Hello,
I want to flash a JB rom that has tethering working, as I need it for my tablet to have access to the net (doesn't have a 3G module).
My average usage is texting, calling (obviously :laugh, a little bit browsing and maybe playing a game.
These roms caught my attention:
VJ CM10.1 | Jelly Bean 4.2.2 - v6.3 Stock/Sense/Data++
PARANOIDANDROID v3.56 | HALO 8 | PIE (this is awesome but no tethering, right?)
MIUI V5 3.5.10 Jelly Bean v6.2 | Soft-Nav | Multi-lang
Some notes:
I am not such a fan of MIUI roms, but if it's stable I'd give it a try
I do have a class 10 SDHC of 8GBs with 1GB of ext4 partition
Which one of the above do you recommend as a rom for daily usage?
Thank you for your time!
Can't you just use Gingerbread?
Why use an older version of android when JB is so good? :/
Anyhow, I was using Gingerbread with "Runnymede AIO V6.0.4.3 SE" for a long time and I got tired of sense and the problem with the space (having an ext partition).
generally GB roms are much more stable for desire, as the hardware is so old.

JB doesn't offer that much advantage is this is all you really want. GB will do it just fine, likely with more stability. having the latest version of android just for the sake of it isn't that necessary for your use.
test those JB roms for internet tethering if that is also your priority. check the OP to see if it works in principle, search each thread for recent reviews of tethering. actual testing yourself is always the best way seeing if it's best for your needs
with regards to low space on runnymede, I highly doubt the space issue was entirely the fault of the rom. you may have been on wrong hboot, or your ext partition may have simply been full. 1GB can fill up quite easily with apks and dalvik depending on the script and.how many apps you have/need.
I will look into GB roms, as well.
I've only tested VJ CM10.1 | Jelly Bean 4.2.2 - v6.3 Stock/Sense/Data++ currently, tethering works just fine! Everything seems to be working fine, except the LED notification (for which there is a fix but it's for v6.2 and I'm not sure I should flash it). Generally, it's really smooth
Regarding low space on runnymede, I had the stock hboot and the ext partition had about 400 or 600MB free. The problem is that dalvik was still at the internal memory with the script that was recommended by the dev (the time I installed it).

Hello ppl, i recently got a desire for uhh, 100 bucks
and now i see that this device has lot of ROMs.
(i'm now doing the roots and installing the recoverys)
I was looking for something simple, because this is for my brother and he is not such a geek, i just want a rom that does not have freezes or reboots, that works smooth
Does the ICS ROMs already stable or i should go for GB?
thanks ppl!
CM7 no questions asked.
Make sure to S-OFF and flash cm7 hboot to get the most space for apps
used CM7 a long time, but the ROM i used the longest is InsertCoin v1.1.4 on Stock HBOOT.
It's fast and stable, just had one issue in over 6 months which could be resolved by flashing a kernel without two way call recording.
Cyanogenmod, or Oxygen which is more barebones. Or stock Sense ROMs should be stable also. Personally I dont care for sense that much.
ICS is not stable, there are still some issues that need to be ironed out.
Stick to GB, I would recommend any of Roalex's roms, they're fantastic, even his ICS rom, which from my experience is the Best ICS rom on the desire at the moment.
Thank you everybody, now i gonna try your suggestions!
I really also liked Roalex's updated Oxygen, but it has one problem, if you move an app to sd, you can't move it back to the phone. This is using the standard apps to sd function of android. Roalexe's Cyanogen based GB rom has this issue also. I also had to restore apn's from a backup to get 3g working on the CM version. So they might not be as rock solid as original cm or oxygen.
I'm used MildWild V-4.0 Based on Oxygen 2.3.2 for about 2 to 3 months, I didnt faced single issue. This was my best ROM I have used..
Hi, I would tend to say Mildwild based on oxygen too. It is very stable. Mildwild CM is also nice but last version has bugs.
First, I would say, that it's ur choice.
Everybody says Oxygen is quiet good, but in my opinion, it's very ugly.
So CM will be nice, too. But u have to choose by ur self which rom is better 4 u.
The Gingerbread (Android 2.3.7) version of MIUI_Au (v. 2.1.13, which you will have to google as newcomers are stupidly barred from posting outside links) is also very stable, fast, and quite aesthetically pleasing, so you might want to give it a go.
Dont want to seem like a broken record but this is my post on another thread.
I know it's still in beta but Im using ICS .10.1 by Sandvold, very stable, no issues with the mass of apps I have installed and battery is great, better than stock I find. The ROM is fast and responsive again better than stock. Tried a few GB roms and sense roms but this is the best so far.
For various reasons I have gone back to these ICS roms, battery life, BSOD's and FC's. I've tried Runny roms and MUIU though still have serious issues on my phone. Running the current rom I could pretty much not update or change it and would be happy with it. Very stable, smooth and no BSOD's since latest update. Worth considering IMO.
Insetcoin is great, I'm on that ROM very long and its smooth and stable.
People claiming ICS ROM's at the moment are the most stable are seriously brain damaged..
3 biggest issues with all of them = broken video recording, no usb tethering, sluggish (unless you use only few apps and dont need a dalvik 2 ext scripts)
Also the "Full HWA" is still a hack.
I'm not saying they are bad, but they cannot be considered as "most stable" by any means.
The most stable ROM's by now, are the AOSP ones based on Gingerbread. (CM7, Oxygen etc.)
Ok maybe they are not "eye candy" out of the box, but if you spend some time to theme it then you'll be surprised, and you actually dont need Sense or ICS ROM's to achieve it.
Some examples. http://mycolorscreen.com/popular/
Hi,
I've been using mildwild V4.0 oxygen since it is out and I'm very pleased with it.
It is stable and fast. Sometimes I miss some sense functions like rolling numbers when setting the alarm clock. But when i use a sense rom, i realize how fast mildwild really is
The best is to try some Roms. Everybody has his own preferences.
I suggest mildwild v4.0 oxygen too
Runnymede AIO V6.0.4.3 Special Edition or MildWild CM 4.8
If you want ICS, BCM 3.7U0 but of course it's not the most stable ROM but I'm telling you this ROM is great although it says your sd-ext must be less than 1.5Gb but I'm using it with 2Gb sd-ext 4 on a class 4, 16 Gb sd card with no problem at all. Trust me on these if not the most stable only because of the usb tethering and 15fps video recording, this ROM is the most performance sucker I ever had my benchmark on quadrant advance is 1708 with this ROM and I didn't even overclock my cpu but on a stable gb ROM my benchmark was 998 with the same app.let me point out that I have 132 apps installed on the ICS but I only had 87 apps on the gb ROM.
And with mods I have made it too look like this:
I might be a new XDA-Developers user but it doesn't mean that I'm new to using its stuff, it only means that I have been dumb enough to just use and never comment!!
Hope I could Help

