I flashed ParanoidAndroid on my Note 2 and I'm very unimpressed with the battery life. I haven't used this phone on Stock ROM at all but I've heard that the battery life is brilliant (with 4.1.1 if not with 4.1.2 because of some bug).
So to all modders over here, how's your battery life and which ROM are you using? Or is it only with Stock ROMs that we can experience the incredible note 2 battery?
AOSP ROMs aren't optimized for best battery life..
I'm using Phoenix ROM right now, 6-7 hours of screen time.
On AOSP (Carbon ROM) getting 5 hours of screen time
Moderate to heavy use..

how about the pen function? is there any rom to use pen with it?
they can all use pen as a pointer. no special functions though. just like your finger.

Would recommend you carbon ROM .. And enable the pointer icon from input settings..
And also you can set some spen pen button functions too..
Also if you get GMD Spen app , you get some of the things that's on Samsung ROMs has ..

I've to bump this thread again. I'm experiencing some VERY bad battery life with Neak Kernel + Paranoid Android.
Can someone suggest me some good ROM (pref AOSP) + Kernel combo for good/decent battery life?
I'm facing the same issue with ParanoidAndroid. Initially I found out that my mail client was consuming 40% of it. Now it is lasting 5h.

Well I see no such thing in my Battery stats in my Settings :/. Don't know what's eating up my battery.
I have Paranoid Android and the battery life for me seems pretty much the same as in my stock ROM. But I use a lot of third party apps like Greenify and I always tend to change the network to 2G
Sent from my Galaxy Note II using Tapatalk 4 Beta
What I don't understand is that with aosp I got almost 98percent no wake locks and greenified almost every app besides Whatsapp and yet I can manage only 5hours screen time. Whereas with stock rom such as Alliance 3.0 running perseus with half a dozen wake locks and I still manage to get 6hours or more screen time. I even configured the governor to pegasus and undervolted and underclocked and yet same results. And please don't say to change the kernel to neak or Redpill coz I've tried those configurations and no changes. I'd love it if someone who claims to reach 6+ hours of screen time with aosp to please share with us how you managed that because I've seen a few who make that claim but non willing to share.

Not much in it tbh, undervolting can help but i haven't seen much improved in the way of battery.
I would stay on stock or try faux for overclocking and undervolt i here good things about franco.

that is the problem with us xda folk, doesn't matter how good something is we will make it better, faster and better , just get a non overclocking kernel if you're worried and don't tick any "apply on boot" till you know things are stable.

ncx-217 V7.5 Is my favorite kernel, it has improved my battery life by almost 10% Right now im running IceColdJelly and nxc-217. I highly recommend this kernel!
Hi!
I'm running the Domination (build 6) and the faux-007m, and it's great! Super smooth and a lot of juice. Charging every other night :good: good enough for me, then... Good luck finding your super combo
@schmuts
Have you tried faux? In that case, what made you go with ncx? (I know they're both nice )
@bjornops Yes, i used faux-007 when i used to use the CM10 Domination. But when i switched to IceColdJelly AOKP ncx-217 it is also made for IceColdJelly.
thanks all
im on 010m
If battery life is what you're after, go for the ncx 0.99 (older version). This is the non-2.17 kernel base.
I'm now using the CM10 Nightlies rom with ncx-217_v7.6 AOSP karnel
and it seems the best combo for battery life.
I undervolted a lot (-100mv) and working on 1GHZ speeds and able to get 4-4.5 hours
of screen time. (with wifi use) The best for me so far ...
Are you getting better results with viper?
I'm getting nearly 5 hours of on screen time with the stock kernel and OrDroid ROM.

How are you using your device to get those 5 hours?
Mostly wifi/3g/2g?
Push? Auto sync?
Downclock?
Do you mainly surf/play games/video?
What screen brightness most of the time?

