You need to be sure what device you have. Is it an sim unlocked device?
I think you need to update your RIL/BB...I've never seen that bb version though. See this thread and thread2. Like the img attached from my device, you need to see a compatible match between RIL and Baseband.
Some radios should also work outside the area they're originally designed for, although the latest one for Europe/International in the Google train is XXLJ1, same RIL from XXLH1. It would be wise to be running the latest RIL/BB combo for the area/carrier (if applies any special conditions) you intend to use the device on, matching installed Android version (in this case, JDQ39).
edit: and just to be extra cautious, check that you have the latest bootloader available to your hardware.

Im Active duty military so i end up where every they send me. I had to purchase a local phone since i will be in korea for the next year. I chose the Samsung Galaxy Nexus as my phone. i wanted to know if i can still root this phone and flash a custom rom with out messing up the phone.

The boot loader says the Board name: tuna Rev 9.
The base band is: M420KRKK7.
Kernel Version is: [email protected] #1.
Build Number ITL41F.M420KREK24.
Please Let me Know Thank You
This is not a stupid question.
The simple answer is that the M420K is the KT Telecom version of the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus, internationally known as I9250 but has bigger battery. So, yes. You can do all of the above.

Almost the same question though it might be repetitive or stupid. I have that HSPA+(3G) version of KT Telecom GN coming a few days later. Is that the GSM GNex? That is, will all the applications, custom ROMs and firmwares for GSM version in XDA going to work with my phone? I checked out both forums for GSM and CDMA version since all Korean phones use CDMA network, but it seemed like CDMA forum here was all about LTE version serviced by Verizon.

Basically, the Korean Galaxy Nexus is not CDMA. It is GSM and works in Korea using the 3G WCDMA. You can confirm this by switching off the 3G in the Wireless Settings "Use only 2G networks" and you will see that you lose the phone signal and can't make any calls.

would a pentaband GSM model work in Korea if brought from the u.s./Europe?
If so, how difficult is it to get a prepaid or temporary sim card when visiting?

Yes.
Prepaid or temporary sim card is pretty hard to come by cheaply if you want data.
Yes. Forget prepaid sim if you want 3G data.
Getting set up with a phone in Korea is a real pain for expats.

I bought Galaxy Nexus from somewhere else. It was unlocked. So i am not sure if it supports LTE over Fido or not. I was thinking to request for LTE sim but wanted to confirm if my phone even supports it or not.
I do see H+ on my signal bar but i believe LTE is different. Can someone tell me any way to confirm if the device supports LTE or not. (without connecting to LTE network)
It's really simple.
If it is a gsm phone it does not have lte
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Turn the phone off then remove the battery and read the label where the battery goes and if it reads GT-i9250 or GT-i950M it will not support LTE.

AFAIK the only LTE gNex are for Verizon & Sprint (CDMA in the US). If you look at Setting >> About Phone >> Baseband * it starts out I9250 it's the GSM model

Thats a more discrete answer
Model Number: GT-I9250
GT-i9250 "Maguro": GSM/HSPA+ variant. Features support for both AT&T's and T-Mobile's HSPA+ bands in the United States. This particular variant is currently sold SIM-unlocked by Google in the Play Store
Thanks though

Not that i like and want bash you, but can't you understand simple English?
I assume you understand English since you're from Canada.. If you don't understand English, then fine, i take back my words.
And a simple Google search would answer your question..

You do have Google in Canada?

the "Baseband version " on my nexus 5 shows "M8974A-", does it support lte in US? It's an international unlocked version cell phone, and AFAIK, all the international version phones DONT support lte in US, is that real?
Hi,
I have a Xperia Ion, Firmware .68 LT28i, rooted, I can't seem to get LTE working... I have tried using *#*#INFO#*#* and changing it to LTE but my carrier defaults to 3G (H symbol) I am in HK, and i know LTE is available, because i went into the carrier's shop and they tried putting my sim card in a Samsung phone and it showed up as 4G. So, are their any settings i need to change to get LTE? The download speeds are slow so i i don't think i am on LTE.
Thanks
Bolo

Feck. It seems LTE Band 4 and 17 are not actually supported by any of the networks in HK, What a waste of time this is then. LTE seems to be a bit of a mess with so many different versions of the same phone required to support LTE!
My phone can't detect LTE. I don't know if the problem is my baseband, but I can't find one for my country (Philippines), so I just used the default one. All I can find are for Hong Kong and India. No problems with other connections, just the LTE. I'm on CM 11 Nightly btw.

I have the same problem for my sister's LG Optimus G E975. Not rooted. I've checked that the network (Smart Philippines) supports this phone with LTE with bands 1, 3 & 5. But all we get is HSDPA. I've tried *#*#4636*#*# to manually select LTE only then network unavailable. I don't know how to fix this. Well clearly Im really new here so I hope someone helps. Thanks.
I recently switched to the Z5 Premium single sim version and can't seem to get a 4G+/LTE-A connection at all. I can get regular 4G etc. fine. It's definitely not just the symbol either, because the speeds are regular 4G and not 4G+. When I put the sim back in my Galaxy Note 4 it works with 4G+ perfectly. The phone is simfree from Amazon UK on unbranded firmware. I see the modem is a Telefonica UK one though, not sure if this makes a difference. Three Ireland use band 20 for 4G+, so I know it's compatible. Would flashing firmware from a different country help? Is there a way to flash the modem or baseband of a different firmware to make it switch to 4G+, maybe Three Sweden or something? Is it a problem with the network? Thanks, Griff

I would check your APN first to make sure it matches your carrier, if that does not make a difference I would find a firmware that matches your carrier. On AU customized I get the 4G icon, on Singtel I get LTE and VoLTE but the speeds are pretty much the same. I am in the US though and what they call LTE here is not really LTE. So on some firmwares I get the 4G icon and some the LTE icon but like I said the speeds are the same.
