Hi all,
started this thread for people like me that don't post much, that can't ask questions in the Dev section. Got to get my post counts up, lol! I've been a member on here from when the Samsung Moment came out, so I'm no newb to flashing rom's, etc. ' Just saying'. Been trying to flash TBOMB 5.0 from last night and can't get my phone to boot up for the life of me. It starts, hangs, then it crashes before it's completed. Yes, I did everything I needed to do. LIH firmware, Wipe caches, factory reset, re-downloaded the file (2x) even flashed to complete stock and started over(2x). Still no go. Many are having good luck with this rom, what am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance, for any info that could get me on the right track....
Anyone else needing help with this rom, you're more than welcome to use this thread for questions. :good:
That's weird. Did you reset your counter to 0 (zero) before flashing? I'm not sure if it makes a difference but you can try. I flashed over the leaked version of JB, only wiped caché and data caché. Didn't do any Factory Wipe/Reset because it was not in the instructions. You only need to Reset if you had any problems/issues with the rom. Everything works fine so far. Try those steps and see what happens. But do a nandroid before flashing.
Not to be rude, but are you waiting long enough? I remember reading in that thread after 5 was released that the boot animation was just straight black screen. That after a few minutes of nothing, it boots. Also, 5.1 was released this afternoon. Try that out.

I have been having trouble with trying to switch my lock screen wall paper. Did a dirty flash
of 5.1 over JB 5.0. But this is only on the lock screen. My home screen will change with no problems. Also for some reason I can't open the gallery app. This isn't to big of a deal as I use Quickpic but idk if they are related problems. When I try to use QP to set the wall paper it just asks me to crop the pic and that's it. I am sure I am overlooking something and would appreciate any help. Thanks

Thanks for your response. Yes, I did a counter reset when I went back to stock LI3.
DLed the 5.1 version of the rom after I posted this, flashed my phone, and now I'm good to go.
My phone didn't like something in the 5.0 version of this rom, might have been the kernel, don't think I had 2 bad downloads of this rom(5.0)......
Now I have hands on, the niceness I've been reading about. Thanks to all of you hard working Dev's, that keep our phones going by bringing us all these goodies. :good:

Been thinking the same thing while I was trying at first, but it sure wasn't my wait time. Fell asleep waiting on it around 4:30am , woke up 4 hrs later, no go, lol! Had to leave the house for a while, so I flashed back to stock LI3, so I could have my phone working... 5.1 worked, like I posted before seeing your response. Thanks for responding.
Battery Icon - Signal Icon - Date
I just flashed 5.1 over 4.3 today. Install went great, phone is dramatically faster did great on benchmark.
The issue I am having is that the signal icon, battery icon, ringer icon, time Do not show up right away on reboot. then all of a sudden it will just show up.
This actually happened on 4.3 also. If anyone has any ideas that would be great, and not to wipe and re-flash. I understand that ultimately that may be required but I am not looking at doing that right now.
Thanks.

I am not running CWM i am using TWRP. I will check that to see if I can find something. But I really have no idea what I am looking for. I am kinda new to all this stuff.
It's in TWRP also, just an fyi. Should find it easily, once in there.....
I believe fixing permissions is under "Advanced".

Yes, this rom is awesome. The only thing I'm having trouble with is wi-fi tethering. I guess with this version of JB it is not possible to run tethering. Anyone else out there?
I called sprint and added wifi hotspots for $10.00 .After they allowed it I went to system update. Updated prn and profile and it works. I hope this helped

Is anyone having issues with setting up the s voice wakeup commands? It's like the microphone is deaf. S voice works with everything else. Just not that. I'm gonna flash 5.1 as soon as it downloads. But just in case it still doesn't works, I'm asking this question.
General Jellybomb install
This might help a couple of you. I install JellyBomb 5.1 yesterday (first rom flash, yay!!) and loving it.
I used Clockwork Recovery. I installed the LIH modem (?) first as they said. Factory reset, wipe, cache and wipe richvishervi (?). Install of the rom itself couldn't have taken more than 20 mins, but I did get a boot animation (I believe it's the boot animation form the international version G3).
The only issue I had was that my google calender wouldn't sync. To get round this I deselected calender from the google account and added a account using Microsoft Exchange with my google details. That was a work around that has worked for me.
I think I also have a problem with wifi tethering but I haven't looked into it properly.
One question I will ask is; I'd like to have the lock screen that has the circular unlock feature but I'm not sure how to get it. Any help would be appreciated.
If anyone is on the fence about installing this rom, I'm VERY happy with it. It's very customizable, it fast and it has been very easy on the battery so far. Well done Josh Beach.

Exchange Account
I have an exchange account setup on this rom. Not all of my appointments are syncing over. Some are and some are not. I have my work schedule in outlook as an "all day event" but none of them are showing up. But other "all day" events are syncing over.
My gCalendar is sycing without a problem.
Anyone have any ideas???

