hi
first of all i rarely quit on something, and i ( try to ) keep my hopes up even tho the odds are not exactly in my favor....strangely it worked for me on numerous occasions in the past, so im crossing my fingers one more time With this delicate matter.
My micro sd card 32 gb class 10 was bought just a little over 4 month ago ( ebay ) i downloaded the program from Google that verifies the Cards capacity, just to make sure i didnt buy a 2gb clone. After verification i mounted it in my Galaxy s3 and started its normal usage.
Im a father of 4 children, and if you have come to fatherhood/motherhood its really an age of Wonders.....if you can manage to put asside the the every day stress, constant yelling ,telling, shouting, nagging, and hair pulling you know its truly a wonderfull life
I know just like everybody else, that time goes by fast....and beeing a hobby photographer i lover to capture special moments in Our lifes, becouse face it....10 years Down the road really somethimes feel just like 2.
I have filled the card to almost 20gb of Pictures and videos of my preacious Family
the past 4 weeks my phone started to Mount / unmount the card, whenever i turned the screen on i'd see the Notification at the top left, " card was unexpectadly removed " and Mounts it back and everything was normal. 2 weeks ago it started to say " card not recognised " but after a couple of minutes, or the Next time i used the phone the card was mounted and working fine.....by then i started getting a Clue, ok i really should take a backup really soon.
2 days ago 10/06 on my birthday mind you
the card finally gave up and my phone gave me a warning that the card needed formatting. Wich i didnt do!
After the incident i googled away for solutions, everything from quick formats, datarecovery Applications, unlocking the Write protect on micro sd's and chkdsk within command prompt.
I found this thread here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355528
Talking about how he manage to recover his data ( happy for you )
Unfrortunately it didnt work for me, checkdisk couldnt perform becouse of the microsd's format beeing RAW
i tried 3 different Applications for data recovery one of them beeing zardata recovery software to no avail
i gave this one a shot : TestDisk i didnt play arround too much becouse i wanted to make minimal to no changes to the card in hopes of recovering most of the data, so i didnt really get far With this one.
i downloaded fat32 format wich stated that i might get the card to be readable again, but it didnt work becouse i got "the card is Write protected" error ( even tho there was no Lock that was on )
At this time the card is not readable by my Galaxy s3, only way is to plug it into a card reader With SH support thru usb on my Laptop and even then i get a Message telling me it needs formatting, wich i tried a couple of times after googling the correct unit allocation sizes wich i set to about 4k to get the best performance and to try to keep its standard 4k wich i presumed it was when i formatted it first time to fat32
I am aware that on some forums they mention that if the card is about to give up it goes into Write protect mode, but since i havent written anything on it since this started, i think i still have a chance.
About 10 years ago, i had my hdd crash on me....a friend of mine helped me recover my data using Linux to read the raw data......anything out there that does the same job ?
I also appreciate a step by step guide for the TestDisk program from http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
The Cards size is approx 30mb at the moment, there are no visible marks, scratches or cracks on it.
Please before you answer me, think of any.....really ANY solution that might help me get my data back, i dont want to give up on this yet.
I thought if anything else fails ill send it off to some data recovery center and get the data that way.
Thank you for beeing patient and Reading thru this, have a Nice day

Another gigantic OP that I couldn't be bothered to read. You may have done this already, but I wouldn't know because I'm not going to fully read that big post, lol. Remove all data from the card and then format the thing. Replace data and try again.
Don't use that "testdisk" program/site. Flash cards/SSDs only have so many reads/writes before they die off. Defragging or performing read/write tests on flash media is not good for the longevity of the medium.

Hi guys,
Bought a SD card from the bay and it arrived all good and well but after a few days started crashing my phone as i didn't know what it was i sent my phone to HTC got it re-flashed by them and sent back put the SC card back in then i got the message of copy written card , Which was odd , got past that now so now its accepting files but very slowly Currently transferring 4.04GB @ 81KB/s According to windows but its going to take an estimated 15 hrs , Its been transferring for 1 Hr now and no where near finished , Any ideas Its a FAT32 card , I try format it to NTSC but wont format there just hangs then the phone reformats it to Fat32
Any ideas to speed it up ?
It can only be FAT32. Run a hard drive benchmark like CrystalDisk Mark and see what speeds you get. Make sure you at least run the sequential test. Sounds like you really got a dodgey card though.

