@michealderek
a little bit off topic...
The galaxy s4 has a learn function too on their IR? Anyways! I'll try this too... Combine it with antifish' app should be best of both worlds.

Looks good, I'll try it out

right now S4 can learn ir codes, and HTC one cant. but author inform me, new version with code learning will release on 15 Jun. hope it comes out on time.

hrm strange,,,the One has the ability to learn codes I thought. When it didnt find my TV in 3 tries it had me hold the remote up to the IR and hold the power button until it "learned"

Are you sure about this? I have already browsed through the IR API of the galaxy s4 + Xperia ZL also as a bonus and I am very sure it doesn't support learning IR codes as it doesn't even have any IR receiver. Unlike the HTC One which has one and in fact very2x easy to implement in an application...
Maybe you or the author got the info wrong and switched accidentally?
Edit:
Ok I understand now! The app requires a seperate hardware to learn IR codes No wonder you mentioned S4 can learn IR codes Sorry for not testing the app first before asking.

Good !

Gt-n8000
On the Screenshots you can see n8000 as an option. Will it be fully supported in later versions? Would like to test the learning function, because until now the integrated ir is useless.

Tried it, and it looks very promising... quite a 'polished' UI, even if the translations need a lot of work.
I couldn't get it to actually function (transmit a working IR) at all on the HTC One, but other aspects of the app are quite appealing, esp the 'designer' where a user can design their own remote.
So far it looks roughly on a par with Smart IR - admitting that Smart IR has a much nicer device selection UI, and equally attractive remote control appearance, but it doesn't have quite as flexible a layout scheme as iControl.

HTC one has the senser to learn Not S4, correct me if i am wrong.
I used SmartRemote app on S4 and HTC one, Only HTC has learning fucntion

some android 4.2.2 device have this problem, didn't transmit IR, i already updated the download link which can support android 4.2.2.

I find the ir blaster on the HTC to be better than s4
On HTC you can point the phone anywhere away from the tv and it turns channels and powers off .
The s4 has to be pointed directly at the tv.

WM calculator

Hi Guys,
I am thinking about programming my own calculator for Windows Mobile.
The idea is to get pretty much the same functionality as a normal windows calculator, but then in the mobile version.
Have the main functions in the screen and then at the bottom get a button to pop up a panel with other functions, sorted by calculation type.
I am still open for suggestions, what functionality to put in there.
Btw, I have been thinking about putting the Memory functionality in there or not. Let me know how often you use it.
Feel free to give me input.
Expect the first (basic) version soon.
V0.1 is there. No need to install, just copy right onto ur mobile, will make a .cab file for next update, but don't have time to do that now.
Let me know what you think, looks will change, thinking about having the same lay-out as wm6.5 calculator with the hex letters at the bottom. lemmeknow.
Using HTC calculator.
Sufficient functionality and very pretty design.

what will be different in you calculator other than whats already there in the htc calculator??
I didn't know about the HTC calculator, so I don't know what functionality that one has.
But I will make one that can switch between binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal. And I want all the functionality while in portrait mode.
can you use WM6.5 clacas a base ??
it's beautyful and colourful
only request: HEX <-> DEC conversion

I've started completely over and implemented HEX already, I can probably recreate a similar user interface, won't be completely the same, there I have added the HEX chars (A...F) in the main screen as well, but I still think it's still easy enough to press the buttons.
YES!!!
YES!!! make one! I had the old Winmo version which was brilliant for functionality but **** for design. the htc version looks great, but i hate hate hate the fact that it doesn't have the % function on portrait which i used to use all the time! and even if you use the landscape mode for % it doesn't work the same as the Winmo eg. to add say 11.6% onto 360 was easy - 360 + 11.6 (% sign). you can't do that on the HTC
please make one

It's a good thing that i dropped by this thread... I've been FOREVER looking for a TAPE calculator... just like in Nokia's N-series calculator...
Once you have this. This will make your calculator one of a kind..
MRU features
1. Tape Function
2. Bin, Oct, Dec, Hex
3. Currency Exchange... (It would be best if the rates can automatically be downloaded but if not then a simplified ver will do)
Optional: Floating Pt calculations. (16-bit and 32-bit)
keep us informed.. will be glad to beta test..
hmm, I've never seen that tape calculator. Good one, will try to implement something like that. I already show the calculation at the top. But to get it all underneath each other is nice as well. I might put it underneath all the buttons.
Btw, I am currently only thinking about portrait, I am someone that does not want to have a calculator that is only functional in landscape.
Bin, Oct, Dec, Hex is already implemented (still have some bugs in that part, but is working for 90%)
Haven't thought about currency exchange yet. I might add it in future versions
At the moment I am working on implementing all the functionality of the current windows (7RC) calculator excluding all the special features like the currency exchange and unit conversion.
I'm using most of the programming functions, they are most important to me, but I also want to include the statistics and scientific stuff.

