Snote app refresh issue on Note 8 - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

anyone else have a refresh issue with the Snote app on the note 8?
i have recently bought the note 8 to add to my note 2 and 10 (yes i think it is ridiculous that i have the 3)
all my devices have the notes synced but only the note 8 refreshes for about a minute each time i open the snote app
i haven't had an issue like that with my 2 and 10 and i must say it is getting on my nerve specially that i''m use to quick note accessing for work and drawing
please share with us your feedback on this issue and will keep you posted if i get it solved.

Issue update
it stopped the refresh lag on it's own
don't know how, but all systems go and enjoying the experience so far.
i did receive an email from Samsung support telling me that they didn't notice any similar issues with any of the other devices.
they also suggest to force stop the program and clear cash (but do make sure u have a backup or all ur notes are synced on the cloud)
I do have a considerable number of notes synced on note 2 and note 10 so maybe note 8 was just getting use to having a lot of your notes being synced over multiple devices
if you noticed the same issue, please share and keep us all posted

the issue is back

it was solved for a bit over 2 months maybe after i went to google drive and unautharized the s note app from the list of options.
now it's back and driving me crazy...
are you still facing the same?
i think it might be related to the samsung account s note sync only for the note 8 as my other device is ok
i've noticed that the s note app on the 8 has different Sync options in the menu list

I have a same issue, very annoying...
Every time i reopen s note, or return from editing mode,
it refreshes for about 10 seconds.
I removed Samsung account, and disabled s note app in Google drive,
but nothing seems to be helping.
Please update if a solution found..

my solution
ok, maybe this will help someone:
what i did was
1. clearing cash of 2 s note apps in app manager
2. uninstall google drive app
3. copy all files from s note folder in file manager to some other folder (backup)
4. delete all files from s note folder
5. run s note app, and import backed up files
6. install google drive app back
s note opens very fast,
no refreshing anymore.

Hey there...
It is the same solution i have although i didn't have to make a copy or delete the google drive folder. you can depend on your samsung account backup for that
i'll write this for others visiting here with the same issue
clearing both S note apps of cache from the app manager is a must after disabling the google drive snote app (on google drive) as mentioned on previous posts in this thread
once you do this the Snote folder will be empty, so by restarting the device it gets your files back from the Samsung sync
the image icon on each note will appear in good time so don't worry it's not lost
you should avoid going to Snote settings and choosing to sync with google...your samsung sync is enough
This issue might happen again after a while (it reoccured with me after more than 2 months and drove me crazy) so you will have to go through the same steps again
other samsung note models (note 2 and 10) have different sync options than the 8 where u have the option to sync with google based on your demand rather than automatic...and if automatic it happens passively in the background when ur not accessing ur Snote...problem with the 8 is that this doesn't happen in the background so it checks ur google folders every time you access Snote
my guess is that the lag happens when the snote app requests from the google server an update on the spot (samsung app talking to google app only when you open the snote rather than before or after you are done)
I hope they address this issue in their next software updates.

[Q] "An update is required to access Samsung services"

Keep getting a popup warning every morning when we turn on our Note 8.0 then start the wi-fi that says: "An update is required to access Samsung services". So far we've answered "No" each time the warning is displayed until I find out what they want to update and just how much extra data will be deposited onto the tab if we allow it.
Yeah...I'm paranoid but the fact is, we don't use any Samsung services. I'd really like to turn the Samsung account OFF if that's a safe thing to do.
What do you say Note 8.0/Android community? Should I allow the update or would turning off the Samsung account stop the update notices???
EnzoS
I believe you can turn off the account, as a fact I have mine turned off and whenever I re-flash a new Rom either Stock or Custom I always say No to the Samsung account, but you can remove/delete your Samsung account by going here https://account.samsung.com/membership/service/getServieInfoList.do sign in, profile, remove account.
On your tablet it will still show Samsung account and you will notice that it cannot sync "sync error" when you click that it will try to sync and will fail, after that the Samsung account will be gone or if you do see "remove account" just remove it with that.
I will include a picture of the services that will be stopped.
Hoping this helps

Another U break it by disabling it thread... I see this all the time with peeps disabling features in MS Windows.
I use Samsung account to get the latest Samsung updates. Without your updates, your link, OS update, and most of all Miracast sync will not properly function. As there are bug fixes and added features.
I even have Google play store setup to be automated with updates as well. It is the only way to track the 200 or so downloaded apps being fixed and what not. Still waiting for 100% compatibility for Android 4.4.x... which may never be. HA!
Though I use dummy a google email account that are setup with features disabled. Google has buried a lot of user settings, but at least you have them to disable.
@gooberdude you telling us that if you don't setup the Samsung account you will NOT get an OS update? I find that strange cause as I said before I never set it up and still was getting my OS updates when I checked for updates, now of course after I Root the device with either CF-root or "the always mentioned by you" Saferoot, it will say that my device is modified and that there are no updates available.
I really don't see the point of a Samsung account and feel that Samsung is wasting resources/battery with constant syncing in trying to duplicate stuff (calendar, email, app store, etc) by putting an additional and IMHO unnecessary layer into the OS that Google already does.

