I currently only have 500mb available. I know that most of it is in pictures and some videos. But I can't copy over the files since everytime i try to load the DCIM folder on a computer, it freezes and shows unresponding. I have tried 5 computers and same thing happens. Now I really have to make this work since I have to send the phone back since the power button barely works, and i got a replacement. (I have the Verizon version).
please help. thanks
Try an FTP app from the Play Store (I use FTPServer) and Filezilla on your computer. It works great for me and you dont even have to plug your phone in.
Or
Set up an online storage thing (box, dropbox, google drive, etc.) and upload everything to it. Then delete everything on your device.

You could try using adb to pull it. There are tons of guides for installing and using adb floating around this site, or the internet in general.
If you have access to wifi, you could try transferring the files that way. Something like Airdroid (on the market) can help with this, although there are many other apps that can achieve similar things. There is FTP (and offshoots of it) if you don't have wifi.
Another option would be to use something to sync with the cloud. Dropbox, Google Drive...etc This may not work for you, as many of these only allow you to have 5GB with the free version of their service, which it sounds like you may have surpassed. Also, depending on the speed of your internet, and the speed of the cloud service, this could take a while.
As above..
adb pull method.. it should work well
you must have installed ADB drivers and you must have ADB files e.g adb.dll and then just open terminal and navigate to right folder and use ADB command:
Example:
adb pull /sdcard/DCIM/ C:\Users\CarlosManuel\Downloads (if I remember the commands right, that should be the way to pull the DCM folder wth the files)

So, I want to connect my Nexus to my computer to put on some wallpapers, pictures, videos, etc. Thing is, whenever I connect it, and navigate to it in Windows Explorer, it seems to freeze up Windows Explorer. I managed to get my ringtones transferred over just fine, but every time I try to copy over pictures or anything else, it gets stuck on the copy process.
Additionally, it seems like access to folders and whatnot is pretty restricted... On my previous phone (the Thunderbolt), I had used MyBackupPro to back up my save data for games. The backup files were found in the app's folder, and I just copied them from the SD card to my computer so that I could put them on the Nexus. But on the Nexus, I can't seem to get in deep enough to access the MyBackupPro folder to move my backups to...
Anyone know how to fix either of these issues?
I have deleted all my pictures and videos by accident is there anyway i could recover them as i cant use a program on pc as it mounts as mtp and they dont recognize it.
i am on LiQUIDSMOOTH-v1.1-Maguro rom if that is of any help.
Thanks
Hopefully you have google plus installed with instant upload on, if you do then they're on your google account and you can get them back. If not your sol... Sorry.
You can maybe mount your sdcard and try to un delete files with a disk recovery program but its not a guarantee since it works by read data blocks that are marked as deleted aka writable.
how will i mount it as a sd card as when i plug it into pc it just sees it as mtp and cant see it with recovery programs.
and i dint set up the google plus instant upload so no way that way.
And i havent used the phone really since deleted everything so dont think anything will have been written to them parts so maybe more chance of getting them back

You can't mount it as USB Mass Storage. Its all one partition, so it can't be done. You've got MTP and PTP, that's it.
Everything is probably lost.
Set up Dropbox instant upload or Google+ instant upload for the future.
I never used this app but its worth a shot. I have used similar on a PC and it brought back files from 7 plus years ago. Tell us how it works cause these apps, while not used often are priceless and ill make not of it.

