I just took my Incredible 2 for a swim in the pool and it is currently drying in a bag of rice. Hopefully it survives, but if not - that would give me an excuse to ditch it early. My Verizon contract doesn't end until November, but at that point I'm looking at leaving and heading to T-Mobile. If I end up having to get a new phone, I'd like to just get an S4 instead of a pathetic temporary one - that way when I switch to T-Mobile, I've already got my phone. I've done some searching and it looks like the Verizon S III can run on T-Mobile, but I found nothing for the S4...
Would it be possible for the T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S4 to work on Verizon's network? Network speed isn't an issue for me.
No, this is a gsm phone, it will not work on cdma networks
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Verizon S4 has secondary radio that works with GSM. That's why it works on T-Mobile and AT&T. T-Mobile does not have secondary radio let alone ones that supports CDMA. This is why T-Mobile will never work on Verizon network.

Thanks for that extra info and a reason why. I think I'm going to let the phone sit for a few days while I contemplate whether or not to drop Verizon with an ETF and head to T-MO or not... It's tempting.
I just took my Verizon Note 2 over to T-Mobile a week ago. I'm in the Denver Metro and had nothing but problems with the Verizon phone on the network. I popped in a T-M SIM card and while voice was fine, at home I jumped back and forth between edge and H+ and at work, I was stuck with nothing but edge. I called and was told that not all the T-M towers are setup to take non-TM branded phones at this point. Long story short, I went and got a T-M S4 and it's working fine, although the T-M coverage leaves a bit to be desired for a large metro area. Hopefully LTE, when the switch gets thrown here, will help some.
The Verizon Note 2 doesn't support AWS band. Thats why it's jumping between E and H+ all the time. The H+ is actually 1900mhz that it's locking on to. You need a phone that has the 1700mhz AWS band to connect to H+ reliably.

Question:
I'm getting mixed reports all over the blogs/forums/irc about the TMobile SGS3 isn't working as what it was first reported it to be.
I haven't seen that yet, or even posted, here on xda...
So, has anyone tried to have a TMo S3 with a AT&T sim? I use both TMo Straight Talk and AT&T Straight Talk, and I travel a lot. I swap sim on my GNex depending on the network and to where i'm at.
S3 is my next new toy, and based on AnandTech.com's reviews of the TMo, he did say it will work on both AT&T's HSPA+ and TMo's HSPA+. I just want to know if this was true in real time users, such as the community.
I just don't want to dip my $600+ on a phone when it might not even work, based on the consensus.
THANKS!!
Why didn't you get the ATT version?

If I had to GUESS, I'd say NO. I've only seen 1 device that would work on both networks using 4G - but it did require a flash.. It would only do 1 or the other at a time. (NOTE: THIS IS ONLY A GUESS AT THIS STAGE)
I have a GS3 from T-mobile, though I have not unlocked it yet, and I have access to a AT&T Straight talk sim, so I can absolutely test it, when I get unlocked.
You probably just have to SIM unlock the SGS3 and then it will work.
Sent from my phone. Prepare for atrocious Swype typos.
It would work if you unlocked it. How ever they only have 2 of the same frequencies for 3g 850 and 1900. T-Mobile has 1700 and AT&T has 2100. So your service would suffer in certain locations. Galaxy S III for T-Mobile doesn't support LTE so you wouldn't get True 4G coverage.
works fine on my unlocked Tmo GS3 with ATT SIM, HSPA+ all day long, no LTE of course.
Hey guys! I brought my international GT-N7105 Note II LTE model from Asia and bought that unlimited cheap 30 dollar plan. I checked the towers and my area does have those refarmed 1900MHz towers from their twitter. Anyhow, first i just thought it was my house and I have drove from pasadena-los angeles - Irvine - Orange County and have yet to see ANY 3G/H/H+ signals! Always stuck on the E (2G). First I thought it was the SIM problem so I put that SIM to an iPHONE4 and guess what?! There is the T-Mobile 3G right on that upper left hand corner and speeds are decent. Anywhere from 1.5mbps-6mbps. I'm sure it can go higher but looking at that dinky screen is already enough for my eyes! Is there some specific settings I should be doing? Somehow it's NOT locking to the 3G towers from my N7105. I am planning to get Straight Talk's 45 dollar deal at Walmart and choose the ATT since it's got better coverage from what I hear. Thanks for the help in advance and Happy Holidays everybody!!!
I don't think the 7105 has 1900 band, I have 7100 and I get 3G coverage.