I use saferoot and it does not show device is modified, because it is not flashed. Many root options require flashing, saferoot does not. So the flag is left alone.
Now for Samsung apps, you must have an account to use half of them. So if you are not using any Samsung apps, then don't bother with making an account.
I think you can still use the Samsung voice commander without an account... as it is at least 2x faster than Google and works just the same.
Its all up to you on what you want to do for getting updates. For me I get 3% battery drain every 12 hours when in sleep mode with WIFI enabled. Including having updates and email active. That is too small to think about disabling accounts or turning off sync and updates.
It seems too many Android peeps tweak things so much that they are paranoid by not doing enough. I am a minimalist. I do what I can with what I got, and find what is the issue before modifying, adding or removing stuff. I have found that Samsung and Google can interact well with each other to make operation of the tablet quick and stable. Though, Google needs to work more on getting things right with voice search and media player.
At least Samsung has addressed and fixed many wee issues with proper updates since January and March. Just waiting for 4.4.x to be released so I have that available when I want to upgrade.
@gooberdude don't hear me wrong, I am completely with you as far as the paranoia goes, I myself am a firm believer of Stock Rom with minimal tweaks, when it comes to updates I always check manually, I use the tablet mostly for reading my ebooks and occasional web browsing, email and getting good battery life, right now I'm at 2 days and 6 hours with 32% left, of course I enable my wifi when I need it.
I actually did send you a PM a few days ago asking about safe-root, don't know if you have seen or gotten that or not, I would like to start using safe-root to it full potential

Thanks guys for the comments and recommendations but perhaps I didn't make myself totally clear in the initial posting. I'd simply like to know if I can avoid being bothered to update my account or apps or whatever by turning off the Samsung account on the tablet. I don't have to (nor do I want to) delete the Samsung account entirely. I just want to take it off the tablet (turn it off/disable it) with hopes that the popups warning me that "An update is required to access Samsung services" will go away.
As I stated earlier, we don't use any Samsung services and don't even download any apps from the Samsung apps store. As Harjan112 said: "...Samsung is wasting resources/battery with constant syncing in trying to duplicate stuff (calendar, email, app store, etc) by putting an additional and IMHO unnecessary layer into the OS that Google already does." We also are quite minimalistic and are very happy to run the tab with as little as possible running in the background and only update what we use if absolutely necessary.
Your comments in this regard will be appreciated.
EnzoS
You can remove the account from the tablet without deleting it entirely.
Go to your settings... Accounts... Click Samsung account then on the right side of the screen you will see Accounts with your email address click that, then in the top right corner you should see remove account.
This also should stop the update notice.
Hoping this helps

Harjan112...thank you very much for the detailed information. I needed to be assured that removing the Samsung account from the Note 8.0 was the right way to go and your explanation seems to be right on the money. The tab is my wife's and I don't think she would appreciate it too much if I decided to root the thing and experiment on it in any way (ha).
Now if I could only get an answer to my other problem: the Gallery's data file bloating itself for no apparent reason every time the tab is turned on or rebooted. It's pretty strange that (so far) 118 people have viewed the posting but not one reply...not even a foolish recommendation (ha).
Thank you again. I will definitely give it a try now.

Thank you for your interest in my "other" problem. I did indeed post my question in the Galaxy Note 8.0 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting thread as: "GN8 Gallery data eating up drive space" back on the 1st of March. I thought I was fairly clear on the description and I would appreciate it if you would check it out. I'd be more than happy if you had questions for me as I'm baffled by what's happening. Please read my post.
Best regards,

Ah, well we did not follow your past question... I found with my antivirus app, that I get over 350MB of cached images just with my mp3 ID3 tags having album art.
I found that if you install Xposed framework and add the Wanam Xposed module, you have he ability to disable caching of images. Since disabling, I get zero cache. As for clearing the cache, you will either add a cleaner app or replace your antivirus with one that has built in added utilities.
Though one thing about disabling cache, you will notice slower image redraws with any images that are stored on slow SD cards. I have 633x UHS-1 SD card installed, and do not find images having issues with delayed image redraws from SD.
Hope this helps.

