Video got corrupted and suddenly deleted while transferring - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I was taking a video of a full concert which was around 40 mins and everything playback perfectly fine.
I attempted to transfer the video into my computer but it couldn't get through since I don't have enough storage in my computer. I deleted a few files to make some space for this video, then I copied and wait. Not long after, I tried to go back to my phone and it said something about the video being corrupted, then it suddenly deleted by itself. I was so shocked when it happened, thinking it was some kind of glitch, but the video really got deleted and there's absolutely not trace of it. I thought maybe the video got transferred to the computer, but there was nothing as well. The video just completely disappeared! I tried to recover it using fonelab but without root it couldn't do the "deep scan" but if I really have to root my brand new phone then I will. I'm really pissed because it was a really long video and something special to me and I can't believe it just disappeared like that... What actually happened and how can I fix it?

There could be several things. If the video was on the phone's sd card then it's possible it was caused by the sd card. If you were moving instead of copying the video it could have corrupted during the move. You talk like the video was on the phone but if you do have a card inserted are you sure it's not on the card?

It seems like the video was originally saved to my sd card actually. I remember just dragging the videos to a folder in my computer, and I'm pretty sure that means "copy" not "move/cut" because it's from an external drive. Do you know any ways of how I can recover it?

On your PC look here
C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp
When copying from external > PC it actually copies there first, then copies from there to wherever you asked it to save to
Slight chance it is still in there, it might not be named the same or have the .mp4 extension, so look for a file dated the same time / date you copied it / recorded it, and same size, then copy to desktop or somewhere and rename to .mp4
(Make sure show file name extensions is enabled to see the .mp4 extension)
If it's not there, run a data recovery software on your MicroSD on a PC

You can try installing something like EaseUS on your PC and see if it will recover anything on the SD card.

Damn I looked over in that folder and I can't find anything about it. Does it matter if I've shutdown my computer because I thought the clipboard gets deleted or something?

How does it scan my sd card in my phone? It seems like it only lets me scan my internal computer storage not any external drive like my phone...
Also, something interesting I found while going through he folder that had the video, is that there's a 0 byte file name temp_video but it was created 2 days after this incident happened... I don't actually think this is it because there were actual 2 video files and 4 pictures that got "corrupted and deleted" when I did it.

That is a temp folder it won't get deleted when you shutdown like clipboard does, I think it's every 30 days or something when it auto deletes stuff from there, so if it's not in there it might not have ever copied to the PC in the first place

If it originally saved to the MicroSD card (external sd) in the phone, put it in a card reader and connect to PC, if it was saved directly to the phone internal storage you might need a mobile data recovery software if EaseUS Windows version doesn't see it
Try this
https://www.easeus.com/android-data-recovery-software/free-android-data-recovery.html
Did you ever play the video back successfully on the phone? Completely from start to end?
You might have to accept that it never recorded properly in the first place unfortunately, and if that is the case, no data recovery will help as there was no video to recover

seems like I have to root my phone for the app to work? what's the most simple way to root it? and once I root, can I unroot it again so I don't void my warranty?
I didn't play back the video from start to finish since it was around 40 mins in total long but I did play parts of it and skipped some and I have no doubt the phone actually recorded and saved it... I just don't know why it suddenly disappeared when I was trying to copy it.
I'm really scarred of this happening again... What should I do to prevent it? I've already changed the recording so that it records to my device storage and not the micro sd.

If it recorded to the MicroSD why do you want to root your phone?
Put the SD into a card reader on the PC and run the recovery scan from there
And no you cannot unroot to avoid warranty issues, once rooted warranty is void forever

video got corrupted
Hello, it seems that the insufficient capacity cauesed your dada coruppted and deleted, I think you should stop the process to avoid data overwritten and the download a recovery tool. YOu can try some freeware, I have used the Bitwar data recovery to recover my files, this tool is free and easy to use, you can reover your files with three simple steps.
Hope it can help you.

[Q] vm heap????