Here is a site with screen shot of the nokia calc
http://tamss60.tamoggemon.com/2008/08/23/nokia-ports-the-s40-calculator-to-s60/
I'm a sales engineer.. so that's why i'm in need of these features... when PLC programming i am using the BIT/DEC/HEX. sometimes Floating point.. but when i'm with client as sales i am calculating long lists of prices... that's when i need the tape feature..
now... if you're getting bored and in need of a challange.. Why not make your calc like Inesoft's CalcNote... I'm using this as my primary calc.. because of its handy features..
http://www.inesoft.com/eng/index.php?in=calcnote.html
just a thought
I will have a look, first thing is to get all buttons, I have now, working.
in the meantime I will think of a way to implement the tape, I could do it underneath the buttons, but that will mean it's not too big, other possibility is to use a gesture and have 1 full screen with the tape so u can see how ur going, but have to use the main screen to do the calculation. Let me know what u think.
Once I have implemented all the buttons to my liking (or not) I will put that one online, haven't worked on it a lot last couple of days, so progress is a bit slower then expected.
hmm, after looking at inesoft's calcnote I realise there is no stopwatch on my mobile... There are probably enough of those apps around, aren't there?

Really depends. On my phone, the camera button is a bit dodgy now and it takes a harder press to get it working. The software button is a much better solution for actual capture, as you barely need to make contact with the screen to register a tap while a button needs to be properly indented.

On my LG Optimus 7 the hardware button has 2 stages, one when you only touch it and when you press it, touching it softly is focusing, pressing is taking an instant picture. And also the phone does not autofocus.

run so smooth..
just a request: can you increase sensitivity? i set it to max.. but for me is still slow ... i'll never use my mouse anymore
Great application, I'll won't use those microsoft mini mouses at my notebook anymore.
I can feel some lag(1080p monitor) does anyone feels it?
I want to suggest a Invert feature, so I can use it like a regular mouse(I can't get used to those new touch pad gestures D
You can get access to mouse and keyboard input, can you input like a keyboard?? Can you allow your app to trigger hotkeys with gesture input?
Tip:
With some AOSP ROMs, you can use Expanded Desktop. Enable it, so you won't missclick soft buttons(And you have a greater screen area).
It's a good app, however you might want to compare to RemoteDroid

Thanks for your feedback, the lay is decided by the signal of AP. Strong signal makes little lag.
The keyboard is not just real keyboard, many features of input method is also supported. And hotkeys will be planed to support.
Are you used to use the hotkeys, like "Alt + F1"?
That's what I'm talking about, ctrl+t to open a new tab on many web browsers or ctrl+s to save a file. Or bind keys to gestures(like home to get to a line start).
Wow.
Awesome.
I never knew such a thing was possible. :|

thank you very much.
Edit:Test with my 720p notebook has a little bit delay when i play youtube on browser!
Wow it runs perfect on my S3 and my N8000.
Thank you for developing.
Working nicely without any problem on Galaxy S3 + win7 (64bit) (asus gamer laptop)
A very nice solution for easy dictation on pc Using the swype beta's dragon voice input background this can be a very powerful tool, not only a mouse....
I would vote for an invert mouse layout as well, or just simply give an option in the settings to place the buttons on the top of the screen.
Another one would be handy: a gesture shortcut for Win+P ,which is the default output selector (only screen1, only screen2, extended desktop, clone desktop)

I'm typing this from directly from the app. It's pretty comfortable and most of the time smooth like butter. Feels like I got sometimes a few hickups and the mouse begins to destroy the perfectly smooth feeling. But overall all I wanted and nearly perfect. Will use live my couch life.
I like that the keyboard comes out if you switch to landscape mode. Neat feature.

