[Q] TWRP 2.4.1.0 backup amount smaller? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

So the other day, I found my S3 to have apps crashing all over the place... nothing had changed prior to this, I literally just picked it up and saw avast anti-virus had crashed, and continued to do so, as did the stock browser and so on (still have absolutely no clue what caused this in the first place). I figured I'd just reboot....except then it wouldn't proceed past the s3 splash screen (thankfully I can still boot into recovery or download modes).
Had to wait to get a SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card (SDSDQU-064G-AFFP-A) delivered, as I had a lot to backup via the TWRP 2.4.1.0. However it lists the following under backup device:
System (387MB)
Data (1755MB)
Boot (10MB)
Recovery (10MB)
Cache (85MB)
This comes to 2247MB, but I know I have around 20-22GB on the internal storage.... I ran the backup and that's all it's reporting as having backed up. I need to really get my phone back up and running, but I'd rather not loose any photos or anything else on the internal storage.
Also, while I'd love to just copy files via usb, none of the computers I currently have access to can properly install the Samsung usb driver... it's rather frustrating, as I spent many hours attempting to get it to work last night.
*edit*
Figured it out (yay lots of googling!), doesn't backup the DCIM folder and such. Copying that over to the external sd card manually...though so far not even a hint of blue on the progress bar and it's been 10min...

I often find myself too lazy to dig out my USB cable. So I start the FTP server (FTPDroidPro (ie Pure-FTPd) because it has root access) on my phone and my computer is the client. You don't need cables.
Update TWRP.
Wipe data/factory reset (need TWRP user to confirm, but CWM does not wipe intsd when you use this option). Stock recovery WILL wipe your internal sd.
Install rom again.
Copy pictures to computer. I've said it more times than I can count, but I'll do it again. Always have a backup of important files. Pictures cannot be replaced. Perhaps invest in some Dropbox space. Then use the Dropbox app to automatically upload pictures you take. I think GDrive is cheaper. But you need G+ to autoupload there. You can send manually, but you have to remember to do it. I suppose Carbonite Mobile would work. Carbonite is a good service, but their apps have always sucked. Windows, mobile, etc.

Thought this would be a good place to mention it, but when copying the dcim folder check the thumbnails file inside it first. Mine often gets up to 10gb in size! More than the actual photos!
Anyone know why it does this?

Backed up stuff and manually copied over what I could to the external sd card. Wiped cache/dalvik factory reset, flashed cm 10.1 and gapps..... rebooted....still stuck at s3/cm splash screen. What do I do now?

Take out the battery, and tell me what the sticker on the inside of the battery compartment says.

MODEL; SGH-T999
FCC ID: A3LSGHT999
RATED: 3.8V 1025mA
After that is the IMEI number and serial number.
I know I downloaded the proper cm for the galaxy s3 under t-mobile (http://get.cm/?device=d2tmo).
If I have to wipe the internal memory/format then that's what I'll do... gotta get this back up and running sooner than later.

Did you update TWRP?

That's the one thing I hadn't done. I'll have to grab the update, and look up how to do that while in recovery mode.

Nope...updated and re-did all the steps... still stuck at the s3 logo splash screen.
I presume formatting is in order?

You did a factory reset and reflashed the rom?

Yes and yes.

Salvage your data and Odin root66. Unsure what the problem is, unless your ROM download was corrupted.

Can't imagine the download being corrupted, nothing seemed amiss. I presume I am to follow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30386309, but just need to find the bootlink files for tmobile instead? Will there be any issues with the fact that I can't get the samsung usb drivers to install on this laptop (no matter what I do, it's always shown as not having the driver required in the device manager, code 28), when running Odin?

You don't need that guide, pretend you didn't see it.

Ok, I'll ignore it then. I'm on Windows 7. I have the exact same problem with an old XP machine. Drivers report installation is successful, but once it's plugged in, drivers are either not found and/or weren't installed right. I've tried installing them in safemode, with no difference.