Hi, i just have a question of what the vm heap size should be. because normally its on 62 and ive see on the forums that the best is 32,96 or 109 ???
I recently got a scare because it was recomended to put it to 24 and my phone at the moment is rebooting randomly and over and over again.
i used blade buddy to change the vm heap.but i can just remove my memory card so it didn't load blade buddy and it will work. but as soon as i put it back in my problems start again.
I have changed to vm heap back to default quickly then saved back to 62 but its still rebooting over and over again.
Rooted with no rom.
What can i do???

You got adb on your PC??
Link here for use of adb on Win 7...
http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/2153...ows-computer-for-use-with-your-android-phone/
Ensure USB Debugging set/checked.....
Connect to PC, open Administrator Command Prompt
you can modify the build.prop heap entry:
Code:
ADB pull /system/build.prop c:\
build.prop will copy to the c:\ [root] on your PC......
Open file with editor, like Notepad.....
change line
dalvik.vm.heapsize=24m to dalvik.vm.heapsize=48m
Save file build.prop
Then:
Code:
ADB remount
ADB push c:\build.prop /system/
ADB reboot
Sorry....my bad above.......
Are you in boot-loop...so you can't start adb!!!!!
Maybe from Recovery...will check
Also, you can modify Build.prop as above with Root Explorer or ES [Root]
When you have no SD card in!!!!
I would try, check values first, then change from 24 to 48
Sorry if I mis-lead at first....

The boot cycles only happen if im just idle on my adw launcher and doing nothing.I think its got something to do with .android_secure folder with all my apps installed to. at the moment i have connected to my usb mass storage and its working fine.
-im going to copy the secure folder to my laptop then delete it on my phone.
-Also i have changed my vm heap to 96 or minimum of 62.
and why does my sd card make my phone crazy????

.android_secure is where your moved Apps are.....
path is /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/.android_secure
If you have CWM Recovery, you can try fix permissions.....
it usually sorts out apps which are force closing or causing random re-boots....
Why do you want to delete your .android_secure.....you would lose all moved Apps
do you mean back-up??
Which is good, as this is not done by our ClockworkMod Recovery....
Also, to modify VM Heap, try VM Heap tool free from Market.
I think 48m is good for our phone......96 is too high!!
Also, you could try new Launcher, Launcher Pro or Zeam are good......
getting back to SD Card, have you as you say, back up full SD to PC, including all hidden files and folders.....
then Format from phone...Settings/Storage/Unmount SD card......then Format SD card.......
this erases everything, so make sure you do back-up!!!
Mount SD again......Connect to PC via USB Cable, and then restore back up from PC...
Hay fayosi....

For all of this rom and kernel and flashing is much more complicated than the ios jailbreaking. and i try to do it. wipe my phone and all of the instructions but it never works for me. i have rooted my phone.
and a question what is your default VM heap and what are you currently using.
finally when i first got my phone the version was 2.3.6 now is 2.3.5.

it may be relevant to understand your Boot-loop or Random rebooting question!!!
You sure you did unsupercharge menu option in script!!!
Wrong options in script could cause boot-loops!!!
What options did you choose when you ran it.....

-i chose options 2 then 6 as it said. the to uninstall it is chose 13,14 then 15.
-if i usb storage with my computer my phone works fine.
-if i remove my memory card it works aswell
-anyway.. how do i back up my phone then restore it after a wipe because i dont have enough space for full titanium backup
Only use Titanium Backup to delete apps or whatever else you need it for. Do not backup with it...
You can make a backup with clockworkmod to your external micro sd card. And honestly its the best way to make a backup.
It only takes 10minutes to make a backup with it and you can delete your old back up when you made a new one. And you will never have a problem

U mean if ur phone without memory card/usb storage on it, it is working normally? If this is the case, I suggest formatting ur memory card 1st and then try it with ur phone again. Of course, u can copy ur important data to pc before formatting.
CWM doesn't backup ur apps on external_sd. Only titanium can make a full backup of apps.
How would i do it???
-i have apps on my sd card and how do i back them up because off my phone resetting after 25secs when its in.?
-can i literally copy the sd card file onto my computer then paste back After because i tried it before and when i put just my apps back my sd card it does the rebooting cycles.

