Random Reboots - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I am a two week old proud owner of a GN8.0. I have a problem though. Recently, my GN8.0 has been experiencing some random reboots. I thought it might be a rouge app so I did a factory reset. To no avail!!! It's still doing the same thing. Did I buy a lemon?

For a couple of nights in a row, I've noticed that as I go to sleep (and fire up tune in radio) my device locks up and requires a hard shutdown and restart.
I've pulled logs but haven't looked at them yet, and have an older backup of the app I can restore. I don't remember whether this correlates with a Tune In update from the last few days but will be restoring an older version to see if it helps.

Mine does the same thing. Only once or twice a week and I have this thing loaded with apps (I think I have 500mb left of internal). If it did it more than that I'd be aggravated but I can deal with a once a week freeze up. I'm stock rooted with no mods other than root also.

I wouldnt call that loaded with apps. I have 26gb of apps on mine but I use foldermount to transfer the data to my microSD card. I try and keep at least 1.5gb of internal memory free as worry about stability issues if it gets reduced. I assume that apps need free space for cache etc and try to keep as much free as possible.
Only issues i've had is when im playing a game and have forgotten to take my tablet out of power saving mode. Im running my CPU under volted and underclocked.
If freeing up space on your internal storage isnt fixing your stability issues then you may have other issues. im pushing my tablet a little harder and having no problems with it.

Yeah. I did the internal - external swap on my note 2 but had issues (forget what they were but they were annoying), so I went back to normal internal and external. I also didn't like the idea that once you did the swap you were kinda stuck with it unless you wanted to redo a bunch of stuff if something were to happen to the SD. I have a class 10 64g SD card now with 57g available. Seems like a waste of space (I keep all my music on Google music) just sitting in this tablet. Maybe I'll take the internal/external swap for a spin again and see if the bugs have been worked out. OR...... Maybe Key lime Pie will bring apps 2 SD back :silly:

Just to clarify. l haven't swapped my internal and external. l just move my app data files to external via Folder Mount. That way l can still remove the micro SD if I so wish

[Q] Apps shutting down like closed with task manager

Last night I was testing out the E4GT by playing Grave Defense HD and the app kept closing once I reached a certain level of game intensity. It didn’t give me a force close error, it just disappeared like it had been killed with task manager.
I decided it was an issue with that game and tried another game I thought would be less intensive (Spinballs). The same thing started happening with that game. At a certain level of intensity, the game just disappeared from the screen. Phone sat looking back at me like nothing was wrong.
I played both of these games on my E4G without this kind of issue.
I’m not using any kind of automatic task manager or memory manager. I haven’t done any rooting type shenanigans with the phone either.
Anyone else experience anything like this?
N.O.V.A. 2 HD - which came with the phone - is causing the same symptom. Maybe I have a lemon.
I experienced this with the browser twice already, out of the blue, mobile sites, nothing intensive.
Same thing here with Grave Defense HD. Frustrating.
Thank you so much for letting me know this. Honestly. I thought I was losing my mind or had the world's worst luck. I was about to reset my phone to factory default just to see if that would clear up the issue.
It did the same to me while playing third blade
Anyone find the cause?

The browser on my original Epic 4g would randomly close out the same way, pisses me off when it happens. I'm not happy to hear about this
Ditto

Both my wife's E4GT and mine are doing the exact same thing as well. This is with Grave Defense, Fieldrunners, and Plants vs Zombies.
I continue to get this when playing any game. It doesn't look like it is related to intensity. It seems that maybe it is just after a set amount of time or something. I used the zedomax root and it still happens after root. I was also wondering if maybe some service is activating (PRL check? Firmware check? Email check?) and that kills the game for some reason.
I stayed up reading Kindle on my phone for a long time just to check it and it didn't close the Kindle app. I'm trying really hard to find a pattern.
Im thinking about deleting the stock task manager, and putting on advanced task killer. It kills my set cpu and shoots me back up to 1,200mhz. And it doesn't kill everything effectively anyways.

I don't even have an SD in my phone yet so it's unrelated to the app being on the SD card or not from the sound of it.

But the phone has an internal sd card, no?
Worked so far for me

Oh yeah I guess it does have that... everything is installed to internal memory and not the internal SD card though right? I haven't tried moving anything to SD card (external or internal)

If you uninstall the stock task man and put on a custom one can you let us all know if that fixed the random task close/exits.
Killed my task manager, installed Watchdog (which keeps stats on running tasks - made sure to whitelist GRave Defense HD so it wouldn't try to whine about it).
Still went "poof" and closed by itself in the middle of the game after it'd been running long enough and enough stuff was going on.
Verified that task manager is still not running in my applications list. So... thats not what's doing it strangely enough.
To further troubleshoot this, sound was off.
Is there a debug file or something we can have android make?
My theory was incorrect
Maybe there is a setting we need to uncheck

Looked all through the settings for "Annoyingly close programs that you are actively using without giving any errors and making you scratch your head in disbelief" but couldn't find that to turn off
On a more serious note, we're at least building up a good amount of things that it *isn't* which does in fact help

[Q] Noob Question - How to diagnose freezes

I'm running Cyanogen 7.1. About two or three weeks ago, I started getting full system freezes which require me removing the battery to get it to restart.
It only happens a couple times a week, but when it does, it comes in bunches, and I often have to pull the battery five or six times before it settles down again.
After restarting the phone, it will get as far as preparing the SD card, and the launcher icons for apps moved to the SD card will fill in in the launcher, and then within 30 seconds or so, the entire phone hangs.
I know you can't tell me what the problem is just from that, but I'd appreciate some advice about any logs or such that I can check.
Thanks
What are your CPU settings clocked at? And are those settings set on boot?

