[JB]Rooting Acro S - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Soo i found out a really easy way to root my Acro S running .211 JB stock rom, it's as follows:
1. Download this kernel and flash it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2309117 (it has CWM and TWRP recoveries)
2. Boot into TWRP by tapping screen a few times when the purple led light is on
3. Then just choose "reboot" in TWRP and it'll ask you if you wish to install SU choose yes and there you go! =D

That's a method for Unlocked Bootloader only!

CWM is gone after Xperia IC pureness

Hi,
I install a new rom ( the xperia ice cream pureness ) and after I install it, the CWM is gone, I cannot access the way I did before... I think is because i wipe everything when I install this rom... but now I have my doubts about this, because when I install the CWM I was on GB... I dont want to use the same method that I use before because I dont know if is compatible with ICS... and I read about new ways to install CWM on ICS but all of them request the stock rom.... is there is a way to install or run CWM on ICS pureness rom ????
Hi there,
One thing you can try is to use a kernel that has CWM built into it.
The one I know that's stable and good battery life is called "ArcKnight v3.3 stock" - This is good if you don't want to mess around with overclocking and stuff like that.
Then when you boot, you press the "volume down" button when the led lights up for the 1st time.
So the CWM recovery is built into the kernel.
I think there is also a well supported kernel called "doom kernel". I have not tried it, but many suggest it in their posts.
hope things go well.
You are on locked bootloader right?
If answer is yes, CWM is installed on the ROM. That means that after flashing a new ROM, it was wiped.
If you are on unlocked bootlader, install a Kernel that has CWM installed in it and you will never lose it.
Best thing to do is to reinstall

Try downloading CMW Installer V5 from PvyParts.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840
The lastest x-parts did not work for me too but the V5 worked with no problem. Hope that helps.
There's also RecoverX for PC to install CWM on all devices on Gingerbread or ICS.

Warning is there so i don't have to deal with the bugs that arise from ppl with broken roms most of the time it will all be fine.
Try tapping the screen / volume buttons / power button (tapping) ect.

When the Sony Ericsson logo lited up, tap on the logo. I did that nowadays, when there's no blue led after installed cwm5.

[Q] Question about the following custom rom

Hi,
I am try to install the following custom rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448552
I also my phone rooted and flashed my firmware with the following method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
(Post 3)
Since the installation explanation of the custom rom not really wide, do I perform the following steps:
0. Charge Phone 100% (optional)
1. Flash Kernel for ICS ROMS (e.x. arcknight)
2. Boot to CWM
3. Factory Reset
4. & Storage-System Mounts--> Format
5. Advanced----> Wipe Battery Stats (optional)
6. Install Zip from sd card-Choose Zip from sd card >-------> Xperia Ice Bean 4. X
7. Reboot, wait for booting, than reboot again (optional)
Also snap I don't exactly what they mean with boot via recovery?
When I've done that, I remain a boot loop hang. Anyone have any idea what I should do? I'm quite a beginner so like in simple language.
Thank you!
Boot via recovery means reboot using cwm recovery,do you hav do a nandroid backup before you flash your Rom?if do,recover using cwm.if not, update via sony updater to fix it but Sony update will wipe all your thing like root permission etc

Hello.
My apologies I didn't know it was a theme.
But I would like to have the following combination.
Cyanogenmod 9 in combination with the theme, is that a good combination? Or can I do it better otherwise.
I have the following specs:
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S LT18i.
Android 4.1.B.0.587 Rooted.
I use SuperUser and X Parts.
I use now the normal Sony stock.
I use the following root method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957 thanks for the thinking!

The clue is in the thread title, if you miss those kinds of details you'll run into trouble real fast. That theme won't work with CM9 as it's designed for the stock ROM. Use Theme Chooser themes for CM ROMS.

[HOT UPDATE][ROOT .55][Locked/Unlocked Bootloader] - Xperia S / SL [NOOB FRIENDLY]