Hi fayosi....sorry was away for a day...kinda busy!!!

Did you use Apps2SD or native Android App2SD...
Native, in-built, Gingerbread Apsp2SD is like this:

Settings/Applications/Manage applications/On SD Card Tab
Apps which have been moved will have check mark in box on RHS....e.g. Amazon Kindle in pic.
Other Apps which can be moved are listed here, without check in box.
You have to tap on App you want to move, and then it's App Info page will open where you can then move App.
However, there is also free from Google Play App called App2SD, which has GUI to partially automate the process of moving downloaded Apps.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.app2sd&feature
You will get a Notification in the notification bar telling you the App can be moved to SD...
App2SD Notification....top left notification
I will continue when I have more time...maybe tomorrow......
But, perhaps you have moved an App, which should not be on SD!!
I don't know, you use Link2SD......anyway, moer later!!
edit: Backing up from SD, can you use Card Reader, or adapter in Laptop??

Hi fayosi......how are you??
ASEC = Android Secure
Just can I quote this, regarding the .asec files:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/f7d11237744fe5fa
Re: [android-developers] Question about .asec (encryption) on Froyo 2.2 (Emulator)
Dianne Hackborn <[email protected]>
Apps on SD card are stored in an encrypted container for platform security
purposes -- so that other applications can not modify or corrupt them. When
mounting the SD card, these containers are mounted so that they can be
accessed in the same way as apps stored in internal storage.
Click to collapse
This is Googles answer to questions about security and .android_secure
Those asec files you ask about, on your SD card, these are your moved Apps....
[I still do not know how you moved them....what was your procedure???]
but they are encrypted, and have symbolic links in your phone memory which allows them to be unencrypted and used as normal Internal Unencrypted Apps.
I post a pic of my SD Card Back-up, which shows those .asec files in .android_secure folder [My Moved Apps]:
Compare with same folder as viewed from device by Storage Analyser App:
As you can see, the Apps shown in Storage Analyser correspond with the .asec files in .android_secure folder on SD Card......
Now, what App on your SD card is causing your Boot-loop problem??? That is the question......
more later, if you are interested, and give more info!!!

As I said earlier...these files essentially are his moved Apps.....
How is it concluded that this angry bird App us to blame, or some other App is not??
What is this conclusion based on??
First it was VM heap, then V6 SC, then the SD card, now some random App....
I ask how Apps were moved.... coz some Apps don't behave well if force moved to SD....they are not designed by Dev to be there...

Man, I am trying to help you, but you gotta tell when and under what circumstance your phone started this boot-loop problem????
So far, you have blamed applying V6 SC, after that your phone started this botloop stuff:
i tried the newest supercharger and i have done all the correct setting on stock rom.
it was all going perfect then when i reboot my phone it loads up normally then after 25seconds it reboots over and over again. to stop this i have to remove the memory card from the device

then you blamed Blade Buddy, changing Heap size, after that bootloop started:
Hi, i just have a question of what the vm heap size should be. because normally its on 62 and ive see on the forums that the best is 32,96 or 109 ???
I recently got a scare because it was recomended to put it to 24 and my phone at the moment is rebooting randomly and over and over again.
i used blade buddy to change the vm heap.but i can just remove my memory card so it didn't load blade buddy and it will work. but as soon as i put it back in my problems start again.
I have changed to vm heap back to default quickly then saved back to 62 but its still rebooting over and over again.

And there have been numerous other reasons given......
BTW, is Blade Buddy on your SD, cos it should not be....it shows in App2SD as an App which can't be moved, strictly on the Phone???
So, unless you can give definitive root cause for these boot-loops, like
when did this actually start??
after you did what???
there is no point taking a guess that it might be SD card, or it may be V6 SC, or Heap size, or whatever.......
It is obviously something you did, so can you remember back to when it started, what did you do just before that!!!!
Also, what did you do to change Version from 2.3.6 to 2.3.5:
finally when i first got my phone the version was 2.3.6 now is 2.3.5.