Why? You could download Easy Tether from Play Store and use it for free. Free version doesn't let you browse the secure sites but the paid version does. It works great.

So, to give a little background, my sister got a Koodo HTC One V - the thing would connect with wifi, but could not hit the internet (tried on various networks). It would after a few days use start to reboot over and over again every minute or so. Resetting to factory settings would fix it (the rebooting, not internet access) for a few days, but then it would start over again. Koodo sent her a replacement, and it had identical problems. Koodo refunded her, but let her keep the HTC - she got herself a Samsung GII - same internet problem, no reboot issue.
Anyhow, I've got the HTC One V now, and I thought I'd see what I could do with it. I'm not at all experienced with fixing phones, but I'm tending to think it's a provider specific ROM issue where 2 phones had identical problems, and where a third phone from a different manufacturer had the same internet problems. If someone thinks otherwise, and has suggestions, I'm definitely open to suggestions. Otherwise, I'd like to try putting a custom ROM on the phone and see if that fixes the problems. So, I'm looking for suggestions as to what ROM I should try.
My priorities in picking a ROM are as follows, in order.
1. How safe the ROM is (how likely I am to not brick the phone in putting the ROM on)
2. How easy the ROM is to put on (I'm a beginner - at least when it comes to phones, not computers)
3. How easy the ROM is to use (I'll be giving the phone to my dad who has never used Android)
4. Speed
I know I'm not going to get a ROM that scores high in all those categories - those are just the things that matter to me, and how I rank them in importance.
Any suggestions? Thank you ahead of time!

Then kindly direct me to the correct forum. I click on "forum", there's immediately 5 options; General Discussion, Operating Systems, Chief Central, Swappa, and Legacy Devices, immediately followed by a big heading for HTC One, with its second item being One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting. Rather than marveling at how that could possibly bring someone to post here when they have issues with an HTC One, it would be more helpful to direct them to where they should go. Thank you.
Its marvelous because you are the closest to the right phone name...and the fact that there have been over 20 other users posting here as a result of the wrong device as well. Do a search for HTC One V and you will find the correct forum.

Thanks, that helped quite a bit. Now... I've gone through the directions, and installed a new ROM and kernel... the instructions say the first boot will take awhile - any idea how long? The phone has already been sitting for 5+ minutes. If it needs left longer, I'll leave it - otherwise, it would be nice to know I should be doing something else with it. Thanks!
Edit: A little research makes it sound like I'm in a bootloop... I'll try to take care of it myself, but if I need help, I'll come back here.
So, I gave up on the ROM I was trying, and installed CM10. It flashed just fine, but I still have no internet connection. The phone will connect with the router, I've rebooted the router, and it still connects, but no internet access. This is exactly what the phone did with the stock ROM. I'm trying to research any possible issues with CM10 - in the meantime, anyone have any ideas of what directions I should go to try and correct this?
To be clear, this is internet access over wifi - the person I'm giving the phone to will NOT be using internet over the mobile network.
I'm running Liquid Smooth 2.5 and have just found that anytime I try and use voice search the microphone icon glows as if it is recognizing but as soon as it goes to search it just errors out with "Cannot reach Google at the moment". Has anyone else encountered this and are there any suggested fixes? I found some threads of making sure the device date and time is correct. It is. Interestingly I just tried on my rooted stock N7 and same thing... Yet I also just tried on my wife's Asus TF300t and it is working properly... I've checked all google account settings I can think of and can't see anything abnormal.
Thanks in advance for any help.

What color are you signal bars? Grey = No connection to Google, Blue = Connection to Google
Try clearing data for the Google Framework
Signal bars are blue both on wifi and on data with good signal. I just tried clearing Google Services Framework... No go still unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion however.

I will try refreshing Gapps when I get a chance but the thing that has me puzzled is why my stock rooted N7 is doing the same thing. I can't help but think it is an issue with my account or something. I haven't changed any settings recently that I know of. if it was just a Gapps issue I would have thought it would be isolated to just my SGS3. It isn't likely a location issue as my Wife's tablet is working fine.... Definitely confused...
Again thanks for any and all suggestions

And all of these are connected to your WiFi?
Remove and Re-add your google account on the affected devices.
Just to try I added my wife's account into Google now and tried voice searching with her account from my N7 and it didn't work either. It works from her tablet. I think this means it is not a ROM issue but rather a settings or similar issue. I will try a Gapps refresh later to see what happens. If anyone else has experienced this regardless of whether there is a fix I'd be curious to know. if others have I may submit it to Google. if it is just a weird issue for me I'd rather try working through it.