Thanks for the reply but according to this: http://www.smartone.com/jsp/phone/english/detail_v12.jsp?id=2553
It should have 1900MHz just like the N7100 except there's LTE which won't work. There's absolutely no excuse for it NOT to have 3G! This stinks and is frustrating!
I see that it has 1900 band but under GSM, when looking at 3G bands it has HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100 - N7105 vs N7100 having HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
Dont know if it makes any difference but thats why I steered away from the LTE version.
Try this go into service mode: *#197328640# Debug screen Phone Control Network Control & Band Selection. Check if you can enable or see if you have the 1900 band under WCDMA. Might have to go under Combi Bands and select the desired bands.
Just flowing up if it worked out for u or not?

Bumping this since the op didn't respond. I am having the same trouble and I attempted the fix you provided and found that my N7105 lacks the "combi bands"
I mistakenly purchased this phone for pre-paid here in America (should have gotten the n7100) and it seems that Straight Talk doesn't have AT&T cards anymore and I'm stuck on T-Mobile's EDGE service
I have the verizon model and use it with tmobile
So the last two weeks have been the most frustratying and nerve racking weeks ever as I have tried to get tmobile service to work well with the verizon model i have. And although I am definately still irritated, i have to say that I do get 3G and HSDPA on mine, just not anywhere near my house. This has driven me crazy and until today I assumed it was my phone and the lack of certain bands howev er after purchasing a Tmobile 4G hotspot and activating it on a new 300mb plan just to see how well it works, I have found that it was never my phone that sucked at my hopuse, its Tmobiles service that sucks!. BUT... to get the best consistant coverage with the Tmobile sim in my Verizon model I did have to experiment with the APNs quite a bit, and I also upgraded the modem to the newest one released . For anyone tryinbg to do thius with the verizon model, make sure your APN for T-Mobile US or T-Mobile Data (I personally have started using it as T-Mobile Data) has "None" typed in for the username and for APN if your using LTE device type in "fast.tmobile.com" instead of the epc.tmobile...... or whatever it is. Does anyone know if flashing a modem or radio or even just the rom from the tmobile section would help at all? Or would it just **** up the phone..
Despite not getting 3g (since I lack the appropriate physical antenna apparently) I get way better cover with T-Mobile (through Straight Talk) I have to say compared to Verizon. Maybe my Note 2 is much better than my old Thunderbolt or maybe T-Mobile is just a bit better. Nevertheless every building at my university is made of reinforced concrete so you'd be hard pressed to get any reception in the classrooms. I find in places I had no service I have service, and places I had some service I have great service now.
Back on topic though:
I can get the 1900mhz through GSM but that isn't the same and my phone lacks whatever that Combi Bands thing is. So I don't know if it is a lost cause or not. I just figured I'd bring this back up since the OP never responded and I am in the same boat as they are (were?). Maybe a solution can be found or just "it ain't gonna work."
Just following up I have returned my N7105 in favor of a N7100 and get great H+ and 3G through T-Mobile/Straight Talk.

Fwiw, net10 is basically the same as straight talk. When you buy the $15 simcard pack from bestbuy for net10, it comes with 3 different sim cards in it. One of them is a micro sim that fits in the note2 and runs on at&t's network.

