No internet connection after CM 10.1 Wild For The Night - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hi everyone,
I recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch (g.d. I hate how long that title is) to have CyanogenMod 10.1 "Wild For The Night" and it works great. Just recently I noticed that my service is not what it used to be and now the phone says"no internet connection". Turning airplane mode on and off does't help. Turning off 4G doesn't help. I also uninstalled the rom and went back to stock and that did not help the service issue. I'm on Sprint btw which I know is one of the worst carriers ever so it may just be Sprint sucking. Anyone else have any similar issues?
Thanks

What modem do you have?

I concur, make sure you've updated to a JB modem.

I thought the thread still said "Do NOT use a JB modem". It should still work on an ICS modem anyway.
@ OP, I would use RWilco's FL24 one click and update the PRL, Profile, and get a GPS fix. Then flash CM and enjoy.

Crapola, my bad. But it sure sounds like a wrong modem. ICS it is.

Wifi Signal Strength and Connectivity

Hey guys,
I recently received an E4GT, and threw on Caulkin's latest rom with the FE22 modem. I notice that in comparison to other devices (iphone 4s, original samsung galaxy tab, OLD dell laptop) my phone can't receive signals that these other devices get. I was hoping for some assistance if possible. I searched through the forums and didn't really see anyone with the same exact problem. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Try flashing a different modem. Some modems work better than others and different devices prefer different modems. I'm actually using FE22 modem and it works great for me. Remember to update profile and prl after you change modem.

As far as affecting the wifi I am at a lose, sorry.
Yeah my original question was asking why my device gets poor wifi reception, when other devices side by side get better reception...does the modem and prl affect this? What else could it be

You may want to try one of the later builds to see if it will help. Also doing a clean install helped me when I had problems.

Yes the modem affects wifi signal strength. Updating the prl and profile is something you do after flashing a new modem or a new rom. A prl update has nothing to do with wifi but it helps data and voice. Feel free to search for better definitions if you want more info.

Also check ur wifi settings....go to wifi and hit the menu button for advanced. Might be ur phone is looking for dual band connections. There is also a wifi fixer app in the market but I'm not positive on its usefulness

CM10 Kang - Anybody having call connection issues

I love JB - it's very smooth. True it's still in kang stage but am consistently getting dropped calls. Either I cannot hear the caller or vice versa. The workaround has to call 2 or 3 times then i get a clear voice connection. I looked in the development forums and nobody seems to address this issue. Being a new xda member am not able to post in the CM10 Kang thread.

I live in a 4G zone so I always have all 3G and 4G bars full all the time with this and other roms. This is the first ROM am having connection issues with. I flashed fc09 about a month ago and was on cm9 and aokp with no connection issues. Only flashed cm10 last week with different builds and they all seem to have this connection issue. What modem are u recommending?

The best modem is the one that works best for you... and 3g and 4g run off of different towers.. I also live in a 4g area, and while 4g is pretty reliable 3g can crap out pretty often... just try a different modem and if that don't help I can bring this up in the cm10 thread to see if anyone else is experiencing this or if there are more things you can try....
You should have posted this in the CM10 thread. Instead of creating a new one.
Also, I have no clue.

Decided to go back to aokp m6 after the broken call connection was still evident in all FC19/FC09/EL30 modems. Thanks everyone for the help. I'll try Jelly Bean some other time. The devs are already doing a lot porting JB to Epic. Now seriously considering getting the SIII.

Update: I went to a Sprint store and they confirmed(admitted) the call connection issues were being caused by the ongoing 4g lte tower by tower upgrades. Thought i'd post this update in case someone else needs it.

4g not connecting anymore!

Titles says it all. I live in the baltimore MD area, and where i used to get 3-4 bars of 4g it wont connect to it anymore. I boot it up and it defaults to 3G. Ive tried playing with the mobile data settings and nothing has worked.
Does anyone have any ideas...because i use my phones data connection as home internet right now...
How long has it been happening? It possible the tower is being worked on.

It just started today. Im on CM10 and i would occasionally lose a 4g connection and would have to swtich the mode from lte/whatever/whatever to the other mode...and then back to reconnect..but thats not working anymore....
Edit: This is killing me because I use it for home internet. Im paranoid simply because this is the first month ive used 4G ever...meaning i never even turned lte mode on in the mobile data settings..i didnt even know it was in my area until the beginning of this month.. Im just wondering if me toggling it on and off to get it to connect through CM10 caused this... Thats why im coming here..to smarter people then myself begging and pleaing for assistance and guidance.
Could it perhaps be that sprint was just testing my area for 4g?? OR how long does tower maintenance usually take.. Or that they cut me off from using 4g after using 30gb so far? I mean i have an unlimited plan so it shouldnt be an issue
No they didnt cut you off, they would send a letter before doing that
Second, it usually takes about 2-3 weeks for maintenance to complete on a tower. If you're really concerned, call Sprint and ask if they're in the process of upgrading towers in your area. Who knows, they might even give you some sort of "we're sorry for the inconvenience" credit

Im eyeballing this thread like a hawk for opinions and posts like this. Thanks for your input.
When I first used 4G It was actually by accident on the CM10.1 Nightly. I pressed the Mobile data toggle square in the settings and i saw 4g, I was thrilled that it was in my area. Switched back to stable CM10 and checked if it was up and running. and much to my surprise it wasnt some weird graphical error just showing the 4g icon. It was legit working.
Still isnt working on any rom ive flashed here. Now though since the issue began.
What are the chances in the short time ive used it, that i could have possibly damaged my phones abaility to connect to 4G? Sorry if that question is dumb.
Very little. I doubt that its a hardware issue, because if it were, you would see other things like core apps FCing, the other radios taking longer to connect, maybe even hot reboots when trying to turn on 4G
Like I said, when you have time call Sprint. Most likely the towers are being worked on and they turned it off meanwhile
You might wanna also wanna get Sensorly (from the Play Store) just to doublecheck for LTE in your area
Sent from my PG06100
When 4G lte came on in my area it was on for a couple of weeks then they shut it down for 4 or 5 days then it came on and it's been on for almost 3 months. Just fyi this might be what's going on.

