Incapable of HDR? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Why does our devices doesn't have an HDR option? XS, XAS, and Ion have very nice hardware, especially the camera. I don't know if it supports HDR or Sony just didn't develop the software for our cameras. I'm going to install a port of Xperia Z camera and I remembered that HDR doesn't work on CM10.

I think I remember someone mentioning that the camera module inside of the Xperia S is not capable of HDR. If you want to take a HDR image however you might be able to find a third party app that takes three pictures in quick succession and alters them into one image.

[Q] What would be the best up to date camera app for the Xperia S?

I'm running Cyanogenmod 10 now, but I really don't like the Android 4.1 (nor 4.2) camera app.
The 4.1 camera wastes a whole lot of viewfinder space for the on-screen capture button, while the 4.2 camera only does pictures up to 8 megapixels and it crashes when tapping the screen while recording videos (probably due to the Xperia S being unable to do touch-focus in video mode)
Therefore I'd like to know what the best, most functional camera app of the moment is, for Android.
I'd like to be able to take both stills and videos with the same app, as well as being able to switch scene modes and use other common settings.
And more importantly, it has to look right. I want to be able to access everything I need quickly and it should feel as if it were a stock app.
If anyone could help me and probably others too, It'd be greatly appreciated. :good:
Stock camera.
Maybe Lg Camera.

[Xperia S][CM10]What are the best camera settings?

Hi guys,
I'm using the CM10 ROM by the FreeXperia team on my Sony Xperia S, and I'm a bit disappointed about the quality of the pictures taken with the camera. Pics taken at night with flash, in particular, are always blurry and out of focus.
What are in your opinion the best settings to take decent pictures? How exactly do you focus before taking the pic?
Hopefully this can be a useful thread to share experiences so that we can all take better pics! :fingers-crossed:
I just use common sense. More exposure at night, flash only when I want it. And for the people with a bit more knowledge in this, install a third-party app (I myself use procapture) and control your ISO. That's probably why your photos are blurry, the aosp camera doesn't deal well with iso.
That's basically how I do pictures...
My cam settings are Canon 350D
no seriously this phone can't shoot so it's not worth to worry about settings

What focus mode do you guys use? The default is continuous, did you change it?
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
Within my third-party app, yes, I change it.
I only use the CM app for when I really need a quick shot (nature, family pics etc.), so the focus isn't always good, but I take like 10 pics every time so no worries
And FYI this phone is a great cameraphone. It's not a DSLR, but it does the job well enough to compete with a point-and-shoot (maybe even beat the low/midrange ones).
If you really want great pics, use stock Gingerbread. Fast and fluid, in my opinion better than the ICS and JB camera apps. Will post a screenie of my settings once I get to a PC so I can restore a backup...
I'm using Snap Camera HDR from Play Store and I'm really satisfied

Try flashing modded cybershot app via recovery ! It has superior auto function of Xperia Z and Xperia ZL.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296375
And In case of normal mode i suggest you to use multi auto focus with suitable white balance and appropriate EV.

hi guys,
is it me, or does the camera really suck at taking pics in JB.
Coz i remember i took a pic of london eye at night from the otherside of the river when i got my xperia S and it was :good: but yesterday when i was in london again, tried doing the same, taking pic at night and it was always coming out blury no matter how stable i was, nearly ended up throwing it in the river.
So, any suggestions guys, also, do u guys think the cybershot app with hdr and superior auto really does produce good pics?

Post a photo here taken from camera

Hi guyz,
Sony has packed some awesome features and hardware in this mid-range phone.
Post cool photo taken from Xperia M camera.
And if you like someone's photo then give him thanks by pressing thanks button!
Ok, mayby features are rich like for phone of that class but camera is ****ty.
It's oversatureted with blue color, not only on build in display.
And Focus/Auto Focus is worst in this phone than with any other i have. And the video recording is horiible, zero, ZERO details, video is blurr.
If we talk about camera in low class then Yes, its good.
If we talk about it in any term then its
I'll post an example of the oversaturated blue. My ceiling is painted white not blue. Even the LED lights up blue when I view it.

I agree, if a normal user who bought Xperia M and uses the stock camera app to take a picture, they are going to get a really bad picture... The AF isn't better until you use a third party camera app.I prefer ProCapture for that... But even then , low light picture are still bad..

