GS3 screen burn-in - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've had my GS3 for about a year now and I'm seeing some unfortunate burn-in on the lower row of icons (the ones that don't move from screen-to-screen), and the main clock/weather widget, particularly when the screen is all white (as in bringing up a web page in my browser).
I was very surprised to see this, especially since I do NOT leave the screen on just at the home menu screen, my timeout is set to 1 min, but I'll hit the button to kill the screen most times.
I was under the impression that the newer screens, like on the GS3 and other phones were not supposed to even get burn-in like this? How many others are seeing this?

I've had burn in on mine for a while. The top status bar is burned in a little and a Reddit icon from the Reddit Is Fun app. Not too easy too see unless you go to a bright screen and look for it, but it's there. It's been like that for about 6 months and I got the phone last September.

Wife had the same issue, Sprint replaced the screen under insurance. Didn't have to ship it off or pay anything.

Crazy didn't even know that was still an issue with today's display tech. I have yet to see it happen on any of my Samsung phones.

Use my phone multiple hours a day for over a year and havent noticed any burn in

I've got a little bit of burn in. In the right light and a white background you can just make out Poweramp controls.

burn in is an issue with all amoled screens...

I got the s3 sph-l710
is there any app or any solution to minor burn in other than replacing the lcd?

I had it on my S2 but not on the S3.

Well what about this app called "burn in tool"? I'm reading good user reviews about it... Is it just a placebo effect?

Is this thing in my screen normal?

Hi,
I bought a Galaxy Nexus phone yesterday, and last night I noticed this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As you see, the screen looks a bit more reddish on a side and a little more greenish on the other. It's more noticeable with low brightness levels, especially when displaying white backgrounds.
Is this normal on these phones? Should I get a refund and / or replacement?
Thanks!
These screens have some issues at lower brightness levels.. that's just the screen though. In your case I guess it would come down to how much it bothers you really

Well, it does. I know these screen have some other issues, such as some noise and granularity, but as far as I've read this is not a common issue. Hence the question, do you guys have it too?

Hallo my friend, seems like we are in the same boat. We have a screen issue thread over 60+ pages in galaxy note Q & A.
check this thread out
The issue u see are definitely associated with these Amoled screens, but the biggest problem of all is the ignorance from everybody thinking it is NORMAL.
Where i say its NOT NORMAL
And still everybody thinks is NORMAL & continue to think they hv the best Super Amoled screen in the world.
I m getting frustrated...
I'd assume that's not normal and it would bother the crap out of me. Try getting a replacement?
try Franco Kernel as it fixes the color... if you buy his app you will be able to control the color to your liking.
but this is definitely not normal

Er, well. If you agree that it's not the way the screen should look, I think I'll get a replacement rather than mess with the kernel. I'll let you know how it went, thanks guys.

[Q] Does this look washed out? Is it a faulty screen?

Take a look at this screenshot of my phone. Does it look washed out to you? I think it's horribly washed out. I had a serious hardware issue with my phone (the microphone failed completely - I even reverted to 100% stock and the issue persisted).

So I had a warranty replacement and this new phone's screen seems horribly washed out. I took a screenshot which I've posted here, but I'm not sure if it does justice to how bad the screen seems to my eyes.
The background looks gray but is supposed to be much more black looking (Tapatalk dark view).
Should I request a replacement due to screen issues?

You do realize that the screenshot will absolutely show nothing that the physical screen is showing you? It's effectively showing a "video out" of the screen. Its showing what the phone hardware is sending to the screen.
You have to take a picture of the screen with another camera...
Looks fine on my iPad 2.

Looks perfectly fine on my notebook too. LOL.
Ya do what the 2nd guy said.
Sometimes my Tapatalk looks like this and other times the app is actually black. Are you saying my screen goes from washed out to not washed out?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I think what he is seeing is the HW acceleration gradient present in ICS.
To the OP, if you go to your settings, do you see the same gradient running from the bottom of the screen and getting progressively darker near the top?
I would recommend using Franco's kernel until voodoo comes out. To me the "hue" is slightly yellowish on stock. Using Franco's kernel it's much nicer.

It isn't washed out. That gradient you see means hardware acceleration is currently enabled.

