No, the intention of this app is just turning your screen on and off automatically through different ways, like e.g. an iPad does when you open and close the smart cover. It doesn't replace your lockscreen in any way.
Brilliant app. Exactly what I was looking for. Works well with my flip case. Highly customisable .Will buy without hesitation. Thanks

Hi Akshay,
firstly, thanks for making this app, great potential there!! The only thing i dislike about my HTC One is the power button.
Couple of questions/issues.
I dont use a flip cover, so the only option for me would be the Shake, right? If so, how can i calibrate the sensitivity of the shaking? I dont want the phone unlocking when i am walking around.
Secondly, I've installed the app, tested it out, found it didnt quite do what i wanted (yet) and decided to disable it without uninstalling.
HOWEVER i was still getting all sorts of things happening when shaking - vibration, locking but not unlocking etc... ie, i can not just STOP the app, so had to uninstall it completely.
so, two requests here - firstly, are there any more options available for locking/unlocking for those who dont use flip cover? (i personally dont use any case on my One). And secondly, we should be able to completely stop the app without having to uninstall it?
many thanks and keep up your great work! Would gladly pay for the app if and when it works!

Hi. Also using it for HTC One without flip, with simple 3$ pouch. For CoverAlgorithm I've chosen Control Panel -> Sensor Mode -> "Fuse: Shake + Proximity" (3 shakes)
so inside pocket or pouch any shakes will not wake the phone. To lock the phone - place it in pocket/pouch and shake 3 times, or cover sensors in upper-left corner with your finger and shake.
Regarding disabling CoverAlgorithm: when you launch app you should have "Start/Stop Cover Algorithm" button in center of the page. When it is not "glowing blue" - application is off, and doesn't wake the phone (just tried now, can verify this).
great app, btw. Testing battery consumption for few days now, so far app itself is at 1%, which is good, but it doesn't show objective results.
My request is to make calibration of shakes more user-friendly - i.e. I don't know how many milliseconds my ordinary handshake takes place, so it would be great if app can set it by itself after I shake it few times.

yeah, this bit doesnt work for me. Ie i've stopped the Cover Algorithm, but the app was still working (although not properly). Is your phone rooted? Mine is stock.
Also, i dont use a pouch. Well, i've got a couple of different cases for different purposes. Some cover the screen, some dont.
Maybe the proximity sensor can be calibrated somehow, ie touch it twice (once would be triggering the app during the phone call i presume) for locking/unlocking?
cheers
Thanks guys for testing the app
Thanks for explaining too
I know it is kinda hard to use the app as u have not made an neat explaining guide.
I am trying my best to make it better
Moreover, I am also working on an explain video.
For using your phone for locking / unlocking or both just go to settings Then control panel & select Sensor Function whatever you want.
Next, thing about shake mostly you should use Shake & Proximity if you don't have Flip Cover.
Using both sensor will prevent unwanted wake up or locks

Wave Control uses the proximity sensor to detect hand gestures to control music playback (free version) and more (paid version).
Update (10/11/2012): Half of proceeds from app sales from October will be donated to Breast Cancer Research
More Info Here
Update (9/7/2012): New Tasker Support for changing profiles in Wave Control!
I developed this originally on the Note and luckily it happened to have one of the best proximity sensors (at least for my uses). Now I've moved on to the SGSIII and it works just as well! Works best on the SGSIII, Note and Galaxy Nexus. Not so great on HTC phones and SGSII due to their particular sensors (much slower).
There are 4 basic gestures:
-Hover
-1 Wave
-2 Waves
-3 Waves
By default they correspond to Play/Pause, Next, Previous, Enable/Disable Controls respectively.
In the Pro version or upgraded free version, they can be remapped to any of those plus: Screen Toggle On/Off, Volume Up, Volume Down, Launch Google Voice Search, Alt Play/Pause (for MX Video Player), and do nothing.
Popular uses are:
When driving, don't have to take your eyes off the road to try to hit a button
When your hands are dirty so you don't smear crap all over your phone like when cooking or working on car
While on the computer, you don't have to bother waking the phone to change the song (works even when the screen is off)
I'd like to see what you guys think of it. If you have any suggestions for new features or any feedback, I'd love to hear it.

It's innovation like this which win's awards my friend.
What can the sensor actually pick up? I'm thinking minority report here
If swipe left and right can be mapped to a gesture and hover or a quick left right for select then you could look through your phone freehand.
Great idea m8.
An Excelent idea.Very nice!
But can you tell us about battery consumption?
Unlocking, opening media player, pressing next is annoying.
i test it now,it's ok,but why the app need all that permissions ?

