New to smartphone enhancing - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum and new to smartphone enhancing. I'm currently running build 6 of AOKP 4.2.2 on my AT&T Note II along with Apex launcher; its been a killer combo for me so far. I would like to find a good kernel that will run nicely at 1800. I haven't been able to find many kernels compatible with AOKP however. Anyways, I just wanted to say hi and I'm glad to be apart of the community.

Welcome Matt! I don't have a kernel suggestion for you but I can tell you what most developers will tell you... You don't need to OC this device. I ran mine Oc'd for the first couple of months and it didn't do anything but drain my battery faster. Just a suggestion.
But if you're dead set on trying it out I'm sure you can find something in the development section.

Which ROM in Original Development section should I go to?

There are a whole bunch of cm-like roms, and I would like to go to one! Which one works for you and why?

And I'm on Hellfire JB which is feeling stable and great to me. I remove some "bloat" (in my eyes it is) and I'm happy with it... what you need to do is test them all out for about a 2-3 days to test battery and then switch to a new one to see what it feels like and to test battery again. Over and over until you find what you like. Me personally I like AOKP but trying out new things while everything is moving so fast for these roms. Once you flash official CM10 a new AOKP is out and so on so its hard to base these roms and say which is best. Try them out and you will find what works best for you. Also this thread is frowned upon. Lol.

Opinions On Best Rom (Battery/Performance)

Hey everyone, I will be getting this phone (T989D Koodo) in the next few days and have a question.
I am coming from the LG Optimus One, a lower end smart phone. This will be my first 'major/higher end' phone.
I mainly use my phone for the essentials; texting, talking (and Camera now that I have a good one lol), and a bit of social media.
I don't play games on my phone. My phone will come with 4.0.4. I prefer stable roms with basically everything working.
What roms/kernels would everyone suggest for me? Focusing on battery life, but not decreasing performance to laggy.
Thank you in advance.
Edit: Thought I posted this in a different area(general). Mods please move to appropriate area.

I'd try the Plain Jane ICS ROM for stability and speed. It's beautiful and minimal with performance tweaks. I personally use the MIUI ICS ROM. A lot of people are having sound quality issues in phone calls, but I have none of these issues. I have yet to jump to JB.
Good luck

Honestly, I'd recommend CM9 if you want solid performance and everything working properly while keeping solid battery life. It doesn't have a few of the bells and whistles that Touchwiz ROM's have, but the performance and stability are amazing.
However, if you'd prefer using a TW ROM, try out any of the 4.0 ROM's. 4.1 is neat, but still has problems no matter which one you go with. As for which one of those ROM's... I can't really say that any of them truly shines above another, so the best thing you can do is look for a highly rated/used one and try that out. Worst case scenario, you end up trying a different one instead.

First off, I'm not saying one devs work is better than the other. They all work dang hard for sure.
As far as ur preferences, mine are exactly identical and from personal taste I like jovy's darthstalker. Battery is great, its very stable and very smooth. With the same uses I average about 16 hours before needing a charge. I haven't had a chance to flash version 4 and play with it yet as I'm still enjoying version 3. Other than that, you can always flash all the roms and pick one that suits ur needs...cuz that's what I did. Good luck bud.

PGM2 for SGS3 (POLL)

Hey everyone
so i have been in contact with the dev of PGM2.. he makes a kernel mod that allows you to swipe to turn off/on screen etc instead of using buttons
heres the link to his thread for the nexus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721895
i essentially was talking to him to see if he would be willing to make us an app for our sgs3 devices... as i personally hate using buttons for fear of them breaking or wearing out on me... so i wanted to do this poll to see who would be interested in this kind of thing...
the dev needs to gauge interest to see if people would even want it to make it work his time...
please people, make sure to vote and voice your opinions as i would LOVE to have this ported over from the nexus
thanks!!
Come on people. Vote it up! Vote yes! Lol

I dont have to develope anything. There is someone that is willing to port an already existing app to our devices. Don't have to be rude. I'm saying that the one in the kernel currently isn't developed to its full potential... a little competition didn't hurt anyone...

And of course there is The People's ROM. I think all are good choices. I am sure a moderator will close this, so I'll say you need to just try the different ROMs and see what works best for you. Be sure to give each ROM a couple days to settle and then make your comparisons.

In reality ROMS donr set the precedence for battery life. User and kernel are the determing factors. So like stated find a Rom that works well and then start reading and learning what tweaks users are doing to elongate battery life. But by asking this question I feel I should ask why not leave your device on the stock rom?

Root it, Flash rom, Test drive to see what it's going to do for you. That's the only true way to determine. Yes, this will soon go to rest with the other threads started like it. YMMV on ANY ROM.. Stock or Not.
Flash, and try some of them! It depends on the usage! Also gotta give the ROM time to settle, and do battery cycles. The only way to find out is trying.

It's actually probably best to let this thread die, because as you said people are getting defensive or as you are claiming kernels are lagging. Saber is an outstanding kernel and I had zero lag and ptmr3 is a great dev and constantly improving his work.
I love PBJ too and actually tend to use it when I'm on a custom kernel maybe partially from nostalgia of the charge. Having said that I find stock is the best for me and I get zero lag.
Here's why, kernels are a funny thing what is great for your phone may be not so great on my phone. I have an example above, but another is trinity kernel bootloops me every time and I can't use it, but many users seat by it. So I believe you that you had you tube lag on Saber and I believe the other guy that he had none. Either way this thread is going to spiral into bashing the work a dev donated to the community very quickly, so it's best to just let it die.

I literally didn't even bother flashing it with the separate aroma installer file, until I saw that someone said pbj kernel is great on battery.
