"can't play this video" - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am having problems playing videos. I tried MX Player ES Player and the standard Samsung / Google one.
YouTube, XMBC work.
TV Portal, 1Channel (stand alone apps) do not work.
I just did a clean flash of Wampasaurus to fix the problem, but it is still there.
My best guess is an update of some app is causing the glitch.
I also want to learn how to diagnose errors myself.

Have you tried dice player? I have some videos which not works on MX player but I can play same on dice player , & also there might be problem in videos also. Please double check same in PC along with extensions & formats of videos.

The thing is, it was working a few days ago. So downloading another player is just a bandaid, if it even works.
I will download it if it helps diagnose the problem.

is it the same video file that worked before? is it any and all videos?
if it's a different file you might be having an issue with the file format. for example most video players won't play .mkv files vplayer can. a different video player might help you if this is the problem.
if it's the same video file that worked before I have no idea

Streaming videos via TV Portal stopped working. Now I can't play music files, MP3.
[EDIT] MP3s are working again. I changed nothing. I did try other players already on my phone and they all worked. I don't know why. [EDIT]
I can play my own SGN3 videos and downloaded avi / flv files.
I may have to remove all my apps and do a function check. If it works, function check after every reinstall.

I use QQplayer to play all my videos. Works perfectly. (It's free in the play store).
As for mp3 files, Rocket Music Player. (Free and paid versions both work great).
Good luck.

[Q+R] HTC Connected Media/DLNA

Hi all,
I'm using last Cyanogen ROM on my DHD. I'm really happy with it but it's missing a working DLNA application. I have tried several apps on the market but none seems to work like the HTC one did. Would it be possible to extract HTC Connected Media/DLNA app from HTC ROM and install it on cyanogen? Would it work and how to install it in case someone could extract it?
The only app that seems to work is Twonky Server, a free app downloaded from the market. The only problem with it is that is unable to reproduce .mp4 recorded files with Cyanogen ROM, while it's ok with the .3gp ones recorded with HTC stcok ROM. Could it depend to a kind of incompatibility of Twonky Server or of my Samsung TV, where I use to see my media files?
Best Regards...
I stream videos and music to my DHD using the apps UPnPlay and VPlayer.
The Upnplay app can find your media server and stream, while the Vplayer app is able to play most video files including divx.

Thanx for your reply. But that's not what I was looking for. I found many apps that can share my DHD media contents with my Samsung DLNA TV. But there seems to be problems with .mp4 videos recorded with Cyanogen ROM. Stock ROM allows you to record .3gp files that are smoothly played on my tv via DLNA. But with .mp4 video I only get on my tv the message " unknown file format". So if there's someone who experienced the same situation and can halp me to understand the reasons of this problem, and maybe how to solve it, will be welcome...

Any good apps for playing windows media files?

I cant seem to find one that works from the market and didnt see much in my search in this section. I used to use Arc Media player but that doesnt seem to work anymore. Most of them will play the file but there is no picture, just audio. Other files such as AVI seem to play fine with most of the players I have tried.

Use moboplayer. It supports all video codecs.

You can try moai video player. Its free of the market and plays almost everything. Also FVD video downloader will download videos to your sd card and has a built in video player.
Thanks for the replies I will give them a try
Crap, none of these worked so far.

I've generally had great luck playing any video format with mobo, including wmv.
I like MX Player. It has hardware decoding capabilities. If that doesn't work it supports multi core software decoding.
Rock Player plays just about anything
There's also a VLC player in alpha mode I think that may play it. Ill post it when I can.

Winamp and power amp are what I use. Pro versions aren't free though. The Google play version works as well. Not sure if it plays local wma files, but it definitely play wma files from its server.

Play avi video files on dropbox app ?

Hey guys,
I recently bought my HOX and I love it !!
I have one little question. I Own a iconiaTab A510 which is on tegra3 and ICS as well. When i try to play avi file (3-10Mo) from dropbox app on my tab they just play fine. But on my HOX it just doesn't work. I tried mxplayer, vlc, vplayer but none of them worked ! Do you have any idea why ??
dropbox app v 2.1.10 on both
I don't think it's related to the Dropbox app, since once the file is downloaded, it's job is done and another app is called to handle the file. What software are you using? MX Player works flawlessly here, both with SD and HD videos.
Hi,
With latest dropbox app, you don't need to download files anymore, you can play them in streaming. If I download my video, you're right, mxplayer works fine. Unless the streaming feature only works on tablet...