I would like to use my T-Mobile Galaxy S3 on Straight Talk on the AT&T network. I'm currently using Solavei running under T-Mobile's network, but T-Mobile isn't cutting it in my area. I really want to run on the AT&T network. Solavei only runs on TMO.
TMO is great when I can get 4G but it sucks when others in the same physical location can get AT&T to 4G and TMO is E or G network.
Examples of where AT&T is working great but TMO isn't are: up in the canyons (Millcreek, SLC, Utah), over the dunes at the beach (Topsail, NC), at my house (SLC, UT).
Questions:
1. Can I do this? Run a T-Mobile Galaxy S3 on Straight Talk on the AT&T network?
2. If so, If I buy a sim from Straight Talk what does it take to make sure it runs on the AT&T network and not on TMO? I'd really hate to go through all that and still end up on TMO and not AT&T. I've already had an AT&T sim running in my Galaxy S3 and everything was working great. I just didn't want to pay AT&T prices.
3. I've heard that Straight Talk will switch from TMO to AT&T depending on what area on the country you live in. Is this true? Is there anyway to override this?
4. I've heard that you can't buy AT&T sims anymore from Straight Talk. There seems to be a market now for AT&T sims that were available at the beginning of the year but are not now.
PS: I'm trying to do this for the TMO Note 2 also.
Yeah you can use tmobile's straight talk on at&t network. Just pop in sim and select roaming and available network select at&t. Should connect no problem

You have to SIM unlock your phone first as it won't take an at&t SIM out of the gate - either call T-Mobile for the code or you can follow this method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2023709
Note that if you are the latest radio (MD5), you will have to downgrade it to LJC or LJA for the radio unlock option to appear - the radio images can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880987
That trick works on the Note 2 as well, however, I don't know if the radio is an issue with the Note 2 you will have to check the Note 2 forum but chances are if Samsung updated it, you will have to downgrade the radio to get the option back.
StraightTalk will not sell you a SIM for at&t if you don't have at&t service in the area - at&t's StraightTalk SIM does not roam on T-Mobile except rarely as at&t's roaming agreement with T-Mobile is extremely limited.
One final thing, I wish you good luck. StraightTalk was a horrible experience for me and at&t throttles you like nobody's business. On the plus side though, Tracfone's wholesale contract with at&t means that you get access to their POSTPAID network which means you get better coverage than at&t's own prepaid or any other MVNO of at&t for that matter.

This is not what the OP was asking. He wants to switch his T-Mobile branded S3 with T-Mobile branded service to StraightTalk using an at&t SIM and service.
I moved to Charlottesville, VA recently and the Tmobile coverage is really awful. Is it possible to take my rooted Tmobile Note 3 and use it on the Verizon network? I know it works on AT&T as I put my buddy's SIM card in and was able to connect to the network, but Verizon has the best coverage out here.
If I have to flash a new ROM or change the radio that's fine, I just need to know how to do it and if it's even possible.

It is impssible to use a T-Mobile phone on a Verizon network. T-Mobile and AT&T run on the GSM type of network and Verizon and I believe Sprint run on CDMA which aren't capatible. It doesn't matter if you are rooted or not.

I've seen several instances of Verizon customers using their Note 3 on Tmobile. Just thought it might go the other way.
Verizon LTE devices come SIM unlocked for legal reasons (Verizon made a deal with the FCC not to SIM lock their devices in exchange for being able to use LTE Band 13 700 MHz).
Some of their older/"first-gen" LTE devices don't support GSM at all (e.g. Galaxy Nexus). But all nowadays do. The Galaxy S4 and newer support T-Mobile's LTE band. LTE is a GSM-based technology, and people travel as well. So pretty much all of their phones are GSM-enabled nowadays. Same for Sprint (except their phones will reject any US carrier SIMs specifically).
Anyways, the answer is no. AT&T and T-Mobile devices don't have CDMA enabled. And even if they did, Verizon and Sprint don't allow competitors' phones onto their networks.
Hi,
I am thinking about moving my Galaxy S4 and moto RAZR from Verizon wireless to iwireless (a t-mobile affiliate). I understand that I need to unlock my phone but I am unable to find out if I move it to iwireless if I will still have 4G data. The iwireless sales rep said that I will still have voice and 2.5G service but couldn't tell me if I would still have 4G.
I was looking at this table I found on a site explaining how to unlock the phone but I don't know enough about the subject to make an informed decision.
Samsung Galaxy S4
Can someone confirm whether or not my Verizon S4 or RAZR can be unlocked to work with the iwireless/t-mobile 4G network?

