I am so angry at me right now... There is plenty of dust collecting between top bezel and glass, so I sticked a fingernail in there in order to clean the dust and as I was making my way through the bezel, the screen broke on the way from bezel to speaker, so now I have 2mm long crack on top of the phone....
I guess I can't do anything with this now. Are there any cases that can hide this part ? I mean - cases that reach or cover the top speaker
Shame... its a fantastic device but build quality is rather delicate especially compared to htc one or nexus4
Wow that is the first time I heard of anyone with this kind of an issue. Best you can do is either try to use a Anti glare screen protector or use a vinyl sticker that changed covers everything else besides the display, that would help cover up the cracks. You should post a picture of the affected area to get better opinions.

Thanks for answer. What type of sticker do You mean ?
The full version of accident was like that:
in the morning I dropped my n2 from hands height (I am a tall 1,86m person) directly SCREEN onto tiles in my flat. I had pc+. Case and back cover FLIED away. I reinstalled everythig and noticed plenty of dust collecting on top - between bezel and screen in that little gap. So I started cleaning it and the area above speaker just cracked. I guess it must have been structurally damaged from the fall and I finished the job. I have n2 for 4 months and did that cleaning couple of times without problems.
Anyway. it looks like this

The crack is a little more visible in real and really annoys me. Thankfully it appeared above the speaker so there is now way that crack can continue further.
So, what are means of hiding it? Can You link the screen protector and tape You recommend ?
Also - I want to get new case. that pc+ maybe did the job but now I want a case that will have higher bumpers from the screen side. And I want those bumpers to reach further into the device if You know what I mean. At least so they will hide the mentioned gap, so dust wouldnt colelct in there. maybe uag ?
For future referance I never use nails instead use a business card as it is thin enough and rigid enough to het the dust out. And I have no idea why I thanked to previous post 2wice.

Have you seen those stands at the mall where they wrap your gadgets up with some type of vinyl sticker? It wraps around like Zagg invisible shield but you can choose different designs or texture and it actually holds on well. Well you can choose to only have it on the front screen and in white. I'm not much into all the various gimmicky covers available in the market but I'm using the Samsung Protective Cover+ which has protected my note2 pretty well and barely adds thickness. You should check that out.

I'd say just ignore it. And if it really really really bugs you then you may as well just replace the glass panel, which is a bit difficult, but still doable. Just check the link in my signature.

I needed some way to differentiate my dev phone from my daily phone. So, I grabbed some fusion plastic paint from Walmart. I scuffed the surface with a scotch-brite pad, then cleaned with 92% alcohol, then painted and applied clear-coat.

The paint also helps to hide the small crack I repaired next to the menu button.
I'll let you guys know how the paint holds up. What do you think?

Not if he goes and buys a quality clearcoat.
I mean, id even suggest going to autozone for automotive clear coat and using that. If you want it to really last, use a few coats.
EDIT: I should read the entire first post.
It looks good. Matches up with the colors from Andromeda.
Nice. My friend has an otterbox for his iphone just like that.
I should have done a better prep job. Do not use the method I mentioned above. Go with 400 grit sand paper to smooth out the surface, then 800 grit sandpaper to remove the 400 grit scuffs. Then use alcohol to clean and then paint.
It has received 1 chip so far which I attribute to improper surface prep.
Here's a picture I snapped to day of my ultra-jig and the arduino which I plan on communicating with.
ok now i want more info on your ultra jig....
what else does it do? just varriable resistance via the switches? so it would be able to enter dock mode too eh? anything else?
and the arduino? what you gonna do with that fun thing?

It's for all the factory modes and OTG mode listed here in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820275 I plan on helping out on saving some bricks with the Arduino's communications libraries. The wrapped around wire will connect into the Arduino. Hopefully I can get some good USB to serial to UART going on.

Oh wow you made it. So you got the connection you were wanting.

