Im not a stranger to rooting (thanks due to all the awesome devs here!) But sadly a ran low on storage. Bought a 32gb Sandisk class 10 ($24...Why pass on that?!) I copied current sd to computer, then transferred to new sd card. Well, phone was incredibly laggy. Ended up freezing. Pulled battery, rebooted.... froze on samsung screen (waited almost 10 mins) Pulled battery again. Attempted to reflash current rom, but upon reboot it sent me back to recovery with message of no OS. Not one of my roms would succeed. Back to old sd card.
Now i must ask, did i miss something here? Or is it a defective card? Im a sucker for punishment. I formatted card, only putting rom files on to use. Still failed on me.
Returned to original sd card, reflashed rom. Back to normal!!
There is a known issue with SanDisk SD Cards, and the Samsung Galaxy S3. You can find more info HERE. I believe the the issue has since been resolved. You can try to format the SD Card with SD Formatter. It may save the SD Card. But either way you can follow the link I gave you. There is another link there to the SanDisk site. They should replace your card. Or you can take it to your local retailer with a copy of the link page. They should take care of the issue.
What is the best sd card to buy?

That's seems to be a matter of opinion. I still have a SanDisk Ultra SDHC 32GB Class 10 micro SD Card. I had to exchange it once. But after I received the new SD Card, I've had ZERO issues with it.

I would try contacting SanDisk directly. They may replace it.

Hi XDA, seriously problem here that I really, really need to fix.
My father left his phone at home for the FIRST time ever today, his HTC Desire HD was one of the first in the UK, he go it the first day it came out. Today he forgot to take his phone to work, so I put it on charge for him and left for school. He came home halfway through the day to find a warning in the notification bar alerting him that the SD Card had been un-mounted. On seeing this he immidiatley blamed me, as any father would do to a son that enjoys messing around with electronics, however after taking a closer look I noticed that the phone will accept any card except the one that was in it when it unmounted itself at some point within the day.
The card that broke, is the origional Samsung 8GB that came with it (on Orange anyway ~ unbranded as first in UK FTW) when the Samsung Card is inserted all the stats about the card show as Unavailable, and the phone doesn't even recognise a card as being inserted, the same happens when the SD Card is plugged into my computer running Ubuntu & Windows. The card is not recognised at all, infact Ubuntu thought I inserted an empty SD Reader, and thats from Ubuntu! My dad has so much saved to that SD Card, like literally 5 months of holidays and things, I know he should have made back-up's, but is there anyway we could get this back. Thanks.
Hey i had a simmaler problem but i fixed it with my 16gb micro sdcard by takeing it out of my phone and pluging it into my lapyop and move all the files off the sdcard and onto the desktop and then move then back and then put it back into the phone and turn it on and see if it worked
If it didnt please responed and tell me the exact message it says

Hey Man,
I would do this, but my computer doesn't detect the MicroSD even if its in a SD Reader and plugged into my PC?
I had a similar problem... after i got my DHD, I bought a 16gb card for storage. I used this for about 4 months then I started to get the dismount messages every now and then, particularly when the card was being used a lot (playing music from it especially). Then a few days later it would do it after every boot.
My PC can see the files on the card, but trying to copy them off throws an error. I can't format the card either. I have since bought a new one and that is working fine, so it may have just been a faulty card.
It is HTC's fault, bug in the rom causes that. Your father should get an OTA update any time soon that will prevent it from happening again. You can format the SD using a PC and a card reader, it might just revive the card.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
If you want to retreive data on the SD do not format or delete the partition.
Try to use a "data rcovery" tool first.
But if it's not recognise at all (like a piece of plastic and not as a non formated sd) all data maybe lost.
Usually OS corrupt the SD, it doesn't destroy it. If it's dead it not your fault or the OS fault. It's just no luck (try to explain this to dad ).
And beside I think its an San disc not an samsung, like I have, and try read it with partition manager. If not you can get a new one. And never buy Kingston cards, I had 5 of them and all died in few weeks.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Kingston makes the best and fastest cards, you have just abused them or something like that..
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I do not think so, all Kingston was a waste of money for me, but my sandisc m2 micro sd are working fine for 6 years with no problem at all.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Well, both Kingston and SanDisk have worked well for me, and the price is usually almost the same. The difference is that Kingston gives absolutely awesome warranty, and the cards are fast has h*ll. My Class4 Kingston reads 21 megs per second, and writes 12 megs per second.

Loads of bootleg Kingston cards in England and I never noticed any kind of warranty on them while it was the most tempting thing on the ones I used to buy from Finland

Thanks for the information, i've sent an E-Mail to HTC complaining about it. Hopefully they will see the light, and send a new SD-Card as it was shipped with the phone from HTC.
So i was anybody has a 64gb microsd card from sandisk in there vibes. I currently have one but im having issues with it in all roms. My computer reads it and the phone recognize it and i try formatting it but after it formats it acts like nothing happened.
Edit: Nvm i seem to fix it, had to go back on my g2 and reformat on that phone then bring it back to my vibes.
I thought this phone only supported up to 32GB?

It can support 64gb Microsd cards from Sandisk. You have to insert it in your vibes and it will appear that you have a error n your sd all you have to do is format it and you have a working 64gb card in your phone. I'll pot picture later on for proof. I'm currently putting most of my music collection in my phone so it may take a while.
pocket now says original galaxy s handles it fine, but i'm gonna wait a few months till i get sgs 3. hopefully by then it will be cheaper too

Which SD card did you buy, can you pose link, thank you.
I am now on my 3rd sd card. It seems my Galaxy s 3 keeps chewing them up. I get random sd card removed msgs and then it won't mount again.
Anyone had this happen? Can anyone recommend a reliable card that this won't happen to?
I've tried pny and SanDisk and both had this happen.