You should really run h2testw. Flash memory cards from eBay are often fakes, so make sure you test it out so you don't miss out on a refund.
EDIT: "...the bay..." -- I'm guessing you meant eBay? Either way, you ought to test it.

yeah you got it right mate , Yeah ill run some benches i think it is a fake as i got an email sent to me via ebay saying i had been involved in fraudulent activity's , so i passed it off as the card was working then ,
But yeah just passed 4GB over to it , From last night at about 10 PM To Now 8.50AM its still got 7 Hrs remaining ,
How do you transfer? Cardreader? usb cable?
I read that some older cardreaders having problems with SDhc cards bigger than 16 gb. It's for those readers that connect via usb.
Greetz sweet
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Hi yeah I've been transferring through my phone via USB although I just baought a card reader off eBay, going to try that
Update on bench, I was useing Otto bench what I used for my ssd and it just wouldn't work, seems the ssd is just far too slow

Yeah, try running the test. It might takes ages, but it is the only proper way to find out if you've been sold a fake card. Most of the times you won't have to run the whole test as it might start picking up fake memory locations after the 2GB or 4GB mark, so anything after that will be fake too.
Also noticed when i plug it into the pc , through the phone i get the scan and fix , from windows so just done that and tried to recover any bad sectors might help then ill go through and bench it again but like i said earlier it just didn't start and then the program wouldn't respond

Recovering any lost sectors wouldn't help if the card is fake.
A fake card is one where they make the card in such a way so that it appears as some X size, however in fact it is physically it will be only 2/4/Y GB big and the rest is just faked through some kind of trickery. No method will give you those lost GB, as they physically are not even there (can't make something out of nothing, right).
Anyway, good luck with the test.
What happened to popping to the shops? /sigh at the digital age. I don't get why people buy such garbage on eBay because quite a few times this week I have seen people buy stuff from eBay and it's been fake.
Quick update thanks for all the advice guys , but i think i have resolved my problem the phone was slowing my transfers down ,
so i went to ebay and got a SD to USB for 11P and its transferring much faster now brought the time down from 12 Hrs to transfer 4 GB to 1 Hr to transfer 5 GB Which is Brilliant !
I have been having a problem lately with my SD card.
When the phone boots up sometimes it fails to recognise the apps installed on the card.
The media scanner stalls at 0% when this happens.
Also I can still access the files on the card through a file explorer.
After messing with it & then letting the phone cool down, it is working now.
But I wanted to know if this was likely the card or the phone?
My first thought was that the card is going out.
I am running SRF 1.1.1 on EC05 modem
BTW: the card is a stock 16GB about 11 months old
I've started having issues with my SD cards lately. My stock 16gb fell off the map. Doesn't even get recognized as a solidstate device when I connect it up to my ubuntu desktop (kernel logs state "waiting for drive to spin up"... its SD...). Bought a new class10 16gb uSD, after a few weeks it got the 'card not recognized', didn't get recognized in windows or linux either. Ended up formatting it. Now I run My Sync Center and sync often to keep the SD card backed up.

Thanks for help. Sounds like a format may help more than a new card.
BTW: did the class 10 card make a noticable difference?
Every Card has its plus or minus, the more you flash etc, the more you abuse it. I had a 16 gb class 4 and I am a machine in trying something new or adapting and changing....so. I have had it for over a year, just upgraded to 32 gb class 10 and you can see the difference. I am not saying jump the gun and go get what I have. Whatever makes you happy, there are articles that explain all that about sd cards.
As far as it being a Rom issue, possibility. No Pointing Fingers, just take into consideration alot of things before you ask or point at one thing. Things Happen.
Save Data do not copy the rom once downloaded transfer directly and give that a whirl. Look at all you have flashed and done since you have had your card and how long have you had it. How many times did you take it out? How much have you downloaded and taken/cleared off the card? No different than a pc, its all in that little hard disk!!! I am not asking, just take all that into consideration.
Window shop with Patience if you decide to get a card, and look for a deal.
Hope this helps.......just another one of everyones Helpful Friends and XDA!!

Thanks, you bring up some good points I realy had not considered.
I put my existing card in the sd slot of my laptop & scanned it for errors & bad sectors. It reported errors found & possible data loss. Total capacity is down by 1GB now. Most likely my fault, I remember a few ROM related issues that wound up in a reflash (a couple of times within a week), tried running without the journaling on. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! Anyway, thinking about it this started about when that freeze up caused the ROM break down. I might need to replace it since it has sectors breaking down. Card does seem to work ok since I run the repair scan.
Thanks again for the advise.