I'm experiencing the similar issues, though I flashed over a ASOP Rom that has parts from cm10.1 though the Rom was ported from Verizon, but 4g worked perfectly fine, then when I flashed back to cm10 it stopped working. I'm debating on flashing back to that rom and see if it also does not have access to 4g at this time.
Edit/Update: I flashed back to my stock rom with root then flashed an updated MA6 Rom, updated the PRL, Profile and such, still no 4G. Decided that I'd mess with a few 4g settings, still problems. Then I flashed back to CM10 and my 4G works again.

Thats a bit of work, so this could possibly be some janky setting on my phone still huh?
EDIT: I dont have my stock rom backed up. Dont know what happened to it. Could you explain what exactly I need to do to achieve the results you have posted man?
Sorry for the late reply. It could possibly be a setting on your phone. I say make a backup of your rom, flash a stock based rom, kernel & firmware, if it's not ma6 find an update or one based on it. Update the prl and profile. See if you can get 4g working on tw, if not then either restore back to cm10 or try messing with the lte settings, their are some that allow you to enable or disable and such. I also do recall a setting for ehpd 4g or lte 4G. After messing with them try restoring back to cm10. If you take a picture of the lte menu I can look and tell you what settings I clicked.
Edit: Just looked at the link try the lte force cause I know I pushed that button as well as a few others.

I don't use a MVNO, so I am not sure which regular troubleshooting steps would clear away your carrier settings. (I'm thinking using EFS Clear in Odin is the only concern, but that is sometimes needed for modem issues.)
Based off that rom's thread, you must be using the NS4G modem. Since your issue is with connectivity:
Perform a CWM backup of your current setup.
Flash an Epic modem rom and FC09 modem. (You can flash the modem using CWM. There's a thread in the dev forum w/ links.)
Try testing connection again.
I'd normally tell a Sprint Epic user to boot into FC09 multiboot and update profile & PRL, but I don't even think the PRL update would work for you. I'd then say, start from scratch by using Odin to flash FC09 with repartition checked. If they still had issues with connectivity, then I'd recommend using EFS clear in Odin when reflashing either just the FC09 modem or the entire FC09 tar.
Because you are on another carrier, I'm weary of suggesting you use Odin so quickly. If you haven't already, dive into your phone settings and document your carrier specific info you changed to get it working. This way, if you end up doing something that resets your original changes, then you can reconfigure it.
So give the suggestion that is listed above a try.
Since I'm very much a noob myself, I'm only tossing this out to possibly trigger an idea for someone else: Would perhaps the issue lie in the Build.prop or one of those similar files? I've poked around so many of them I can't remember which hold what tidbits of info... I know the Build.prop holds most of the primary carrier info, but I seem to recall another one that stored a bunch of info for a bunch of the other carriers (though that might have been for roaming and may not be of any help here).
*shrug* Otherwise, I's gots nothin' lol

WIFI tether issues with custom roms

Hello Guys,
I am having WIFI Tether issues with any custom AOSP or AOKP rom. Installing a touchwiz related rom somehow resolves the tethering issues.
I've trying all the usual steps before installing a custom rom including wiping everything, factory reset and all that good stuff. But the native tether wont work on these roms. I tried the wifi tether apps in the app store but no success there.
However, what really gets to my nerves is that my daily driver is 4.1.2 liquid smooth rc7 version of the rom which i assume is based on aosp does allow wifi tether but only through the app in the app store. The native app continues to fail.
Someone once told me to install the wifi driver for the phone. Is that possible? If so how? By the way i am running a rogers s3 which is the at&t equivalent in US.
Also, just so you guys know, my other devices do pick up the wireless set up by my phone's tether, but it wont connect to it. password or not, it takes forever to connect and eventually fails.
Any advice?

Also, just so you guys know, my other devices do pick up the wireless set up by my phone's tether, but it wont connect to it. password or not, it takes forever to connect and eventually fails.
Any advice?

If you carrier is Rogers, you need to make some mods to tether 4G (H+, 3G will work w/o mods). There's a post about it somewhere in Task's AOKP thread, which I believe a search should find it. Google can also help.
Same issue here, Rogers LTE tethering didn't work and tried to google and find the mods as posted.
couldn't find the mods.
Please advise.

Wow!!
Thank you sooooo soooo much. I spent hours trying to figure a way out to get the tethering to fix. This worked out super easily. You've honestly saved me hours i wouldve spent.
Thank you for persisting with the solution for us.
Cheers.
Yeah, Thanks for the link too
However I am not able to get LTE tethering speed
I am able to get LTE speed (10mbps+) on my S3, however the device that's using the tethering only able to get (~1mbps)
any idea?

It's dependent of the device receiving it. If it's too old or it's drivers are too old it won't get the speed it should. Also tethering shares the connection, therefor, you won't get full speed on the receiving device.
Could be so many things actually that's it's hard to troubleshoot.
Thanks for the quick reply,
However, I am using CM10.1 latest Nightlies 04/26.

I think you got me wrong.
Your S3 doesn't really matter here as much as the device receiving the connection.

so what do you suggest in order to improve the data speed for the tethered device? or is there no way around this?

Like I said, it's dependent of so many things. First off, what device it receiving it? Is that device old? Are it's drivers up to date? Does it have a good reception/connectivity?
Did you try tethering to other devices?
