The photos that I take with my Sony Z1 Compact are consistently worst than those taken with my Moto X and Galaxy SIII. There is usually too much noise, too much post processing, too few details and even some strange things as objects that form diagonal lines become pixelated.
I've tried to use other apps like Camera 5 Fv and Google Camera, but the results are still bad.
My phone is using uprooted stock rom, kit Kat.
Is there a way to improve it's camera? Will installing the ported Z2 camera do any difference?
I find that the original gallery sucks, makes pictures look worst than they are. I'm using QuickPic now. Showcases the pictures in all its full glory. Give it a shot?

Unfortunately, KK meant that QuickPic can't delete photos from the SD card, so I have quite reluctantly removed it... Sticking with the original gallery for now.
I've been very impressed with the Z1 Compact camera. I think you just need the right settings.
I take pictures on:
Manual Mode
8MP
White Balance auto
Exposure value 0
Single autofocus
ISO auto
Metering centre
Image stabiliser off.
This give me less detail but very little noise as well.
Just fiddle with the manual settings. I find the auto one very bad. Besides i prefer the 20.7mp to 8mp hdr. it may seem to have more noise but overall quality is much better.

Hi, have been using stock sgs camera. Its okay.. but was wondering if there's a better camera app out there.
When I had my HTC magic, camera 360 really improved the quality of the photos.
But when I compare the photos I took on my sgs from the stock camera app vs camera 360, I kinda prefer the stock camera colours.

Have you tried Vignette. It has loads of different settings.
I've only tried the demo version of vignette. And that does not allow the 5mpx resolutions to be used. Besides the array of settings, does vignette actually improve the quality of the photos taken? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
The full version of Vignette does indeed take better quality images, but it takes significantly more time to process the photos.
i just tried vignette and the quality was near enough the same .. refunded it cos it wasnt worth the money
the camera is the only thing i dont like about this phone
Have you tried the Photoshop app? Its not exactly a camera application but it has lots of settings for touching photos up afterwards. Maybe one of the filters will give you the effect you require
I too would pay for a real pro app. Something that will take higher res panorama shots and something with a real HDR function. By real I mean not a simulation and not tone mapping from the gallery pics. There's a app for the iDevices that works wonders on the iP4. Tried everything so far, still waiting.
Try: camera 360 pro

360 pro simulates HDR and simulates a lot of other stuff, we need a app that actually takes better shots etc. At least that's my experience with it.
The camera apps on the android market are really sub-par.
I don't use the camera much to begin with, but an app as good as Hipstamatic or Camera Pro like on the iPhone would be great.
Vignette has an ugly interface and has average picture quality, and Retro Camera has horrible picture quality.
As I'm big photography fan, I use my Xperia Arc to take photos. Photos are very live and colors are very vivid, but I have some problems with camera, I have focus problems while taking video, when I press cam button it wont focus that minute it needs some time, about 10 secs to re-focus, as for Auto focus as for Face Detection in any scene mode. In additon I'm looking for BURST mode, because I managed to take photos of lightnings with my C905 and this phone has very slow camera, I'd ask to improve the driver somehow. And anyone would edit camera driver so we could change the iso and other options it would be great. Please suggest anything , maybe application or something. Thanks in advance.!
You may use this app, it's just like BestPic..
Pick Pic Camera
Arc or any android phone doesn't have camdrivers like that of C905.. If manual controls were possible, we would have seen it by now.
Check out this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro . It's paid, but you can adjust ISO, custom exposure, save in PNG and some more. Don't know if some options work, but I tried it with longer exposure (10 secs, under very bad light) and while I got a black photo with stock camera, this got me something a bit better. But there is a lot of color loss with custom exposure (the pics turn out pinkish on the places where there's light).

Which application did you use eventually and you are able to take better looking photos?
I use Camera360 Ultimate - quite often, it takes full resolution photo, not HD or Full HD that's one of the reasons I use it.
you can also use lgcamera (not LG related). there is a thread in the app section
^^ +1 to that! Though I use it mainly for some custom video bitrate settings

What do you set for great macro photos?
What about panorama mode?