1) Plug phone into computer.
2a) In the control panel, uninstall Kies and SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones.
2b) In the Device Manager, right click > Uninstall the phone device. Check the delete drivers box if it is there. Rescan for hardware changes.
3) Repeat step 2b until the phone shows up as "Android".
4) Unplug phone from the computer.
5) Install these: http://db.tt/nugwjVWT
6) Plug phone in - if still not working, it's an issue with your phone's micro USB port, your cable, your USB port, or your Windows installation.

Issues with USB devices/drivers are usually a pain to fix, but let's try this:
I uploaded an extracted driver package for you, here: http://db.tt/As7SW9sy
Uninstall the drivers (and Kies) from the control panel. Then, when you plug in your phone, go into the device manager, right click the phone (should be pinged), select Uninstall and check delete the driver software for this device.
Then Action > Scan for hardware changes - phone should come up unrecognized (if it's recognized, repeat above step until it no longer does). Right click > update driver > point it to the extracted contents of above zip file.

I'm starting to suspect the cable. It's not the original one, but I had to use another micro usb cable as my cat decided to chew on the other one until it fell apart. Haven't had an issue with charging, but it may be the cause with the PC to phone connection.
Did all the steps but:

Looks like I'll have to postpone this until tomorrow afternoon, and see if I can't utilize another neighbor's computer, one which has never had problems with the PC to phone connection (and I only hope that stays true with this current cable).

[Q] Cascading FCs, Whitescreen, and Half-Opening Apps

In the last few days I've had a cascading series of issues with my Evo, and things keep popping up. Can anyone help me figure out what may be going on?
It began with my phone "losing" the SD card in the middle of daily use. Eventually I formatted the SD card and put my backed up files on it, and everything seemed fine.
I had been experimenting with Go Launcher, and wanted to return to Launcher Pro, so I flashed my themed update - built off of Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo themed Launcher Pro. I've flashed this a number of times with no issues, but this time - nothing happens.
So I DL Launcher pro from the Market, THEN flash Launcher Pro. All I get is the stock Launcher Pro, no matter what I do. So I go poking.
I find out that my /Data folder is completely empty - despite the fact that the themed update puts com.fede.launcher.apk into /Data/Data/App. But there's NOTHING in /Data, and no subfolders.
Finally, I reboot into recovery and run "fix apk ui mismatches", but the recovery hangs up right after saying it's done doing that. I have to pull the battery, and when I reboot, I get perma-stuck at the Whitescreen.
So I Battery out/in, and go into recovery, re-run fix apk ui mismatches, and this time it goes smoothly. Except that when it reboots, I get cascatding apk FCs immediately.
So I go to Nand, and every Nand I flash just gives me a whitescreen.
Finally, I load the PC36IMG.zip onto my sd card, but before I hit "update" (which UNROOTED my phone last time I did that, but at least restored it), I decide to reflash the Rom I've been using.
Reflash, reboot, everything looks peachy. Reflash all the other stuff I normally flash (which includes no new files that I haven't regularly used before, and no new Kernels), and then get to trying to use the phone normally.
Now here's the thing: all my recent data is still there. But on about half of the apps I try to run (including XDA, Gmail, Internet, and Dolphin HD) it begins to open and then immediately closes.
Does anyone have any idea what may be going on, and what I can do?
Thanks.

On the surface, two things come to mind : Virus and bad RAM. Make no mistake about it, I'm only speculating. If you don't mind, can you flash one of the stock roms and see if you have the same problems? You can download one from here: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/ If you still have those issues using a stock rom, then it's safe to assume a hardware problem (bad RAM is my guess). If you find that those problem disappear with the stock rom then I would start from scratch when reinstalling RLS 5 and that includes reflashing the radios. I wouldn't leave anything to chance.
OK, I'm DLing one of the stock ROMs you linked to. I notice they're all .exe files. How do I go about this?

