PLEASE help me i spent 6 hours trying to figure this out last night. I'm trying to figure out which .kl file in /system/usr/keylayout control's media keys (play/pause) (next) (previous) so i can remove the wake function from them and make my screen stay off when i use a bluetooth headset.
ANY HELP WOULD BE AWESOME
what i know... the device output from keytest when pushing the buttons.
the button numbers are 163, 165 for next and previous and 200 and 201 for play/pause (keycodes)
deviceid=15
source =0x101
action =ACTION_DOWN
keycode=MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE (and next previous etc)
scancode = 201 (for play pause #2)
you can substitute in but the main problem is i can't identify the file that controls these fuctions.
the guide to keylayout files is here: http://source.android.com/tech/input/key-layout-files.html
i tried some fuctions i found in google searches and i was only able to get a list of 13-14 deviceid's and 15 is always missing so i can't figure out how to identify it.
plz help ty.
most devices use a file h2w_headset.kl or sec_key.kl but neither has desired effect on p935 (telus p930)
i also have checked stock roms for telus, atnt and bell and they have differant keypad files for each.
i_atnt-keypad
i_bell-keypad
j_jts-keypad (telus)
i am running a atnt rom, i tried editing the atnt file, that didn't work, so i added the telus file too, that didn't work. is this possible to fix or do i have to get a stock telus rom to fix it?
my phone is p935 telus but some of the internals say p930
OK so the ONLY way i can find without having a developer write a flashable zip that modifies policies etc to disable the media keys from waking up the device on a car bluetooth stereo (because it kills the battery hard if every time you skip a track (which you do from car controls while phone is in pocket) the screen comes on for 30 seconds) so the only way to avoid it is quite simple, make either a pattern, face, or password lock. for some reason the dev's think that swipe unlock and no patter or swipe means you want your screen to turn on every time you change a song from a headset control, it makes 0 sense but whatever, atleast i found a workaround, i don't mind pattern unlock it takes 1/3 of a second if its a simple pattern, and it prevents my screen from coming on 10-15 times a day for no reason except to waste battery etc.
This is partially solved unless someone comes up with a way to disable media keys without having to have a lockscreen that has a password (private message me plz i'll be very happy)

Hello everyone
After trying all the phone lock software out there I still can’t find what I’m looking for, what I’m looking for is so simple an icon in the start menu to lock the phone then r2u or t2u & unlock when phone rings and that’s it. I don’t like the idea of having to press the power button to wake up the screen to be able to unlock the device I’m also not interested in all of the other features that most of the phone lock’s have. Can someone help?
I have tried sensor lock I did like it a lot but I was unable to configure it and you could tell it was running in the background as the screen would jump. Plus throw in my case and a few beers and I know I’m going to drop it.
Many Thanks Jez
A list of phone lock programs you will need to search for them as some of the links aren’t applicable any more and I did need not save the ones that are working
Throttle lock
S2u2
Sunscape
Touchlock pro
Phone buddy
M lock
Organic lock
Pocket shield
Sensor lock
Lock me tight
Stylus lock
try Auto Lock (CSDEVCTRL), you could slide to the right on the screen to unlock the phone or use the windows default unlock.
Hello gbjack
Just tried that app and it’s just to much setting up and I don't think it’s going to do what I want it to do. Just hope someone is willing to write a program going by all the forums I have searched it will be popular
Cheer’s for the reply and suggestion
I tried many lock apps as well, but in the end the standard windows lock is what im using. No hassle, and it simply works as intended. I just press the "hangup" virtual button, and after the second vibration feedback i can be sure that the phone is locked. Doesn't get any simpler than that.
Then you have to try " WWE-Chobit Company SmartLock 1.7B". Only four or five options but it cannot lock your hardware key during call.

Then you have to try " WWE-Chobit Company SmartLock 1.7B". Only eight very simple options but it cannot lock your hardware key during call.

Just tried that app and it’s not even showing in programs for me to set it up, so I will have to keep looking, it amazes me that no one has written a program like I’m after considering it’s so simple.