Can't Copy & Paste into Facebook Messenger when "Popped Out"

This is probably a marshmallow thing as I think my N5 did it too when I upgraded to 6.0, but does anyone have a solution, my google fu shows nothing. Tried with both swiftkey and google keyboard. I can long press messages to copy them, but in the text field I can't paste anything, or copy anything I may have written. I send links to my friends and this has been especially annoying when i have to hit two buttons then open in messenger to paste something.
If I remember correctly Lollipop didn't allow this either. I am thinking it's either a 'hijack protection' feature of Android 5.0+, or a bug in Messanger.
I'm 100% certain it worked fine up until 6.0. I believe it has to do with the new security setting of Draw Over Other Apps. For a while all pictures I clicked on in Messenger would open behind the chat window and I couldn't view them either, so it's fairly likely it is a problem on facebooks side. I was just curious why I couldnt find any threads addressing this.
Everytime I try to copy when I am in facebook Messenger it crashes, but I can paste just fine. It's just when I'm copying things.
Using an older, up to date LG Nexus 5 and alao unable to long press in FB messenger.
Having the same issue on the 6P. Can definitely tell something is happening behind the window. Overlay issue. Hate this. Because these overlays are messing up other permissions. Can't activate the microphone on Amazon for search because of overlays? Hate this! Have to open up the app ( as mentioned earlier) to copy and paste. Very time consuming.
I'm guessing no one found a solution to this issue? Same problem here, can't copy/paste and images or videos open behind the chat when using a chat head.
Same problem here after upgrading to marshmallow... Previously in lollipop I can easily do that. Also I no longer can swipe away and hide incoming call head up....
If you use the messenger app without chat heads, copy/paste workshop fine.

Exactly the same issue for me, it's a constant issue with very brief stints where pictures load as they should, any known fix for 6p?
was this ever fixed? Still have the issue on Nexus 5X 6.0.1
Started happening on my Note 5 yesteday but before it worked. Drives me insane as I lived in South America so I use translator a lot with some friends on certain things
Happens intermittently on my Nexus 6P on 6.0.1. Really gets on my nerves but good shout to the previous poster who mentioned opening the Messenger app directly, not the Chat Heads. Copying and pasting works fine that way.

If you turn off Chat Heads, you get the long press feature back. At least I do on my Samsung Galaxy S6 running Marshmallow 6.0.0.
You can, if you really want, turn it off, copy/paste, turn it back on.
Hope that helps!
Solved
I found 2 solutions on Samsung:
1. Using Messenger app ( not use chat head ), all androids can be paid.
2. On Samsung: using Clipboard in keyboard settings menu.
Solved
I run an HTC 10 but I have the same problem on all my phones running Marshmallow (HTC One M8, M9, M9+ and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium).
Sorted it by going into Settings/Apps/Messenger/Permissions then enabling Storage, location camera & SMS via the switches. I've found that enabling the storage permission usually solves it. It seems to be 'a marshmallow thing' and I've literally gone through all my apps & enabled them.

I've not been able to back up my S7 since I've had it (about 5 months now) - after researching this online over the past few months it seems to be an issue at Samsung's end (or whoever the provider of the cloud is!), there's a lot of people with this issue. I got hold of someone a week ago to ask what I could do and they advised downloading Smart Switch and using the backup feature on there but my work laptop won't allow me to install without authorisation.
I tried to press the customer services for a reason for the issue but they are giving little away, I had to ask a few times if it was a problem at their end before he said it was and they were looking in to it with no idea of when it will be resolved.
I've resorted to saving my contacts to my google account which backs-up in real time, and saving my photo's and documents to a memory card in case the worst happens before they can resolve the issues. There's also a sync function with Google which also backs-up alarms and calendar etc also.

Custom SMS Tone for Contact Groups?

I know the answer to this isn't Note 7-specific, but since the problem is on that device this made the most sense. Just bought a Note 7, coming fresh from an old Note 3 with Android 5, and I've noticed a startling number of features have been removed. Most I can live without, but one that's bothering me is that I can't set a custom SMS tone for contact groups. Ringtone yes, but not message alert like I could with Android 5.
Is there a way to do this that I'm just somehow missing or did they actually remove this from the OS?
EDIT: also, unlike Android 5, I can't set a custom alert sound in Facebook Messenger using one of my own MP3s, since the app doesn't seem to see them (just the stock Android sounds). I've tried moving them from my phone to the SD card and back again, to no avail; every other app can seem to read them just fine, but not this one. The same app version on the Note 3 (which was not rooted mind you) had no problems, and near as I can figure everything is installed correctly. Any suggestions?
Try to create "notifications" and "ringtones" folder on the root of your internal memory (not your SD card) and put all of your corresponding MP3 in it. Now you will see them. Hope it can help.

