Hi guys,
I have a problem with my rooted HTC Desire Z.
I use it as a car phone and so I have tasker and secure settings enabled to turn on the phone when starting (powering) my car and go in to airplane mode when turning off the car.
So far so good.
But I discover a problem with my cell phone when turning my car on. So, the phone gets powered and tasker discovers it's been powered and turns off the airplane mode (with the help of secure settings). But unfortunately, often the phone doesn't find the network (I'm on O2 in Germany) and so I have to manually search for available networks and neet to manually connect. And also this doesn't always work.
I don't know whether the problem is known or unknown.
At first I thought it could have something to do with the unroot via HTCDev and so I unrootet it with the instructions in this board. So I have an totally unrooted phone with S-Off. The behavior is the same.
Ok, thought it could have something to do with the Custom ROM I am using. But all the ROM's show the same behavior. Sometimes it works to connect to network and sometims it doesn't.
Is there anybody who is discovering the same behaviour or is there anybody who is in the same configuration like me and it works perfectly?
Perhaps it has something to do with tasker and/or secure settings?
Perhaps it has something to do with my carrier?
Perhaps it has something to do with my anti virus software (Dr. Web)?
I'm right now using the ROM (SlimBean 6.2) with radio 12.62.60.27U_26.13.04.19_M
I appreciate any help.
Thanks.
I think I got the same problem, after I root my phone and installed Rom, I found that when I checked mobile data and it show up the tick as soon as possible as there no need to load... and I found that the logo (arrows pointing up and down ) doesn't show up ... is this the same problem as you have???

Hi,
If you tried to connect with your router, do you used the same script (WPA, ...) for this? Do you entered the password for your WiFi-network? Please let us know, what you´ve done to get access via WiFi.
There was WPA-PSK encryption on my network at first. Then I removed it, connected to the network again, still gave me the same error.
Hallo Guys,
my Name is Veit and im from Germany, so please dont hang me up if my english is incorrect.
Ive bought a HTC Desire and i know an App called "Best Profiles" from my Nokia-Symbian-Phone and now i want to get something else on my Desire.
Best Profiles could switch my Nokia during the night into a "Offline-Profile" where Networking and WLAN is disabled so save Battery. In the morning it automatically switch back to a "Online-Profile" WITHOUT entry of the PIN.
I found some apps that could switch between several Profiles by time-schedule but always the PIN needs to be re-entered.
Is there a way to get it like on the Symbian-Phone ???
Will it be possible with a other App or with a Custom-ROM ?? My Desire is already rooted and my current ROM is the Offficial Untouched Froyo 2.2 from the Forums here !!
Hoping for future answers and a big THX for the guys who do the hard work here !!!
Have you looked at JuiceDefender on the market?
Can do all you want and more
It's free for controlling the mobile internet but you will need to buy UltimateJuice if you want to be able to control WiFi etc.
Hey, thats a good question. I didnt know that app before now.
So if i install / buy that app i should set the phone into Flight-Profile ( Disconnect from Network, shut down WiFi, shutdown Bluetooth ) and reverse all those settings after sleeping without retyping my PIN ???
Hello,
its me again. Ive tried 3 different Apps but everytime the same situation:
I have to re-enter my PIN after reconnect to the Network !!
Any suggestions ????
I don't think you will get an app to do exactly what you want.
When the desire is in flight mode it turns the radio off, turning the radio back on requires the pin entry.
Ultimate juice can turn off wifi, apn's etc, but would leave the radio on so it's not ideal for you.
Other than turning the pin prompt off, I can't see an easy solution for you.
S..t,
OK if its the only way i will switch off my PINcheck and will secure my Phone with the Unlock-Figure.
Maybe in the future some of the ROM-Kookers could switch of the PIN-Reentry procedure after switch off the Flight-profile.
Regards
Veit