Im using Camera Zoom FX, great camera apps, almost all the time using default or auto setting, can capture great pictures.
Stock camera app from Sony have some problem with the focus when taking picture at dark place, the picture taken also quite blurry.
majority of the time out of focus.
I have Xperia S ICS (.55) and I use Stock Camera cuz its the Best.
Normally I use Auto but I already Customize Norma Mode for use in different Mood.
I use Cybershot mod with HDR

Same as this guy.
I don't know why Camera Zoom FX always takes better pictures than the stock camera app
I'm really interested in Camera Zoom FX. Does anyone know if it works on Cyanogenmod 10? The stock camera app on it doesn't have enough settings
Hi guys,
I'm using the CM10 ROM by the FreeXperia team on my Sony Xperia S, and I'm a bit disappointed about the quality of the pictures taken with the camera. Pics taken at night with flash, in particular, are always blurry and out of focus.
What are in your opinion the best settings to take decent pictures? How exactly do you focus before taking the pic?
Hopefully this can be a useful thread to share experiences so that we can all take better pics! :fingers-crossed:
I just use common sense. More exposure at night, flash only when I want it. And for the people with a bit more knowledge in this, install a third-party app (I myself use procapture) and control your ISO. That's probably why your photos are blurry, the aosp camera doesn't deal well with iso.
That's basically how I do pictures...
My cam settings are Canon 350D
no seriously this phone can't shoot so it's not worth to worry about settings

What focus mode do you guys use? The default is continuous, did you change it?
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
Within my third-party app, yes, I change it.
I only use the CM app for when I really need a quick shot (nature, family pics etc.), so the focus isn't always good, but I take like 10 pics every time so no worries
And FYI this phone is a great cameraphone. It's not a DSLR, but it does the job well enough to compete with a point-and-shoot (maybe even beat the low/midrange ones).
If you really want great pics, use stock Gingerbread. Fast and fluid, in my opinion better than the ICS and JB camera apps. Will post a screenie of my settings once I get to a PC so I can restore a backup...
I'm using Snap Camera HDR from Play Store and I'm really satisfied

Try flashing modded cybershot app via recovery ! It has superior auto function of Xperia Z and Xperia ZL.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296375
And In case of normal mode i suggest you to use multi auto focus with suitable white balance and appropriate EV.

hi guys,
is it me, or does the camera really suck at taking pics in JB.
Coz i remember i took a pic of london eye at night from the otherside of the river when i got my xperia S and it was :good: but yesterday when i was in london again, tried doing the same, taking pic at night and it was always coming out blury no matter how stable i was, nearly ended up throwing it in the river.
So, any suggestions guys, also, do u guys think the cybershot app with hdr and superior auto really does produce good pics?
Hi guyz,
Sony has packed some awesome features and hardware in this mid-range phone.
Post cool photo taken from Xperia M camera.
And if you like someone's photo then give him thanks by pressing thanks button!
Ok, mayby features are rich like for phone of that class but camera is ****ty.
It's oversatureted with blue color, not only on build in display.
And Focus/Auto Focus is worst in this phone than with any other i have. And the video recording is horiible, zero, ZERO details, video is blurr.
If we talk about camera in low class then Yes, its good.
If we talk about it in any term then its
I'll post an example of the oversaturated blue. My ceiling is painted white not blue. Even the LED lights up blue when I view it.

I agree, if a normal user who bought Xperia M and uses the stock camera app to take a picture, they are going to get a really bad picture... The AF isn't better until you use a third party camera app.I prefer ProCapture for that... But even then , low light picture are still bad..

Yeah, low light videos is a slideshow.
Im wondering, i have the same issue in Lg L9. On stock rom low light videos was excelent, on CM it was like in our XM. I hope that in our case its the software issue like in L9.