If the card is seated securely and you are getting those errors sounds like a defective card.
Have you tried a low level format?
Have you tried other phones, devices?
If so do you get errors on those also?
Have you run any test on the card itself. Are you sure you are not mistaking issues with the new SD card permissions (or lack there of) for errors?
Those are some of the steps I suggest to figure out if the card is bad right out of the box, yes this happens a lot more than you think it does, or that card don't play nice with device this still happens even though it should not, or the card is on its way out. If nothing seems to be working try and get a replacement that should fix your issues and if it don't, don't buy that kind of card anymore

I have never had a issue with SanDisk but is the luck or unlucky of the draw[emoji1]
Formatting many times is no good for SD cards should really only format when you HAVE TO. There is really no need to format reformat... Usually after some time of using the card you can get back some lost performance by performing a low level format. But again really should only do that when you NEED to.
I have the Pro version (the Grey and more expensive one) Samsung card you have listed, I love it as far as performance and what not but I use it quite often for various devices not only in the N4, but for many people an expensive high capacity high performance card will be pretty much a waste (at least until root comes our way). Many people can survive on the devices memory alone, if I had to I totalaly could without any issues. Most things are streamed/synced/cloud and whatnot so there is no need to have a large amount of things stored on a SD specially when you take into consideration the new android sdcard permissions. Only system apps can even write to the card, no normal apps can.
This may change down the road hopefully, Google will be persuaded into changing that policy, or at least once we have root we can make our own rules.
Unfortunately Android has the stigma of being the "Least Secure Mobile OS" and I think Google is going to move in the direction trying to rectify this. That is going to be unfortunate for us I believe, because technically the statement that Android is the least secure of the mobile os's at this time is true. If the user knows nothing about computers, software, Linux and whatnot then yes this is true. But for many of the same reasons Android is considered vulnerable are the reasons the advanced user loves Android. Unfortunately I think many of these things are going to change and the advanced users will be stuck with solutions to problems we never had in the first place because the vast majority of people need there hand held in everything they do. LOL sorry about the rant but above that is my 2 cents of your card question.

I had the same problem with my Note4. I suspect this to be the cause of my recent problems with IndexService.
The last days I noticed an extreme batterydrainage. (50% in 4 hrs only cheching mail and reeding some ebook and newspaper) 44% usage by IndexService and 17% by screen.
At first i thought it was my Next UI . Deleted it . No changes.
Then I found out about similar issues on S5 and note 3 to be caused by corrupt pdf files. I deleted all documents, pictures, ... everything! Nothing changed.
i took out the SDcard. The same or even worse. Keeps the phone checking for SDcard when none installed?
So I reconnected the SDcard and formatted it again. STILL NO CHANGES.
Suggestions anyone?

no and i agree with you regarding your rant.. it's just sad there is no recognition for the hardcore base user group.
So i think i'm gonna bite the bullet and buy the pro... I've done some more research and it seems that specifically the Ultra 64gb sandisk card manufactured a year or later ago has a technical 'fault' according to sandisk. i don't care for another sandisk so i'm gonna just buy the pro...
although i feel exhaustd with sandisk.. there is a 64gb extreme sandisk microsd ...
how is the quality of the extreme cards compared to the samsung pro?

