed try to delete the "4ext" folder from your sdcard. The recovery will recreate the settings folder. It may helps you with the error.
I have try to use "Fastboot" but couldn't connect even using htc sync and adb. Its totally cannot connect the phone to my computer. I have install the "recovery.img" file in sdcard and run it, and getting :
" this zip isn't meant to be flashed in recovery! It might be a bootloader flashable zip or nota flashable zip at all. Installation aborted."

Soft Bricked my M8

Hello everyone,
So, I soft-bricked my M8 after trying to downgrade from lollipop back to ViperoneM8. My first problem was that internal storage wouldn't mount in Twrp, but now it does. However, my phone doesn't boot all the way back, and it just boots into bootloader or TWRP. I also did a factory reset in TWRP, and I think my USB debugging is gone so I can't use the ADB sideloading tool. When I try to use this tool, and run CMD, "adb devices", it only says "List of devices attached" and it doesn't display my phone. I tried to mount my device through TWRP and insert a RUU, but when I try to flash it, it keeps saying NO MD5 file found. Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks
You could side load a ROM if you can get ADB to work, or using another device and SD card, put a ROM, or even stock nandroid from the stock nandroid collection thread, and install from the SD card from your recovery.

I have tried that. I installed the RUU-HTC_One_M8_GPE_5.0.1-3.11.1700.5_rooted file and sideloaded it, but it keeps saying No MD5 file found. I even tried the ViperOneM8_3.2.1 file as well, but that doesn't get recognized by the CMD prompt. I can't use the SD card slot since it's busted.
Should I download another file and sideload that instead?

Drag about the sd slot... As that's the easiest way.
My adb usage is limited. Are you saying adb doesn't recognize Viper? Try another rom perhaps. Or again... Try a nandroid image for your particular device.
And perhaps it's the wrong RUU, or download was damaged?

Yea the card slot is damaged. I tried another ROM, and this time through sideloading it, and it didn't work again. It said it successfully flashed and everything, but when I went to reboot, it rebooted twice and went straight into TWRP. I'm not familiar with flashing Nandroid, can you teach me or show me a guide? Thanks