Firefox OS port for Desire Z?

Hello
Will we see a Firefox OS port for the Desire Z?
+1 on this

If you read up on Firefox os chances are that our phone isn't the best suited for it and being there are so few developers left here it is unlikely someone wants to pick up a project of this sort that will unlikely run well on the g2/dz

Firefox OS for Vision? Not so sure. It's not even commercial yet (I don't think, not in UK at least) so if we do see it on our device it won't be for a while. Unless you're willing to do it, of course, I'd definitely give it a go if that were the case. There are guides out there, and I'm certain the Vision is powerful enough to run it.
If you're anxious to try it, you can run it on your PC, either by emulating ARM or running the x86 OS.
If you're anxious to try it on your Desire Z, you're probably in for a long wait. You'll see it on Nexus before it comes to our device, and even that has yet to happen.
Patience, young padawan.
FYI, being a long time satisfied HTC Desire Z user and hacking on B2G for a while now (with Nexus S) I started working on running B2G on this device.
While it works not that bad, I limited myself to a quick hack thanks to the fosmaker tool. It needs a bit of help at Gecko and Gaia level :
- hwcomposer is not working, because it is an old version. This might result in some degraded graphic performances
- automatic brightness is gaia does not like the light sensor of this device, and sets the level too low when not facing light
- automatic network selection somehow is not enabled by default by the RIL, we need to force it on gecko side
- data call reply is incorrectly read by gecko, thus making him think the data call did not succeeded while it did
- physical keyboard events are correctly grabbed but do not make it to the destination, I have no ide why yet
- remapping the trackpad to the home button works, but you need to teach the keyboard input mapper layer of gecko/gonk about the Android keycodes for this (since the scancode it emulates is a mouse left click)
- placing calls/sms works, with the limitation that somehow main audio channel stays mute after a call is ended: no sound from keypad, videos, etc. But you can still call without any issue and it might be an issue I'm reproducing on other devices ...
- picture/video recording used to work last week, it got broke, but there's huge refactoring still happening on gfx layers, and gralloc is far from being correctly handled
- bluetooth works, I could pair with another Firefox OS phone (Nexus S) and exchange files
So to have something very perfect there is still some work to do, but nothing impossible if you want and have time. Anyone willing to hack and support this device is welcome to contribute !
This is more PoC patch than totally perfect (even if some part is waiting review to get into master), yet I added support (hackish) for forcing network automatic selection, support for the old ril so that SIM IO works and also data calls.
I don't have the time to ensure active support, but I can help someone who would like to.
Hello,
Those patches got a bit outdated, but current B2G master runs quite fine on Desire Z . Especially, thanks to Michael Wu's help, we have been able to test and acknowledge patches that makes the physical keyboard working, the bug being tracked at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=890186.
So if anyone is willing to jump in and help support B2G on this device, there is some nice and not too hard work to perform to enhance the support, please do not hesitate to ask me
FYI I've updated my branch with latest master and rebased some commits: BerTlvHelper just landed, and it processes FCP Template payload correctly, so I'm making use of it! So far I also fixed data call, the only thing I can't understand is why I have to force automatic mode by hand a couple of times to get RIL to register automatically on the correct network.
Some of the RIL related changes have finally been merged, thanks to a concurrent effort made by sku for supporting Fugu device. Having discussed with him, we are on good track to have the needed changes for Desire Z merged some day .
I still have a separate branch for: data call handling, home button hacking. Meanwhile, I'm stuck for building a complete image because of the lack of buildable sources for either 4.0.4 or 4.3 ROMs for this device. Hacking on prebuilt images has its limits when it comes to having nice and complete support ... If some of you can help me on this specific point any help is appreciated !
FTR, the master-HTC_Vision branch is available at https://github.com/lissyx/mozilla-central/tree/master-HTC_Vision
Just to summup since a couple of people asked me this by other channels: more or less most of the features are working. Major breakages are on Camera and Video decoding, which are broken.
My current setup to get B2G on this device is:
- follow the build steps that are documented on the Mozilla Wiki.
- configure (BRANCH=master) and build for an ICS-based device ; emulator should be fine, I'm re-using my Nexus S source tree.
- make sure to checkout my master-HTC_Vision branch for the gecko repository.
- flash an ICS ROM on the device, I'm using Andromads Audacity beta 5.
- extract boot.img, add a import init.b2g.rc line at the top, and add a init.b2g.rc file from the b2g gonk-misc repository, then flash back this new boot.img
- extract system.img, inject /system/bin/b2g.sh, /system/bin/rilproxy and /system/bin/fakeperm. Also inject /system/b2g/ and flash back this new system.img
- you can use the fosmaker (http://code.google.com/p/fosmaker/) project to perform those two steps: beware that fosmaker embeds an old version of b2g, so you'll have to search for its b2g/ subdirectory in the provided tarball and replace it with what you built.
On next reboot of the device, you should get B2G working.
Just a quick update to let you know that I rebased my master-HTC_Vision branch against uptodate master. Since there have been changes in the RIL worker, I hacked my code and finally fixed the automatic network selection by forcing automatic mode. So this is working not that bad, now
Another quick update with pics to show that I'm not bluffing . One pic of H264 playback on the device from within Browser app, and another of geolocation in HERE Maps.