So, what ROM or Firmware did you flash, and how??
Other than telling you to flash back to Stock, and wipe your SD card, I just don't know!!!
Okay thanks. i will check that blade buddy is on my internal memory.
and i dont know how i went back in version no clue im on stock rom. that really does not bother me anymore 2.3.5?

[Q] any advice on fixing sdcard problems?

ive looked over the internet and found no solutions that helped
recent my samsung epic began giving me messages like microsd card unexpectedly removed etc. So i did what i read online and formated it on my pc and its "settings" of course i made a pc backup as well.
well it was all well for only two days and i got messages that now said sd card safe to remove. and the apps on the sd card wouldnt open no more and give a message of app not installed. so i factory reset in settings, format sd card again in settings I tried flashing a new rom, wipe data and dalvik etc ....
but the problem returns shortly after trying these ... on cwm log it shows me "cant format unknown volume /sdcard and /emmc"
now my pc and phone still read my card but it doesnt allow me to save anything or open anything on there such as apps, photos, etc.
now ive seen online suggestions of using odin or more cwm options that i have not tried because im not an expert at all yet. im in highschool so i cant really afford to expeirement myself and rather ask an expert on here.
if i should use odin or other options can someone please tell me how and what to do?
btw i have a 32gb sandisk card and im running cm10 and have never flashed other roms since i rooted first time. and i believe this started happening after i did a restore on one of my nandroid backups and i never wipe before restoring so maybe that might be the root of this conundrum i now face...

Tutorial on using ODIN and getting back to stock
Don't bother with the EL30 tar. Start just below that where the SPH-D700-FC09-8Gb-REL.tar download link is. That is the file which will give you 100% current stock.
EDIT:
After reading your original issue with the SD card...
You should remove the card from the phone.
Connect the card to a computer.
Backup whatever stuff you want to keep.
Format the card. (FAT32)
Move whatever stuff you backed up, back to the card.
Put card back in phone.
In CWM, run Fix Permissions in the advanced menu.
Optional: clear cache partition
Try again with the steps you took where you encountered the write issue to the card.
If you still experience the problem, then try ODIN to test against 100% stock.
If you still experience the problem on 100% stock (FC09), then replace the SD card.

That was my original reply in the other thread. Since you've formatted already, use the fix permissions option in CWM and try again.
If nothing, then go back to stock and try again. If that doesn't work, then replace the card.
Alright well I'm try this Saturday and post back here to let you know how it went

Have ya tried formating with your phone?
Seen that you tried it once before but when my epic's sd was glitching out simularly unmounting and remounting.
Or partitioning it for installing apps to it?
The other thing that maybe at fault is that when you formated with you computer is that it may have defaulted to a 'quick' format option. I've had nothing but mixed results with quick or fast formating option on windows and linux alike. There should be a check box option or advanced button in the formatting window on windows that gives the option for a full and lengthy format. Note: formatting on either your phone or your computer will sertianly delete the data, so, backup. One other note: when your doing something critical with data storige and such, its a good idea to close all other windows, espechealy the ones that are accessing your file system; such as file brousers and downloading files.
One more thing about restoring a backup on your phone after restoring the restore to a new or different sdcard: it can fail spectacularly if something gets corupted during all that movement and copying, so when you do get a sd card working whether it be new or newly formated it might be a good idea to make a new backup.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using xda app-developers app
yeah i tried all of that and i used a full format and didnt even restore to it ..
im on stock right now and it seems to randomly unmount but remount by itself when it says scanning media...
im going to root again before the end of tonight bc it sux on stock and ill check to see if the problem persists and im going to try replace the sd card slot too tonight because i have a few epics laying around so i check back in here tommorow afternoon
its not my sdcard for sure bc it works flawlessly on other phones and my phone did it to other sdcards as well.
Best thing you can do imo is to get a new sd card. Unless its the hw on the phone. You could solder up your own I bet, if its new for you it will be aventurous!