MildWild V4, based on Oxygen
The title of thread says it all. What JB based rom is best for now, for everyday usage, if any? I'm using seb's AIO 6.1.1. and I'm very satisfied, but now I would like to try something newer. Than you.
Jelly Bean and Everyday Use doesn't come in pair, for now.
Unless you're fine with glitchy camera, broken camcorder, not working flash, 3G/GPS issues, not working USB tethering / wifi hotspot.
Obviously it doesn't have Butter either, which is main JB improvement.

vijendrahs's miui jelly bean rom seems very stable. the only issue I have faced, you should activate the a2sd script.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850436
I think you should try and decide for yourself. Many of the JB roms seem to be based on Nikez roms. Nikez has got a matrix of what is working and not working in his web site.
I used Nikez for some time. I liked it. It has got its plus and minus. I loved the soft keys(my keys have started acting up). GB does not have soft keys. But I missed the status bar toggles especially the 2G/3G. I had to switch because for some reason I could not restore nandroids. It doesnt seem to happen to everybody. And of course the constant wiping, installing and setting up tired me out finally.
i use paranoid Android hybrid 2.20, modified a little by myself with int4ext, smooth and stable.camera preview kind of work. customMTD repart system 220mb ,so i have more data.

I use since yesterday [ROM/4.1.2] [Oct 19 2012] CM10 | Jelly Bean 4.1.2 - v1.0. This Rom ist fantastic:good:. There are some little Bugs but this is 1.0.
Update should come...
How about for the CDMA version of the Desire? Any recommendations?

I like very much the JB:CM10:HYBRID, which is based on evervolv with CM10 settings and paranoid android mode.
I find it as stable as Nikez (it is based on the same code anyway) and it is updated every few days.
Any new suggestion now?

For daily work I'm using PARANOIDANDROID v3.10b2
very stable, no soft reboots for me
I use the slim Rom 1.0. This is indeed Android 4.1.2 but this Rom is stable so far. My Problem is the Softreboot after deinstalling app (not always).
This has many features. I love this :fingers-crossed:

Lucky boy!..but on the log it's written that a lot of stuff aren't working.."Stock camera, preview is tearing, open "recents" and tap on camera and it should be fine
Stock videocam is choppy
Tethering
SMS Quick-reply shortcuts might cause reboots
Long-press home doesn't work"
is it true or not?
For me AOKP VJ 4.2.2 Jelly Bean v2.1 is the best and fast stable ROM that i've tried!
The only issue is with FB app: i cannot post a photo from gallery

Fully agree with that recommendation.
Furthermore I would gladly refer VJ CM10.1 | Jelly Bean 4.2.2 - v6.0 Stock/Sense/Data++ to be worth y try :good:
- Permanent solution for Soft Reboots (No more temporary solution)
- Improved Hardware Acceleration
RSK Xperience 4.2.2 smooth + nice themes

Are there differences in terms of speed between the two rom ?
Hi,
Due to annoying low memory issue of the Stock ROM, I am planning to update my desire to custom ROM, and thinking to put a JB rom. So far I have searched and looked through CM10 JB and AOKP JB. can someone point out what is the difference between these two and also if there is any other suggestions for the best stable JB rom that I can install as my first custom ROM.
Also i hope these roms support using the SD-ext / SD card to profile large memory size for installing applications, so I don't run into low memory issues often which is the case now with STOCK ROM.
I've currently rooted the device with CWM recovery, S-ON and stock Hboot .
On sd-card partition, what is the recommended sd-ext size to go for, 1/1.5GB , and why it can't be set to 2G or above, any specific reason. In one of the thread I have read the sd-ext partition size is also linked with internal memory , can someone please explain that.
Thank you for your support.