I have 3G and Wi-Fi always on. (No turning off wi-fi when phone sleeps)
I have Facebook, Mail, Gmail, Twitter all syncing and push notifications on.
Stock kernel, so no speed tweaks.
I don't play action games. Mostly Words with friends, Draw Something, Seige Hero, Solitaire, Fruit Ninja. That's basicall all the games I play. Most of the time I am on Tapatalk, Facebook, Instagram, RSS Readers and news services.
60% screen brightness

Any1 else want to comment about his battery life in his rom-karnel ?
When I was unrooted on stock I would usually get about 16 hours a day on batter. I rooted and used stock rom and same battery life. My battery life started draining after I started flashing roms. I had goodness rom and had great battery life for about a week. Then it started draining like nuts. So I switched. I am now running on FREEGS3 I did a complete wipe and to no avail I get bad battery life. I used titanium backup and removed some bloatware but still only getting about 7 hours of battery life. I stay on wifi at home. It drains faster if I am connected to 4G. What am I doing wrong here? I thought freegs3 was supposed to have insane battery life. Any help is appreciated...
Not a clue you provided 0 information to help us help you. Specific rom build, kernel, settings for screen, sync, etc battery stats in a screen cap
Download better battery stats and open it and let it sit in the background for a day then check the stats and post a screen cap that'll give more info to go on. No one can tell you why your battery life sucks from "my battery life sucks, help"
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
What evil said for sure...but I can tell you it has to b your settings or a rogue app because I get insane battery life from FreeGS3 v2.0.0. I don't have LTE available too me yet, but I always leave screen brightness on high, auto sync on, Wi-Fi, data and Bluetooth always on and with moderate use I routinely get 15-16 hours and one time with lite use I got 1 day 3 hours. I did disable the connection optimizer through titanium backup.

Info
Sorry for the lack of info in the last post. I'm still new to all this. I've rooted a Droid Charge, Galaxy Nexus and an EVO 3D but never used the forums for anything other than finding ROM's, so forgive my ignorance. Any ways, here's some info.
ROM: FreeGS3 JellyBean v3.0.0 - I installed it with the stock rom and the stock kernel it came with, but replaced the kernel to include bootanimation supper.
Kernel: LJ7KernelWithBootanimationSupportFIXED.zip Which shows up as below under "About Device" in the settings.
Kernel version
3.0.31-329968

As for screen settings, I have all of the power saving options enabled under power saving mode in the settings; CPU power saving enabled, Screen power saving enabled, Background color enabled, Turn off haptic feedback enabled. Automatic brightness is on also enabled.
Here's a screenshot of the battery screen under settings. This is after a full charge. I just downloaded BetterBatteryStats and will repost the results tomorrow. Going to let it run all night as I use it.
Thanks and sorry again. Will try to do better.

Here's some screenshots I took a little bit ago. The media thing has disappeared from the battery stats altogether. The settings under my google account were all checked, but I did uncheck as you see in the screenshot. I also have a samsung apps account but disabled the sync in it already. Those are the only two accounts I have. The "Media" already disappeared before I unchecked picasa and google movies and tv, neither of which do I use. I do use google play music though. Could that had been what was appearing in the battery stats earlier as media? Other than these few settings in my google account and the samsung account I don't know what else could be syncing. What is the "Internet" sync for under the google account and should I uncheck it?
Thanks

I dunno guys. It has gotten sporadic. The other day my battery lasted 9 hours. Then I charged it and it only lasted 5 hours. One time I check on the battery under settings and it said that the "Android OS" was using most of the batter. The last time I check it I got a screenshot and it said that the "Phone" was taking most of it and I didn't even call any one. I'm thinking of just doing a true wipe, and unrooting the phone and counter reset. Just to see what battery I get by going comoletely stock. Then maybe rerooting it. At the moment, I don't know what is happening and I really don't think the rom or the kernel has anything to do with it. I installed betterbatterystats and I don't know really know how to read the data.. I'm just stumped... blegh...

