edit: I managed to get to recovery by removing the sdcard, booting to fastboot, then entering recovery and hot-plugging the sdcard back to the slot.
Is fastboot supposed to act like that? What files do I have to delete from the sdcard to prevent it from happening again?
I am using Codefire X AOSP. All worked more or less well (occasional restarts) for the last weeks. However today I had to reboot and now the ROM is stuck at the codefire x logo.
After multiple times trying to reboot I decided to wipe and reflash. But when I press Power + Vol Down the fastboot menu comes up only briefly and then it says it found an update and if I want to install it.
The only two options are Yes (Vol Up) and No (Vol Down). When I press Vol Up the radio is reflashed, then the phone reboots. When I press Vol Down (not update) I get the option Press Power to Reboot. Nothing else.
I tried adb/fastboot but it doesn't seem to find the device. I tried adb both while the phone is in fastboot (or hboot) and while the codefire logo is displayed but it's not detected.
Any idea how I can enter recovery?
Take the radio file off your SD card with a card reader.
Thanks, fortunately I could boot to recovery by removing the sdcard, so after reflashing I'm now able to delete the file.
I think it's strange though that you can't boot to recovery when a radio file is present on the sdcard...

That is because every time the phone boots into hboot parses for PD98IMG files. If you have one in your sdcard, then does that.

I'm in need of some expert help for my wifes Droid Incredible. It is rooted, s-off running Cyanogen 7.xxx
She woke me in a pannic this morning saying her phone wasn't working. When I took a look, it keeps booting to the white screen with the "htc Incredible" words. I can press volume down and power to get into hboot, but when I select recovery or factory reset, it just boots back to the white screen with "htc Incredible"
I can't seem to get anywhere from here and the search I did seems to bring up other issues with people at least able to get into the recovery.
Any help or advice on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

You need to try to reflash recovery thru hboot. Download CWM 5.0.2.0 http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip, and place the file on your sdcard in no folders. Boot into hboot (vol down and power) and it should find the file after a couple secs and prompt you to press vol up to update. Do so and then when prompted to reboot do so. Now remove or rename the PB31IMG.zip on your sdcard and then pull the battery and boot to hboot and see if you can access recovery.

I got the message to hit volume up to update and then after that it asked if I wanted to reboot the device. I selected yes (volume up) and it still loops the white screen with the "htc Incredible" words. I never got to the point where it rebooted fully.
SHOOT!!! Was hoping this would have done it. Thank you for the help though. I appreciate it.
Anything else I might be able to do?
As a side not, the phone does not get recognized when I connect it to my computer. I had to use another phone to place the PB31IMG file on the SD card.

No you misunderstood, it will still boot loop at this point, that was just the first step. Boot to hboot and see if you can access recovery now.
If you can access recovery, either restore a backup or flash a new rom.

Oh, gottcha. Sorry about that, my fault.
After hitting volume up to reboot, I took out the SD card and placed it in the other phone to remove the file. After that I put it back in the Incredible and booted it into hboot, but when I selected recovery, it did the same thing and just loops the "htc Incredible" screen.
Ok the next step to try would be to do an ruu. It will restore the phone to stock, but you will still have s-off.
Download this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.06.605.3/PB31IMG.zip and place it on the sdcard in no folders, boot to hboot, vol up to install. This time though when prompted to reboot select no, and then select factory reset. Hopefully when its done it will boot normaly.

Question...... After selecting "no" to the reboot option after it's been updated with the file, do I delete or rename the file and THEN try to get into recovery?

After selecting no to reboot, select factory reset from the hboot menu. When the factory reset is done it should automaticly reboot and boot up like normal.
Then you can delete the file and reflash cwm recovery as the ruu left you with the stock recovery.
OK, I must be doing something wrong. Here are the steps I have done:
* I put the SD card into a phone recognized by my computer
* I then place the RUU file onto that SD card
* I then take the SD card out and place it in the DInc
* I then hold the volume down button and power button to get into hboot
* The phone recognizes the file and starts the update (takes a bit)
* Once the update is done it asks if I want to reboot and I select no
* It then goes to a screen with a few options (bootloader, reboot bootloader etc...) I don't select anything and then pull the battery
* I then take the SD card out of the DInc and place it in the other phone so I can remove the file
* Once the file is deleted I take the SD card out of that phone and place it back into the DInc
* I go into hboot and select recovery and it just boot loops again with the "htc Incredible" screen
Am I missing something?? I know it can be recovered. Even it's back to stock, it would be great. My wife just wants her phone back.