I had issues with my 64g SanDisk ultra when I got my note 4. Worked fine in my note 2 until I moved it to my note 4. Then I started to get the SD card unexpectedly removed, constantly remounting. Formatted it in the phone in the computer nothing worked. Couldn't even copy back the stuff that was on it. Purchased a PNY 4k compatible micro sd and it works great. I will never get another SanDisk.
Hi folks of XDA! I am in a bit of a pickle right now with my micro SD card that I purchased a while back from ADATA.
Long story short, I purchased a 64GB micro SD card from ADATA due to my needs of a little more storage than what this phone offered. I ended up using the micro SD card as adoptable storage as I wanted to be able to use both my internal and micro SD card for 'everything'. It worked great until the night before I was suppose to go on a cruise: music wasn't being downloaded as it said it had insufficient storage space, and I couldn't take pictures with the camera app because it couldn't find the storage. I got frustrated as it was showing I had over half of the storage available on my SD card and I just did not have time to meddle with this problem; it was late at night and I simply needed my phone for taking pictures & videos & music.
I ended up doing a 'no no' and ripped the micro SD card out of my HTC One M9 without formatting or anything (literally just popped it out of my phone), restarted the phone, and surprisingly nothing was corrupted; everything on my phone was still working. But not surprisingly, the micro SD card got a little weird where when I put it back into my phone, it did not recognize it and my phone wanted me to format the micro SD card. Fair enough. I did that and it said it could not be formatted ("Volume partition disk: 179,32 public' failed..."). Fair enough.
I went onto my Windows 10 PC, slotted my micro SD card into the adapter that it came with, slid the little notch away from the 'lock' on the adapter, and my computer says it needs formatting. I try formatting it but all it keeps saying is that it's 'write protected'.
I slid the notch on the adapter to the lock, and away, as well as kept it in the middle; nothing helped, it kept saying it was write protected no matter which part it was on.
I tried using scotch tape to cover it as some people on the internet found it to work when their slid mechanism broke. Still did not work.
Tried using another adapter, and it still said it's write protected.
Resorted to using the DiskPart technique via CMD; everything shows up, the micro SD card status is online and disk 1, 58GB, 0 free space.
Tried going further into the steps (i.e. "attribute disk clear readonly" & another way, "select partition"), and it says it could not be recognized due to fatal error of hardware.
Would anyone happen to be in this situation before and was able to get their micro SD card fixed or knows a fix for me? I'll be happy to give you more in-depth detail if needed. Thank you!
Moomoomania
Did you figure it out? I've had similar issue. I had to insert and remove multiple times until my PC recognized it... I think when I booked to Linux it worked though.
That sounds to me like the SD card is toast. I think it's built into the cards themselves that if the controller is going, it goes into read-only mode so that you can get your data off of it. I had an SD card bite it the first day I owned it a few years ago in a camera. I would use either a Linux VirtualBox or Linux Live Disc to copy your data to your computer and buy a new card.

Fortunately everything important like photos were already backed up into the cloud and my micro SD card has life time warranty so I guess I'll have to end up using it. AHHH cost of shipping & time from my impatience with removing the micro SD card. My hunch is that the encryption that occurred when I used the micro SD card as an adoptable storage may have ultimately screwed it up... ://
If anyone have any clues to how to fix the problem or would like me to try things with it, feel free to post a reply

I've tried using Linux but it's not working.
I'm having Two SD-cards collecting the dust as yours .
Please reply if you find any solution for revering those adoptable sd-cards back to working.
Thank U....
The nature of solid state memory is that any errors causes a complete failure. You will never recover the sd card. Return it to the manufacturer for a replacement.

Please reply if you find any solution for revering those adoptable sd-cards back to working.
Thank U....

Hey! Sorry for the late reply (school exams) but mine is still collecting dust and will be probably forever. For the price that I've paid (~$30), it's not worth to replace and it's better if I just purchased a new SD card. Time + effort to get a new one is far too great for me to care about getting a replacement.

Oh I see. Fortunately for me right now, I am not using a custom ROM. I've been sticking to stock HTC and will proceed to do so until HTC stops giving out updates. I am not quite sure what you could do except try to manage with the 32GB like me by deleting all unnecessary apps, putting all your photos and videos into Google photo, and caching music that you find yourself listening to the most these days. So far it has been working well for me to the point where I don't find it necessary to have an SD card anymore! Perhaps it's a different case for you.
Hey fellas,
This is very strange. I used my phone for a couple of days prior to rooting, I listened to a couple audio books and a fair amount of music. After I rooted the device, now my phone thinks the SD card is getting removed and plugged back in every couple of seconds. I cant even copy a 5mb mp3 file off of it before halfway through it will get unmounted (and then remounted). Any ideas? I have taken the card out, put it in two machines, formatted it, checked it for errors on both and neither computer has a hard time with it....
I am getting quite frustrated here...
Well does anybody at least have any suggestions to where I can start to look for whats going on? I am in the process of wiping my device and starting over

This has been a problem with a lot of S8+ for quite a while. If you Google it you will find blogs and chatboards with loads of information on the problem back to around June of this year. Seems like Samsung doesn't really care about it looking at the conversations going on. They know about the problem but haven't made any fixes for it.
My S8+ does this occasionally also. I have to remove the sdcard and reseat it in the holder and put it back into the phone. I saw several posts of using a older/slower card. I got an older 32gb type 6 card and it worked MUCH better than my class 10 cards.
I also have the problem of my computers not being able to moves files to or from my phone related to the sd card problem. This has happened before and after rooting my phone.
I know this isn't much of an answer, but resetting your phone back to stock isn't going to fix it. We need Samsung to do something to repair the problem. Good luck.
Take care,