Good idea! It might be worth asking for this feature in a specific rom thread so you can be sure the dev knows about it?
SYMPTOM: can't see any mobile networks
BACKGROUND: I've been using htc one x for a month now. Initially on three, but their signal was unusable at home, so sim-unlocked and switched a couple of weeks ago to giffgaff ( a virtual network on top of the UK o2 network).
All has been fine, until today. I sent a few texts & calls in the morning, and mobile data was working. Since then, I can't see any mobile network.
wifi is fine.
Search Networks pops up "Error while searching for networks" and finds none.
No software changes of any sort since last successful call. No changes at all today, at least until I tried to diagnose the problem.
Running stock rom, with the WW update of a couple of weeks ago (1.28.771.9.CL56522 release-keys) -- neither S-OFF nor unlocked bootloader.
Nothing obvious to me in the normal or radio logcat logs.
The only thing I did after the last successful call was to run sensorly to try and map a trip. I've used this before without any problems. It got no connection but I thought nothing of that. I've since uninstalled it just in case it could somehow be interfering with the radio.
THINGS I'VE TRIED:
No, the airplane mode isn't on, and mobile is. I've toggled airplane from settings and power switch, many times
recreated the APN
checked other phones - yes there are a number of networks visible
tried the original o2 sim - same problem
safe mode
cold boot
reboot, reboot, reboot
obviously I haven't pulled the battery...
turned off wifi, in case it was somehow interfering
HTC diagnostic tool
factory reset
confirmed imei is not blocked
Any ideas? Bearing in mind that I'm looking for something which can happen spontaneously.
Interestingly, while writing this I've just noticed that Baseband version shows as Unknown. That worries me - is it possible that my radio partition has spontaneously corrupted itself?
I did speak to 02 support - they said to take it into a shop for warranty repair. I don't want to try a custom ROM just yet -- not when I might have to use the warranty. But is there any way to force it to reinstall the stock rom (preferably not involving windows)?
I have the same problem as well and flashing custom roms did not solve it for me. But for me even the IMEI number is shown as UNKNOWN...I haven't done anything special to get this issue, one day when I woke up the phone could not connect to any network.
I have tried a lot of different methods but with no success. I don't think we can do anything about the baseband without S-OFF.
If a hard reset fails, then it's time to think about returning the unit. Either get a refund or get it replaced.
This may be irrelevant; but I've had this happen to me on my GNexus. I solved it by going back to stock and it just fixed itself overnight.....
my HTC One X did the same after about 2 weeks. Gave it back to supplier, waiting my replacement.
Even tested with a different SIM card, did a hard reset. Problem stayed the same.
Im curious did any of you find a resolution to this? it happened to me a while ago but yet to fing a solution. HTC refuse to fix under warranty because it is unlocked.. i am currently waiting for the next official update to see if that fixes anything but the way things are looking that could be a while..

It sounds like a fault, probably the radio chip has just stopped working, no software is going to repair that. If it was a software problem, there would be hundreds or thousands of people all having the same issue.

Hi, so I recently upgraded the stereo in my car to an appradio 3, I did this so I could mirror my phone onto the screen of the radio. I chose this unit because it is mirrorlink compatible just as our HTC one m8s are. Street several attempts at connecting I have had no luck at getting it to work. I'm doing everything right as far as instructions but something is going wrong. My question is has anyone been able to get this phone working with this radio? And if so, what have you done to make it work?
Edit: forgot to mention that connecting to two of my friends Sony units it works perfectly. Is it possible I have a defective device? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Have you changed the USB settings on the phone to activate the mirror link through usb?
It's in Settings > More > Mobile Network Share > USB Network Settings, then select the last one (translated from German to English, hope the entry's are similar)
Honestly haven't tried it myself

@tomoffel hey tried your advice and still a no go. When I connect my phone it automatically switches to mirrorlink and it says connection is active however nothing changes on the head unit. I might just have to contact Pioneer hope my unit is not defective.
Have you opened the 'car' app in the app drawer? it does not open itself first time its used.
@TheAngelus Hi tried opening up the app beforehand and still a no go. The phone makes the connection and all however the head unit fails to show the mirrorlink app.

I have a 2014 Honda Civic with the Display Audio Unit that supports Mirrorlink. Although the screen mirroring and audio seem to transfer only through the USB connection, it still requires that the phone has been paired using Bluetooth. I'm not sure if that is a requirement of the phone or the car's Display Audio unit. It needs to be connected by both USB and Bluetooth to work though. Once both connections are established, the HTC Car app becomes available on the car's display audio unit.
Is your phone rooted or with a custom rom? i've read that can break the mirrorlink app as the M8 has only just got added as an acceptable mirrorlink device with the latest firmware. Also, check if your headunit has the latest firmware?

That is a good point.
I would imagine that if the custom ROM does not include the mirrorlink functionality, then it obviously won't work. Having a rooted phone and being S-Off is ok, but if the bootloader is unlocked, it will not work. I have an AT&T HTC One M8. When I got the phone, it had Android 4.4.2 on it with HTC SDK API 6.17. All worked well with my phone and my car's Display Audio unit. When AT&T released the new OTA update, it upgraded to Android 4.4.3 and HTC SDK API 6.25, which really screwed things up for me. When I would put the car into drive, the HTC Car App that gets mirrored to the car's Display Audio unit was replaced with a message that said, "For safety reasons, this application cannot be displayed while driving". So, there was no longer any way to view any Navigation, Music or anything else when the car was in drive. My only option was to try to downgrade. So, I unlocked my bootloader, rooted, then S-Off'd (using Sunshine) my phone. I then used an HTC ruu to downgrade my phone. Once that was all done, I was greeted with a message saying "Smartphone not compatible" any time I plugged my phone into the car's Display Audio unit, which ended up being because my bootloader is unlocked. I relocked my bootloader and everything started working again normally. My phone is re-rooted and still S-Off and that causes no problems.

