Hi please advice how to flash kernel if I have no official ICS 4.0.4 and my computer can not find drivers for your phone. Alternatively, you could give me enough control. Thank you.

I don't understand what you need help with... are you trying to flash a stock kernel to a custom kernel or custom kernel to custom kernel to change roms?
I need to flash custom kernel to custom kernel to change ROM. Sorry for my bad english I am Czech.

Though I think you've read it already, just in case, look under "Flashing the Custom Kernel" in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054512
Be sure that your'e in fastboot mode (blue LED) when you run the command.
If you cannot get into fastboot mode using the standard method (while phone is off, press and hold the search button and connect to computer via USB), then you can try installing Clockwork Mod recovery, reboot the phone into recovery (press Vol Down repeatedly as the phone boots up) and then select it fastboot in the reset options.
Then you should be able to flash the new kernel with fastboot.

Hey guys, my phone is currently at 4.0.2.A.0.62 and it is boot loader unlocked. But I have complete no idea how to root my phone. And after I root, I would like to have my phone's UI look like the Ice Cream Sandwich look, but not the actual firmware, because I heard that Xperia Arc cannot handle ICS from the official sony ericsson website. So if anyone of you guys can help. It would be very helpful. Cheers
You can't use tools to root .62 firmware coz sony did something not being able to root it.. As you mentioned that your bootloader is unlocked why don't you flash a custom kernel like Doomkernel and a smooth rom like Arconium and it'll do wonders for you.. Then you can install themes to get the ICS look.... Because, i have done all of these and presently using this setup!

Above s the kernel link, download both the kernel and the libraries.. Yes you can flash kernel using flashtool..Copy the .img file to pc, Get into fastboot mode by switching off the mobil, then press the menu button and connect to pc.. Flashtool will say that device connected in fastboot mode.. Now go to flash option and select fastboot mode, from the toolbox select kernel to flash and point to the img file.. The kernel will be flashed.. Now go into recovery and flash the libraries you downloaded from the kernel thread or else wi fi wont work! Get it?

Hi I'm new here, just made an account 5 minutes ago.
I need help with getting CM7, CM9 or any other Custom Rom on my Xperia Play R800X VERIZON. I am Rooted, and have an Unlocked Bootloader. I was able to flash a UK version of the Xperia Play android version 2.3.3 Rom to make sure my bootloader was unlocked. The UK version was nice but it wasn't for me.
Just trying to get CM9 on my phone! but for some reason I'm having a really hard time doing so.
If anyone can help me or give me advice it would be much appreciated, I'm just trying to make use of my unlocked Bootloader! D:

Download the rom, extract the kernel then place the rom on the root of your sd card. flash kernel with flashtool, boot into recovery, WIPE EVERYTHING, flash rom and gapps. They have instructions on how to install on 99% of the threads.. good luck

Is there a "best" if you will, ROM or Kernel for the Xperia Play? I'm just trying to get the most out of my device. Also how do I get the gapps you mentioned?
I've done this a few times already but the main problem for me is: I get the kernel working, get into recovery, but when I got to apply/ flash the ROM I always seem to get and error message of some sort. Its very aggravating. I've been checking all over the internet for a solution but nothing so far, I've been awake for almost 48 hours now looking for a solution -.-
Thanks
There is a flashtool thread in development section.
And, the best ROM I love is Cola ROM. Has no Verizon Bloatware! Favorite thing about it

For some reason when I use Flashtool to flash a kernel it ends up giving me an error message & then makes my phone inactive, I then have to flash back to VERIZON stock Rom all over again. Any ideas??

I appreciate all the replies!
But for some reason NONE of this is working for me :/
I can flash a stock ftf file via flashtool no problem. I can enter recovery via X-parts app no problem. But when it comes to flashing the kernel via flashtool & unzipping the rom file via recovery they always report back an error message which leaves my phone completely useless or stuck on a boot loop which I then have to re flash stock rom to have a working phone again.
Hopefully that made sense lol, I have TeamViewer if anyone can help me thru that possibly idk I'm out of ideas...

To flash kernels, I use Fastboot instead of FlashTool. If course if you choose that route, you'll need to set up Fastboot.

Did you get the files downloaded? If so place them in a folder on your PC together.
Power your phone off. Then power on while holding the search button. You should see the blue LED on top of your phone which means you are in Fastboot mode.
Try that much and report back, then we can work on actually flashing the kernel.

Go to the folder where you put the Fastboot and driver files. On your PC, hold in shift and then right click. You should see the option to open a command prompt here. Try that.

I don't think that it's bricked. If you can't flash another kernel try to flash a stock firmware.
What do you mean you can't flash firmware.
When you plug usb cable with pressed search or back button, do you have any light on power button.
Try to use Sony recovery software or use Fastboot and flash stock firmware.

Dear all,
Firstly, I'm new to this forum - hi. I have done an extensive search and found some guides but even those confuse me so I'd appreciated some constructive comments without any links to guides I may also find difficult.
I'm trying to install Jellybean to my device using a guide (that I currently can't link to because I haven't had 10 posts).
I have downloaded the two zip files it says I need (ROM and Google Apps) and have copied them to my SD card. However I don't know how to get into recovery mode to then load these. I downloaded RecoverX and tried to install it but it says my phone is either not connecting or is missing some drivers. I have busybox installed and my phone is connected with USB debugging enabled.
Can anyone advise me further?
Thank you.
What have you got?? Unlocked or Locked Bootloader ???
You forgot the first step.
Unlocking your bootloader
You have to unlock bootloader to flash custom jelly bean kernel. Then you can load cwm

Restore backup, its only thing u can do right now. If u want to flash custom JB rom, u must unlock bootloader as said before because different versions of Android cant run on the same kernel.
To install custom rom, do this steps:
1) unlock bootloader (if possible, otherwise, u r stuck with ICS roms.)
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
2) After that, its simple - flash selected kernel via flashtool and then flash desired ROM!
And piece of advice, u have search on this forum, its quite usefull

You will want to install your recovery using a cmd prompt. Our phone is S-on, so you may run into difficulty trying to use goo for a recovery installation. MAKE A BACKUP ONCE YOU GET TWRP INSTALLED!!!!
If you want cm10 you will need to get your twrp up and running first, download your desired cm10 zip to your computer, open archives using 7zip, copy the boot img from the rom zip to your working fastboot folder (assuming that you have fastboot set up since you got this far), open a cmd window and navigate to your fastboot folder using the command cd c:\yourfastbootfoldername.
Once your rom is installed, reboot to bootloader. Plug your phone into your pc, it should switch from fastboot to fastboot usb. Use the command fastboot flash boot boot.img. You should now be able to reboot your phone and enjoy cm10!

Unlocked bootloader doesn't mean that your phone is S-Offed, it is different.

There is a whole lot more work to get the device s-off. Your kernel is the boot img that I mentioned earlier. I am PrimoC, so I don't have experience with hellboy, but I do have to flash a new kernel with every rom. If you are going from one cm10 to another cm10, you might be safe, but I wouldn't chance it. Unlocking your bootloader allows you to flash kernels. It doesn't give you s-off.
