EDIT: Seems to works fine with the shake option, but changing the sensor sesitivity or the shake option (duration, count and timeout) in the advanced panel does not affect to the shaking...the phone is constantly locking and unlocking with every minimal movement even with low sentivity and large numbers in shake count and duration )
Thanks for testing the app.
Calibrating shake from advance settings is yet in beta stage.
Well, thanks for telling issue.
I am yet working in it, maybe in upcoming version I will improve it

I thought it was easy to figure out. Worked great for me I had it so when I pulled my phone out of my pocket it would auto unlock
I will give another try later when I figure out why my battery life is taking a hit. I need to remove all possible variables.
What is your take on how this affects battery life?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Well, some guys get it fast.
Thanks for testing my app.
As your running nexus just go to settings then control panel then select Unlock Screen Timeout & just select 0
I am sure that your battery will increase.

Hi Akshay! first of all let me tell you this is a very good idea and implemented quite well. reminds me of an app i used to use with my Nokia 5800 (had that sliding switch to unlock which got spoilt rather fast).. there was one feature which i think would be a great addition to your app..
currently the proximity sensor kicks in with just 1 trigger.. but that will be a problem in a loose pocket where it might get triggered unnecessarily (esp if you dont have a flip case).. can you add an option for the number of triggers? so if i swipe the proximity thrice then it will get locked/unlocked.. is my suggestion making sense?

Wave Control uses the proximity sensor to detect hand gestures to control music playback (free version) and more (paid version).
Update (10/11/2012): Half of proceeds from app sales from October will be donated to Breast Cancer Research
More Info Here
Update (9/7/2012): New Tasker Support for changing profiles in Wave Control!
I developed this originally on the Note and luckily it happened to have one of the best proximity sensors (at least for my uses). Now I've moved on to the SGSIII and it works just as well! Works best on the SGSIII, Note and Galaxy Nexus. Not so great on HTC phones and SGSII due to their particular sensors (much slower).
There are 4 basic gestures:
-Hover
-1 Wave
-2 Waves
-3 Waves
By default they correspond to Play/Pause, Next, Previous, Enable/Disable Controls respectively.
In the Pro version or upgraded free version, they can be remapped to any of those plus: Screen Toggle On/Off, Volume Up, Volume Down, Launch Google Voice Search, Alt Play/Pause (for MX Video Player), and do nothing.
Popular uses are:
When driving, don't have to take your eyes off the road to try to hit a button
When your hands are dirty so you don't smear crap all over your phone like when cooking or working on car
While on the computer, you don't have to bother waking the phone to change the song (works even when the screen is off)
I'd like to see what you guys think of it. If you have any suggestions for new features or any feedback, I'd love to hear it.

I've got threads open in the Note and Galaxy Nexus forums as well. I'm fine tuning features for these phones first then will push more publicly.

It's innovation like this which win's awards my friend.
What can the sensor actually pick up? I'm thinking minority report here
If swipe left and right can be mapped to a gesture and hover or a quick left right for select then you could look through your phone freehand.
Great idea m8.
An Excelent idea.Very nice!
But can you tell us about battery consumption?
Unlocking, opening media player, pressing next is annoying.
i test it now,it's ok,but why the app need all that permissions ?

I wish I could detect direction. I tried using both the proximity sensor and the light sensor together but the light sensor was too slow and always fired after the proximity sensor so I couldn't interpret direction.
I want to use the front cam but will need some really efficient code (probably OpenCL) so it doesn't kill the battery.

It's about on the order of what the music player uses or a bit less. I do suggest exiting the app fully if you won't be using it for awhile. Running the sensor endlessly does use power. Not that much but some.

I think I'll need to add a link for the Pro version in the Upgrades tab. This is my first shot at in-app purchases and I still need to support the existing Pro version.
Great appS!!! Working great on my pebble blue..^^ Still testing on battery usage. Report again tmr..

Working on my note. Sorry i know its the s3 forum... But is there a way to pick up phone calls while its ringing... Sorry if this has been answered

To answer calls: turn on Call Controls in Settings and when the phone is ringing two waves is set to answer.
I've got it on my to do list to make it customizable. But for now Call Controls are fixed to one and two waves.

