Hello everyone,
I just bought an unlocked t989 and try to use the 3g data with att ( i have the $50 unlimited all gophone) i already try the wap.cingular and the isp.cingular APNS but only get 3g icon and mms sending/receiving capability but can't connect to web, already try the *#*#.... code and select the 850 wcdma band, i don't know what can i do to get it working, when i connect on gsm only (edge) everythings works
please, any help is appreciated
thanks in advance
i have one of these for my gf who is on att im wondering how to get it working as well... any info will be appreciated. thanks!
I was going to do the same as well, until multiple managers of various AT&T stores that I went to all told me that prepaid data plans will ONLY work with AT&T's prepaid phones. In other words, even if you were to buy a AT&T Galaxy S2, and try to use it with their Prepaid GoPhone data plan, you still would not have any internet at all. Hope this helps!

Hmm, really? That's interesting. I personally have only tried it with a Sony phone myself which I put my prepaid go-phone sim card into, however it did not work. Im thinking this could be due to the fact that my sim card is really old and outdated, not too sure though.
If you can access edge on your T989 though, it should also be able to access the 3G network supposedly. Our T989's DO have the correct bands for AT&T's 3G, right?
Pretty sure you have to flash a skyrocket modem. Only then will it activate the correct radio bands.

Thru clockwork or Odin, search for thread title works in att 3g, you can get modems on a sticky here somewhere, I don't think you had to play with the band

Hi all,
Been modding my s3 on t mobile for a while. Moved to washington, and t mobile has no service in about 10 miles of where I am. Att has full 4g here, so I unlocked it and got the sim for their go phone plan. Had to put in the proper apn, but have data working fine now. Unfortunately, some t mobile processes keep telling me that my sim is "invalid". It's annoying. Can I flash a custom att rom, and if so, can I use the modem flash as well, or do I need to avoid flashing the att modems?
I'm running the d2tmo frosty jellybean V11.6 currently.
Thanks

I have a Galaxy S III from AT&T. I got it unlocked and activated on T-Mobile last month.
Now, I went a month on AT&T roms, but recently I flashed SlimBean, which is dual carrier. My phone immediately connected to LTE! Never had I seen LTE on TM's network on this phone before, so I take that to mean I need to run T-Mobile ROMs to get LTE service.
So just now I tried to flash BeanStalk for d2tmo, but it won't let me install it because, of course, it's not made for this phone. From what I have read, though, it should work fine on my phone. How do I override this failsafe so I can run T-Mobile roms on my AT&T gs3?
"You do this with 7-Zip/WinRAR
Note: DO NOT EXTRACT ROM!
Open the zip file, do not extract, go to:
/META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
1)Open updater-script with a script editor such as notepad/notepad++ (makes things 10x easier), or gedit if you use linux
2)Delete the first line of code (all the way up to the first semicolon you see) and delete the first semi-colon as well
Do not go past the first semiclon when deleteing and DO NOT forget to delete the first semicolon."
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You'll want to delete the highlighted text in the updater-script, then save it. You shouldn't run into anymore problems or errors when flashing the ROM.

And the Rom won't give you LTE. Most T999 roms will show 4g, but look in settings for your true connection. You probably had it all along.

Well I had LTE / GSM / WCDMA selected in the settings on CyanogenMod for the I747 and it wasn't connecting to LTE. Only HSPA+. So either it's the ROM, or T-Mobile launched their LTE network here at the same time I flashed SlimBean.
I'm running stock i747 and I get Lte all over Chicagoland. I'm rooted now, but I got it before I rooted too. I'm using the stock 4.1.1 that came with the phone, picked it up for $180 a few days ago...Wow this thing is awesome.
Thinking about going with Dandroid tomorrow...still deciding att or T-Mobile version.