EvEFreeze the Sprint connections optimizer.
I've read those power saving mode things are counterproductive so i don't use them.
One thing that drastically helped me was navigating to system/bin using a file explorer, locating gsiff_daemon and qosmgr and renaming them to include .bak at the end. These are know battery hogs although I'm not smart enough to tell you why. You can always rename them back if it doesn't work. Be sure to reboot after renaming.

I did locate qosmgr as I noticed it was going nuts when I would display the cpu usage under developer options. I have heard of the other one but haven't noticed it running. Oh well may as well give it a shot. I have the connection optimizer turned off so it won't keep searching for a wifi connection and I can just turn wifi on and off as wanted. I do, however have the power saver options turned on. They worked great for me when unrooted. Hmm. Next task will be to locate that other file and rename it. Worth a shot.

Yeah I know it isn't from rooting. It is just I don't know what caused the battery drain.. I installed odexed blue, and I got a major increase in battery life. Only problem is I don't like the ROM because it's just too much blue for me. Lol I don't mean to be picky.. just hurts my eyes.. why? I dunno. But the battery life is great so far. I can't comment on that rom but I am running the goodness rom and my battery works great. I would say at least as good when I was on rooted stock. The roms is very stable and has tons of options.

A couple nights ago i flashed a 4.2.2 P.A.C man ROM ( dont get me wrong i love this ROM thanks to the devs ) but ever since i installed this ROM my phone has been heating up to temperatures like 96 degrees Fahrenheit this kills my battery really fast, i just use basic apps like stock messaging app or apollo music player :'(
(today i unplugged my phone from the charger at around 7:25 AM and by 10:00 AM i was down to about 23% battery life) along with this sometimes my phone crashes ( i believe its from the heat) and i have to pull my battery pack out and reinsert it to boot up the phone.
I love this ROM but this is irritating me i cant get 5 hours out of my battery i already tried a new SIII battery and the same thing happened.
If someone could please help me or atleast guide me somewhere that would help me i would appreciate it i used to love listening to music on my way home but now i cant :/

try to reflash the rom with full wipe . if that doesnt work use another rom in the meantime. i would of said use another battery, but you stated the problem continued. i think its the rom
Sounds like something may be keeping the CPU at 100%. Let's see some stats?
Wouldn't go as far as the rom is the issue as the person using the rom (not a shot at you op) we need more details on what you did to install and what you came from and stuff. Might be your boot loader needs to be updated. Might be a kernel issue. Like I said can't immediately run and blame roms, even though its possible. The pacman rom is an CM10/AOSP/AOKP or a ported rom.
It is an excellent rom for developers and for those people who like to do a lot of experimentation with their phones.
What I would suggest is to flash a custom rom like "Wicked V10", "Darthstalker X2" or the "STOCKORAMA" V2 rom.
Any custom roms based on Samsung Touchwiz Jellybean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 would be a very excellent choice.
These custom roms are feature packed with themes, addons, mods and other extras. - Check em out!
Here are the links to those roms in case you decide to flash one of them.
STOCKORAMA | VERSION 2 | Aroma | Multi-Carrier | Multi-Window
WICKED™ v10 | AROMA | Rom Control | Full Customization
DARTHSTALKER ☆ | VERSION X2 | Aroma | Multi-Carrier | Customizable
Good luck!

Please stop posting that its only a good rom for developers... I used aosp type builds steady for 5 months except for when I worked in a certain job site and had to have WiFi calling, I restored right away as soon as possible. It might not be 100% stable but its good for a very very large community including some friends of mine who know close to nothing about phones or modding and devving. Those other ROMs are just opinion (not bad ones at all) and you aren't helping the op at all with his question that he asked.

I was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it! LOL
Let me see partial and kernel wakelocks.
Yea like the rest say the temp is no biggie but that 38x mhz slot shows an app constantly running. It's 50% of your on time.

