[Q] HTC One (M8) bootloop

I flashed a custom rom, and I have TWRP for the recovery mode, I'm assuming its because I didn't wipe the dalvik cache.
It turns on and is on the HTC screen (with powered by android at the bottom, the one it shows when turning on) but it stays on it forever and holding down the power button does nothing, do I just wait for the battery to run out, and boot to recovery and try again?

to reboot to recovery:
Press and hold Power and volume Up until the phone shuts off
When the screen shuts off, let go of power/volume up and press and hold volume down until bootloader comes up.
Select recovery.

Okay, that works, I guess its just the ROM that's messed up. I'm going to try a new one and see how that goes

Follow this guide and make sure to repeat the command for flashing the firmware twice.
Wait a couple seconds after the error appears and repeat the command. It will work the second time.

How are you so sure its the correct firmware? Where did you get it from?
Unless the firmware is signed and encrypted, and matches your CID; then you need s-off to flash it.

Yes, its possible, but only with s-off.
I also don't see the point in doing so.

Found an OTA update zip on the Internet that contains the firmware.zip. When I flash the firmware.zip the signitature verification succeeds, so for me it seems the firmware is signed and has correct Version otherwise I would get an error.
Besides that if I unlock the device I get an error which is the case if the firmware.zip is signed.

Are you running a custom ROM? If so, flashing a custom ROM already flashes boot.img. No need or benefit in doing it separately by fastboot.
Otherwise, its hard to know what exactly is causing the bootloop, and whether flashing boot.img will solve it or not.
And you already said you tried to flash boot.img, and it failed.

I bet you get a lot of thanks button for xda hits because of this issue,huh? Thank you,the same thing happened to me and luckily I was home and plugged it up to my computer and luckily got adb reboot recovery to get me out of it. Hopefully I won't need this again but thanks for the info if I do.?

How can I turn off the phone if vol + doesn't works?

Help need, M8 won't boot up...

Evening,
My M8 won't boot up it gets stuck in the HTC screen.
I wanted to update my phone to be using the latest ARHD version. It's been a while since i did that.
First of all i've update recovery, that went ok. After that i've decided to flash firmware (3.28.401.7.zip) twice, that went ok as well.
But then i had to reboot my phone, and it gets stuck. I have no clue what i've done wrong. I've done this process before and there were no issues back then.
My CID and MID are correct according to the firmware i've flashed.
I am still able to reboot my phone with power button + volume up, and get into the bootloader that way. I can't get into Recovery as well, when i try to start Recovery i get the red triangle with the ! in the middle.

That's weird dude. I've done a few firmware flashes, and have never had to reflash recovery.
No reason to feel dumb. I would feel a little perplexed if anything. At least it is fixed. :good:

If you look in sneakyghost's FUU thread you'll find both wipe and no wipe zips... The differences are stated there, but to sum up the most relevant here: wipe version deletes recovery and you have to flash custom one again; with no wipe version current recovery is kept, and so no need to flash it again

I've always used firmware with TWRP included. Not so weird after all.

yup, just go ahead a do "fastboot reboot" this will boot to android if you have an OS on your phone, or fastboot reboot-bootloader"
and this will reboot to the bootloader.
what your looking for is the OKAY and Successful at the end, the last part of the green bar is actually the reboot process.

RUU/VZW/5.0.2/Zip/EXE/S-OFF only!

Custom RUU for sense 6 and Lollipop 5.0.2. This file is not encrypted and is for S-Off users only! I posted an RUU mode flashable TWRP file at the bottom of this post... but if you would like to use an app like flashify to flash your own custom recovery that will work too right out of the box as this RUU is ROOTED!

Install EXE method)
Download exe.. Double click exe on pc and allow it to extract and do its thing.
Install Zip method)
Download file into working fastboot directory. Boot phone to fastboot mode and connect to pc. Type in the following commands.
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash zip VZWm7_6.22.605.3RUU.zip
first time you run this it will be short... so run it a second time
Example in second post..
fastboot flash zip VZWm7_6.22.605.3RUU.zip
The command prompt output will show you details as it flashes each partition and will show you when it has completed. At this time the green bar on the phone will appear 99% of the way across the screen.. Completely normal!~ Issue the next command to kick it out of RUU mode or optionally flash the custom recovery TWRP if you intend to root/flash custom roms and THEN issue the below command to get out of RUU mode.
fastboot reboot
(note) if you just want to reboot back to bootloader you can issue the command fastboot reboot-bootloader This will allow you to boot directly to recovery and start flashing/rooting fun.