I wish I could detect direction. I tried using both the proximity sensor and the light sensor together but the light sensor was too slow and always fired after the proximity sensor so I couldn't interpret direction.
I want to use the front cam but will need some really efficient code (probably OpenCL) so it doesn't kill the battery.

It's about on the order of what the music player uses or a bit less. I do suggest exiting the app fully if you won't be using it for awhile. Running the sensor endlessly does use power. Not that much but some.

To answer calls: turn on Call Controls in Settings and when the phone is ringing two waves is set to answer.
I've got it on my to do list to make it customizable. But for now Call Controls are fixed to one and two waves.

Can someone post the free version ?.. No 3G no Wi-fi near.
I need help with testing for this device and flip style cases.
I had a bunch of requests for Wave Control to have this functionality. Flip Case Control simply turns off the screen with the case is closed and turns it on when it is opened and it is designed to work using as little battery as possible. (I left it running all night ~8.5 hours and the battery dipped 1% more than usual)
IMPORTANT: If your case is black or dark on the inside, the sensor doesn't read correctly when the case is closed. To fix this, put a piece of light colored tape on the inside of the case where it lines up with the sensor (located next to the front camera)
Note: A Samsung based ROM is required. CM doesn't seem to work well.

Thanks! (crossing fingers it works without needing modification)

It works as shown in the youtube video on the I9300 BUT the other versions of the SGSIII use a different proximity sensor and I'm worried there's a issue with flip case like there is on the Note.
Could you guys try it out and see if it works like in the youtube video on the I9300? I'm not in the US right now so I don't have easy access to the non I9300 versions.

Just tried it using my ATT SGS3. It works fine. Only issue I saw was that it takes about 3-5 seconds for the screen to shut off, so if you close then open the cover quickly, the screen is still on.
Thanks,

I've noticed a fairly large drop in battery since installing. About 7 percent in a little over an hour. This was with out using my phone at all. So while it seems it works ok, it looks like a battery hog and I have uninstalled for now.

Unfortunately the Note 10.1 doesn't have a proximity sensor so this app won't work.
At least that's what I've confirmed on the Wifi version. I guess there's a small chance the 3G version may have one. See if you can install Wave Control. I haven't blocked any devices on that app and it requires the prox sensor too.

Wave Control wont let me install from the play store either, so guess thats the end of the road !
Version 1.20:
1. New Swipeable UI - Swipe left for settings, Swipe right for Night Disable
2. New Night Disable Mode - Shut off the sensor at night while you sleep. Saves a tiny bit of battery and keeps you from keeping the sensor on 24/7.
3. Auto Start on Boot works on the Trial Version now.
4. Bug fixes
I'm still not happy with the UI. It's functional for presenting the new functionality but I need to polish it up a bit.
What do you all think?
Any other features/options you would like to see?
Its working fine for me. Just as someone said before, there's some lag for the screen shut off.

Automaton is an Revolutionary step in Automating your Device using Sensors
It is built on the idea that Locking & Unlocking can be more Simple,Fast using various Sensors
XDA EDITOR IN CHIEF Will Verduzco says: “Magically” wakes the device right when you want to use it
The most innovating app for Locking & Unlocking your Device.
Tons of features to come yet.
How it Works :
The most innovating app for Locking & Unlocking your Device.
It uses various sensors of your device like Proximity, Light, Accelerometer, Magnetic Sensors depending upon
which Sensor you choose.
Using, these sensors the app determines whether to lock or unlock the device using special algorithms used in app.
Key Features :
1. High Accuracy :
The app has high precision of determining whether to lock / unlock device preventing accidental lock
2. Flip Cover Mode :
-Proximity : For normal Flip Cover available
-Magnetic : For an modified Flip Cover which an be achieved pasting an small piece of magnet to the flip cover
(Contact me for more details)
-Light Tablet : For tablets not having Proximity Sensor can use this for their Flip Cover
-Fuse Proximity + Light : Used when more accuracy of locking / unlocking needed & also prevents accidental lock-unlock
-Fuse Shake + Proximity : Close the flip cover & shake the device to lock. Open the flip cover & again shake to unlock
3. Pocket Mode :
-Proximity : For normal pocket keeping
-Shake
-Fuse Proximity + Light
-Fuse Shake + Proximity
-Split Shake & Proximity : Both the sensors can be used for performing the function & also functions of the both can be changed using Split Function
4. FUSION of sensors :
Combination of sensors for better accuracy & preventing accidental lock-unlock
5. Splitting of Sensors :
Both the sensors work independently & can also be set different functions (COOL)
6. Sensor Function :
Your the master select what should sensor do, currently only 3 options are available
- Lock
- Unlock
- Lock & Unlock
Choose what you like & have fun
7. Split 2nd Sensor Function :
You can define another effect for another sensor opening lot more opportunities.
For more details refer Tutorial in App.
8. Disable Lockscreen :
Lock Screen can removed for easier unlocking (Till App is ON)
9. To Keep Screen ON :
If your reading something & wanna keep the screen ON till the phone is turned over or Cover is closed then use this
10. Sensor Sensitivity
11. Auto Unlock
12. Battery Saver :
Stop the apps all the features when the battery level of device is decreased below the level selected