Do NOT install or run the .exe after you finish downloading. I have not noticed that they were executables. Let me find another link for you for a 3.70 RUU zip.
Here you go: http://www.mediafire.com/?t7u904lm502vl7l
OK, that seems to let me run things normally. So I guess I'll assume that all the .zips on my SD card were corrupt and begin downloading/flashing new everything.
Weird, how Stock looks fresh and new since it's been so long since I've used it.
Thanks DJ!
Not sure if this is still part of the problem, or what.
I flashed the Warm TwoPointTwo themed Launcher Pro update, but it doesn't show up anywhere, and when I go to /Data, there's nothing in the folder at all.

Have you tried using adb push instead?
If you're flashing it and it's not installing into the data/app folder then it's possible it's not actually being flashed properly.
I could send you a launcherpro apk that I use (the most recent one) but it has some lingering themeing effects in it.
You could use it for troubleshooting as far as installing goes. I have installed it myself many times. LMK.
Thing is, my /Data folder is completely empty. Is that right?
Additionally, it's an update that I've flashed before without issue - so why would it stop flashing correctly?
Come to think of it, I HAVE tried adb pushing it - it still shows up as empty in /data

It sounds like you are looking in the wrong data folder. It's possible.
Can you take a screenshot of the directory you are looking in with some sort of visual indication of the directorys actual location in the structure?

This is everything right above /data, at the same folder level as /system. /data is the next entry listed right below /d. Opening up the update.zip, it drops the .apk in /data/app

Assuming that what you say is true (that your /data folder is empty) then the next logical explanation is that your data partition is jacked.
That in itself is amazing because if that is the case it's a wonder that your phone is even operating at all.
Have you tried formatting your partitions (boot, system, data) and reinstalling another rom (preferrably "stock like" rooted roms that don't use any type of sd scripts [a2sd])?
I haven't tried formatting Data, no....I assume I can do that from Recovery or HBoot?
Flashing the stock ROM that dougjamal linked me restored the functionality of my phone - and I think a2sd is optional on Warm, and I haven't set that up.

Get a hold of calkulins "format all" zip and flash that.
If you flashed a stock rom and it restored your functionality then the possibility exists that the stock rom restored your data partition.
a2sd is not the only possible cause of your problems. Basically anything that moves system files to the sdcard has the potential of messing up your system which is why i don't use any of them anymore. The dalvik2cache script is another possibility. It doesn't move the files to the sdcard but it does move the dalvikcache out of its default location and app makers don't take into account all the modifications that can be done to the devices (really they shouldn't have to anyways) and so will always install extra files to their respective default locations.
If you need more space I suggest going the route of reallocating the partition amounts over moving everything to your sdcard.

You're very welcome, my friend. I'm glad you got it up and running. In regard to how the stock rom looks, lol, I can believe it. I would definitely feel the same way since I rooted and flashed Myn's RLS 3 days after purchasing my EVO...laughing...Anyway, take care and enjoy your day.

Result?

I just noticed your toolbar at the top of the image.
I am assuming (from memory) that you are using astro to view that folder.
If that is the case, astro is your first problem because it can't properly access and show the system files.
You would need to use root explorer to view the data folder. It is a paid app but you get what you pay for.
If you don't want to pay for it you can use terminal emulator and run these commands.
su<enter>
cd data<enter>
ls
After those commands you should have a list
backup, tombstones, system, agent, wimax, dalvik-cache, drm, property, etc.
You should see in that list "app".
Do the command
cd app<enter>
After that command you should see a whole bunch of "com.xxx" filenames. Those are your user installed apps.
Report your results.
LOL!!
Well, every now and again, it is good to be reminded that I'm a moron.
I didn't even think to question whether or not Astro could view that directory, as I remembered viewing it on my phone before.....now I'm realizing that I viewed /data with Ninjamorph. Here's my screenie.

