Do stock based ROMs use apt-x for a2dp bluetooth - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi-
After much reading, my feel is that AOSP ROMs do not use apt-x for a2dp but that stock/stock based ROMs *should* due to the proprietary codec being supported for the galaxy s3.
I'm on stock now. I've read other threads and tried this logcat command:
logcat -v long > log.txt
To see if anywhere in logcat there is "proof" that apt-x is used. There isn't. Also, two observations in /system/etc/bluetooth. 1) A low power bluetooth option is available which I think shows that bluetooth 4.0 must be supported. But then, by default, SBC codec is used, rather than MPEG12, and MPEG24 for lossless is not there.
So does anyone have a definitive way to see if apt-x is being used? I've tried Wicked 10 ROM and am currently on AOSPWIZ stock based ROM with kinetic pulse kernel.
Thanks

xquizit 43 has it
:good:
Someone online posted that Xquizit ROM 35 had aptx in the logcat so I gave the latest version 43 a try. I've tried Wicked and other stock ROMs but nothing. This xquizit ROM though verifies aptx!!!
adb logcat -v long > log.txt
in the log I see this:
[ 06-14 16:09:53.459 2847: 2847 I/bluetoothd ]
A2DP_CODEC_SBC =0
[ 06-14 16:09:53.459 2847: 2847 I/bluetoothd ]
A2DP_CODEC_BTAPTX =255

Xquizit is a very old rom based on LJA I think it was. If it has it the all the stock based roms should as well. BT is a rarely messed with thing so there are very few, if any, here that the devs did anything to change it.
Because it was on a much older version, I believe its still there only it doesn't report the same as the newer versions.
Just fyi.

Confirmed also that Wicked 10 has it
Thanks. Confirmed Wicked 10 has it. I remember now: I gave up trying to verify on Wicked since by default, logcat was disabled. Had to enable it through root browser. A few ROMs I tried though that were stock based like Infamous didn't seem to have it. Rather than mention aptX they were mentioning SBC. Also confirmed that AOSPWiz didn't have it, and that ROMs appears to be stock based but with a touch of AOSP feel

4.1.2 stock ROMs don't have it?
I may have narrowed this down. I just flashed this basic 4.1.2 stock based ROM, credit to Jovy:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2276645
It doesn't report aptx in its logcat. But then again, it doesn't report using SBC either.
Could it be that aptx is only supported for 4.1.1 ROMs based on stock but not 4.1.2?

Just Google "galaxy s3 bluetooth apt x".
Almost every page that's returned confirms the s3 does have it.

That's not what I'm asking. Natively yes, GS3 supports APT-X but not every ROM makes use of it. I've read that most likely we won't see it in AOSP ROMs because APT-X is a proprietary codec while AOSP is open source.
What I'm asking is: is it safe to assume that every non-AOSP ROM for GS3 uses aptx? Given that some include ACID Audio sound mods etc, how can I know for sure that if a stock ROM I'm trying on 4.1.2 that doesn't report aptx in its logcat is or is not using APT-X? I'm convinced that 4.1.1 stock based ROMs (and stock of course) use it because I found this in the logcat. There are some issues with 4.1.1 so just wondering if someone had confirmation for some 4.1.2 stock based ROM that is using aptx.
Thanks for the comments though, appreciate it

With audio mods it's hard to say, but otherwise any stock based Rom should have it. I would expect even with audio mods for it to be there.

[Q] Why is my sound gone after flashing Tiamat kernel?

So I'm not very familiar with this phone system, I am doing this for my sister. I recently installed CyanogenMOD-7.2.0 on her phone. The phone runs much better than when it was stock. (It is rooted and S-Off). The one issue she had stince gettng cyanogen on there was that the call volume (speaker volume too) was incredibly low. From reading I though that installing a different kernel would fix the issue. From what I read, the best AOSP Kernel for the incredible 2 was Tiamat. I went to
http://tiamat-dev.com/vivow/
I downloaded the latest gingerbread ROM Tiamat_Inc2-v1.1.5 to the external SD card. I wiped cache and davlik cache and flashed the kernel. Now there is no sound at all on the phone. NO call volume, No notifications, No media.
Any ideas what went wrong?
Any Suggestions on another kernel that will fix the sound issues?
Well a lot has changed since then. Tiamat is way outdated. Check out goo.im/devs/aeroevan/kernel/vivow. Grab v13 4.7 graphite.

Just so everyone can see, is an ICS kernel like this backwards compatible with the earlier Cyanogen ROMS?

The ICS kernel was made from the released Gingerbread kernel and hacked up by Aeroevan to work with ICS. It should be fine.

it was suggested not to try that though some did with no problem, I can't remember which kernel fixed that issue, it was only the latest cm that had the no sound issue, look at aeros post over on rootz, I believe it was a test kernel not in the op all others broke sound
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
So I finally got around to flashing this kernel.
Good news: The sound is awesome, much louder
badnews: camera and video playback are broken...
Any additional info on these problems? I haven't seen any other issues YET. Is this fixable with a different version of the Kernel you suggested in the earlier thread or do I need an entirely new kernel?
After a few tries it seems I've figured it out. I used the latest ICS Tiamat kernel Tiamat_VivoW-v031412 and there are no audio issues and the camera and video playback are working. If I run into any other issues I will be sure to post.