If you don't suggest a better app, I won't change anything.
Must Have Apps for the GNex
Due to popular demand via PMs, I've decided to add a slot to this thread to display some of the best games we can get on our Android device.
As with the app list above, if there's a great game you'd like to be added to this list, let me know and I may well add it in
1. Pool Break Lite - If you like to play pool, snooker, billiards etc. on the go then this is a great app you. There are a few different variations to play in either single player or multiplayer online mode and even more variations if you buy the pro version.
2. FIFA 12 - This game speaks for itself. It's the latest mobile version of the FIFA franchise and is easily the best so far, with it showing vast improvements. There's a load of different cups and leagues to play through and with great graphics with no lag in the slightest.
3. World Series Of Poker - Probably the best game from EA (in my opinion). If you like to play poker I totally recommend this game. You can play Texas Holdem and Omaha in either cash games, tournaments or play for a WSOP bracelet as the main prize. Guest mode is now available for no login from Facebook is needed.
4. iAssociate2 - This is a good choice if you prefer a bit of a brain tester. iAssociate2 is a word association game you have to figure out which words and phrases are associated to each other. Sound easy? Give it a try and you can soon find out differently.
5. Need For Speed Most Wanted - Another brilliant addition to the EA family, Most Wanted finally brings one of the best racing experiences to Android. It's a brilliant game all round but the only thing it's lacking, in my opinion, is 'free roam' mode. But apart from that, it brings brilliant graphics and flawless gameplay.
6. Grand Theft Auto III - Grand Theft Auto III was a crime game which changed the future of gaming and is amazing to play on the go with our Androids. The full console game with great graphics, full features and surprisingly no lag considering it's such a huge game. Countless hours of gameplay, HD quality resolution and visually stunning graphics make this a must for our devices.
Must Have Apps for the GNex
The idea to add widgets into this thread aswell was an idea taken from Goku80 and I hope you lot like it.
So, the list in this post is strictly for widgets. I'll add some widgets myself as a base, but as always feel free to suggest some of your favorite widgets and they may make it into this list.
1. Beautiful Widgets - Beautiful set of Widgets containing clock widget, clock and weather widget, weather widgets, date widgets and toggle widgets with skins/themes support!
2. Fancy Widgets - Personalize your Android home screen with highly customizable clock widgets, weather widgets, home (clock & weather) widgets, forecast widgets, and more with lots of customization options.
3. Ultimate custom widget (UCCW) - If you enjoy customizing the look of your homescreen then this is pretty much a MUST HAVE app for you. It allows the user to create their own pure custom clocks with a near endless array of options to customize it how they'd like. However you want it, you can make it with UCCW.
4. Desktop VisualizeR - Here's another really useful widget if you love to customize your screens. This gives you the ability to make shortcuts and widgets with any image you specify, rather than just the default logos. You can also use this app to give apps a custom icon of your own, which is handy if your icon design doesn't currently exist.
5. Minimalistic Text - Minimalistic Text is a widget app that displays information in a minimalistic way. It can be configured to display time, date, battery and weather information. The layout of the widget is highly customizable throughout.
6. Eye In The Sky Weather - This is for all those who like their weather clean, simple and beautiful. The app includes 12 of the best weather icon sets and the ability to add your own icon sets.

Is there an app that can back up settings?...such as settings for notification/ringtone sounds, notification light settings.
I like to flash new ROMs and I don't want to have to change my settings all the time.

Keep it on-topic guys. I'll be requesting thread maintenance remove comments that aren't relevant, as and when it's needed.
Also, don't simply say an app shouldn't be in the list. Give me an alternative and I'll look into it.
Thanks.

And you definitely don't need an anti-virus and anti-theft apps. You can get both in Lookout, but I only use it for the security features. Don't think I have ever run any kind of virus check.
I also think Chrome should be in there as a browser. Sorry if it was, just gave a quick look.