Seems like you've found the fault with the hardware. Before repair I'd try cleaning the contacts. Hope its just software though as it be a pain to do a repair and still have the same issue.

well i was sure it was hard ware after the message appear on 100% stock but the good thing i have a few epics sitting around with cracked screens/bricked/other issues so i got replacement parts.
but i fixed the problem !
i opened my epic and took out it sd card slot completly off the motherboard and same to other epic and swapped them.
and it didnt require any soldering since the epic is bada** phone .. very precise placement required though to put the slot back on the motherboard but i matched it after taking my time lol
now im just to going to root and flash and be a happy camper.
thanks very much though guys now im more confident in unrooting my phone and i know how to as well.
it seems the problem is gonnne.
crappppp the problem returned but now it fixes itself right after but this can trick some of the apps.
like apollo .
i have a few songs on there and unless i pop out and reinsert the sdcard or reboot it Apollo will think i dont have those songs ...which sux bc i use it frequently but yeah im just try swapping the sdcard slots again .

[Q] What is ".SIc-yJMAhEcjs6wmSi9Uhdeyr_M=" Folder?

Fellows, what the heck is this folder named .SIc-yJMAhEcjs6wmSi9Uhdeyr_M= that stays in the SD Card and comes back even if deleted?
I thought this folder is exclusive to an app I installed on my Play but just recently after I bought a 2nd hand Xperia Go for everyday use that I noticed it also has this folder both in internal and external SD. Also, when I connect my USB Flash Drive via OTG, this same folder is created in it, too.
Any ideas? And is this dangerous?
Anyone?

Have you tried formatting or flashing a new FTF?
Well try removing your sdcard and see if your ROM is fine

yes potentially dangerous, that file sounds bad, looks to me like a corrupted sector on your SD card, these files usually can came from excessive bad mounts/ dismounts on windows side aka a faulty usb? and let me guess the file size says something ridiculous like 24GB? if not your only in phase 1.
if not it could be a app creating that folder for whatever reason but you better take action, if left unchecked if i think it is what i think it is then your SD card could fully corrupt.
i had this before, take out sd card from phone(Use a sd adapter) backup everything on sd EXCEPT THAT FILE/ FOLDER then run a disk check on sd, finally format sd the place files back
remember it could be nothing. if all else fails its probably just a app inside android making that file, to find out for sure as a last resort reinstall rom/ factory reset and 1 by 1 install your apps back and see which app makes it

Are you using mobisystems OfficeSuite 7?
Try un-installing it and see what happens.
Thanks guys for all the replies! I'm supposed to post a reply last Tuesday but I was very busy.
Before I posted this query I already did Google search for this and all that came back were forum posts in foreign languages so I didn't bother looking through.
This Tuesday I tried Googling it again and 1 or 2 new search results returned were all pointing to OfficeSuite.
With that, I think it's safe to assume the folder is not harmful. Besides, its content is only a 80.00-byte worth of .nomedia file.
EDIT:
@Oldtlar Yes I think it's related to OfficeSuite. :good:
EDIT 2:
http://www.plurk.com/p/jmkhp1
I contacted Mobile Systems, (OfficeSuite 7) and they stated it was not related to their program and directed me to this thread.
After un-installing OfficeSuite 7 & installing OfficeSuite 6.5, I can confirm the folder/directory and related is created by OfficeSuite 7.
I have since emailed them, but have had no reply.
It would be nice to know why the folder is created if nothing else, but a folder name that is less threatening looking or applicable to the program would cause less concern.
It probably was a cache folder for the program
At least it wasn't anything worse.

.nomedia is the name (and file extension) used for a folder or file that is not to be scanned by mediascanner (the service that runs every time android boots up to check media content such as videos e.t.c. stored on the internal storage).
Apps sometimes make use of this folder/file extension for temporary files or files that you don't need to see. (For example some emulators extract and store their button images for touchscreen usage all separately as .PNG, they are often in .nomedia folders).
Also the file(s) as mentioned are the size of 80kb.
So yes this to me defiantly sounds like some sort of app cache generated every time the app starts, probably OfficeSuite has some sort of broadcast receiver to make it start up shortly after boot as many apps do in Android. (Tons of apps if not all use these if you have a start on boot setting present - e.g. ROM Toolbox has 9-11 if I recall right for every different aspect of the tool).
Personally I won't worry about the folder being present.
Below is an example from my phone showing apps using broadcast receivers.