No, I haven't made any changes to the processor speed or the voltage.
Have you tried using another launcher? or clearing the data for your current launcher? back it up before you clear it.
Or try an app like SD Speed Increase? ( https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sdincrease.it )
I know this sounds crazy, but have you tried using a different ROM?
TBH, CM7 scares the crap out of me wit hall the Boot Looped phones that were running it.

+1 only aosp I run is MIUI or decks rarely because I get scared to use.it

I ended up starting from scratch and doing a clean reflash of Cyanogen. I'm assuming it had to do with me forcing all apps to the SD card, so I won't do that this time.
Good call. Not all apps can run from the SD Card. Particularly apps that have attached Widgets and native system apps.

android.process.acore is not responding

Hello,
im enjoying my HTC One X for the last 3 months with no problems so far until 2 days ago i wanted to copy some movies on the phone. before this i had aroung 7GB free on the device and the movie was @4gb.
once the copy was done my phone started to be veeeery slow and at one point showed me the "android.process.acore is not responding" error.
i have scanned the phone and didnt find any bad sectors or so. once im deleting the movie and going below the 7gb the phone is starting to act normally.
i know that a factory reset might solve the problem but i dont think this is case here since above 7gb free i didnt have any issues.
did any of you had this type of problem so far or do you know what might cause this?
Have you flashed a custom ROM or are you using it out of the box?

Whenever I get the message you got in the opening post, it means I flashed a ROM incorrectly. For out of the box I have no idea why you would get that.
Did the system update go OK? No glitches?
If you disabled some system apps from application manager enable them again
If nothing else works, try to factory reset the phone. It will delete all app data (not sd card) but will reset any change you might have made.
(Alternative, if you are rooted, clear dalvik cache partition)
This is unacceptable. It happened to me too. I've just finished copying a 4GB file and I suppose I was left with aroung 1GB free and the phone simply freezes with response times of around 30s. i.e. I touch the screen, and after 30s the command is executed.
Somewhat the internal memory is being scanned or something like that and when free space is very low, it just freezes like this.
Really? From an HTC flagship phone which costs 600€? REALLY?? I mean, they advertise it has 32GB, it doesn't, it has 25GB and you can't even put 25GB of stuff inside because it gets outerworldly slow, so you have to leave at least som 4GB free, so in the end of the day this piece of crap has 21GB usable!
Well done HTC :good:

i had this once when i flashed a rom and didnt flash the right boot image,

Moar installed .. Phone heats up oretty quick.. Anybody else?

Any suggestions?
A bit more information is going to be needed in order to help you. Did you do a clean install of the Rom ? Did you restore any Data ? What Rom where you on previously ? What Recovery are you using ? Have you tried switching Batteries to see if that is the issue ? Are you OC'ing the device ? Do you have a case on the phone ? I know it's a lot of questions. But the more information you provide the easier, and faster you can be helped.

You didn't state which kernel you are using. But if you are using KT, or dkp try lowering the voltages across the board.
TEAM MiK MikROMs Since 3/13/11
i picked the stock kernel.... another question .. i was waching the reviews of moar, and i never saw where it gave me morphology option like i saw in one the videos when you picked the kernel
Which review did you watch? Morphology isn't in the newest version because all the customization is on-the-fly in mod control.
I'm in the same boat-
Did a clean install, I think I picked the stock kernel (but did the install months ago so I don't honestly recall - how to check this?)
It actually has gotten worse for me over time.
Recently, I have had to carry an extra battery around with me, or I'm completely dead by 8 or 9pm even with extremely light use of my phone. On a recent work trip where I used my phone only marginally above-average, I went through three batteries, and had my phone plugged into my laptop for part of the day.
Several times I've noticed my phone is warm - today I took the cover off and specifically noticed it was warm just below the battery, but not (I don't believe) quite the antenna area which I believe is the very very bottom - if I hold my finger over the memory card slot, it's very warm.
I've also had my phone reboot randomly several times, and when I checked the dump logs it showed trouble accessing my memory card - and I'm thinking they are related - meaning, it's gotten warm, and the thermal issue is maybe causing difficulty in some way with the memory card not being able to be read, and the phone reboots.
I've installed GSAM battery monitor, because it provides a nice app-based view of battery usage, but nothing unusual really shows up near the top.
Any idea what's in this area of the phone that is getting warm, to help narrow up an app that's causing this?
My phone starting to act the same way too . I'm on moar also. I know it's not the Rom because I've been on it 4 a while n never had any battery drain or over heating issues. I'm guess It's just time 4 a new battery or phone. My phone gets Super hot at the bottom after like 30 min on a game using wifi n recently been getting reboots.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Free mobile app
I was getting reboots and it seemed tied to trouble reading my SD card... dump report showed it couldn't read the card, caused a reboot.
I'm going to look for the original instructions, but try turning your phone off, taking the SD card out, and leaving it out for a day and seeing if that changes anything.
I just copied the data off mine, I'm going to reformat the card using the phone since I think that was what I was told
If your are looking to reformat an SD card. SD Formatter works great. It has saved more than a few SD cards for me.

Massive lag

So I searched and couldn't find anything useful, my phone has a horrible lag! It's crippled my phone to a point where I want to throw that piece of s... out the window! It takes ages to wake up, when I write something it completely freezes and about few sec it's normal again!it's all lag across all apps, tried factory but it doesn't seem to have any effect! Yeah sure I could only run one app but what's the point! My first phone went into bootloop, this is a 604 version! Would root and a custom rom help?

Do you have activated adoptable storage? That means do you use your external SD card as internal storage?
Maybe it is your SD-Card which is corrupt
Nope I didn't do that! But when I restart the phone it feels snappier.. Or maybe it's placebo! Tried the debloater today + I uninstalled quite a lot of apps, I did help a bit