Well my phone is rooted and I'm on a custom rom, I am running the latest viper currently. Also as far as I know the head unit is also on the latest firmware but the last update was from Oct 2013, maybe they need to update their mirrorlink app to support latest added devices. Still what is strange to me is that it will run perfect on my friends Sony head unit even with custom rom. I guess I can try going back completely stock and locking my boot loader to see if that works. I will report back once I get the time to do this. Hopefully someone else can chime in with a solution before this. Haha

I just bought a new One M8 and updated it right away. Now I'm on 4.4.4 and only the Music app would show up while driving. I really wanted to use Google Maps as navigaton app but it always gets hidden whit a simmilar message as ericksonline's when I start driving. I find this very frustrating. Is downgrading the only option to get this working?
Should it be the only option, I think I'll send the One M8 back to the seller and will look for another smartphone...

What kind of device are you connecting your phone to? What phone carrier are you using (AT&T, Verizon,...)?
Downgrading was the only way I could get it to work.... and it was a long, scary road to accomplish. I had to unlock the bootloader, add SuperSU, and S-Off my phone (using the paid Sunshine method). After doing all of that I was able to use an RUU that I downloaded directly from HTC and downgrade the phone. Now, I'm running 4.4.2 again. My phone is still unlocked, s-off and has SuperSU installed. I can connect my phone to the car and I get the HTC Car app startup. But the really cool part is that with the Xposed framework I was able to re-map the home button to go back to my phone's home screen (instead of the HTC Car home screen). Now I can do anything on it while I'm driving - and it looks really cool. It was a long road to getting it working this way, but it is now pretty awesome.
Some solution thread?

Hi this sounds really cool. I was hoping that it would work out of the box....
I have a radio "Composition Media" - this is the marketing name. It was preinstalled in my VW. Unfortunately I haven't found out what the exact model name of the headunit is. I bought my phone directly from amazon.de and it has no branding. My carrier is Vodafone Germany, but i don't see how this is relevant.
Can you point me to the some thread, that describes how you managed to get it working?
Thanks a lot!

Yeah. It is pretty awesome! It isn't perfect though. One problem is that when I use the phone on the headunit, all audio must come from the phone. That means I can't just listen to the radio on the car. I must listen to audio from something on the phone. This can be problematic. Although the Mirrorlink connection requires both USB and Bluetooth, it appears that all audio is passed through the USB when Mirrorlink is active. The Mirrolink service must have a low priority. If there are too many things running on with the phone, the audio can become choppy. Now that I understand what causes the audio to be choppy, I can usually prevent the problem. Usually just rebooting the phone is enough to make it work perfect. Still, it can be annoying when it is happening.
The reason that I wondered what headunit and carrier that you have is because I only know how it works using my own devices. It is possible that the headunit in the VW works a little different than the one in my Honda Civic. I am thinking that they are probably similar enough that they should both work the same though. All of the brains for the Mirrorlink lives in the phone. The car seems to simply provide a feedback to the phone to say when it is driving. So, I am pretty sure you will be ok with your headunit. The phone carrier is important only because of how the RUU's are packaged. I used an AT&T RUU from HTC to downgrade my phone. I was 100% confident that the RUU would work with my phone's hardware because it was installed on the phone previous to me updating. I'm pretty sure that the version of Android doesn't matter too much. It is more likely that what causes the Mirrorlink to work differently is the version of HTC Sense (mine is currently 6.0) or the HTC SDK API level (mine is currently 6.17). You can find this information under settings, about, software information. If you want to try to downgrade, I think you will want to find an RUU that has a similar version of HTC Sense and HTC SDK API that I have.
Now that I have explained some of the difficulties, if you are still interested in trying to downgrade, I can write something up for you. There isn't just one thread. I used many threads for each step and asked many questions along the way. The risk is that you can do all of this and it may NOT work for you as your setup is a bit different than mine. You have to make many changes to your phone. Some could partially or completely void your phone's warranty. Some can brick your phone if done incorrectly. It is a lot of risk, but the results are pretty awesome if it works.
This might have been answered, if so please direct me to the thread. I have a HTC desire from SoftBank a japanese phone provider. I stop using softbank and have not used my phone in couple years, but was wanting to root it to just use it as a media device. The issue is every thing I find about unlocking the phone tells me to go to the phones settings to set "USB debugging", but since the phone is no longer on the providers network it wont go past a black screen with "softbank" letting. When I attach it to my computer and run "adb devices" it doesn't see any device so the USB debugging is an issue (my guess). I was wondering if there is something that will get around the issue.
any help is appreciated.