Fastboot erase cache
Heap means cache is full.
I ran this same ruu on my m7 before posting it and had the same error fwiw. We had weird stuff on the m8 in jumping from kitkat to lollipop

Added that to my second post. This might keep me from using the exe option. I may need a tester who hasn't flashed it yet to try the exe for me.

Your PC doesn't have enough free ram.
Need at least 2gbs free.

Really, on an 8 GB machine. I'll check again. I'm on Windows 8.1, and usually run about 32% ram usage. I'll check though, not doubting you.

Unzip this. Copy ruu to it. Open cmd prompt from there and use the HTC_fastboot.exe in this folder instead

Usually when I see not enough space or something to that effect, it's lack of available ram for it to cache the file.
But I guess in your case, that wasn't the issue and I'm glad you got it worked out. :good:

I've always been curious about what this line means, I know I've seen it in your posts for previous RUU versions as well:
NOTE.... VZW does not allow bootloader unlocking and since you must have root to use @scotty1223 's command you will need to flash a custom recovery and root the the stock rom.
What is scotty1223's command?
I cant wait to flash this later after work, do you have to change much when reworking the zip or is this mostly from intercepting the OTA version and tweaking it to have root and not relock the bootloader?

If you are bootloader unlocked to start this comment doesn't apply. If you are flashing the ruu via fastboot you can simply flash the twrp zip immediately after the ruu in the same fastboot mode.

I just realized you had a second question here....
lol.
so here's the thing... no OTA or RUU will relock for this device. The older device's had an EXE that did the relocking. The RUU zip itself did not. So that said, for every device even up to the m9 no OTA or RUU zip file will do it. Would have to be an EXE or human to do the actual relock.
I had to repack this last night because something didn't seem quite right for me and for me that meant flashing back to 4.4.4 and re-flashing both OTAs again to go for a cleaner build. I believe something was weird in my first flashing of the OTAs because on the second time it took a hell of a lot longer (something which most of the people i know reported on their first time). I suspect the phone i had just gotten back from HTC might not have really had all the 4.4.4 firmware on it. So this time, I tested and retested it on my own device before uploading around 2am. Was a long day and night for me......
I'm fairly certain this is the clean build.....

iv'e or the past few days to get the OTA 5.1 update to my rooted M9 on EE UK. I remember on my old M7 that I could just install the recovery file that I saved and the update would happen ,
anyway I was trying to get the recovery file for my phone ( 1.32.61.15 ) and someone gave me the file , I put the file on my phone and tried to install the image with TWRP anyway instead of installing it as a revevery file I installed it as a boot file . now my phone only boots to bootloader etc won't do anything . can anybody help please

i downloaded the file that you gave me the like to , i saw the recovery file inside and installed it with TWRP i downloaded the update form EE and went to install the file .i got black screen with a picture of a phone and the green progress bar got to about 25% and the phone just turned off and went onto a black screen with red writing with download moad , bootloader mode power down , reboot etc.anyway i tried to install the recovery image with TWRP again and by accident instead of flashing the file to recovery i flashed it to Boot. so now the phone dosen't boot up correctly and goes onto a black screen that i typed about earlier . hope you can help

Who said anything about flashing anything with TWRP ?
rename the RUU.zip to 0PJAIMG.ZIP, place it on a ext sd card formatted in FAT32 (a 16 or 32gig one should work), reboot into DOWNLOAD_MODE, agree and it should flash.
or
If you have problems with the normal fastboot flashing any RUU you'll have to use the htc_fastboot pulled from the RUU.EXE

The first step is to get adb and fastboot setup on your PC and working HTC drivers
look here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
and the drivers are here > http://www.mediafire.com/download/j55vk6qbbr6250c/HTCDriver_4.8.0.002.exe
then drop the htc_fastboot and RUU.zip in the folder with adb. then boot your phone to download mode and use the commands I posted above

I blanked out my serial number
adb devices - returns your devices serial number, not to be shared on public forums

i get to the point of ( list of devices attached ) but nothing happens

is there anyway i can just install a boot up image, thats where i went wrong at the beginning

got it sorted last night the OPJAIMG .zip file that you supplied .i went on the internet and got the same file but from another web site. i put the file on the sd card and it worked . good job i backed everything up lol. i want to say a big thankyou from me .your a star