Yeah, low light videos is a slideshow.
Im wondering, i have the same issue in Lg L9. On stock rom low light videos was excelent, on CM it was like in our XM. I hope that in our case its the software issue like in L9.

[Q] How to improve Sony Z1 Compact camera?

The photos that I take with my Sony Z1 Compact are consistently worst than those taken with my Moto X and Galaxy SIII. There is usually too much noise, too much post processing, too few details and even some strange things as objects that form diagonal lines become pixelated.
I've tried to use other apps like Camera 5 Fv and Google Camera, but the results are still bad.
My phone is using uprooted stock rom, kit Kat.
Is there a way to improve it's camera? Will installing the ported Z2 camera do any difference?
I find that the original gallery sucks, makes pictures look worst than they are. I'm using QuickPic now. Showcases the pictures in all its full glory. Give it a shot?

Unfortunately, KK meant that QuickPic can't delete photos from the SD card, so I have quite reluctantly removed it... Sticking with the original gallery for now.
I've been very impressed with the Z1 Compact camera. I think you just need the right settings.
I take pictures on:
Manual Mode
8MP
White Balance auto
Exposure value 0
Single autofocus
ISO auto
Metering centre
Image stabiliser off.
This give me less detail but very little noise as well.
Just fiddle with the manual settings. I find the auto one very bad. Besides i prefer the 20.7mp to 8mp hdr. it may seem to have more noise but overall quality is much better.

Camera technology

Hi... I bought my G4 at the weekend, it's a great phone! The reason i chose it was because if the camera, and having used it a little it got me thinking how it works and have a question.
So, I do DSLR photography and wanted to try the same things that I do on that including long exposure time lapse. The only way I can figure to do this is with a 3rd party app like fv5. But you can adjust the shutter speed on that even if you have another smartphone that doesn't have manual control.
So my question is ... by using fv5 is it using the built in capability of the phone or is it simulated? Furthermore... Does that mean the built in manual control on the G4 is just a simulated shutter speed anyway and is it any different to just using fv5 on any other phone? When they talk about being the only phone with manual controls does that mean in the real world that its the only one where the stock camera can do it?
Thanks!

Try proshot for time lapse.
G4 is not the only phone with manual controls, there are many ones before it that had it, especially Nokia ones.
The G4 stock camera has real shutter speed control, not simulated. No idea about fv5.
What I like about ProShot is that when you set ISO, shutter speed is automatically adjusted.

Camera api2 allows for full manual control. so apps likefv-5 and manual camera can change things like the actual shutter.
Ramsey - Ok, ProShot has full manual control on timelapse, i'll give that a go - thanks
Eagle1337 - go to know, so Android allows manual control, and its just that LG uses it in the stock camera then? Is it correct that all androids can run manual then if their phone runs an OS with Camera API2?

Oh and can you recommended a good tripod mount phone clamp ? The generic ones don't seem to be able to stretch to G4 size!
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
FV-5 will utilise the Camera2 API if it is available. By available I mean that the vendor (HTC, LG, Samsung etc.) needs to have coded it in to the kernel and drivers for the camera hardware. It can't be retro-fitted in to older devices unless the manufacturer releases specific Camera2 API drivers for the hardware.
If FV-5 is installed on a device without Camera2 API is stitches together multiple shots to simulate long exposure, if you try it on an older phone you'll notice that it does not have smooth 'light trails' and instead has a more 'pulsing' rendition of the image. Unfortunately I don't have the old long-exp photos I took with FV-5 as they didn't come out very well, only ones that I have taken on the LG.

NJ72 - ok thanks, makes sense. Im almost there! With regards to FV-5 and others, do you know why the shutter speed is limited to 0.7sec rather than the stock camera's 30sec? RAW is turned off when i try

Sorry for the delayed reply, only just got the notification that you'd replied! :S
I have had a look on FV-5 and I don't know why it only allows up to 0.7s... It may be a bug because it should allow much longer. I have used Open Camera and that doesn't allow manual shutter controls at all, even though it supports Camera2...
Thanks NJ72 - If you look at the fv5 site it lists the maximums, the OnePlusOne as 60seconds, so the app can do it... But it lists the LG4 as 0.7...i contacted the dev but no reply as yet

Actually, there is a bit that states "LG typically has not implemented any advanced manual capture control on it's camera driver." so maybe thats why!