Tried that...as I said, every other app besides Facebook Messenger sees them. No matter where I store them, the only thing that Messenger sees is the stock Android sounds. It does list my default notification sound, though--which is one of my custom tones--but when I tap that it doesn't play it. It's almost like Messenger doesn't have permissions on the actual Notifications folder, but I don't know how to give them without rooting.

Note10+ move from Samsung Cloud to Onedrive -> server fault

All,
Today I received the firmware update for my Note10+ that contains the OneDrive integration. As I already have an Office365 subscription with 1Tb storage in OneDrive, I wanted to move there for backup. However, when I go through the Microsoft account linking part (enter Microsoft account, password, security code, password again), the app returns to the initial welcome screen with a message: server fault, please try again later.
Anyone else who has this error, or were you able to link the Samsung Cloud to Onedrive yet?
I have the exact same problem
i got the beta UI today and i was able to log in on first try. unlocked 10+ . already had onedrive. i use the microsoft authenticator and i had no issues .
Anyone with this problem fixed it yet? @Kruxarn, @marctronixx, any of you use 2 step verification on your Microsoft account?

Yes, i use two-step verification with my Microsoft Account.
I can try without two-step verification and report back.

Thanks for your feedback! I will try soon, as I have reported the issue with Samsung as well. I'll wait for their response before disabling/re-enabling the 2 factor auth.

Seriously, what a disaster... Here my journey with the Samsung Support team...
- I initially made a call explaining the problem. The support agent told me that the integration is not active yet. I explained that a specific extra firmware was released in the Netherlands, explicitly reporting this feature in the release notes, so it would really surprise me if it was not available. The support agent then told me that the tech person was unavailable, but that they would call me back, the same day.
- I never received the call back, so I logged a question via Samsung Members. I got a response on that, telling me I had to send a screenshot and a log file (after enabling high level debug logging) on help.content.samsung.com
- I made a screenshot, but the log that was mentioned in a standard log enable procedure was not present on my phone, so I sent them again a clear description of the error, with a screenshot of the error, and a screenshot of the logs that were present, together with the question which of the logs shown they would need.
- This request was immediately answered that the samsung tech dept was going to look into it.
- Then I received an answer on the support site, telling me I had sent an invalid log file, and attached was the same procedure which was incorrect. I then looked for the 'reply' button. But wait.... THAT IS NOT PRESENT! You can only pose one question on which you receive an answer, but a customer is not able to reply to the thread again. No case numbers, whatever, to reference the question.
- So I called the support desk again, referring to the question on the support site. The response of the agent: "Unfortunately we can't see that, can you explain your problem please?" I then told her that Samsung first promised to call me back, which they didn't, and I told them that my problem description with the question about which logs to be sent, was not read at all (trust me, I am a tech guy, I know all about problem descriptions and logs) and I received a default reply instead. The support agent responded, "but we are not allowed to call back". After a few more words, she told me, "please hold on", and I thought I was put on hold.
- BUT NO! The agent actually put me back in the queue, as she probably did not want to talk to me anymore! So I ended up with another support agent, who I had to explain the problem again from start. I was again told that the tech person was not available. I asked if he could call me back when he was, but again it was confirmed that Samsung support is not allowed to call customers... Like WTF... They can't call back people who bought their most expensive flagship phones?? The support agent then advised me to call the Account department. I asked if she could transfer me, but of course, she could not.
- So I called the Account department. I AGAIN eplained the problem, and the Account guy told me that that made sense, as the Onedrive service is not available in Europe yet. I again explained that Samsung explicitly released a separate additional firmware update with this feature in the release notes. He told me that he would email me some information and when I have received the information, I could call back and I would directly speak to the person who knew all about it.
- At this point I was so pissed by how this went, I disabled the two-step authentication on my Microsoft account, and I could indeed connect to Onedrive!!! The only problem now is that the Settings give an error when backed up.
- But I decided to give them one more call to see how they would respond. And I indeed got the person on the line who her colleague referred to earlier. She told me she had sent me an email telling me what log to send. When I asked her the time and date of that email, she mentioned a time which was half an hour before I even created the request. As I own the email server on which the email should be delivered, I could check the logs there, and no email was received at that moment. She did mention the name of the log file though. However, a log file I have, that mostly resembles what was requested, was in a Gear folder and contains mainly logging about the Gear services. At this moment I told her that the problem was fixed by temporarily disabling the two step verification on the Microsoft account, and I asked her if the service was indeed unavailable in Europe, as her colleague told me. She told me that the service should be available.
Conclusion:
On all ways of contacting Samsung, there is no way in responding on a reply, whether it is in Samsung Members, on the support site, or via email. One answer from Samsung should apparently be enough, and Samsung actually does not want to talk to customers (as one of the agents just transferred me away). The support staff tells me there is no way to get in direct touch with the tech staff. There are no procedures for complaints, they are not allowed to call back customers...
When you look at how Samsung exposes their support (via Samsung Members, Facebook Chat, phone, etc.) it looks as they go the extra mile for their customers, but when you actually talk to them, you end up in a non-flexible inefficient non-motivated support maze....Way to go, for flagship fans....
Ok... I'm a little more calm now...
My apologies for my rant....
please, who migrated samsung cloud to onedrive could confirm if the files appear on windows 10 PC in the default system folders or backups appear in another specific folder? I have Xbox shared with a friend and I don't want him seeing my cellphone stuff on his Xbox ... Can the vault be set up to save things on it?