Are you certain its the card and not your phone? Get a card reader, and check to see if your PC/Mac can read it properly. If so, format and try again.
I've had cheap SD cards, and expensive. I have never had an issue.
Sounds more like your S3 is having issues. If the above proves the card is fine, try wiping your phone

I was having the same issues with my SD card but found out it was the ROM is was running that was causing the issues. I flashed Hellfire and have not had any issues since then. I would agree that it is not the SD card but its the phone.
Hrmmm.... I've been running this rom though with the same sd for a month or so now no issues.

I has a SanDisk micro 32 gig ultra or whatever, and it was working great until about a week ago.
I was switching between a couple different roms (paranoid android/kangdroid, frosty, ultimatum, black jelly, etc)
Then, it just died. I couldn't get it ready by any of the 5 devices in tried.
I got a hold of amazon, and and I have a replacement in the mail.
If anyone figure this out, let us know how to not only do this again, please lol

It's the way the SD card is formatted. I had this happen when I switched to AOKP and it kept telling me the memory card was damaged. It turns out I needed to format the card to fat32. Once I did that it worked perfectly.

Any update on this? The same thing happened to me, running stock and unrooted. It looks like everything on my card is gone. Should I try another card or just go get a new phone?
Same problem here.... AOKP ROM and Jedi... my 8g card works but my 32g card will only accept certain files. I can't even create a folder in the external sd card.
Me too, with a 32Gb sandisk card. Card stopped working completely, and wasn't recognized by my phone or computer. I contacted sandisk via their web site support and a replacement is on its way. The approval process took a couple of days of emails back and forth, then they sent me a printable UPS label for RMA. They shipped the replacement out the day after receiving my return.

Same here, with a SanDisk Ultra 32GB card. It worked fine for a month, then just died. I've got a 16GB Amazon Basics that I'm using while waiting for the RMA on the SanDisk. The 16GB card had to be formatted xFAT on my Mac before the AT&T JB ROM (rooted via Mr. Robinson) would read it reliably, but it's been good since then.
So I checked my phone this morning, and it says the micro SD card was unmounted. So I reboot, and a little while after, it says it was unmounted again. I rebooted another time, but this time the microSD card wasn't even recognized. I put it into my computer through a Sandisk microSD to SD card adapter, and it's not showing up anymore. Did my phone fry it, or is there any other way to check if it's alive? It's a Sandisk 32gb class 10, and my phone was on Darthstalker, and Deviant kernel. I'm really afraid that $30 just went down the toilet :/
Unlikely that the phone fried it. People will argue the contrary, but SD cards aren't that reliable. Probably time to buy a new one.
I just looked, and it appears that Amazon is no longer selling their brand (AmazonBasics) micro SDs.... I bought a 16GB class 10 for $18 last year. Not sure if they are a rebrand, but worth looking into. They've been pretty reliable so far.
Its like the 50th post about this... Everyone with a true sandisk has been very happy and error free for the most part. Its the people that buy sandisks "on sale" or really cheap from untrusted sites... Sandisks are cloned big time... And they're out there. You probably got a clone...

Personally I have had really good luck with the Sandisk brand. I still have an old 512 MB one that I bought back in 2006 and it still works. I would recommend pulling it out of the phone and making sure all of the contacts are clean and try again. Costs nothing and may solve your problem.
Just the other day, I pulled my 32 GB from my Galaxy S3 and put in my friends phone to swap a file. Although the screen was black on mine, I forgot to completely shut it off. As soon as I reinserted it, it made the sound, and the screen lit up, and mounted immediately. Any manufacturer can have a few duds, but in my experience these Sandisk are pretty reliable. YMMV.

I ordered it off of Amazon on September 13. The seller profile looks good too. Idk, is there a way to check if it's a clone?
For the past 4-5 months, I've been seeing quite a few posts regarding issues with the SanDisk Ultra 32 GB microSDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card 30MB/s with Adapter SDSDQUA-032G-U46. I bought one back in November 2012... been running it hard for 6 months without incident.. so figured I was one of the lucky SanDisk recipients.... until today! Starting today, every time I wake the phone get the "sdcard mount" message. So loaded "SD Card Monitor" from the Market (screenshot attached) and found that during deep-sleep, it unmounts/mounts/removed/bad-removal/ejects constantly (example: phone slept from 10:04am to 10:22am)...but during wake state, no issues. So I suspect I'm about to experience the SanDisk 32GB Ultra kiss of death any day now. Backed up ExtSD to computer, but now the search for a proper extSD replacement. Any recommendations? Leaning towards Samsung 32GB or 64GB...
UPDATE: SEE POST # 30
Yea I just bought mine about a month and a half go. One month in of using it, my card corrupted and I ended up having to reset it. Lost everything! Lucky I put anything of importance on my cloud before it finally died on me. :banghead:

Are you having issues with dropped calls too? I was thinking I was alone, and maybe it was a bad module? I got my phone 2nd hand, and that's my next step to order a new sdcard/sim card module and try to replace it. Data works fine and never cuts out, phone calls last maybe 30 seconds, and it's killed 2sdcards already. ..

Really like that Samsung SD card idea.

I purchased one of these from Amazon last week. Works like a charm, albeit only when formatted as FAT32.
It is roughly twice as fast doing read/writes than my previous Samsung 32GB card.

My Sandisk stoped working also, so I bought the samsung 32gb and it's starting to do the same thing again. I just think there is something wrong with samsung phones in general.