Damn, you're fast cmlusco.
When I select no to the reboot, it does not present me with the screen that has the recovery option. It's a different screen with, I think, 4 options: bootloader, reboot bootloader, and 2 others I can't recall
Just notice this thread is on page 2 now. Check the last post on page one for steps on what I did.
When you boot to hboot there should be an option to do a factory reset, do that, you may have to select bootloader first. Then see if it boots normaly.

no go.
I assume once I apply the RUU I don't need to do it every time?
I went back into hboot and selected factory reset and it just did the same boot loop. Should I try wiping the SD card 100% clean and then try the RUU file?

You could try it, but it sounds like the recovery partition may be messed up. The stock recovery dosent work, cwm recovery dosent work, but ruus and recoverys flash fine without error. Sounds like a messed up partition table. Do you have ADB setup on your pc?
I don't have ADB on this PC. Been a while since I've even done anything with ADB. Could you point me in the right direction on what to do to get set up?
Once set up, what steps need to be taken?
Thanks for all your help with this. It's very much appreciated.

Download this http://dinc.does-it.net/ADB/ADB-Fastboot-USB-Drivers_v4_(x86)(x64).zip, and extract the contents to C:\ADB.
Connect the phone to the pc and on the pc go to device manager and look for an entry called unknown or android 1.0. Right click on it and select update driver. Select browse for driver and navigate to C:\ADB\drivers and select the adb folder. It should find the driver and update it.
Then open a cmd prompt on your pc and navigate to the C:\ADB folder. At tje prompt type adb devices , it should return a string of numbers and letters.
From there if it finds the phone you need to fastboo flash your misc partition.
Its gonna get a little complicated and require a bunch of steps. It sucks but it may fix it. I know there are already threads out there on how to fix this issue but i cant seem to find one.
When I plug the phone into the computer and power the phone on it just boot loops and the computer doesn't acknowledge it at all. In device manager there is not entry under any of the categories that says "Android..." or "unknown"

Crap i forgot you need to be able to boot the phone to enable usb debuging for the pc to see it. Um now im not sure what to do. Mabey format the sdcard fat32 and try the ruu again. I need to think about it, it will come to me.
Hi i was trying to install the android revolution HD rom, i was already rooted and had clockwork recovery image. So i like the rom instructions said downloaded super wipe and put it on the SD card. But first i downloaded the boot.img for the 7.0.0 version. The folder was called flash_boot_7.0.0 i tried running the .bat, but it didnt work so i manually flashed the boot.img in the fastboot folder in the flash_boot_7.0.0.zip. It flashed successfully and then i ran the super wipe script as the instructions said it carried out successfully but then when i tried flashing the rom it came back with an error and said installation aborted. So i then thought maybe i should reboot and then flash the rom. I rebooted and the phone goes to the HTC quietly brilliant screen and is stuck.
Iv tried the hold power and volume down method the phone just reboots straight back to the white HTC screen, it doesnt go to fastboot. What can i do to rescue my One X and what did i do wrong :|?!
Thanks
Hmz... It has to go into HBOOT (volume down while powering up).
See if adb is still working even if it stays on the HTC logo.

re
I think i had a similar issue but managed to get to hboot after few reboots... if you manage to get to the reboot, then you can fix the issue... i think may be rom you downloaded is a corrupted file so it didnt flash.. so download again mount trough the recovery and push the new download to the sd card and do the flashing...
make sure to keep the vol down button pressed while you forced power down and keep it pressed and then power up the device... best of luck mate!!
when u get to the htc screen, keep holding that power and volume bitton. it should go past

I had a similar problem. Power and volume down the device booted as normally. Solution for me: the device was still on (fast boot mode). Try to hold power down when device turned on until the softbuttons start to flash a few times. Screen will go blank. Now push and hold volume down button. The device should start to the bootloader.
Good luck!