This is good specialy the turn on bluetooth on call feature, but when we have an income call, the app takes ages to know what to do and the phone only begins to ring 5 secs after. Lockmelite it's the best one around but has a problem with alarms going to background after unlock. The "almost perfect" one is s2u but huge memory consuption makes background app's close or restart.
Hello jpl69
Tried this app found it to involved to setup and still does not do what I am looking for which is tap the screen to wake up so I than can unlock the phone using a s2u app. I find it bizarre that there are many apps to unlock the phone but you still have to push the power button to operate them. Surely it can’t take much program writing to add this feature. Jez
We have to push an hardware ley to wake up our devices from a low battery consuption state (suspend mode) and unfortunaly only have the power and volume hard keys so if you want to wake up your device with a tap on screen you'll only have a couple of hours with a full charge.
Now it makes sense why the screen sleeps if the battery only last for a couple of hours. Just a shame that the power button is so fiddly to operate. Jez
Yes, and it makes no sense having an device lock app (except on incoming calls). I only use it because of my 2 year old son that found the little tiny power on key , and made a couple of phone calls.
P.S. with a registry tweak you can enable the volume keys to wake up your device.
May be this could be your appropriate application:

That is brilliant and can be found here.
Simple and effective (needs a reboot after install, and is found under settings.
Just to be helpful... here's the brilliantly useful Reg tweak to allow wake-up from the volume keys.
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd
- set key: defaultkeylock from 1 to 0
- softreset
LockMeLite is definitely my favourite (especially with the above tweak), but as mentioned already, the alarm snooze / disappearing to background problem is a constant frustration.
Hello flid
Sorry for the delay everyone just got back from Canada so been busy catching up and sleeping. So how do I go about tweaking the reg key? I know how navigate to the reg key on a computer but not on my mobile
I changed my left soft key to lock the phone on the Home start screen as it was doing nothing useful except jumping to a phone operators website:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKPath = windows\Endkey.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeLSKText = Lock (or whether text you want).
You just need a windows mobile registry editor. There are several free ones. My current Dutty ROM has one inbuilt, but from what I can gather the popular options are Total Commander (free!), Schap's Registry (free), PHM RegEdit (which is built in to Dutty's ROM) and Resco Registry Editor (not free - but definitely the most finger friendly). There may well be others.
I have a TP2 from Telus, with the original ROM and no programs installed.
When I press the power button, I must hit [Unlock] at left on the lower bottom of the screen, after the screen turn gray, and I have the message [Tap "Unlock" or press "*"]. Then I press the button [Unlock] just under the message. And just after that, I'm able to use the device.
My question is :
How could I remove this? When I press the power Button, I don't want to do this to have access to my device.
btw : The [Lock] option in [Settings -> Lock] is not anabled.
Thanks for help.
I dont know why it automatically locks it but the same effect can be achieved when you hold the call end button and select lock device from the quick list.
I'm considering getting a TP2 from Telus as well... I've heard there's no GPS in the Telus version. Can you confirm that?
Or if there's no GPS available in software, is the hardware still there, but just locked down?
(Sorry about not being able to answer your question, but it seems annoying to have to hit unlock like this... I'm interested in a solution too)
You have a GPS with the Telus version, I confirm. I installed Google Map, and it's working.
Place to improvement, but working : Don't work in my home, but outside, no problem.
Not the solution, but you will find a good workaround there :
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=77600
Another workaround discussed elsewhere: either slide the phone open, or remove the stylus. Either method wakes up the device without having to go through the unlock dance, and wakes up to wherever you left off.
Hope this helps.
I've got a suggestion but not sure if it'll work. Install the Advanced Config tool. See if the option is there to disable autolock. It's not there on my TP2 but it was available on my Touch Dual and my Touch Diamond.
By the way, it's funny but you should consider yourself lucky. So many users (myself included) are looking for ways to autolock the device natively.
Advantage of autolock: You won't have accidental screen presses when the device wakes up in your pocket without you knowing (eg, when the phone rings but you missed the call).
hehehe...
thats good, i am also looking for a solution to enable autolock,
(no 3rd apps.)
i compare the current registry with other devices,
maybe there is something

GPS working in GSM mode?
Hello hadez
quick question on GPS.
The Telus TP2 is a worldphone which can be switched to GSM for Europe as example.
Is the GPS chip available in GSM mode too?
Means if you switch to GSM, does googlemaps find a GPS chip?
All worldphones I used in the past the GPS did only work in CDMA mode.
I would like to have a worldphone which can navigate me in the rest of world not at home where I know the way.
Regards
highc

There is a reg tweak that makes this go away:
in registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd
set:

Hey there,
while I'm still getting used to my first smartphone, I am surprised not to find some standard features that even my old benq siemens delivered:
-for security issues i'd like to limit my phone to only use the current sim card - is that possible? currently, it also has no pin code, only the one of the sim - where could I set the pin code for the phone itself?
-is there a chance to adjust the vibration of the phone? I hate ringtones, my phones are nearly always on vibration, but the desire one is almost not recognizeable. I am wearing the screen side towards the body to protect it from breakage, so it is even weaker than normaly...
there was more, I just can't think about it by now - i'll keep adding
thx so far!
and i could use a longer tone for the kalendar reminder - maybe one that just stops when a button is pressed instead of this second long tone - is there a chance?
and how about the other options i'm missing...am I blind or is this little wonder missing the simplest things?
thx
nobody an idea?
If your phone is running Froyo (Android 2.2), you can have a pin lock when you unlock the screen: go to /settings/security/set up screen lock/PIN.
yeah, i know, but seriously - who wants to endure that each time he unlocks the screen?
Can't believe that there is no way to simply have a pin assigned to the phone as well as to the sim...
You only have to set up the PIN once. You'll just have to slide down and enter the code afterwards.
Or get a Nokia 3310!
Hey, I just noticed that when I disable the slide unlock (so there's no lock screen) the stock headset wakes the screen up. As I listen to music, every time I change the music, the screen wakes up. Any way to disable that? Thanks a lot

Hey I was experiencing the same problem with a ROM on the Sensation XE. It might be the same problem for you ROM. Here is my original post:

I dont know what the Xperia Arc keylayout files look like but you should be able to modify them to prevent this from happening. If the files are the same, my fix might work (its not intended for your phone, check the file, make backup and the usual Im not responsible pishposh).... Check out this link to see the policy flags you can use in a .kl if you wish to modify the keylayout file yourself.

Keylayout files are located in /system/usr/keylayout
Howdy Folks,
I may have ran into a show stopper on the Samsung Galaxy S3 from Telus. I need to have a PIN on my phone or some locking mechanism that is secured, swipe doesn't cut it, as I have working documents and phone numbers that I don't want easily accessed. I have a blueant S3 and a Motorola 505 hands free bluetooth device that work great when the phone is unlocked. However, S Voice doesn't appear to work when the phone is locked. When I try to place a call, I can see the phone light up, and have confirmed that S Voice is initiated, however, it does not accept the voice command. I have checked my call settings and the make outgoing calls when locked is checked. It works when swipe is engage, however, this is not an option for me.
Something I have found is that if I initiate the call with the hands free unit, click emergency call on the phone, click the return button from the emergency call, S Voice will start up. Sometime's it'll make the call, sometimes it won't.
Are there some settings that I'm missing?
Does anyone have a solution?
I sure hope so, otherwise, I will have to return the phone.
TIA for your responses.
Thanks,
Greg
I found a solution. I installed Tasker and Secure Settings. In Tasker, I create a profile for when a bluetooth connection is made to my handsfee unit. I then created a task that disables my PIN. I also created a profile that re-enables my PIN when the bluetooth connection is lost.
After a month of searching, I finally found a solution. I still say that Samsung has this screwed up and I'm very disappointed that I even had to install third party software to make something work.

This has been a problem for me also. I don't want to leave my phone unlocked all the time. Are those two separate programs?

They are two seperate apps within play store. Secure Settings is a plugin for Tasker, so you access it through it. Here's more detail on how to set it up:
Profile->Bluetooth Connected
Task->PlugIn->Secure Settings->Password/Pin->Disabled
I then added an Exit Task
Task->Plugin0>Secure Settings->Password/Pin->Enabled (Set to my old
PIN number)
Perfect! I definitely wouldn't have figured this one out without your help. I'll test it out tomorrow and see how well it works.
Couldn't get it to work with Samsung S4
Great suggestion on using Tasker, but unfortunately, I could make it work with my Galaxy S4. I successfully created the macro in Tasker and could get the lock on the lock screen to disable, but I could not get the phone to turn off the lock screen altogether (I'm running 4.2.2 unrooted). Couldn't find the ability in Tasker with Secure Settings to altogether turn off the lock screen (not just clear the lock). My phone is set to allow dialing from an accessory with the screen locked, but the phone isn't following that. If I have any lock screen (even with no lock set), bluetooth won't complete the call until the lock screen is cleared (even if it only requires a swipe). After not succeeding with this, I also tried to use Tasker to activate a couple unlock apps from the Google Play store, but those too had no capability to altogether disable the lockscreen so that the power button takes you directly to the home screen. Further research revealed an app called BtWiLocker that is designed to unlock the phone and clear the lockscreen when BT or WiFi are connected and relock when done. I've used that for a day so far, and it seems to be working OK after playing with it a little to get the settings correct.
I got it to clear the password when a BT connection was made, and reset the pin passcode when the BT connection ended.
The key thing is to create another profile for the BT connection when not connected. This can be done by checking off the "inverted" check box.
Initially, I only got 1/2 of it to work where it will clear, but if the device sleeps it will be locked again.