accidentally deleted photo viewing app

ok, for FINAL FANTASY 3 android, I have been struggling for over two weeks to get this thing to work on my phone. My most common error was lack of space on my phone. I've gone through deleting apps trying to make enough room for it, but it wont install.
XPERIA PLAY has 300mb of internal memory (which is CRAP!). I have a 32gig micro SD card (mostly for games), but there's always the APK file (which is usually a couple megabytes) which installs the game, then the SD card content which goes onto the SD card.
I've been able to free up about 191mb on my phone, but it still wouldn't install. After two weeks of failed attempts to download an .APK file, I decided to buy it. Turns out, it looks like it's 172mb.
Anyway, I bought it...but I'm having difficulty installing it.

apparently it is 172 mb. I only had like 100MB free...so I just went through deleting ANY apps I could to get 191mb free...but it still wont install!
So, I'll keep working on this and hopefully I can get it working. I'm getting a refund and I'll keep trying with standard APK files.
After checking a couple things, I looked up APPS I could delete (note; I have a rooted phone), and so using ROOT EXPLORER, I googled some apps pre-installed on the phone which were safe to delete to free up more space. Somehow, I deleted som'n which allows me to view pictures. So, the image below (not mine..I just googled it)
I use that "music/image/video" widget thingy a lot for images..but it doesn't respond. If I use root explorer to get to my images...the error pops up that there are no suitable apps to view the image with. I tried to download a free app for image viewing..but they wont work.
I feel like an idiot...but does anyone have the .APK file I need for viewing images (preferably the one that comes with Xperia play). Or, does anyone have a link for all the default apk's that come with Xperia play (like a back up copy). Stupid me, I didn't back up my APK's and I don't know what I deleted which is dis-allowing the photo's from viewing.
Thanks in advance.

Unzip the folder
Install the app using a file manager
Drag "com.sonyericsson.xxxxxx" to Android/Data
I don't know what to do with the properties file, find it out yourself
BTW, who's the hot chick in your picture?
if you had read the whole thread he said its not his phone he googled the picture

The picture is a google image I randomly looked up that had the screen shot I was looking for
Thanks for the file . I tried to install the APK file and got an error
so when I try to install it...it immediately says "there is a problem parsing the package".

what firmware are you using, that problem happens when the app is for newer firmwares and the user is using an old firmware ,have you tried forcing the app in system then apps then reboot ?

Edit. sorry I didnt look at your name nina and didnt notice the girl gamer
I'm still using GINGERBREAD 2.3.2.
I've tried multiple times to use PC companion
to update the phone (at first, to IceCream Sandwich, but I heard that SONY isn't releasing a firmware update for Xperia play. Then when I heard JellyBean was released, I tried to upgrade again. The problem is, Sony PC Companion wont connect to the phone.
Xperia play has two form of connecting to a computer. 1 is "media storage mode" and 2 is "media transfer mode". Storage is for accessing the MICRO SD card and transfer mode is for the PC companion upgrade etc.
I'd like another way to upgrade it, but I dunno how.
have you got the correct drivers installed otherwise it will not detect your xperia play ?
Shaun27
I have uninstalled and re-install the program multiple times. In fact, this last year since I've had an xperia play, I've never been able to get the phone to connect to the program. Tried different USB ports + different USB cables. Even brought my phone to a friends' place who has an xperia play who updated his phone, and my phone wouldn't connect.
The drivers are NOT the program (pc companion)
You need to install it to make the computer able to communicate with the phone