I've been having this problem too with an HTC One on a Sense-based custom ROM, and a HTC Evo 4G LTE both stock and custom. I've found better success uninstalling the updates to the Google Search app though it's still slower than it used to be. Some more people have talked about it here... http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...-google-moment-while-online-voice-typing.html
Doesn't seem like there's much of a solution or acknowledgment by Google that there's a problem.
I fixed the issue!! On a hunch I decided to delete my Google account from the phone completely. I then booted to recovery and cleared cache and dalvik. Rebooted and added my Google account back in... it is now working as it used to. If anyone else is having the issue I would recommend trying this and see if it helps you as well.
Almost forgot but I'd really like to thank everyone who contributed ideas and thoughts!
I just verified this fixed my N7 as well!
Thanks

My impression from searches on Google's forums is that this is a fairly prevalent problem. I don't know what causes it, but I've seen it on S4s, too. I just wanted to add that, anecdotally, I tried clearing the cache (though not dalvik) and removing the Google account, to no avail; however, I found a much simpler solution:
Settings, My Device, Language and input
Change Voice recognizer from Google to something else (in my case Samsung powered by Vlingo)
(Optional) Change Voice recognizer back to Google
This resolved the issue for me, please let me know if it works for others (I don't need a thumbs-up or anything, I'm honestly just curious if it's that simple and we're making it out to be more difficult.)

Sure.
First, I'll say I'ave had this happen on other ROMS (although I don't remember which)>
I reflashed this ROM within the past two weeks. Complete wipe, and install apps from Play, not restore from TIBU, other than data for 2-3 apps. I did that because of Tasker constantly quitting. Was told to not restore it; install, and import (not restore) data. I might add that Tasker still blows up though.
I am not using custom kernel. Using the kernel that came with the ROM. I'm on LIquid Smooth 2.8.
My impression is that if I reflash, it will quite...for a while. I'd like to figure out what is causing this. Reflashing is becoming old.
So most of the ROMS you have tried said this error message. Did I understand it right?
If you can, can you produce a logcat when you get that error? I personally never done one but maybe that can shed some light on that.
I personally like doing all options possible if I have issues so have you tried going back to stock and trying to replicate this issue? If you can it sounds like a hardware issue with the microphone.

It's not on 'most' ROMS, but it has happened on others. I think I can do a logcat with one of the utilities on my phone. I've done it before at request of some other ROM owners, but then got no response after uploading it. Not sure I can tell much from it.

I'm updating all apps now. Google Search was not on the list to update, so I'm not thinking that will help....Ut-Ohhh...phone just rebooted during app upgrades.
I've been finding this phone to be a bit flaky lately. Fact is, I don't find any ROM I've tried, despite all the praises they get, to not have some issue other. If 4.3 ever gets out, stock, for this SGS3, I think I'll lay off of custom ROMS.
With regard to the microphone being bad...it works fine with Dragon, so the microphone is working.
I may restore an earlier Nandroid backup that was working and see if that works.
I'l post back how it goes.
Ok. I updated all apps, Google search wasn't one of them. It is working, except...one thing I've figure out is that now it does not work if my phone is hooked to any blue tooth device. Not sure what's up with that. I'm going to post in the ROM's Q&A thread about this and see what they say.
It's been said a few times that SELinux settings have an effect on mobile connection on some phones, not all, but some. Mine being one of them, that theory has also been criticized, ironically by those who's phones do not suffer from the issue. Anyways, if your trying a 4.4 ROM and have no APNs, no baseband, IMEI etc grab SELinux mode changer from the market, set to Permissive and be on your way. Why or what causes it is beyond me but changing to Permissive solves it. It takes a few seconds after boot for supersu permissions, a few seconds then for your APNs to be populated and baseband, after that you will get mobile connection working.
Hope this helps someone else fighting the same issues. Here's a video showing before and after, a little wait at the APN screen the second time for them to be populated. Also, sorry for the quality, just easier to record the screen directly compared to holding a camera.

Glad it was of help, just passing on what I have read and tried to make it easier to find so made a thread for it, some of us have the issue but appears the majority do not.
I had the issue initially when installed with twrp, did it once again with cwm, worked like a charm. Good info to keep in mind though.
anybody got the apk handy they can upload? flashed the latest cm nightly not knowing it was 4.4.1, and the store won't connect via wifi for whatever reason.. i'd rather not have to do a clean install to get my phone working again.
Thanks.
Nevermind, I managed to pull it from the woman's unrooted moto x. It's here if anyone else needs it..

just out of curiosity. vAre you guys having any issues with the AOSP roms slowing down the data speeds? I know people have said for a long time since GB I think that the tw roms are much faster than AOSP I never saw that on HSPA+ but I am on simple moble and they just turnrd on their LTE and my phone gets an average of 28 down and 14 up. on tw roms but on AOKP or other AOSP roms it gets 8 up and 3 down. Like the lte is not working. Anyone else have these problems?
I love you.