[Q] Weird "C" shaped shadow in the internal side of the screen

Hi,
So 3 days ago I bought the galaxy 3 (new from a private store) and there's a really weird problem with the screen..
U can see in the picture I added the "C" like shape and the dot underneath it..I'm seeing it when I play games, use the camera and so on..It's there all the time but its visibility depends in what the screen is showing.
If u know how to fix it without me having to replace the device..your help will be most appreciated.
Guy's I just transferred the pic' to my computer and the "C" shape+ dot wasn't there (meaning that the problem is in the internal side of the screen)so I took my old SGS1 and shot the SGS3 screen
How can a new member upload a picture???

You know, I have some some shadows on my screen as well. They are only visible when I'm looking at the screen in low ambient light... So I notice it if I'm watching a movie at night in the dark, or, as you said, taking photos in a dark place.
The shadow looks just like if you push on a computer's LCD screen... I wonder if the Gorilla Glass covering is imperfect and pushing on the screen?
In my case it doesn't look like a pushing problem, it's way too symmetric and there's no "pushing waves", the color is not consistent with the "pushing effect"…
I don't think there's something I can do about it except replacing it…it's funny because I really have no clue what on earth could cause this…
Upload it to imgur then post link.
That's a know problem, rare though.
I have one little line on my phone only visible in the dark on a black background.
I think it's called ink spot or something like that.

That's not what I was talking about. That looks like screen burn. I'd swap it for a new one from Sprint. Don't let them give you a refurbished.

Dude I'm from Israel
I bought it from a private store and they told me that if there is no way to fix it they will give me a new one- not refurbished because I got the device like that.
I bought it 4 days ago…
THANK U FOR YOUR HELP!!!

[Q] Color Control for Note 2?

Hi,
I would like to know if it will be possible to implement Color Control (as used in many Galaxy Nexus custom kernels) in custom kernel for Galaxy Note 2?
Here's a link (it worked wonders on my old Galaxy Nexus!):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521195
My Note 2 has a heavy green/yellowish tinted screen. The problem is much more pronounced than on my old Galaxy S3, which actually was quite bad, too...
Otherwise I have to return my Galaxy Note 2
This is a comparison between my calibrated LCD and my Note 2:

I got my replacement today. Still the same problem (at leaster better build quality). I've compared mine to other Galaxy Note 2, every single device I have seen had the same issue. So I guess there are many GN2 with that issue out there.
This is a screen shot from my note 2. Is there something I'm not seeing? What's the problem?

Mine doesn't actually appear to have any tint to it, but one of my hobbies if photography so I'm picky about colours

Do you have power saving mode on? There is a screen setting in the power save menu that tints the browser. Also try to use the "dynamic" screen setting instead of natural or the others. That fixed my tint.

One thing you are not seeing is that a screenshot can never represent a displays color reproduction. As you are eliminating the actual display and only looking at the image as it was rendered in the software. All screenshots from all devices will appear the same, however photos of the actual rendered image on screen will show variations. Using a calibrated display as a reference is the only way to have a solid comparison, just like the OP did. If you want to contribute, do the same.

strange screen problems

hi all XDA's
ok i know i use whatsapp alot but this is so strange !!!!!!

as you see in the previous picture
in the upper part of the screen there is a less than 1 cm bar thick, which is much whiter than the rest of the screen and there is a smile face and clip icon on the right of that bar
its identical to whatsapp chat bar
the problem is that this bar is like a back light on the screen its showing in the screen where ever you are at and its so clear to see on a white or gray back grounds its even noticeable on CWM , its so annoying and defecting the beautiful screen of my note 2. :crying:
cant seem to understand how or why that happened
could it be that my screen is a defected unit ?? cuz my brother's note 2 is just fine
right now i dont know what to do i asked a mobile's repair shop for new screen and he said it will cost me 300$ (its half price of a new device)
here is more pix
*note : it may be no so clear to see on those pictures but in real its so clear and ugly
I have heard issue of Screen burn

so the only solution is to replace the screen with new one right ???
and do u think that the one year guarantee that came with the device should cover this ??
thanks all for helping
i make up my mind
the screen is so annoying cant live with it and even the colors tune is less brighter than it was and more yellow-ish i started to hate the phone cuz of the screen
and the new screen will cost me 300$ and its too much its almost a price of a new mid range android device
i decided to sell it and buy HTC one but not so sure
i will think about it and do some researches on the HTC one and see if it is good enough
damn you samsung you always disappoint me with your super amoled problems