There is no doubt for me that the folder & related file are created by OfficeSuite 7. I have since gone back to OfficeSuite 6.5 on my three Android devices and it is NOT created.
It may be harmless as suggested, but if your program is going to create STRANGLY NAMED folders etc...... Why not name it something, like WE ARE A VIRUS - GOTCHA!
Great Program though! I just won't be recommending it to others or upgrading until a fix/explanation is made.

The problem is that it is strangely named and contains... nothing. Just a .nomedia file.
Thereafter, I don't get why they deny OfficeSuite 7 created it. I don't mind it being there, but it's weird. That weird that it made me Google at, Google brought me in this thread.
hi all - Same problem
Hi all,
I've the same Problem :
I'm using OfficeSuite 7 too (coincidence ?)
I've this folder on my SDCARD (internal) ans SDCARD1 (external)
This folder Stress me (i delet it all days)
Can anyone help me for removing totaly this folder ?

I also have this problem. Even if I delete the folder, then find myself always on the external sd is that the internal memory.
It 'annoying ............
I also have this folder popping up every now and then with a .nomedia file. But I use OfficeSuite Pro 8 + PDF. It's true that it's weird that that denied it that it's their app makes that folder. Suspicious indeed.
Sorry if bumping an old thread isn't allowed but wanted to say that even in ver 8 problem is still there.

recovering deleted pictures from internal sdcard

hello , is there anyway to recover deleted pictures from internal sdcad after formating system ??? , i tried many apps through google but all failed ,
i desperately need these pictures cuz they contain credit card informations which i must have
You are going to have to put your SD card into the computer and use a recovery program. SD cards don't have a "trash" so you will need to find software to recover it. IMPORTANT!! DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! the more reads and writes to your card, the more likely that the files you are looking for will be purged off. The reason I know its possible is because I just had to do this about 6 months ago. Good luck

internal SD.....not external SD ! zo thats a nice idea but not going to work as its not removable.
as long as you can't mount the internal SD as an USB disk its a no go to run recovery software as 99% of those type of software needs a USB disk to run and NOT MTP type of storage.
I think I saw a hack around XDA that allowed you to mount the memory, or extract the contents, to be able to recover (possibly) data. But it seemed like a lot of hoops to jump through. Plus, data recovery programs will often be only partially successful, under the best of circumstances.
Consider it a lesson learned, and backup your photos next time. With a variety of easy cloud options, there is really no reason not to.

well you could try
reboot to TWRP recovery to avoid further damage to the partition, make sure /external_sd is mounted
Code:
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p47 of=/external_sd/mmcblk0p47_userdata.img
(that should be a raw ext4 partition)
once that's done, take out your external sdcard, and using a card reader, try mounting it in linux then use some recovery program,
you may possibly need to convert it the raw partition, but i'm not sure about all that, just trying to point you in the [possibly] right direction
but in all cases, very low chance of success probably
EDIT: for example, i was able to mount the partition (i made a backup when i first got the phone), just to test using DiskInternals Linux Reader:

Disk digger works very very well. I have used it a few times to help others out. It's success rate is pretty high.
Just ensure to recover to the external sd card.
I suggest that you try this htc data recovery solution.

Phone based data recovery apps (such as from the Play store) are your best bet.
As you may be referring to (hard to tell with a one line, vague post) PC based programs have been (at least somewhat) successful recovering data from smartphones in the past. But since Android has moved to MTP protocol (versus USB mass storage), most of those programs won't work.
The phone apps will work to some degree, with internal storage. But data recovery is always an iffy proposition. Once the memory blocks get overwritten, the data is gone for good (at least by any reasonable, consumer level retrieval methods).