I will try to upload a video and stream it, though my Dropbox always uploads unbelievably slow, so it might take a while...
EDIT: I have tried several mp4, 3gp and avi files, and all streamed well (a bit slowly, but I could get the to play after a bit of buffering) except for the avi ones. I'm pretty sure it's because of the dropbox app, because if you click Export -> Save to SD Card and play it from there it works just fine. I also have a 720p mkv file uploading now, but I couldn't find a smaller one around, so it might take a while, and I expect the result is just as it is with the avi file. I'll update if I find anything more.
EDIT 2: Just as I thought, the mkv file refuses to stream, but will play just fine if downloaded first. So it looks like you'll have to store your videos locally while you watch them, or find some other way of streaming them
Ok, you're right...if you do export>mxplayer it works after a bit of buffering...but if you just click on your video and select mxplayer, it doesn't play...which is weird because my A510 does play the video this way without buffering...anyway thanks for your help

[Q] terrible MKV playback?

So I've been searching for about a day now for a solution to this problem. I've been trying to play MKV files on my phone, but every single player i've tried (mobo, mx, rock, vlc nightly, bs, dice, and vplayer) have been really stuttery and the audio desyncs massively.
It seems that most people are able to play MKVs but for some reason I can not get it to play smoothly at all.
Has anyone come across this and know a solution?
(the file I'm trying to play is a 720p h264 mkv with aac audio. I would put up all the file information if I knew how, so I can if someone shows me)
I'm really sorry if there is an answer to this somewhere, but I tried a search here and only got a thread talking about how everyone can play MKVs smoothly
Are you running a stock Rom or one of the aokp or cm roms? With stock I haven't had an issue with any mkv even on my previous sgs and sgs2. Are all mkvs having problems or is it just the one ?

dude i can stream mkvs without problem
mx player by turning the software decoding on in settings
or vlc player beta
It seems like it only happens on 10bit MKVs. MX Player is the best with software decoding but there are still some dropped frames. I saw a video of someone playing 10bit perfectly fine and a thread saying the S3 can handle 10bit so I'm not exactly sure whats wrong.
I'm running TuchMi 5.0 so I might try to go back to full stock just to see if that helps.
I would try the VLC beta but US can't get it from the play store and the nightly crashes constantly for me.
EDIT: full wipe didn't help
make sure you got the 1.7 update, for me the audio would get out of sync on any anime but with H/W+ that is now solved and i got back DTS thanks to custom codecs.
Software is horrible for me it plays fine, but everything gets artifacts and colored blocks etc. At first i though it was the device that god it wasn't
I have 1.7. H/W+ works for you? it keeps telling me that I can't play the video with it. Can you give an example of and episode that works for you?
Actually I'm curious about this too. Just tried to stream Planet Earth from my PC and I had huge lag because if you are streaming on MKV it uses software decoding...
To be fair I might have to push up my VSEL values...but I really doubt that's the case. Another thing I'm going to try is PS3media server which TRANSCODES (meaning your computer does the coding) for all media files...so it is streaming everything converted for your phone. The annoying thing about it though is that it won't automatically start with my computer
A third alternative is to setup a vlc media player server.

some movies won't play with audio.

I have a problem with some movies/series I'm watching on my Galaxy Tab S 10.5, the audio wont play at all sometimes. I'm using MX Player. I was watching these series (The Mentalist) and episodes were playing fine (MKV files), until I ran into one that would play but on mute, I tried playing the file on my PC and it was fine.
I looked around and apparently MKV is not supported by this tab? but why can I play a lot of other MKV files without any problem?

MKV is supported, AC3 is not. I don't know why samsung exclude AC3 audio codec from firmware. You can either try to enable software audio encoding in MX player or use VLC player, OR if you have a root acces, u can install AC3 codec. search here on XDA about how to do it.

Playing MKV without audio probleem. There is a special codec you can download somewhere on the net, just look around.
I use allplayer to play some movies that aren't supported in the default player.

Click on the "note" icon right to the H/W button. Then select Use s/w audio decoder.