1) Turn your One X on.
2) Wait for the HTC logo to appear.
3) Hold the power button and the volume down button, release power button 2 seconds after the screen goes black.
4) If you don't boot into fastboot repeat step 3 until it does, it should boot into fastboot, most times the issues is that the phone won't boot into recovery.
5) Once in fastboot, open up command prompt in your folder with fastboot.exe and execute the command fastboot erase cache.
6) Boot into recovery, flash a rom that should work, in our case don't try flashing the Android Revolution rom, it might have corrupted when downloading or copying.
Yesterday I wanted to flash the new CWM (5.8.4.0) but I accidentally flash using fastboot boot boot.img
Then it kept rebooting into recovery
After panicking a few times, I used Hasoon2000's allinonekit to flash stock recovery, stock kernel, relocked and reunlocked bootloader, factory reset through hboot.
Now im in a bootloop but instead of the usual htc with beats that i usually get, a simple logo featuring the word "android" is all that showed up on my screen. Sometime when I restart it would show a harddisk or something like that with a green refresh logo. In cwm my phone can't detect my sd so I can't flash my nandroid backup.
Can someone help this noob
Boot into fastboot.
First turn on the phone.
Hold both Power and Volume Down until the screen turns black, after two seconds release the power button only, it should boot you into fastboot, you can also try just holding both buttons, not sure about that so if it won't boot into fastboot try both ways!
When it boots into fastboot, open up command prompt and execute the command fastboot erase cache, this should make you able to boot into recovery again.
Good luck!
I can access recovery now. The problem now is the android bootloops

Do you have any ROMS on your SDCard?
If you do, follow these steps please!
First of all, find the boot.img of the ROM you have on your SDCard, do this by downloading the ROM to your computer again and extracting the boot.img or using franco's or whatever other one there is.
Put the boot.img into the directory where your fastboot.exe is located, boot back into Fastboot and execute the following commands, fastboot flash boot boot.img and then fastboot erase cache.
Boot into recovery from fastboot, Wipe Data -> Wipe Cache, browse for the ROM and flash it, this should fix your phone!
I was running ARHD 6.1.1 before. but like I said in CWM it cant detect my sd,
it says there is no such file. any ideas?

what is your recovery version? 5.8.4.0?
If you flash the latest recovery 5.8.4.0, then you should be able to view your SD Card and also infact,
if you go to ADVANCED Mode in the latest Recovery, connect the USB, it will detect your PC. Transfer the required files.
You have recovery now, try mounting the SD Card. Make sure you have enough charge ( >50%)
Please do not panic!
I will try that. Although i don't know how much battery I have left cause it suddenly turns on and bootloops after I charge for a particular amount of time
did you fix your phone now? if you fix pls mail [email protected] me cos we have same problem im using HOX stock " android logo "
even i put file on cwm 5.8.4.0 SD failed open master mode
After unlocking my bootloader, I decided to flash ViperX and my phone got stuck in the white screen stating "HTC quietly Brilliant". I tried pressing the power button for a few seconds and it would go back to the same screen. I can only boot into Hboot and Fastboot USB. I tried botting into CWM recovery and realized that it it's gone. I've also tried using ADB but no use as it can't detect my device. Any help would be appreciated as I dont want to send the phone to HTC at the moment.

Then boot into recovery (should work this time).

nope... I didn't know that I've to do that as I thought is just like a normal wipe and flash, like my old HTC Desire
Trying to install TWRP v3. Phone is unlocked (not rooted yet as not necessary atm). I'm able to sucesfully push the .img to the sdcard via adb and install via "fastboot flash recover twrp.img" but the moment I reboot the phone and try to access recovery to get into TWRP, all I get is a little icon of an android mascot lying down with his belly open. No TWRP.
I know the phone will auto-overwrite custom recovery's if the correct combination of hardware buttons are not pressed after the first TWRP install (as TWRP needs to patch the default recovery the first time to stop the phone from constantly trying to overwrite TWRP every time) but so far i've not been able to find out what it is (i.e. not the usual vol +- and power all at the same time. Its gotta be something else?).
Edit: Delete his post. I figured it out. Turns out it isn't a good idea to execute "fastboot reboot" immediately after TWRP installation
Don't restart the Phone!
Flash Recovery and the do the following:
Use the volume keys to scroll and power key to select the Reboot Bootloader option. Once the phone has booted back into the bootloader you can use the volume keys to scroll and the power key to boot into your newly flashed recovery. It's now safe to disconnect your usb cable.