Hey, I thought I'd start a thread for this phone, I'm banking on them supporting it in a while.
I'm having the same troubles with the Nexus 4 (stock, CM 10.1 nightlies 11/28 and 11/29) that I have with my other older phones, a LG VM670 (Optimus V) with IHO CM 7.2, and a Samsung Exhibit II 4G used with both jocala's CM9 and stock Touchwiz Gingerbread.
The problem is that on a call, the proximity sensor does not turn off the backlight, only turns the screen black. On the Nexus 4, you can still see the buttons, for instance, but in all the others the backlight is also still on though the screen is blacked out. On an OLED phone, most of which they seem to officially support, this would save some battery, but on an LCD it doesn't do anything except for keeping your face from touching the onscreen interface. All other VoIP apps I use (Sipdroid, CSipSimple, Groove IP, Talkatone, etc.) that use the proximity sensor for this don't have a problem with the backlight.
I guess what I'm asking is for confirmation that this happens to others. I'm betting it does, but I've been told several times by support and by the rep on these forums that this is not intended behavior, but it should happen because my devices are not officially supported. I'm not so sure about that though anymore.
Feel free to post other observations about the app.
Hi,
This is Viber's rep.
We'd like to know if this issue is new? or did you always have it? Which Viber version do you have?
Have you tried using stock ROM? It might help....
Thanks,
Viber
Hi, if you're the same person, we've talked in the Galaxy Nexus thread. I've had it since I can remember, but I couldn't say for sure if an older version (older than 3 versions) did it. It's been months, and for sure the latest 2 versions had it. I'm using the latest version now on the three phones. Would you have an LCD phone in which you can quickly test?
I've used stock on the Nexus 4 and the Samsung Exhibit II 4G, but in the case of the Samsung I was told it might be cause the phone itself was not supported. There's at least a couple other people that's noticed this, but I think it's just not a very prominent problem, especially since there are a lot of OLED phones out there. If you follow the next few posts, you tell them there's a proximity sensor option in Viber, but I guess the newer versions don't have that. I'm using the latest version, 2.2.3.
Also, do you know if the issue of messages turning the screen on when it's off is going to be fixed soon? If you're using face unlock, the camera also turns on.
Thanks for the elaborate information.
Many problems concerning the issues you raised in your last post will hopefully be resolved in our upcoming update of Viber for Android (hopefully released soon).
We kindly ask that once available, you should install the new update and test these issues. If they remain, please do let me know here in this thread and we'll run a more intensive test to find the source of these problems.
Thank you in advance.
Hi, I updated today, and the proximity sensor problem still persists. The LCD backlight is not being turned off, the screen turns black. There is even an animation where the status bar and the onscreen navigation buttons hide up and downward respectively, while the screen turns black. I think all this time this is the intended behavior and not a bug.
Are there any plans to offer a true proximity sensor screen turn-off option, like the regular dialer and most other communications apps do?
Also, messages received still turn on the screen.
It seems this update was more focused on social features than other things.
@andy o -
Thanks for the report (we've also seen your post in the other thread).
This update actually contained many enhancements and bug fixes. The Proximity Sensor issue is being looked at right now. Meanwhile, we kindly ask that you take a minute and report the details of the problem to our support team using this direct link: http://bit.ly/ukGVJ0
With this information, our development team will hopefully be able to find the source of the problem, and ultimately resolve it

Don't know what's happening but viber on the nexus 4 hasn't worked well. First I think the voice quality is awful, don't know if the noise canceling is working. And I've tried it in other devices and it works beautifully. Also sometimes the app just stops working during a call.
Is it just me?