EDIT: Seems to works fine with the shake option, but changing the sensor sesitivity or the shake option (duration, count and timeout) in the advanced panel does not affect to the shaking...the phone is constantly locking and unlocking with every minimal movement even with low sentivity and large numbers in shake count and duration )
Thanks for testing the app.
Calibrating shake from advance settings is yet in beta stage.
Well, thanks for telling issue.
I am yet working in it, maybe in upcoming version I will improve it

I thought it was easy to figure out. Worked great for me I had it so when I pulled my phone out of my pocket it would auto unlock
I will give another try later when I figure out why my battery life is taking a hit. I need to remove all possible variables.
What is your take on how this affects battery life?

Hi Akshay! first of all let me tell you this is a very good idea and implemented quite well. reminds me of an app i used to use with my Nokia 5800 (had that sliding switch to unlock which got spoilt rather fast).. there was one feature which i think would be a great addition to your app..
currently the proximity sensor kicks in with just 1 trigger.. but that will be a problem in a loose pocket where it might get triggered unnecessarily (esp if you dont have a flip case).. can you add an option for the number of triggers? so if i swipe the proximity thrice then it will get locked/unlocked.. is my suggestion making sense?
This is for people who has Pixel 6 (Pro) AND Tasker.
One of the most frustrating thing when I using my P6P taking photos is it's difficult to tell which lens P6P is using for high zoom. The phone has a tendency to use the main lens for even 4-5x zoom range whenever it thinks the Tele lens cannot focus or too dark. Main lens with SuperRaz is used in those situations results less detailed, processed photos.
This Tasker task will add a small indicator right on the camera UI which will display what lens is in use now. N=main sensor, W=ultrawide, T=Tele and F=Front. I haven't figure out how to "force" use one lens but at least this gives you a chance to reframe/adjust distance until desired lens is used.
Please let me know how it works for you. The project can be downloaded from:

Seems to be working as intended. Very useful. Thank you!!!
I Love how efficient this project's programming is, and love how well it not only works, but looks like a native feature.

Was thinking this must be straight forward, import your scene project in tasker and that's it. However doesn't seem to be working for me, any tricks? Thanks for suggestion in advance

I tried it for a couple of hours now and deinstalled it again. The function works beautifully, but for some unknown to me, the small indicator field often remains after the cam is closed, meaning I have a permament indicator field (often not with N but with % written in it) on my screen. When opening the camera, that sometimes resets, but not always. It's very annoying and I found no easy way to fix it.

Just found the same as you. I don't like it either, so unless the op is able to fix it, have to uninstall also.

Confirmed, had this happen to me as well. I noticed it pop up while using WhatsApp but it went away when switching to another app. However should up again going back to WhatsApp.
Looking into the tasker project I saw under "CameraRunning", tried adding WhatsApp to the apps list, run profile, go back to WhatsApp where the overlay showed when using a camera function. Hitting back a few times ended up at home screen and the overlay disappeared.
I sum it up to the overlay possibly persisting when using an app with Camera permissions. Maybe someone with more experience can make more sense of it than I can and possible solution.
If you use the camera to take photos, normally the indicator field would just disappear a couple seconds after you close the camera app. However, if you open another app which called out the camera, e.g. scanner apps such as Adobe Scan and/or Barcode Scanner, even after you closed those apps, the indicator field would remain on your home pages, you would have to open camera app and close it to get rid of the indicator, this is really annoying.
roirraW "edor" ehT andLughnasadh perhaps you guys can test if this is the case.

Thanks, you're right. I confirmed with Google PhotoScan (there aren't many apps I allow to have camera permissions). I launched PhotoScan, confirmed the indicator was present, didn't take any photos, gestured back which took me to the home screen, the indicator was still there and stayed there until I opened the regular Google Camera app and then gestured back again.
It worked the same way when I gestured Home both times as well, for completeness sake of reporting. Since I don't use the camera with very many different apps, it's not a real problem for me, but I can definitely see how it would be for others.
Note for further completeness in reporting that the indicator doesn't merely stay on the home screen either, it stays on the screen no matter what other app is launched too until you launch Google Camera and then get out of it.
@lssong99 , any ideas?