Well scratch that our phones arent supported...
For some reason, MPT suck for me becasue it wont always transfer files between phone and PC.
For example, i select all images i want on my PC and copy them just to see that they aren't all copied. Same goes for APK.
Windows Explorer also can't see some of the thumbnails on camera folder and reports them corrupt but they look and open just fine on phone.
Anyone else has these issues and possible solution?
I don't accept managing media files via adb comments or anything similar.
THanks
does MTP transfer any files at all? or will it only transfer some?
MTP can be finicky sometimes....issues i've had before preventing me from transferring properly include a slightly dirty microUSB port on the phone, where wiggling the connection loses the MTP connection while transferring; drivers not installed correctly; sometimes just rebooting both phone and PC does the trick.
If it fails while transferring a large batch of files, try moving them in small groups, like 20 at a time and see if they all make it then.
PC or MAC? (or linux?)
yeah, it transfers the files but not all of them from one directory for some reason. Sometimes ot didn't trasnfered batches of 2-3 files at the same time which is insane.
Then about an hour ago i reead on some forum that guy recommends backing up files with ADB and deleting problematic directory and than copying files back to it.
I just did that and it works as it supposed to.
Transfers all filess to/from device.
What a strange issue.
GSM GNex/Windiws7 x64
I can confirm this issue. I have it from time to time as well and it seems rebooting my phone does the trick. Sometimes, I just cannot send my titaniumbackup folder from my pc to the phone, where I would get an error saying it cannot be sent or it hasn't been sent.
I'd like to know what's causing this. Is mtp not reliable?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
MTP on the Galaxy Nexus/ICS is controlled by the MediaStore, and this can cause trouble.
General fix for this should be similar to what I outlined here.
Thanks for the tip man, i formatted my internal storage and recreated all folders again and it works as intended now.
I did this before you posted this solution.
I'll try it if i ever get this issue again (hopefully not)
Basically when I try to copy things from the SD card while using the phone in MTP, it only copys an empty folder. Files wont move at all. Is there some kind of lock? Using windows 7 and I have AOKP rom. Samsung driver is installed from: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-I747MBBATT
Lock? No. It's always finicky for me. Is it just large files, or all files?
Its all files. Also I lost my titanium backup because it turned the folder into a "file" and I couldnt change it back and deleted it before even thinking about it.
I don't know why it happened. Maybe you should learn to use adb
Edit:
Try using the 1.4.6 drivers, instead of the latest ones. They are the same ones used for the og Note, originally. Also the ones used on the S3 when it first came out. If you click on the captivate sig link in my sig, there's a link to the I717 drivers.

+1 for adb.
usb is very finicky. when copying entire folders, as you said, often the folder will transfer quickly. this will be a sure sign that no data was exchanged. sure enough, the pasted folder will be empty. oddly enough, if you drag the files within the folder one-by-one to the destination device, they will transfer. just a pain, especially if there are many files within the folder.
I know how to adb but I shouldnt need to just to transfer files.

I did but I was just saying, why should I have to use adb for something that should be as simple as drag/drop? I can't seem to find it though. I don't see previous version on the samsung site. Will it work if I just use the note driver?
edit:
Ok it is working now on the current normal driver. For some reason it was just happening hard before. Now its acting fine.
On another note, sometimes it says the HWID is invalid or something?
Yeah, that happens. Just reboot the computer and phone, seems to fix it for awhile.
Well as I read its the MTP thing that causes this? I like how it works because it doesn't stop me from using the phone while its transfering to my PC.
Anywho, thanks for the help and info.
So I connected it to my laptop to clean up some of my files and folders and to transfer some things onto my pc.
I remember deleting some folder called Mogo-Audiance or something along those lines, as well as another folder that seemed to be unimportant. I try to then move some music files from the download folder into my Music folder (transferring within the phone at this point) but it says theres some error and it can't be moved. I rebooted and replugged tried again no avail. Then tried moving a picture from phone to the computer. Error message again. Reboot once more and this time when I go into MTP only two files remain: Android and Viber. I check my phone itself and all my photos/videos/music are gone. Apps still remain intact however. I already tried Stellar Phoenix Recovery but it won't detect my phone.
Very frustrated and have no idea how to proceed.....
I attached some screenshots showing empty phone folders on pc and phone itself as well as recovery program being unable to detect phone.
Android 4.3 Jellybean-Carrier: WIND Mobile (Canada)
It cannot detect phone because it needs to Mount as USB mass storage device. No external storage= no UMS
You might be able to dump raw IMG somehow of storage and put on flash drive and try to recover... but takes lotta work.
Seems like you deleted something you shouldn't have. Take it as lesson learned to not just delete random files if you don't know what it is

I'm actually about to cry. The photos I had on there were invaluable to me, please explain that way that you said I might be able to get it back.

I'm sorry to hear that.
And also sorry to say I cannot help anymore than providing this information here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705
As I said, it is a lengthy and maybe in depth process but MAY be possible. No guarantee.
I haven't ever had to try this tho so I cannot give any more or better info other than what is in that thread.
Just take your time, use Google for things you cannot understand(you may ask me or here in this thread also for clarification of some steps and if I can help I will) and try not to stress.
And one thing I will recommend for future use is to install G+ and turn on photo sync settings. I have this on. You get 15gb free storage for photos and will backup as you take pictures and videos OR whenever you tell it to.
Or you could use dropbox or similar as that also has a photo sync option available. These things are invaluable in terms of peace of mind for if situation like this ever occurs again.