Hello Everyone,
This guide will tell you how to root and install CWM on .55 Firmware. This method 100% works ( I have tested it myself on locked bootloader ) As I did not find any guide to do this - just some posts, I am creating this guide. For now, THIS IS ONLY FOR XPERIA S LT26i & XPERIA SL LT26ii Just follow these steps and you should be good to go : -
FOR UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER, CHECK THE 2nd POST.
EDIT:- There seems to be a working one-click root tool for the .55 FW which can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204321
It is a much easier method to root
1. Irrespective of whichever rom/kernel you are on, just flash this ftf with flashtool -
For Xperia S - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857198
For Xperia SL - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxpuzJJjkttpNTdhT2MtdjQySkE/edit?pli=1
Check this guide if you don't know how to flash a ftf - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
2. Power On your phone and go to settings---> Developer's Options ---> Enable USB Debugging. Then go to settings---> Security---->Enable non-market applications.
3. Root your .45 phone with this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Just select normal root method and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Then check if you have SuperSu installed in the applications laucher. Then install CWM from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1939875
5. Before you reboot your device into CWM, download this pre-rooted .55 zip and copy this to the internal storage -
Xperia S LT26i - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005595
Xperia SL LT26ii - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159310
6. Power off your phone and then press then start the phone by holding the power menu. Once you see the SONY logo, press the volume up/down buttons, power button and keep touching the screen in the middle simultaneousy. ( I know it sounds a bit wierd:silly: )
7. Once you are in recovery, select wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition. Then go to advanced---> wipe dalvik cache. Then go to mounts & storage ----> format /system.
8. Then select the downloaded pre-rooted .55 zip in install zip from sd ( internal storage ). Wait until it finishes.
9. DO NOT REBOOT NOW! Hold the power and volume up button together for around 10s until you feel 3 vibrations consecutively. At this point, your phone WILL BE TURNED OFF.
10. Then download this ftf of .55 -
For Xperia S - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997030
For Xperia SL - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxpuzJJjkttpOHpyemVBdHRzNkU/edit?pli=1
11. In Flashtool, while selecting the .55 ftf just tick the box of EXCLUDE SYSTEM. Then start flashing the ftf on your powered off phone by connecting it directly into download mode.
12. Once the device boots, you will have a rooted .55 phone. Just re-install CWM just like in step 4 and you are ready.
Enjoy flashing custom roms for locked bootloader. Just remember that when /system is formatted, CWM is lost. Good luck.
Press the thanks button if this guide helped you.

Root with unlocked bootloader
As I have seen that many people even after unlocking their bootloader don't know how to root, I am writing this guide.
1. Make sure that you have unlocked your bootloader. You can do this by dialing *#*#7378423#*#*. It will open the service menu. Then go to Service info--->Configuration. Rooting status should say :- "Bootloader unlocked: Yes". If you don't know how to unlock your bootloader, just check this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
2. Power On your phone and go to settings---> Developer's Options ---> Enable USB Debugging. Then go to settings---> Security---->Enable non-market applications.
3. Flash the latest .55 FTF with Flashtool. If you are already on .55, just skip this step.
For Xperia S - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997030
For Xperia SL - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxpuzJJjkttpOHpyemVBdHRzNkU/edit?pli=1
Check this guide if you don't know how to flash a ftf - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
4. Download the attached Superuser.zip and copy it to your internal storage.
5. Then flash any custom kernel in fastboot mode. Here is a list of custom kernels - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950706
If you don't know how to flash a custom kernel, just follow this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963961
NOTE:- Flash a custom kernel which is meant only for stock ICS. For example :- Rayman's Elite, Krabpel's kernel etc.
6. Reboot into CWM by pressing the volume keys when you see the SONY logo. Choose install zip from sd card ( internal storage). Then choose Superuser.zip. Once installation is complete, just reboot.
7. Go to Settings--->Apps--->All and search for Superuser. Then clear Superuser's data and also force stop it.
8. Done! Enjoy your rooted phone. You are also now free to try any of the custom rom.
Just in case.

If you don't want to lose data, wipe only cache and dalvik cache and format /system. Then try installing the zip. If your phone does not work properly, it is better to wupe data too.

No no, I think that you are getting confused. First we root the phone with Bin4ry's method. At this point you will be on 6.1.A.2.45 stock ics which you just flashed with Flashtool. Then install CWM by following the steps here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1939875
Once you have installed CWM, download the pre-rooted zip from here and copy to your phone's storage - https://hotfile.com/dl/180118347/fd5551c/LT26i_6.1.A.2.55_SG_Stock.zip.html
Then reboot your device. When you see the SONY logo, keep tapping the screen, press the volume and power buttons, everything simultaneously. Then you will be in CWM. Do all the wipes and install zip from SD card (internal storage) and choose the pre-rooted zip. Once installation is done, you will have /system ( already rooted ) of .55 fw while everything else is of .45. So instead of booting into the system, we POWER OFF the device by PRESSING THE VOLUME AND POWER BUTTON FOR 5 seconds. Then follow the steps from step 10 and you will be good to go.

That's because when you format /system, CWM is lost. That's why the last step says to re-install CWM. Just install CWM as you did previously during the rooting procedure and you will be good to go.:good:

[Q] [ARC S] getting bootloop after successfull install of "ultimate hd 4.0"

hi
this is the first time i am trying to install a custom rom. after reading a lot i never tried to actualy modify my arc s, but today was the day!
i tried with this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920207
now i have some specific questions to find out why i am getting a bootloop (screen gets black and shows "SONY" over and over again).
right now i am on stock rom and kernel again: model: LT18i / android 4.0.4 / kernel 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1 / build 4.1.B.0.587
i followed the how-to in the thread in every step besides one: "For Locked Bootloaders: Root your phone using this tutorial, than install CWM using this app" i did not use the linked tutorial because at first i just wanted root and found this "one click" method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219711
this method worked for me and i already was able to use superuser. having a working superuser app i decided to go on with the tutorial and used x-parts to install CWM.
after that i did everything like in the how-to, going through the aroma installer, successfully installed the rom, reboot through the recovery menu -> bootloop.
after many hours and tries i decided to open a thread and hope that someone can help me to solve my problem.
thanks!
EDIT: about the bootloader. on my device it says "bootloader unlock allowed: yes" and the number that is mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375463 for me is 12W20
can i unlock the bootloader or not? i am realy confused with everything right now...