I got OneDrive connected (I did not want to say 'working'), but I can't find any backup related items in the standard OneDrive folders, except that the Gallery sync can go there (but only from internal memory, not from SD card). The only thing I notice is that when going to the Samsung Cloud settings page, various links go to the OneDrive app instead of Samsung folders.

Exactly, my sync was not working, I removed everything and redo the sync and returned to normal, really only appears in windows the gallery photo folder, the other things that backs up (files) does not appear, anyway I stopped sharing My Microsoft account with a friend on Xbox, I didn't want him seeing my photos and videos on his console.
I disabled this option and just went back to old fashioned Onedrive with camera upload.
Since 2011 I have had all my photos automatically backed up to the Camera Roll folder but with Samsung integration it puts photos in Samsung Gallery folder and no option to change that I can see.
I want to continue with my photos in the same Camera Roll folder and not have them go somewhere else and have to manually move them.

Does it use an app folder or need full access to the entire OneDrive account?
OneDrive for Business
I have an Office 365 account which includes 1 TB of storage in OneDrive. When I try to enble "link Samsung Account with Microsoft account" within the Samsung cloud app, and enter my Microsoft username/email its says no such account exists. I had this problem using the OneDrive app on my Windows 10 desktop computer as well, but I solved that by deleting the OneDrive app that comes pre-installed on Windows 10 and installing the OneDrive for Business app. I could then sign in and backup to OneDrive on my desktop computer. Now on the phone, I have no problem signing into my account with the actual OneDrive app that came pre-installed on the Note 10+. That app lets me enter my Office 365 account username/email and on the OneDrive app, but not on this linking page for Samsung cloud. Any ideas on a workaround would be appreciated.

All,
Today I received the firmware update for my Note10+ that contains the OneDrive integration.

I finally managed to get the connection working. It turned out that you can only connect using Microsoft's own Authenticator app. Using auth codes from third party apps give problems.
However, I ran into another issue. It turns out that the gallery sync to OneDrive does not support files > 1Gb. I had some video's I recorded, and they did not get synced. Samsung's response was: upload them manually to the OneDrive folder and they show up in the Gallery. But come on...
Hi to all. I am trying to connect Samsung cloud with one drive on my Samsung Galaxy S10e. The problem is that I have enabled two factor authentication on my Microsoft account and when I am doing all the steps the app keeps asking me for my password after the verification and it cannot pass that page and i cannot connect . If i disable the two factor authentication on my Microsoft account the app works well, but when I re-enable the two factor authentication after the login the app keeps saying that there is a problem and it cannot sync. Any ideas?

Hi I found a solution that works!!!!
Download the Microsoft authentication app. Remove other 2FA app from your Microsoft account and keep only the Microsoft authentication app.
Do a reset on one drive app on your phone (delete data from this app) and the re connect one drive using Microsoft authentication app.
Then connect you phone to your computer and copy all of your photos from your computer to the dcim folder on your phone.
Then move or delete the photos and videos from the Samsung gallery folder on your computer. Don't let any other files inside there. Let the phone make the sync.
There is a problem though. Samsung cloud cannot sync files like *.mov. Then check which files aren't sync. You can convert the files with your phone later by editing them within the gallery app.
Sorry for my bad English.
Hope it helps