I think she is saying her freind has the correct drivers but it still didnt work.Have you used flashtool before if so you can flash the newer firmware you require but if you really only need the gallery app then I wouldnt mess about with updating because 2.3.3 is probably the most stable for playing games . you can install the gallery app just post a thread on here asking for the stock gallery app from the 2.3.3 firmware
edit ,your on 2.3.2 the same as me at the moment I have just tried installing the apk sunjay posted and I get the same error so you defiantly need the 2.3.2 gallery apk then it will install .
two quick and small updates;
I was able to find a gallery app which basically does the same thing. It's not exactly what I was hoping for...but i'll get by with it now.
secondly, someone recommended me an app called link2sd (which admittedly I didn't expect to work).
Installed link2sd. There's a feature in there where you can control install location (internal or external)
I selected external, and launched final fantasy 3 ask to install it, and it installed in seconds. It's now downloading the 170mb...
this looks promising!
I was going to say just install one from the play store ,i think there is one called 3d gallery thats very similar
NEW ISSUE (note; thanks you guys for your feedback on the previous one)
I installed Xperia CWM Auto-installer (mostly because I have never experienced booting up my phone in recover mode...so I thought this would do it...it didn't!)
I selected the "install cwm" button which installed with a checkmark. I then clicked on the "reboot into recovery" button.
Now, every time I turn my phone off, and plug it in to charge the battery, it turns itself back on.
If I turn my phone off without being plugged in, it stays off. But when it's plugged in, it'll turn itself back on.
I've even turned it off and waited a couple minutes, then plugged it in (to charge it) and within seconds the "sony xperia" logo appears and it turns on.
i've uninstalled and re-installed and uninstalled this app a couple times and tried to make it stop, but it keeps re-booting every time I plug it in to charge. In my experience, I make sure I don't have it plugged in all night/over night to preserve the battery. I try and charge it every other night and I prefer to have the phone turned off for the recharge. I don't want the phone ON all the time. And I don't want the phone turned on overnight (plugged in charging).
Any feedback please?
From just looking at that picture you've got the wrong phone model selected it should be r800

Issue resolved; I installed this and it seemed to fix everything

USB Problem

So, I just got my Galaxy S3 and after going to the beginner rooting thread and downloading the root kit and installing the drivers, I had some problems. Now, when I plug my phone into my computer, sometimes it says the hardware ID can't be found, then when i plug it in, it will be found but will take a while to let me explore it then other times it will act as normal. But, when I try to move files around or create new files on my internal or external SD card, it says that it's not there or it's stopped responding even though I can look around in the files.
Try this for the hardware id

I was told not to install KIES because it would interfere with ODIN. Maybe that was just for the purposes or rooting it.

Yes, if you've already rooted it won't be an issue. You can always uninstall it later

Many thanks. I can always count on this community for helping
Okay, so, I installed the latest drivers (couldn't find a download for the old version everyone says works) and have kies. When I look at the driver installation thing, everything says it is good to go except for MTP, which is always says 'looking for preconfigured driver folders....'
Also, I still can't make a new folder on the external SD card and when i try to move files around, it freezes up. It will pop up with an error saying the device has stopped responding or it has been disconnected.
I'm pretty sure I need to make a folder on my external called 'android.secure' so that the nandroid will backup apps. And I need to find out a way that I can backup directly to the external rather than the internal and have to move it to the external.

[Q] any advice on fixing sdcard problems?

ive looked over the internet and found no solutions that helped
recent my samsung epic began giving me messages like microsd card unexpectedly removed etc. So i did what i read online and formated it on my pc and its "settings" of course i made a pc backup as well.
well it was all well for only two days and i got messages that now said sd card safe to remove. and the apps on the sd card wouldnt open no more and give a message of app not installed. so i factory reset in settings, format sd card again in settings I tried flashing a new rom, wipe data and dalvik etc ....
but the problem returns shortly after trying these ... on cwm log it shows me "cant format unknown volume /sdcard and /emmc"
now my pc and phone still read my card but it doesnt allow me to save anything or open anything on there such as apps, photos, etc.
now ive seen online suggestions of using odin or more cwm options that i have not tried because im not an expert at all yet. im in highschool so i cant really afford to expeirement myself and rather ask an expert on here.
if i should use odin or other options can someone please tell me how and what to do?
btw i have a 32gb sandisk card and im running cm10 and have never flashed other roms since i rooted first time. and i believe this started happening after i did a restore on one of my nandroid backups and i never wipe before restoring so maybe that might be the root of this conundrum i now face...