Those three words don't mingle together.
As you don't seem too tech savvy, and this is your first time with custom rom, I suggest you look further.

Hi,
as far as i know there still not exist a bugfree JB rom for our device [Desire].
You can try a Gb rom. The best one is very relative term. For me the the best one is Cronmod with very good battery life (daily normal use up to 2 days.) huge internal memory (INTEXT+ 1Gb) fast and smoot and so on...
good luck.
Hello!
I use this custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945441
It's very smooth and looks stable + have built in a2sd script + very good support + up do date!
Try it if you want!
You'll be a little disappointed, because JB ROMs tend to be as large as stock HTC Sense, and you will run into space issues even when using some apps-to-sdext scheme.
the only stable JB rom is qiss me rom : http://tw.qiss.mobi/download_software.php?mod=en
others have stability issues mainly with camera and video and not very stable to be used as daily rom
MIUI JB
I can recommend MIUI JB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1850436
On storage: several apps installed (no games) and 150 MB free (out of 500). 2.91 GB free on USB storage. With A2SD storage should not be an issue.
Very stable and fast (certainly compared to ICS). I don't install Facebook as it seems to slow down all the other apps. Therefore I have installed Facebook Lite, loads very quickly!
I have an issue with mobile data (to be clear: not WiFi) but this can be due to my provider (Belgium).
Hi there,
I know, some of you will tell "search", but I am reading, reading, reading... and I can't find rom which according to comments:
- is stable and has no bugs (battery drain, videocam etc.)
- is possibly fastest and smoothest
- is light (no unneeded features)
- is able to install any app on SD card
- JB would be pleasent, but ICS and GB are also acceptable, with Sense or not, doesnt matter.
Can you recommend something? I just want to install it and forget that I have rooted phone.
Thankyou in advance and greetings.

Jb and ics roms will have bugs they are still a working progress, if you want something stable stick with gb I would recommend mildwild its fast stable

Check out the rom I'm using. It's very fast and stable.
Cronmode 2.xx (current 2.1) for Desire, ICS (int2ext, swap, light trebuchet launcher, few apps, working camcorder, themes, 3g, wifi tether, usb tether etc.), my daily rom since november 2012. You can also give a try to marius.a ICS rom, is still in progress but dev is improving it at the moment, u can even ask him
Thanks a lot, I will try it. Is there also some alternative with Sense (any version)?
There is an ICS with Sense 4.1 - CoolDroid Revolution v 9.0 but I cannot recommend is for daily using. In my opinion is very unstable, and most of functions are partialy either not working When you want a sense 3.5 or lower you gonna have to use GB roms like that one from RSK team.
Cool Droid V3. Fastest Sense ROM i ever tried.

Hello I wasn't exactly sure where to post this thread so mods if this is the wrong section feel free to move it :good:
My aunt has a HTC Wildfire S v2.3.5 and I wanted to install the Viber app on it but that requires v2.3.6 or higher.
I can't officially update the phone, latest update was v2.3.5 so what are my options at this point? Are there any stable custom roms for the Wildfire S?
It depends on what you consider "stable". I consider stable a phone decent in every day use. In my opinion, considering the phone age and the generally increased app size, I think this can't be considered anymore a daily usage phone in anyway, not even with the stock rom. But if by stable you consider a rom without bugs, there are a lot of roms from which you can choose!
You can check these roms:
CyanogenMod 10.1 [by OWL PROJECT]
CyanogenMod 11.0 [08032015]
MIUI v4 - 2.8.10
But again, the phone has around 100/200MB free space after any rom is flashed. So if you update all the apps already included in the rom and gapps, you already filled the free space. I consider any SD internal size increaser script as unstable, as you'd still need some internal space to make it work correctly. So your only way to do this in my opinion is to flash any rom (they are all pretty much stable) but to just have the app you want and nothing else. The WFS sadly is very limited nowaday.
I'm using my WFS as a daily until I get my One back from service, I flashed CM 11 but even if the ROM is okay the phone is not usable at all, everything I do is really really really slow because as you install more than 2 apps you have to use a script to increase the internal memory! I've been using CM 10.1 a lot before but the size of the apps were a lot smaller, Google Play Services didn't weight 100MB and everything was working better.