Best ROM for my use? (Jelly Bean)

I'm still on stock ICS and I found out that Samsung released Jelly Bean but if I have to flash a ROM through Kies I might as well bite the bullet and get a custom ROM. I've been poking around the development forum and can't really choose one. CM10 and Liquidsmooth both look alright but then I read about problems with Bluetooth and a crackling sound. I use Bluetooth in my car almost everyday and if I can't get a somewhat clear sound I might not want these ROMs. Can anyone suggest ROMs that might be what I am looking for? The things I am looking for are battery (Right now I get strange wakelocks (bam_mux_lock or some such in Better Battery Stats), GPS, Bluetooth, and a smooth running, no lag system.
Can anyone give suggestions?
From my experience, the touchwiz ROMs seem to be more stable. I'd highly recommend Jedi knight or intergalactic.

Going to try out Intergalactic, thanks!
Darthstalker from Jovy23 is a fantastic rom very stable and just awesome looking I highly recommend it.

had my S3 rooted and flashed AOKP's very stable 4.1.2 rom within an hour of getting it home. i'm extremely pleased with my phones performance. i've used AOKP roms (including task650s) in the past and have always enjoyed them. in addition, i've also flashed the 4.2 camera and a few stock sammy apps back onto to the phone to get it exactly how i want it. there's no reason to ever be running an android phone fully stock.

[Q] im not sure which rom to choose

hello! my brother rooted my phone last week before he left out of the country and he left me his xda info to ask if i had any questions since i wont be able to contact him much. my question is, does anyone know of a rom i can use that has functioning wifi tether? we have the unlimited plan but no tether and i would really love to use it. my brother installed darthstalker x and im kinda bored of it (its a great rom dont get me wrong). im just looking for something like an aokp? or aosp? idk what the difference is.. and if possible, maybe with the same motion functionality like on the original s3 rom. i like sliding my hand across to screen capture and all that haha. thanks for all the help!
ps he also installed a different kernel? idk what that means except that he said that i'll get better battery life, thats always a plus
If you want motion functions then you need to stay with a touchwiz based ROM, I think most of them have the free tether cooked in by now, it should say in the first post or changelogs if it does or not

CyanogenMod 10.1 4.2.2 latest nightly works great, including encrypted WiFi hotspot as long as you flash a kernel with it. Stock Cyanogen kernel breaks encryption. The kernel I am using right now is LeanKernel, and everything works great.
Another great ROM is PACman 4.2.1, which is a combination of ParanoidAndroid, AOKP, and CyanogenMod. I stopped using it, cause the settings are kind of a mess at the moment with most of the AOKP options being blank, but again, everything works on it, including encrypted Hotspot, and Bluetooth streaming. I like this ROM mostly because of the ParanoidAndroid settings that let you change the screen density, and per app density. This one does not need another kernel to get the hotspot working.
Here are some links:
CyanogenMod 10.1
LeanKernel
PACman ROM
Oh, and some info on tethering....T-mobile blocks it on PC's using pretty much any ROM, but you can spoof it with a browser UserAgent change and you should be good to go.

I have cynogenMod 10.1 nightly build 20130213 and LeanKernal 2.4. Still couldn't get secure wi-fi hotspot running. Any advice? What am I doing wrong?
update: got my t-mobile samsung s3 running SECURED wi-fi hotspot. :good: ...
I used cynogenMod 10.0 stable version, released on 2012-11-13
Now I'm going to test out other stuff, like making phone calls, call qualities...etc. The most important feature for me is the secure wi-fi.

You went back to a 4.1 build, wifi tether worked fine back then.
If you want 4.2.2 with encrypted wifi, try the latest CM10.1 nightly with LeanKernel 2.6. That combo works perfect for me.

Any stock modified roms?

Hello,
Recently my beloved HTC Sensation broke and since it was no longer made, it was replaced with a g2 which so far I have no complaints about, but there was this one rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531054 made by team venom which I loved. It was essentially the stock jellybean android with the sense (I know there is no sense for samsung) just lightened with more customization. So far the only roms I have found have been CM based, AOKP or AOSP which I am not as big of a fan of just based on the fact, that at least with the sensation the stock rom with some tweaks performed much better than other roms. Please feel free to inform me that other rom versions perform better on the g2 than stock, currently I am on the factory ics with some crap removed by TI and Setcpu to underclock it to squeeze some battery life out of it and even on powersave gov it is snappy. Thanks
I'm not going to make any statements regarding performance - that's for you to determine for yourself. If you want stock JB, you should be looking in the development thread for version 4.1.2. The most current touchwiz work seems to be from Rushing (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2670624). I haven't used his roms, but many people have given favourable reviews.
ptmr3 produced a favourite JB rom awhile back: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818305
I have been using NorthernTouch v1.3, but v1.4 is available (mirror link) here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279348
If you're on T-mobile and use wifi calling, you might want to be looking specifically for roms based on UVMC6 rather than TLUMC4, which is from Telus. Happy flashing!
The ptmr3 rom looks like exactly what I want, I might be getting to greedy here but can I change music with long presses of the volume rocker while the screen is locked? I didn't see that on there.
Also I dont see wifi calling but I hope im mistaken.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
I could be wrong, but I think there's an Xposed module that can do volume rocker music control. Wifi calling is not something I ever look for, so you're on your own there. Time to do some of your own searching.
Thank you all the same