I used to install and tweak a new ROM almost every other week on my OG Evo 4G. Since I got a Verizon Galaxy Note 2, I've just kept it to Nova Launcher as my only "hack". I was looking at rooting and trying out some ROMs but I was wondering what functionality I would lose if I go with non-Samsung based ROMs like MIUI or AOKP (or whatever the latest fashion is).
Pen?
Pen hover cursor?
Multi-app functionality?
Etc...
You would lose all the touchwiz apps such as snote, smart rotation and smart stayon, Hover scroll and info, annoying touchwiz sounds and notifications, FM radio app, the ugly tw ui, and the excellent battery life.
With custom Aosp roms you would get 70percent of the battery life compared to touchwiz Rom, additional and easy modifications to the UI, faster and more fluid overall performance. The hover icon of the Spen can be enabled but you wouldn't get the same feedback when hovering over items in screen, as for the radio app you'll need to install 3rd party app such as Spirit Radio. These are just the few stuff you would gain I suggest you try it out.

Awesome thanks. I hardly use any S-Apps so that's not a big deal. Also, I charge every night but get 2 days worth of charge so battery life is fine by me. My big thing is when I'm doing a quick remote desktop connection for my job, I like to use the S-Pen to better hit small buttons and links on the screen. As long as that functionality is there (I know it's dependent on the ROM developer/port) I'm good to go.

Almost every aosp rom I've tried has the hover feature built in. I would suggest you try out Carbon Rom as its very stable and packed with a lot of neat features.

Hi,
currently im running the stock 4.1.2 german Telekom Rom my N7105 came with because i thought it would last longer than the 4.4 nordic Rom i was using before, but with stock kernel and power savings mode i find it quite unusable (constantly lagging)
I have never used a non stock rom on my n7105 and quite frankly i am a bit lost.
Does anyone know a minimal rom (most Samsung apps removed, i only use S Note, a minimum of google apps, basically just the ones you need to run the play store) with a decent Battery Life? If there is no such rom which Stock KitKat Rom runs the smoothest?
From the looks of it DN3 would be way too bloated for me (if im mistaken please tell me) and as far as i can see the only alternative would be stock roms, all other seem to be based on cyanogenmod and co so there is no S-Pen functionality
also only Stock and Shift Kernel would be ok for me to use, because as much as i like the agni kernel i need to connect to a IPSec/PSK VPN which agni simply wont let me do. (or are there other kernels out there for the n7105?)

Slimkat is fully debloated ROM. Smooth on performance and battery life.

I thought slimkat is based on aosp and therefore lacks the s-pen functionality, im using my note exclusively with the s-pen (just not with the Samsung apps, except s-note)
Will the s-pen work in slimkat, for navigation, a note app (doesn't have to be s-note) and gmd s-pen control

You definitely want a TouchWiz-based ROM to get full benefits of the S Pen. Otherwise, it's just a cool-looking stylus that's sharper than a finger tip.
BUT, TouchWiz-based ROMs are filled with junk most of us will never use.
You can't have it both ways.
If you want full use of the S Pen, use the latest excellent DN3 and remove as many apps as possible to slim things down. That's what I'd do. I had the DN3 until the DN4 came out and it has excellent battery life.
Otherwise, Slimkat definitely sounds like a good lightweight choice.
I finally had some time yesterday and flashed Slimkat, will test it for a week or so and see how the battery holds up.
Yeah DN3 or complete Stock rom, which i would then debloat myself was plan b. (or better: still is plan b, depending on how much i like slimkat)
But i actually dont think i need more S-Pen Features than i have with SlimKat. Right now im trying Papyrus for Notes and GMD S-Pen Control for Gestures which is pretty much the same functionality i used before (well airview for information and scrolling would be neat too, are there any third party apps which enable this?)
I also like JusWrite (stylus edition) for quick note reminders, and SignEasy to sign documents. You can also try everything from MyScript.
I'm running SlimWiz. It's the best ROM with Note 3 S-Pen features and S5 stuff. The phone runs very very smooth.