Tutorial on using ODIN and getting back to stock
Don't bother with the EL30 tar. Start just below that where the SPH-D700-FC09-8Gb-REL.tar download link is. That is the file which will give you 100% current stock.
EDIT:
After reading your original issue with the SD card...
You should remove the card from the phone.
Connect the card to a computer.
Backup whatever stuff you want to keep.
Format the card. (FAT32)
Move whatever stuff you backed up, back to the card.
Put card back in phone.
In CWM, run Fix Permissions in the advanced menu.
Optional: clear cache partition
Try again with the steps you took where you encountered the write issue to the card.
If you still experience the problem, then try ODIN to test against 100% stock.
If you still experience the problem on 100% stock (FC09), then replace the SD card.

That was my original reply in the other thread. Since you've formatted already, use the fix permissions option in CWM and try again.
If nothing, then go back to stock and try again. If that doesn't work, then replace the card.
Alright well I'm try this Saturday and post back here to let you know how it went

sorry for making you wait man but i had to take the act yesterday and i didnt want to f up my phone right before test day... but i was going to ask that i have a samsung usb cable that looks different than other samsung cables i have . and i used it before to root my phone and another phone and had no problems with it but it is samsung so could i still use it?

Have ya tried formating with your phone?
Seen that you tried it once before but when my epic's sd was glitching out simularly unmounting and remounting.
Or partitioning it for installing apps to it?
The other thing that maybe at fault is that when you formated with you computer is that it may have defaulted to a 'quick' format option. I've had nothing but mixed results with quick or fast formating option on windows and linux alike. There should be a check box option or advanced button in the formatting window on windows that gives the option for a full and lengthy format. Note: formatting on either your phone or your computer will sertianly delete the data, so, backup. One other note: when your doing something critical with data storige and such, its a good idea to close all other windows, espechealy the ones that are accessing your file system; such as file brousers and downloading files.
One more thing about restoring a backup on your phone after restoring the restore to a new or different sdcard: it can fail spectacularly if something gets corupted during all that movement and copying, so when you do get a sd card working whether it be new or newly formated it might be a good idea to make a new backup.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using xda app-developers app
yeah i tried all of that and i used a full format and didnt even restore to it ..
im on stock right now and it seems to randomly unmount but remount by itself when it says scanning media...
im going to root again before the end of tonight bc it sux on stock and ill check to see if the problem persists and im going to try replace the sd card slot too tonight because i have a few epics laying around so i check back in here tommorow afternoon
its not my sdcard for sure bc it works flawlessly on other phones and my phone did it to other sdcards as well.
Best thing you can do imo is to get a new sd card. Unless its the hw on the phone. You could solder up your own I bet, if its new for you it will be aventurous!

Seems like you've found the fault with the hardware. Before repair I'd try cleaning the contacts. Hope its just software though as it be a pain to do a repair and still have the same issue.

"it never hurts to help"
well i was sure it was hard ware after the message appear on 100% stock but the good thing i have a few epics sitting around with cracked screens/bricked/other issues so i got replacement parts.
but i fixed the problem !
i opened my epic and took out it sd card slot completly off the motherboard and same to other epic and swapped them.
and it didnt require any soldering since the epic is bada** phone .. very precise placement required though to put the slot back on the motherboard but i matched it after taking my time lol
now im just to going to root and flash and be a happy camper.
thanks very much though guys now im more confident in unrooting my phone and i know how to as well.
it seems the problem is gonnne.
crappppp the problem returned but now it fixes itself right after but this can trick some of the apps.
like apollo .
i have a few songs on there and unless i pop out and reinsert the sdcard or reboot it Apollo will think i dont have those songs ...which sux bc i use it frequently but yeah im just try swapping the sdcard slots again .