I'm still pushing to this master-HTC_Vision branch.
FYI, I get camera working if I build Gecko re-using my Keon's source tree
Hello,
I'm still hacking this, even though I have a hard time with the Camera: on Gecko master built from Keon's tree, it partly works. When camera preview runs, if you take a picture, you get a photo taken but it's all scrambled. This does not reproduces with the same exact code except if you turn off the preview in the Camera app (by hacking it). So you can takes pictures, but blindly.
Apart from this, I've pushed rebased code to the master-HTC_Vision on top of current master, and took some time to fix network. I now get my MVNO SIM card with a PIN code detected, I can unlock it, it correctly automatically select network, and I can place calls, send/receive SMS, place data calls (HSDPA).
No big news, I'm still pushing regular updates for the gecko branch for this device, still the same issues
Hello!
Is there any news about this project? Does it build and run?
Thanks!

Well I'm still pushing Gecko to the branch and building it, so yes, it does work, but it's not off the shelf .
FYI I've been recently relying on Desire Z for hacking and testing a LED API in Gecko.
Hi !
I've tried to follow your intruction, and the one on mozilla's website, but I get stuck on the HTC*logo.
Are you planning on adding a new configuration tree for the Desire Z ? So, it would be easier to build a version.
Thanks

No. Thanks for trying though, but I don't have a configuration tree even to build, it's a total hack and I cannot afford spending much time than this kind of hacking. If you are willing to, I can help you though

Will Post my 2 cent for the "New Features" Sony gave us with 4.2.2 here.
1. The Lockscreen and its Widgets.
For me absolutely useless and it looks like someone at the Sony Development Center is trying his first Steps. Why we need all these Methods to Enter the Camera?
For somebody who did not mentioned til now, if the Phone is Locked, Longpress Cam-Button will also Access Cam.
But the worst for me is the Look and Feel at all, a Lockscreen like a 2nd useless Desktop where nothing comes together, Terrible, in my Opinion.
The Way Google or CM does it is way better, easy and clean, but what Sony gave us here seems like an Alpha Build of a non Concept Thing.
Do your Homework Sony!
The Dialpad in Lockscreen, hm, in my Opinion the older One way better, so why we need that at this point of the System, where we can only enter Keys and Emergency Calls....don't Know...looks confusing.
2. Taskmanager and Small Apps.
In my Opinion, Beta also, Google mixed with Sony. Sonys Way before was Looking that they have had an Idea what they want to do, Now, it don't look like.
3. Status, Nav and Notification Bar.
The Toogles had have been there from first Build.....to have them now by Stock....very good....Best I've Seen in 4.2.2 from Sony.
The Way Sony goes with every new Build switching the UI, grey...black...half Transparent, Transparent....in my Opinion, give the User the Option to size and colour the Things for himself.
Conclusion:
Like great Philosophy says....to follow a Path you have to know where you want to be at the End. Don't make any Path your Target.
I'am very happy that the People, Developers in this Forum are existent and trying to make our Devices work for us.

"Opening camera by press hold camera key even when the phone is locked" this thing doesn't need a mention this feature is there in all Sony Phones from days of Xperia Arc and Xperia S (using ICS) and lockscreen widgets thing is optional u can just swipe and enter your phone normally like old 4.1.2 So why complain?
Daydream is also a new feature.