It seems as though your grasp of the subject is strong enough to know that it might work as you'd like - and it might not. You need to call back and ask to speak to a CSR that actually knows what bands their service works on so they can give you accurate information. That's kind of their job...
Also -
Verizon LTE operates on Band 13 while T-Mob operates on Band 17, both of which carry completely different spectrums; this means no LTE on either of your unlocked phones. There's a slim possibility that you will get intermittent 3G but the most likely scenario is that you will get talk, text and 2G / 2.5G only.
Band 17? My Verizon branded S4 is getting T-Mobile LTE. I'm fairly sure its on band 4.
T-mobile is band 4 which is 1700/2100 mhz. The Verizon s4 is not capable of 1700mhz. But if you are getting 4G it may be because your area is using 2100 mhz. I am specifically moving to iwireless and I was told they use the 1700 mhz band.

Yes, I think all Verizon LTE capable phones are unlocked.
The I545 (Verizon S4) can receive LTE on band 4. T-Mobile serves LTE on band 4. The coincidence works well.

I just need to get some clarification from you guys. Are your VZW phones bought in the US and being in the US on t-mobile's or iwireless's 4g network. Because after I made the first post I went to the phone unlocking place in my local mall and talked to there techs, they said that the VZW S4 will not get 4g. I have also been doing extensive searches online and keep finding half saying it will work and half saying it won't. I have a feeling that the ones that work are working outside of the US as I found posts saying as such.
I read some where that the razr you had to flash the radio FW to get GSM to work properly.

I got my vzw S4 off craigslist but 99% sure it was purchased in the USA. I'm on T-Mobile's $50/mo plan.
Verizon's LTE phones are sim unlocked due to an agreement with the FCC when vzw purchased some bandwidth.
I think there was an update around 03/2014 that enabled band 4 on the I545. Then had to make some apn changes and tell the modem to use gsm/lte on band 4.
The one quirk I have is it will say "no service" after a reboot and until I make or receive a voice call. Then I get the "T-Mobile" instead of "no service" and things work as they should.

I was just at iwireless today and tested my phone with their network and was unable to get it to work. iwireless is a t-mobile affiliate but they do not use 4G LTE in my area. Their system runs on a 3.8G 1700MHz which the VZW S4 does not have. I am told that they will be starting to switch all the 2G radios in the area to 4G LTE later this year, which should work with my VZW S4. So I am just going to have to wait till the end of the year and go back and test it again.

That phone was before VZW bought the band 4 spectrum and cut the deal with the FCC. All VZW LTE phones are SIM unlocked. Any AWS capable VZW phone is SIM unlocked and can use LTE on band 4. The S4 got it with an update last year.
I am probably going to do the $30 plan soon and plan to use my VZW S4. I am not going to port my number right away in case the service in my area sucks (doubtful, live in DFW in dense surburbia).
I went out off town this weekend and went to a t-mobile store and was able to get 4g service after adding the correct APN. But it is too bad that iwireless that is in my area does not use that band yet, they are staring to upgrade to that band later this year. Until then my s4 will only get edge service.

With the announcement of the T Mobile $100 2 line unlimited everything, I'm also interested in bringing my Verizon S4 MDK boot loader phone to T Mobile, but want to do my research first-- is it as simple as signing up for T Mobile and getting one of their SIMs and then-- would I be able to flash any of the ROMs in the S4 T Mobile Dev forum or is the T Mobile S4 a completely different device? Any caveats? Would I have to LokiDoki after the flash? Would I need to flash a T Mobile specific radio too (currently on i545vrufnk1)? Or is that all just overcomplicating things? Would i be able to just adjust the APNs on my current ROM after inserting a T Mobile SIM?