Video got corrupted and suddenly deleted while transferring

I was taking a video of a full concert which was around 40 mins and everything playback perfectly fine.
I attempted to transfer the video into my computer but it couldn't get through since I don't have enough storage in my computer. I deleted a few files to make some space for this video, then I copied and wait. Not long after, I tried to go back to my phone and it said something about the video being corrupted, then it suddenly deleted by itself. I was so shocked when it happened, thinking it was some kind of glitch, but the video really got deleted and there's absolutely not trace of it. I thought maybe the video got transferred to the computer, but there was nothing as well. The video just completely disappeared! I tried to recover it using fonelab but without root it couldn't do the "deep scan" but if I really have to root my brand new phone then I will. I'm really pissed because it was a really long video and something special to me and I can't believe it just disappeared like that... What actually happened and how can I fix it?
There could be several things. If the video was on the phone's sd card then it's possible it was caused by the sd card. If you were moving instead of copying the video it could have corrupted during the move. You talk like the video was on the phone but if you do have a card inserted are you sure it's not on the card?

It seems like the video was originally saved to my sd card actually. I remember just dragging the videos to a folder in my computer, and I'm pretty sure that means "copy" not "move/cut" because it's from an external drive. Do you know any ways of how I can recover it?

On your PC look here
C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp
When copying from external > PC it actually copies there first, then copies from there to wherever you asked it to save to
Slight chance it is still in there, it might not be named the same or have the .mp4 extension, so look for a file dated the same time / date you copied it / recorded it, and same size, then copy to desktop or somewhere and rename to .mp4
(Make sure show file name extensions is enabled to see the .mp4 extension)
If it's not there, run a data recovery software on your MicroSD on a PC

You can try installing something like EaseUS on your PC and see if it will recover anything on the SD card.

How does it scan my sd card in my phone? It seems like it only lets me scan my internal computer storage not any external drive like my phone...
Also, something interesting I found while going through he folder that had the video, is that there's a 0 byte file name temp_video but it was created 2 days after this incident happened... I don't actually think this is it because there were actual 2 video files and 4 pictures that got "corrupted and deleted" when I did it.

That is a temp folder it won't get deleted when you shutdown like clipboard does, I think it's every 30 days or something when it auto deletes stuff from there, so if it's not in there it might not have ever copied to the PC in the first place

If it originally saved to the MicroSD card (external sd) in the phone, put it in a card reader and connect to PC, if it was saved directly to the phone internal storage you might need a mobile data recovery software if EaseUS Windows version doesn't see it
Try this
https://www.easeus.com/android-data-recovery-software/free-android-data-recovery.html
Did you ever play the video back successfully on the phone? Completely from start to end?
You might have to accept that it never recorded properly in the first place unfortunately, and if that is the case, no data recovery will help as there was no video to recover

seems like I have to root my phone for the app to work? what's the most simple way to root it? and once I root, can I unroot it again so I don't void my warranty?
I didn't play back the video from start to finish since it was around 40 mins in total long but I did play parts of it and skipped some and I have no doubt the phone actually recorded and saved it... I just don't know why it suddenly disappeared when I was trying to copy it.
I'm really scarred of this happening again... What should I do to prevent it? I've already changed the recording so that it records to my device storage and not the micro sd.

If it recorded to the MicroSD why do you want to root your phone?
Put the SD into a card reader on the PC and run the recovery scan from there
And no you cannot unroot to avoid warranty issues, once rooted warranty is void forever

video got corrupted
Hello, it seems that the insufficient capacity cauesed your dada coruppted and deleted, I think you should stop the process to avoid data overwritten and the download a recovery tool. YOu can try some freeware, I have used the Bitwar data recovery to recover my files, this tool is free and easy to use, you can reover your files with three simple steps.
Hope it can help you.