XIAOMI MI A2 Lite - Android Oreo 8.1 - "External storage stopped working"

Hi all,
I just bought the phone in the subject of the thread and I am just having this problem with the sdcard over and over again.
Long story short:
I bought a sandisk sdcard 128 and converted it as internal storage from the settings menu'.
The card is working perfectly fine as I am able to move apps on it, run programs and see the added 128GB but, every time I try to open "file" manager (the stock one or any other downloaded from Googleplay) I keep getting the error message "External storage stopped working" and the device disappears from the list on the left. Same issue if I try to delete the apps stored on the memory rather than the one on the device itself.
Of course I understand that the phone is not seeing it as an external memory anymore, and till this point all is perfectly normal for me but still don't understand why any of the file managers used is unable to show me what files are on my device.
Also, this error message is a pain in the A** as stop me from receiving notifications from some apps as Facebook or messanger.
I tried removing the SDcard or converting it as an external memory and all come back working as usual.
I tried reformatting it numerous times and rebooting the device and nothing seems working.
Below some pics of the error message and "file" app not showing my device anymore when the SD is in

I have exactly the same symptoms on my phone. Could it be a hardware issue?
Yeah, I also have this issue. Previously I used old (1-2 year old) sandisk ultra 32 gb card. The i bought a new samsung evo plus 64 gb card and I still got the same error message. Worse, somehow in storage setting the capacity of the samsung card is listed at 128 gb.
Weird. Help?
Workaround, not a solution
I had the same problems from the first time I got this phone. I even replace the SD card I had with a new one with A1 specs capable of 100mb/sec transfer rates.
The was still coming up everytime the card was accesed, I think due to some response timeout from the android system although the apps seem to be running ok.
Anyway I think I found how to overcome this problem so far, although it is not a solution, so that this annoying warning is not appearing:
-You have to enable developer options (check google how to)
-Go to Settings > System > Developer options
-Scroll down almost to the bottom of the screen until you find an option like 'Errors without response' (may be different text)
-Switch this option off
Now I can use the sd card with no problem, anyway better have a fast one as I said before to ensure apps can read/write ok.
Dont lie there is no such option in there , xiaomi better fix this im about to take a hammer abd break the phone

Having the exact same issue, play music won't recognise my SanDisk 128 GB card and neither will file manager??
I bought this phone ans I also have the same issue. I have a high quality 128GB SD card I used on my previous phones with no errors or lag. With this phone I have exact same issues as you guys so this is due to xioami. But there don't seems to be a lot of people affected looking at this thread.
Need a solution for this.
This video clearly shows the issue.

For the issue in the first post try clearing the data from every file manager you use, it seems a little strange that the file manager reports external device error when you converted to internal (basically you told the system that the external memory doesn't exists and it should only look at internal memory)
you could try to format the sd card on a PC (use FAT32, NTFS gave me issues)
when you put the card in, choose external option and see if that helps.
I recently purchased 64GB Hama SD card (it's Samsung's) with 80MB/s read speed (this one) and it was totally unusable on Pie. I formatted it as internal and my phone kept rebooting over and over (restarting SystemUI) and all the apps which were installed on this card were constantly cleared, for e.g. every time I left Spotify, even without this random reboot, I needed to log in again and download my files, same with other apps and their settings. I didn't get those pop-ups about storage errors tho.
I downgraded to Oreo, formatted the card as I wanted - as internal, and now everything seems to be fine, except this error I'm getting from time to time "External Storage has stopped". I didn't noticed any impact on my files or the overall speed of the phone, just throwing this error and nothing else happens.
I tried the solution from @Elroto, but it was already turned off in Developer options, then I found #43 in this thread, but it didn't work for me either.
Did anyone manage to solve this issue?
yea pie fix the error popup but the sd card problem is still there when the screen is locked the sdcard randomly ejects and when you set the sdcard as internal itll soft reboot your phone when locked. The problem occur when the phone is locked
I disabled Downloads and Download Manager (System -> Apps & notifications -> All apps (show system)) and I don't receive any errors about external storage anymore, but you can't use Android/Play Store without Download Manager. Any workaround ideas?