Yes, you can still unlock the bootloader, by using the official method at unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com.
thanks for your reply. in the roms thread it says that it can be installed with locked bootloader.
i have root and superuser works. next i used this: (imagine a link to google play x-parts :laugh to install cwm and then i continued with the how-to as it says:
...
Place ROM on SD-Card
Back up user apps and data. (Various apps available, search Google Play. This is a popular one)
Power off phone.
Boot to CWM (Keep pressing the Volume Down key after the Sony logo appears)
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Mounts and Storage --> Format /System
Advanced > Wipe Battery Stats
Install zip from SD card > Choose Xperia Ultimate HD
Follow on screen instructions on AROMA.
After Complete Installation untick "reboot" and select reboot in CWM
any idea why i get a bootloop after installing the rom? oh...and i still don't get it how to start my phone directly in cwm recovery. i tried to push or hold different buttons. right now i saw the recovery menu only because i chose to reboot to recovery in the x-parts app. sorry, if similar questions have been already asked, but i don't get it
EDIT: is the kernel and/or stock rom a problem maybe? can i install the custom rom starting from: model: LT18i / android 4.0.4 / kernel 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1 / build 4.1.B.0.587?
Did you flash this? I never tried install any kernel or ROM on locked bootloader, so my phone is unlocked. I read this tutorial and i succesfully installed this ROM on my ARC without bootloop. BTW i using LuPuS v16 kernel, not vengeance...

You can use the Flashtool Version 0.9.11.0 [Thanks to Androxyde :good:]
There are things in this application. Include: Root device, Bootloader Unlock, Flash kernel and Flash ROM.
By fastboot mode in Flashtool you can install any kernel and after turn on your device using CWM and install any ROM.
In here you can find many ROMs and Kernels [Thanks to Xerxin :good:]

yea i am sure.
trying {Arc/Arc S}[DEV][KitKat 4.4.4][CM11.0] LegacyXperia now.
their install process:
Requirements:
* Have the stock ICS 4.1.B.0.587 full ftf flashed (doesn't matter if you have flashed it in the past or if you flash it before installing cm11.0, it will work both ways)
* LT15i (Arc) users need to flash LT18i (Arc S) ftf
* MT15i (Neo) users need to flash MT11i (Neo V) ftf
Steps required for correct installation (order is important):
1: Flash boot.img in fastboot & reboot into recovery
1.1 (optional): If the device is not booting, reboot to bootloader again and run:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
2: Enter recovery, go to mounts and storage
3: Format /system, then /data and then /cache (Important step!)
4: Flash update zip
5: Flash gapps (recommended package is the one provided in the link below)
i have lt15i so need lt18i ftf. downloaded 4.1.B.0.587 for arc s and flashed. looks working now.
shutdown.
menu button+usb for fastboot mode(arc), blue led on.
Flashtool -> select kernel to flash (boot.img in cm-11-20140512-UNOFFICIAL-LegacyXperia-anzu.zip) -> (bootloader) Flash operation complete.
shutdown.
power up, legacyxperia logo then vol- button.
cwm opened.
formated system data cache...
install zip from sd card done.
booting..
finaly got welcome to cyanogen mode screen. (language select)
hardware keys working but touchscreen not working. stuck again.

Oh, you are misunderstood my question about the list.
My wife's Arc S (lt18i) is using LegancyXperia CM11 20140906 without any problem.
Here is my list of zips when I flash it. ( Only list the zip order )
1. LX CM11 ROM zip, currently 20140906
2. Micro-Modular package from PA-GApps, maybe Nano next flash.
3. Play Services / Play Games Update Module Module package from PA-Gapps too.
4. SuperSU flash zip from SuperSU official thread
If you still can't make it work, you may ask questions in LX CM11 thread, it's active and many discussions in it.
Hope you can make your li15i work again and enjoy CM11.

sorry no luck
i did some research on xda and google. normaly cm-10-20131006-NIGHTLY-anzu lastest offical was giving same touchscreen error.
replaced cy8ctma300_fwloader, touch_anzu_sony_type1.hex, touch_anzu_sony_type2.hex, touch_anzu_sharp_type1.hex, touch_anzu_sharp_type2.hex with original ics ones.
added cy8ctma300_fwloader -dev /sys/devices/platform/spi_qsd.0/spi0.0 -no_condition line to hw_config.sh suggested here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46672028&postcount=23
cm-10-20131006-NIGHTLY-anzu working now :good:
but this isnt fixed cm-11-20140906-UNOFFICIAL-LegacyXperia-anzu.