That's pretty cool really stands out with those colors. but my case broke in same exact spot no more then 5 minutes ago. But hey if the case could talk it woukd have storys for days
Just call otter. They will send a new one. That's why I don't have a problem messing with this one. My new one was free. Just go on their website, dial the number in the upper right corner and tell them what happened to your case and where you bought it. They sent me a new one with that information only.

Sorry, this is off topic a bit but do you think clear coat nail polish would be able to make the rubber part of the Otterbox Commuter less rubbery (and maybe harder)?
I know you probably don't have the case, but I'm talking about this rubber piece that goes before the hard shell:
The reason for this is because the rubber piece is too rubbery and it collects a ton of dust. It also dislodges a bit when I take it out of my pockets due to it being rubbery so I was looking for something I could use to make it less so. I didn't think of nail polish though. Let me know if you think this would make sense. It's just a random idea in my head when I seen you mention it. I would just be using it on the exposed top and bottom parts.

Thanks. I've looked at those skins for other devices but don't know anyone who has actually tried them. They look good on the website.
These work really well. My wife has had a few different ones on her iPod and they stay put, are easy to install, and don't leave any residue. I would recommend them to anyone.
I also had one on my N1. It was pretty nice and held up well. I've actually got a couple pics of it on the eBay listing I have for it now. It was a stormtrooper with a blaster. I think they will put pretty much any pic you want on the skin.
I have used these on ipods and xbox controllers they come off just fine dirt builds up around edges a little rubbing alcohol takes it right off

and just like with cases, I imagine they don't make any for the extended battery?
Very durable.
I have one of their skins on the front of my PC (It was free when I bought it...)
Since it's vinyl and not plastic, I'm sure you could trim it with an Exacto knife to put it on an extended battery, but I know that's not the same thing.
I wonder if someone sent them an ext cover if they'd be willing to mock one up?
I've used gelaskins brand skins before and they leave no residue. Alas, none available for TB yet. If these are similar vinyl I wouldn't think residue would be much of an issue.
Does it stick against clothes? I'm thinking about it, but I wouldn't get it if it makes hard to take out of my pocket.

My company gave skinit's out for its last birthday and I picked up one for my old moto droid. They work fine, they don't peel at the edges, no residue, no issues taking it in and out of my pocket. Only problem I had was with the front panel sticker, it didn't seem to fit as well as I would have liked, so I ditched it.
I eventually got bored of it and just peeled all of it off, came off in one quick peal.
One thing to note (iirc) the front sticker covers the softkeys in the front bottom. I didn't use this on the moto droid so I can't say anything about it affecting usage.
The gelaskins for the TB are out, but they do not include a front sticker, it seems.

i'm using a real dry carbon fiber skin from skinomi... fits perfect and looks slick
I had a skin on my EVO I believe was from DecalGirl, but the edges of the stickers raised a little, so after a few weeks it took extra effort not to accidentally peel them off. Could be fixed by making them thinner, tapering the edges, or overdosing the edge with adhesive. Are these better?

I have been using since original post no peeling at all and my phone goes in and out of my pocket alot. For application I did wipe my phone well with alcohol taking off the oil from my hands
It does not affect usage of my front buttons. Although it does diminish the light.
Every sticker fit perfectly on the phone not to big or small.

How do you think this skin would work if I used my phone in a case sometimes? Would it play nicely or do you think it would be a problem? (Yes, I realize the silliness in putting a case on a phone with a skin - I personally use my phone both with a case, sometimes, and naked at other times.)