Hi @ctexpa -
This issue of bad quality audio quality on Nexus 4 has been reported to us by a few users in the past. We're currently looking into this issue.
We kindly ask that you take a minute and report the details of the problem to our support team using this direct link: http://bit.ly/ukGVJ0 (when you submit the ticket, please make sure to add the URL of our conversation). With this information, our development team will hopefully be able to find the source of the problem, and ultimately resolve it.
Thanks in advance
If I may ask, what is the specific audio problem with the Nexus 4 that people are reporting? If it is distorted (clipped) audio, it's probably Android's inability to let apps control the mic gain combined with the Nexus 4's inherently high gain.
I myself can't say I'm having significant troubles with audio quality though besides that.
Good App
One of the first Apps I installed on Nexus 4, having previously used it on my HTC Desire. Found it works well, Sometimes get excessive lag and what sounds like an echo during voice calls. All I do is hang up and connect again, these calls going to Australia and Singapore (from UK) so normally a few milliseconds of delay on line. An excellent app which saves me a fortune on voice calls.
Screen turned on when a message received
Hate that receipt of message turn the screen on, and there is no option to disable that.
Proximity issue exists along with direct dial
Hi,
I am also facing the same issue with Nexus 4 of the backlight going black, but another thing I have noticed is that it is impossible to set a 'SHORTCUT' for any Viber contact on the home screen. When we select Viber in the Widgets, it returns back to the home screen.
I had the same issue with my HTC earlier. However, we can set individual shortcuts for other 3rd party apps like WhatsApp which take us directly to the chat of that contact.
I would request the Viber rep to look into this and request other to try this and confirm if it exists.
All,
- The disrupted sound issue is being looked into these days. We hope to have conclusions soon,
- There is an option inside Viber's "More" tab that should disable the lighting up of the screen upon incoming message. We have been reported from some users that it fails to work, and we're checking it at the moment. Whoever is experiencing this issue: we kindly ask that you take a minute and report the details of the problem to our support team using this direct link: http://bit.ly/ukGVJ0 (when you submit the ticket, please make sure to add the URL of our conversation). With this information, our development team will hopefully be able to find the source of the problem, and ultimately resolve it.
Thanks in advance
- The shortcut issue: this is known to us, and we hope to resolve it in future updates, but unfortunately at the moment it is not of the highest priority in our development plans. This doesn't mean of course we'll neglect it, but only that we are still unsure when exactly we will attend to this feature.

I believe you were refering to "New message popup" which is a different thing. Anyway it is unchecked at my end, and the screen still turn on.
I have lodged a bug report, but your colleague explained that it is by design that the screen will be turned on when a message is received.
To me it is unnecessary. Native notification and most 3rd party messengers (e.g. Whatsapp) do not have this behavior or at least have it as an option.
Just because iPhone has this doesnt mean Android need it; most of the Android phones have a notification light.
Separately I have also lodged a feature request to have this set as an user option, whether to have the screen turn on.
Thanks for looking into user feedback in the forum =)
@zhuozhi211-
I understand your meaning now - I apologize for the confusion. We do have an option for unlocking the screen or keeping it unlocked, but it is true (as you said) that the screen always lights up. When it comes to other applications and services - some of them have similar behavior (even on Android), while others don't, as you mentioned.
We are looking into the addition of this option (have the screen lit up or not), and we hope to implement it in future updates. It is our pleasure (and duty) to be here and receive our users' feedback. Thank you for submitting the ticket and the feature request
I am having a different issues..
--Call counter always start from 30:00 if you look at the counter in Notifications.
--If data drops the application hangs on the black screen with Navigation Bar buttons but you need to kill the application and relaunch it. In other words call is not ended by itself.
Request you to please look into these, if possible. I dont bother much for the 1st one, but please resolve the 2nd one.

I am currently developing an app to make switching between apps faster. I need testers to test the stability of the app and since I don't have any devices below ice cream sandwich I need to know how it works on devices below 4.0. I need about 15-20 testers with phones or tablets running 2.3 and above including ICS and JB testers. If your interested send me a message with what device you have so I can send you a link to download the app with a checklist of what to test. Testing the app shouldn't take more than a few minutes to do.
For testing you will have the full version of the app when it is completed for free.
here is a video of the main feature of the app
http://youtu.be/tWjeLht0Z54
EDIT
I have put the app on the play store instead of on my dropbox.
heres the link to it
Kakudo
this is the checklist for testing:
Swipe left or right to cycle through recent apps
Make sure home screen doesn't come up
Swipe up from the bottom to open favorite apps drawer
Add toggles to check that they work correctly
Add apps to see if they open properly
Hold down to remove app/toggle
Click notification to change settings
Change all settings to see if they work properly
if the app crashes at anytime click the "send a report" if possible with what you were trying to do when it crashed. If the option to send a report doesn't come up if you could just send me message or leave a post below with what caused the crash that would be great.
when beta testing is done you will still have access to the full app and all future updates even though it will change to a Lite version with certain features disabled as long as you don't remove the app after testing is complete. I will let all testers know when testing is complete.
thank you for your help,