Please do let me know! When I was running the AT&T roms, I had "Simple Mobile", "StraightTalk", and "T-Mobile". I tested and all of them worked, but just connected to HSPA+.
Now that I've installed a T-Mobile rom I am also getting "Solavei" and "T-Mobile LTE." When I select T-Mobile LTE, my phone connects to the LTE network. When I have the regular T-Mobile option selected it doesn't connect to data at all.
EDIT: I am testing again, and I actually can connect to HSPA+ on the regular T-Mobile APN. Let me walk around and see if I can make it connect to LTE. Then I'm going to flash an AT&T rom and try to get it to connect to the LTE network by manually adding the APN. I'll let you know how it goes.
Can the APNs determine what type of network you connect to?
I'm just curious what APN settings you're using to connect to LTE on the AT&T rom.
Okay, here's another update as the result of some testing with my T-Mobile rom:
When I switch to the "T-Mobile US" (no LTE) APN, I noticed that my data cut in and out sort of randomly. I speculate that the reason for this is because it was trying to connect to the LTE network but couldn't get data on it because my APN was set incorrectly. This is what confused be before. I switched the data mode to GSM / WCDMA preferred and it immediately connected to data, and was consistent.
So I think if I just add the T-Mobile US LTE APN to an AT&T rom, it should connect to LTE properly?
A long time ago when I was just on the T-Mobile US APN on an AT&T rom, it was doing the same thing with being inconsistent with the data connection until I disabled LTE so it stopped trying to connect. I'll take the fact that it tried to connect but couldn't as enough evidence that it knows how, it just needs the APN.
Yay figuring things out! Sorry if my words are confusing or I maybe I should have made a new thread for this. I'm new here, and I'm not sure how this kind of things work.
Thanks for the help in figuring that out!
Sorry about the sidetrack, I'll work on getting 4.3 next, and let you know how that goes.
Here's what I've got

Is it under sprint? Can it be rooted and install a custom rom?
Sent from my SM-N900T
Yes. I own a Virgin Mobile S3. I am currently running CM11 and a custom kernel (DKP) built for the Sprint S3.
Virgin Mobile S3 model #: SPH-L710
Sprint S3 model #: SPH-L710
Virgin Mobile use Sprint towers for service. I have 4G where I am and it's fast. Coverage isn't the best in multiple areas I travel to, but it's Sprint.
They do use a "backdoor", so to speak, to get to the Sprint network, so you can flash a .zip in recovery that a dev on another forum made to alter some APN and build.prop settings to allow you to have full access to the Virgin Mobile network when on a custom ROM.
Long story short, when you flash a d2lte ROM on your VM S3, it perceives itself to be a Sprint S3. If you need the zip to flash, I can direct you there.
Hey guys, since T-Mobile has unlocked bootloader, are you guys able to flash other carriers roms like at&t?
I'm only asking because im on an AT&T model, but eventually want to flash T-Mobile roms once our bootloader is unlocked for wifi calling.

It would require some tweaking, but in the base idea, yes, they're all the same (with different radios and likely different kernels). You'll want to just wait a little bit and have devs port to the other models. However, your goal of getting wifi calling likely won't work. Maybe I've been out of the loop, but last I checked the app registers your phone number with the T-Mobile network so it knows where to forward calls/texts to. So it more than likely won't work for AT&T/Verizon. I believe Sprint has it now, but same method.

hi sorry, i left out a big important detail. I'm on t-mobile lol. so it would work for me. This is my first lg phone, and i've been on many other phones where we can easily cross flash carriers without the need of porting the roms. I was under the impression that the at&t model was slightly different? i should revisit that again just to be sure.
I was hoping if there was any hard evidence or experience that someone did flash an at&t rom without any hiccups. That'll mean we can do it vice versa.
Thanks for the info.
On other phones this has been possible, I would wait for a definite answer, or make sure you have a backup ready just in case you do try it...
I am on Verizon and I was also wondering if I can flash a T-mobile rom without the risk of an hard brick. I can take the risk of a SW brick.
Why would you want to do this
I'd be careful, there are probably significant differences, you can't use a vz phone on tmo network.

I'm pretty certain that all Vzw phones come unlocked and can be used on t-mobile. Might not get all the bands to work correctly, but will still work.
Vz runs a cdma network for voice and data, t-mobile runs gsm. Some phones can do both, eg Verizon's world phones, but by no means all of them. YMMV

If it is 4g it should be a "world" phone.
Here's the details: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-6991
While the G3 isn't listed, the G2 is so I would assume it will work.
I have flashed a Verizon rom on my T-Mobile phone and almost everything worked fine. You'll need to adjust the apn and delete Bluetooth apn as it fc. The OP stated that he will most likely make a patch to fix the problems