I have had the same skin installed on my phone, it fits fine in the case-mate pop case. I haven't had any issue with it or with the car mount.
I had to exchange my TB just last week and it took some real effort to actually peel off the skin. I am getting a second set for the new unit soon.
PS. I think the phone wit skin would fit fine in a soft/rubber/gel case but hard case like seidio surface which is very tight fitting. I think that will create an issue.
I would say it would fit easily inside almost all cases maybe even all.
It's less then 1/16th in thickness
If I still had a micometer I would check it for you but its really not serious.
Tapatalk
Skin makes it difficult to put on a hard case... Even though it is not very thick it still makes it difficult to put a hard case on and if you do use it with a hard case the case will screw up the skin and put creases on the skin as well as scratch marks on the skin.
My one x fallen today from my desk on a wooden floor right on its screen...
Is it built to avoid internal damage from such crashes?
Yeah, it'll be fine... Biggest worry is always the screen smashing.
I would assume that if the screen is fine, then the internals are fine. There are not many moving parts appart from the vibrator so it should be fine

Well screen perfectly handled it ^_^ physically internal build you say well sheilded from such things?
One more thing i noticed and unsure if i had it before.... The top of the screen got such like cut artifact like part of the picture cuts (like in bad frame sync games on pc) delay behind.... im on paranoid rom jb with custom kernel tripndtoid which i installed few hours ago....could it be the gpu drivere in this kernel?
There's a video on Youtube of a guy doing a drop test. He basically drops it from various heights onto concrete. Although the screen eventually cracks from a face down hit, it continues to work fine. I wouldn't be too worried
So no worries from drop .... Thanms
graphical artifacts (while sliding the top side of the screen was like cutting it self) its gone now after installined re-packed faux.

Good to know.... the press guy at HTC i think mentioned that they built ONE X to be "hard to break" phone... and used some special plastic which knows to avoid stress and internal damages... but hopefully this engineering also smart to avoid internal damages when it falls right on the face (screen) hehe... think so?
Whenever someone mentions possible damage to their one x, it makes me cringe! Hope its all good for you

Like others have said, if the screen is fine then internals should be fine too. The biggest risk of dropping the One X is breaking its' screen. That is why I use a thin TPU case, with a small lip around the bezel which prevents the screen touching any flat surfaces. It should protect the screen from small drops. And I also don’t have to worry much about placing it face down on a hard surface. Unless you are one of those people who absolutely hate having a case, I highly recommend using one.
The case I use looks pretty decent, better than most other TPU cases out there. The texture on it's back closely resembles the feel and look of the polycarbonate back. It also prevents the camera lens touching the table when rested on its' back. Here are couple of photos of it:

Hi all,
I am wondering if any of you have issue with M8's being scratched too easily? Not deep scratch but hairline on it.
I already have a few lines on mine, which doesn't impact the mage quality but it hurts to see them around. One of my friend also starts to see lines on the lens as well.

no scratch yet after 2 days - but whan I look back on my M7 I bought one year ago, there are plenty of little scratches. Not big enough to alter image q, but just to catch up the eye. So this time I put a small piece of screen protector I cut out from an old one. Seems perfect.
m8 scratches
I've got scratches,and smudges.it does affect my pics,this isn't cool
Mine was horrible and effected the pictures really bad.
I used a buffer attachment on my drill and it too our all of the scratches.
Before using the buffer
After buffing
Buffer attachment
Cleaned then lens very well with rubbing alcohol then buffed for maybe 2-3 seconds cleaned again with rubbing alcohol and all scratches and scuffs were gone

I still have some scratches, not noticable on the pictures -or maybe I am too dumb to notice - but still Alcohol+qtip did not help...
so I just wait till it gets worse... thank god I have 2 years of insurance for any scratches/damages I will not use that just now.
I recommend the alcohol/q-tip method as it worked perfectly for me. I did have to use my fingernail to scrape the coating off.. After that, I used the alcohol and a papertowel to remove the rest.. Lens looks new... Then cut a lens cover from an extra screen protector I had...