thanks to everyone who is helping me test this app. I have just uploaded a new .apk to the play store which should (hopefully) address some of the issues that everyone was having. The update may take a little bit to be published but when it does, if everyone could see if they are still having the same issues I would appreciate it.
The issues that some testers were having seem to be a bit hit and miss because I could replicate them on one of my nexus 7's but not my other one.
Got the update
Will test now and report later
Would be great if you could implement a small changelog in the new functions-section next time
Just posted a new update that includes:
translations into German, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Chinese
Stability fixes when opening new windows
Changes to how the settings menu works
ability to change gravity of side bars
changed the add favorite button so it can't be clicked more than once in a row (still working on a visual feedback)
thanks to all who have been testing and giving feedback to help me improve Kakudo

Thanks for testing my app. I just released a new update that should address the issue of the dropdown list for the background; its a scrollable view now to fit all the colors in to the list. when you have time if you could check to see if it works properly I would appreciate it.

for anyone who is still experiencing force closes and is sending reports please include:
Android version
What you tried to do that caused the crash (ex. Swipe right/left and if it happens everytime or just for a certain app, open favorites drawer, adding favorite, changing a setting/what setting you were changing)
I received two reports today one for activityNotFound which I believe is on an Android 2.3 device but can't be sure of. The other was a nullPointerException in which the log only shows a problem with the standout library that I use and nothing about what window in my app caused the crash. Without context as to what the user was trying to do I don't know where to start to look to solve these issues.
I am trying my hardest to improve my app and appreciate all the help I have received but I can't improve it further when I don't know what action is causing these force closes.
Just released what I hope will be the last beta update. Changes include:
Rewritten Toggles
All toggles except GPS should now work on Samsung toggles. I didn't change the GPS because I like they hack for the power controls so I don't have to leave the activity I am in. All toggles however will now change image to correspond with on/off and brightness level.
Notification Icon
The Notification Icon can now be hidden from the top bar. On newer devices it will hide after you hit done.
Certain Stability issues were addressed
Hopefully I found the problem with android 2.3 giving an ActivityNotFound exception when swiping left and right
If all the testers could just check to make sure these things are working correctly I hope beta testing will be complete.
A big thank you goes out to all the testers who helped me improve my app.
EDIT:
I had accidentally deleted the code that would allow beta testers to keep the full version after testing is over. So if you get another update this is the only thing that changed so make sure to download it. Also in the developer console it shows me what version is being used by how many people and I'll try to make sure everyone has the correct version before ending testing.
**VERSION 1.1 WAS A MANUAL UPDATE SO MAKE SURE YOU CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU'RE UPDATED TO THE LATEST VERSION**
Anyway, just uploaded another version which will be the last for beta testing unless I hear from anyone that something is wrong. This version is 1.2 and adds drag and drop for devices running honeycomb and above. I realized last night that I had to waste time just to reorder the drawer and decided to learn how to do drag and drop to implement it in Kakudo so it would be really nice if you guys could test this feature and make sure it is working correctly.
After you download the newest version you may notice that the toggles and the favorites drawer background are wrong. Just reset them and they should work correctly (it has something to do with me adding new items to the sharedprefs that makes it all screwy).
Make sure if you want to keep all pro features that you update to the latest version. If I don't hear about any problems I will be ending beta testing at 8pm est (-5 GMT) today (5/15). If you haven't updated to at least version 1.1 which is a MANUAL update you will lose these pro features. If you deleted the app and want to have pro features you will have to download it before I end beta. After beta is over do not delete the app or you will lose pro features.
if you PMed me about beta testing I will PM you to remind you to update the app. If you didn't PM me this will be the only warning to update or redownload the app to maintain pro features.
Ok testing is now complete and the both the Pro and Lite versions are now available on the Play Store.
Thanks to everyone who helped test Kakudo and if anyone is interested in continuing to help me out testing upcoming versions PM me because Google just updated the developer section to allow for beta and alpha testing apps through Google groups or Google+ Community and I think this will be the best way for testing changes to apps. If anyone experiences any problems with features after downloading the newest update also PM me so I can fix it.
With the new beta testing in the developers console I can now keep testing my future updates.
If interested to become a beta tester you need to be apart of this Google Group: https://groups.google.com/forum/m/?fromgroups#!forum/kakudo-testers
After asking to join I will have to confirm you as a member which I will try to do as quickly as I can. Once your a member of the group you will see a topic that says Beta Link in the group. Go into that and click the link to get the beta version of the app.
As a beta tester you will have full access to Kakudo and I ask that you help improve my app. To do this you will have to participate in the group letting me know how the app is working. If at anytime someone isn't giving feedback about the app updates, I will email them asking if they still want to be a tester. If I don't receive a response I will remove you from the group and you will lose access to the beta version.
Anyone interested just go to the group link and ask for permission to join the group.
Thanks in advance for everyone willing to help.