Confirmed using Google Lens afterwards.
TL;DR: I made some modification which should make the removal of the UI more robust after switching to non-camera app (including launcher). Please redownload and let me know how it works.
Tasker Share

Description:
It seems there are some bugs/delays/reliability issue in Tasker's Current Running App detection logic so sometimes Tasker will sometimes not detect Camera APP is running or exiting... Thus I reverse the logic to detect ANY non-camera app then remove the UI as long as it's not camera...
Also, I haven't yet find a solution to hide the UI when other app are running which is not stock camera. Since Tasker is not able to detect Camera app reliability. (I tried add a condition that the UI will only be shown when Camera app is detected, but UI never show....).
Anyone has better idea on detecting foreground Camera app?

Thanks for providing this. Perhaps I am not sense enough, I just do not see and feel any difference of the 2 versions. Hopefully somehow you can figure out a way to hide the UI when third party apps are running with non stock camera. It would be even more wonderful if forced lens options can be achieved.

So it doesn't work for you?!
What is changed the logic of detecting Camera App. Originally the UI will be hide only when Camera App exited, now I changed it to dismiss the UI whenever any app except Camera app is activated.
By making this, 90% of the time UI will be dismissed when camera app exited (and another app activated). for the remaining 10%, at least when return to launcher (I am using Nova), the UI is always cleared. I am not sure why it doesn't work for you well...
I tried several app detection method but all not 100% foolproof..... Maybe Joao can share some idea? (He is in holiday now...)

I am also using Nova, yes, it doesn't work for me! To me, both of your two versions are the same, I just don't see any difference. It worked with the main Camera App, but I tried more than 10 different other apps, such as Barcode Scanner, PDF Scan, WhatsApp, Instagram, Lightroom etc..., the UI always presented after those apps were closed, only open/closed the main Camera App could clear the UI.
The real fix for this is for Google to give us more control or sort out the silly Ai forcing 4x on the main lense if it thinks things are too close. You can trick it by focusing far away on 4x and then back again as long as it's not within the 1.2-1.5m focal range.

I still got the same problem. The "UI" (small transparent box with % or N or whatever written it in) remains often after closing the camera app. It's very distracting and renders this mod, sadly, unusable.

It seems you got the old version..... Maybe delete the whole project from Tasker and redownload from TaskerNet again?
I also updated another version which add a timer that will hide the UI if no lens selection in 15 seconds, no matter camera App is in using or not... (If you switch the lens then another 15 seconds are extended.) The UI will be hide after ❶Camera App closed or ❷no selection of lens in 15 seconds, whichecer comes first.
Please let me know if it works for you....

Seems to be working for me. The UI stays on now even if just using 1 camera app but does disappear in around 10 seconds for me. It disappears in around 10 seconds if subsequently using another camera app as well. It seems this workaround is working as intended. Thank you!
I've been using a screen-off-tile from the Screen Off app by emveeha, which did exaxtly what I wanted: turn off the screen and lock it, in the way that allows to unlock with biometrics (fingerprint or face unlock).
In other words: exactly the same effect as the power button.
Sadly, since the update I got on December 29 (patch level Dec 1) the screen doesn't turn off, instead the lock screen shows, often directly unlocking due to detecting my face.
I feel like I've tried all similar apps on the play store, they either have the same effect or do turn off the screen but then require the full password, instead of allowing to unlock with fingerprint/face...
Does anyone know an app that has the functionality like the power button (turn off screen and lock but allow biometric unlock), if possible with a tile?
Alternatively, does anyone know what should be changed on the app I use to get back to the old behaviour? I could ask the developer...
TIA
I had the same "issue".
Maybe something related to security update.. Anyway.. I solved using "One Hand Operation +" by Samsung
Just use a gesture and set some swipe action to screen off..

great, thanks for sharing.
I use Nova launcher prime, which for me is the number 1 for customization.
before the last update of the S22 phone, everything was working, so I suspected the launcher, and sent an inquiry for a possible error, they replied that it was not their application - thank you.
I continued for several days various applications and did not find a suitable one.
Your solution will solve the problem, hopefully only until the next update.

Thanks a lot - I saw the app but didn't want to complicate things, I'd just moved to using gestures (my previous phone, Nokia 8, still had hardware buttons...).
I didn't look far enough to see that the app just complements and extends the regular gesture options.
I took the dive, and just extended the regular "back" function with the "screen off" function, and all is well. So I'm a happy camper now, thanks a million.

it's a matter of habit, and the most I can't stand is that expensive phones are not able to do the simplest application-task of 100kb.