HTC Guaranteed Free Repair
I had this exact problem! Here is my story of how I received a free repair from HTC:
I emailed HTC’s USA President, Jason Mackenzie, directly with my complaint. (I did this over Memorial Day weekend.) I explained my past experience with the M7—which was excellent-- and suggested that the M8 is somehow defective.
Jason responded within hours and indicated that someone would contact me on Tuesday. On Tuesday, I was called on both my cell and work phone, and I received an email! When I got back with HTC, they offered to provide an overnight shipping label (both to and from HTC) and they also GUARANTEED that my phone would be repaired FREE OF CHARGE.
Jason Mackenzie’s email address is: [email protected]
***In full disclosure, I emailed Jason from my work email address—I am an attorney. Notwithstanding, I think all affected M8 customers should receive this same remedy—and probably a free case to compensate for going without your phone during the repair. Anyway, give it a shot!
Lens fix...
They seem like scratches but really aren't.
I thought the same thing as well...It is actually a coating that flakes off.
What I did was spray a little bit of plastic cleaner on a microfiber cloth and rubbed vigorously and came out perfect as new.
The cleaner can be found on Amazon...It is called Plexus and works wonders and is non abrasive.

I agree that it is just some kinda coating that is coming off as mine has just about fully cleared up. You can still see it very clearly on the depth sensor and I'm looking into ways of cleaning it off. My question is if it is a coating on the camera what is that coating for and will removing it change the way my camera works?
Metal polish and soft cloth/Q-tip, bit of rubbing, gone in seconds.

I don't think it affects pic quality...I don't know if it is a film left over from the man. process or a reflective coating. My pictures look just as good but w/o the anxiety of thinking I had a scratched lens. Just don't use a polish with ANY kind of grit in it.
I have scratches on mine too but since it's just a coating, I'm leaving it in place since it hasn't affected my pic quality at all. I just think of it as a screen protector doing its job.
I had an XPeria Z1 and it also had an oleophobic coating that you could peel off with some effort (there are Youtube videos showing how). I wonder if this is the same thing?

Cases will not protect the large camera lens from getting scratched. They only prevent shattering, and only if the case is thick enough to extend beyond the camera lense. Even with a thick case, the lense could still easily be scratched since it is only plastic and not Gorilla Glass like the screen. What you said is not helpful to many people.
The point of my post was this:
This phone comes with a camera lense protector pre-installed. Whether the user wants to remove that or not is up to them, but whether it was removed regrettably, or kept attached and worn down over time, some people will need to replace the protector for some reason or another. This is the only lense protector I've seen so far, and I only came across it by complete accident and thought I would share it with my fellow V20 users.

Did you have the factory screen protector installed also with these or does it not fit with the factory screen protector on the camera?
Sent from my VS995 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I'm not sure what the factory protector is. I ended up sending these back because some landscape photos I took looked washed out some, plus I swapped my thinner leather case for the Pierre Cardin that protects the lenses. When I took them off, I noticed the actual lens was recessed some into the plastic covering over the whole assembly. I'm assuming that maybe that is the factory protection? If so, it's a great idea because it's recessed enough to keep the actual lens from touching anything when laying the phone down.
But... is it only 2 circles and not the whole glass? ... LOLi no wonder it has 3 stars on amazon. Any object could hit anywhere else outside those 2 circles and the glass would still break... But im glad to say that after soooo many drops (really hard drops including street and a wall by accident), my phone still looks brand new and no crack on the camera LOL (yes i do have a poetic revolution cover). im starting to believe that only a percentage of the sales came with that defective glass because some people said that they were doing nothing that could affect the glass and all of the sudden it just broke on them. and... well that hasnt happened to me and i bought it on september (exchanged for a new one) and arrived on december. But if the glass were to break on me i would just buy it on ebay or amazon and not just this 2 pitiful circles lol.

i assume they come with the same plastic from factory and so the best option is to leave it on. (i havent remove my plastic yet)
The supplied protector only protects the boarder, the out camera lens, to use these lens protector, you need to default one's, with time these protector will fall off if the default one has been removed as the small size will not hold it in place.
I have these on my phone from two weeks after I got my phone on release date, the reason is that I have plenty of these, but only for the large camera, had to get some smaller ones for the wide angle lens.
I have them on up to now, and they have been perfect.