This is an awesome app and it works beautifully with my flip case! Definitely gonna buy when the pro version comes available
is this an actual lock/unlock app? if so..add an option to use custom wallpapers, widgets, live wallpapers and an option to replace the stock pin/pattern/password window :good:

No, the intention of this app is just turning your screen on and off automatically through different ways, like e.g. an iPad does when you open and close the smart cover. It doesn't replace your lockscreen in any way.
Brilliant app. Exactly what I was looking for. Works well with my flip case. Highly customisable .Will buy without hesitation. Thanks

Hi Akshay,
firstly, thanks for making this app, great potential there!! The only thing i dislike about my HTC One is the power button.
Couple of questions/issues.
I dont use a flip cover, so the only option for me would be the Shake, right? If so, how can i calibrate the sensitivity of the shaking? I dont want the phone unlocking when i am walking around.
Secondly, I've installed the app, tested it out, found it didnt quite do what i wanted (yet) and decided to disable it without uninstalling.
HOWEVER i was still getting all sorts of things happening when shaking - vibration, locking but not unlocking etc... ie, i can not just STOP the app, so had to uninstall it completely.
so, two requests here - firstly, are there any more options available for locking/unlocking for those who dont use flip cover? (i personally dont use any case on my One). And secondly, we should be able to completely stop the app without having to uninstall it?
many thanks and keep up your great work! Would gladly pay for the app if and when it works!

Hi. Also using it for HTC One without flip, with simple 3$ pouch. For CoverAlgorithm I've chosen Control Panel -> Sensor Mode -> "Fuse: Shake + Proximity" (3 shakes)
so inside pocket or pouch any shakes will not wake the phone. To lock the phone - place it in pocket/pouch and shake 3 times, or cover sensors in upper-left corner with your finger and shake.
Regarding disabling CoverAlgorithm: when you launch app you should have "Start/Stop Cover Algorithm" button in center of the page. When it is not "glowing blue" - application is off, and doesn't wake the phone (just tried now, can verify this).
great app, btw. Testing battery consumption for few days now, so far app itself is at 1%, which is good, but it doesn't show objective results.
My request is to make calibration of shakes more user-friendly - i.e. I don't know how many milliseconds my ordinary handshake takes place, so it would be great if app can set it by itself after I shake it few times.

yeah, this bit doesnt work for me. Ie i've stopped the Cover Algorithm, but the app was still working (although not properly). Is your phone rooted? Mine is stock.
Also, i dont use a pouch. Well, i've got a couple of different cases for different purposes. Some cover the screen, some dont.
Maybe the proximity sensor can be calibrated somehow, ie touch it twice (once would be triggering the app during the phone call i presume) for locking/unlocking?
cheers
Thanks guys for testing the app
Thanks for explaining too
I know it is kinda hard to use the app as u have not made an neat explaining guide.
I am trying my best to make it better
Moreover, I am also working on an explain video.
For using your phone for locking / unlocking or both just go to settings Then control panel & select Sensor Function whatever you want.
Next, thing about shake mostly you should use Shake & Proximity if you don't have Flip Cover.
Using both sensor will prevent unwanted wake up or locks
