I have noticed a particular app that is built in CM 10.1 that has options of screen warmth, such as "Cold, Cool, Warm, Hot". Is there something like that on TouchWiz?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I've never heard of an app doing this, and this is odd, since the only way of making your screen warm is to make the phone work Alot, which can probably be dangerous to the phone, I wouldn't recommend using this, and the app isn't included with cm 10.1 I believe and neither on touch wiz, it may be a playstore app, but you didn't give much information.
Don't see the point in this app, unless you wanna use phone as a hand warmer or something

I don't have CM10.1 installed, but I think it's not heat output, but color temperature modifications. This is an article on color temperature that explains the theory a bit.
Ya DEFINITELY not dealing with heat production, haha.
I remember a setting under display that altered the screen mode for normal, movie, vibrant, etc. Not exactly warmth, though....
Juicedefender has a setting, too, for night mode so it's easier on the eyes.
Interested to know though, why do you want to alter the tone of the GUI as opposed to, say, a single photo inside an editing program?

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to shut off the LEDs of the softkeys on the dinc overnight or while watching say Netflix?

Are you rooted?
There are apps out there that can do that if you are. One of them that I've heard good things about but never used is LEDs Hack ( market.android.com/details?id=net.geekherd.softbuttonshack ). Some ROMS give you some control over it, too. I use CM7, and you can muck about in the backlight settings. If you're not rooted, I'm not sure if there's a way, but there may be.
Here's one app that doesn't mention anything about requiring root: Screen Filter ( market.android.com/details?id=com.haxor )
I can't post links yet, since I don't have 8 posts.
Ok, got it. I just hadn't found it under they settings with CM7, but got it now, much easier on the eyes when watching videos at night.

Hi Guys,
I Have been using my galaxy nexus for about a day now, and I have to say that i find the auto rotate annoyingly slow. Sometimes not at all, really frustrating, some apps are smother than other but generally not great especially compared to my SGS2.
Anybody else having this issue?

This is likely to reduce accidental auto-rotations that have been a problem with some phones I've owned, like HTC Desire.
I wish it was a setting that user can change though.
I agree its annoying. I turned mine off but is there a way to turn it manual when you want it? Like a gesture or something?
I've noticed that in the videos. The Xoom does the same way but, ICS looks smoother. Like kristovaher mentioned, it may be by design.
It's just one of these things that you can't change in the stock version of Android, I am sure that in a CyanogenMod there will be options to adjust that.
Its not lag as such. Its implemented into Android as a timer so it doesn't rotate accidentally. Agreed it could be a little quicker
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
yeah the auto-rotate is not as fast as it was on the Nexus S running Gingerbread.
I guess I'll just get used to it.

that could work, although I'm guessing it's more to do with a threshold that has been applied to the actual physical rotation of the device, rather than any delay with the effect of the screen rotating.
Would be interested if anyone tries this!
Setting the transition speed unfortunately doesn't work. You don't need spare parts for it. The development section in the general Android settings has also an option to play with this parameter
Edit: btw I'm pretty sure that it can be changed by playing with the files in the /sys (not /system) directory. A lot of low level things can be changed there like backlight settings etc. My bet is that the file you wanna edit is somewhere in the /sys/class directory. Unfortunately I didn't root my device yet, so I didn't play with it yet.
What about turning animations off???
So far I like it slower. I was often annoyed by accidental reorientation due to normal movement on my Nexus S. This helps make sure the change in orientation is intentional and deliberate. I like that.

Install the MoDaCo rom, that has the tweaked the rotate.
The slow auto-rotation must be a feature of ICS. HC works the same way on the Xoom. My wife's iPad will auto-rotate at the least little movement. I prefer the HC/ICS way.
This is one of the few things that annoys me with this phone. It seems to be worse in certain apps, too. It's bad in gallery, and really bad in a gallery replacement app I use called Quickpic.

What's your single most favourite feature of the Galaxy Nexus or Ice Cream Sandwich?
Mine has to be Face Unlock. It works brilliantly and it doesn't seem to be fooled by pictures of me which is great!
I only have one issue with it being that sometimes I get a message stating "Couldn't find your face" but then when I turn the screen off and back on Face Unlock immediately unlocks the phone after identifying me. Has anyone else had this minor issue?

I just wanted to add that I have noticed this EXACT behavior. It does not happen all the time, but often enough to notice. The lighting is good and my face is clear, but I get "Couldn't find your face" message. Without moving the phone or changing the angle I just turn the screen off and then back on... and it instantly unlocks.
I can't be certain, but I think it has something to do with the phone being dormant for a while... when I come back to the phone I see this issue, but if I am using it often then it does not happen as much. I'm wondering if it has to do with a memory issue or something. Perhaps the Face Unlock feature is not actively in memory and it takes some time... and then just times out the first time.
There's a subtle feature that I read about in the user guide for the GNex, and it's one that I really like - When you are connected to a WiFI network, ICS will monitor your signal and reliability. If the network you are on is very unreliable or has a very poor signal, the phone will disconnect from it in order to use your 3G/4G signal instead.
When I leave work, this used to be a problem, as my HTC Incredible would hang on to the poor WiFi signal from the building, and I'd have to turn WiFi off in order to do anything network related. Now, the phone disconnects from the WiFi long before I even have to think about there being a problem.

Being able to swipe away notifications individually, as sometimes I like to keep reminders in the notification bar if I'm running late on a task, but don't need other stuff like the market update notifier.

I love the whole swipe to delete in general. I love the usability of ICS. Everything is so crisp fast and intuitive.
Scrolling. That's it. Being able to scroll, flick, etc. without having to guess what the phone is actually doing after an input is paramount. That was my biggest issue with gingerbread and I'm glad they've tweaked it in ICS.
i also like the animation from vertical to horizontal and vice versa, very matrix like

However I love the redesigned core apps. Messaging, People, Dialer, etc. These look clean, perform so efficiently, and make using 3rd party apps a stupid thing to do.
Oh! And the ability to increase font size universally in the settings. My grandpa is jealous of this.

Hey everybody
One of the most useful mods I have performed on my Note 2 is a PPI adjustment, which effectively increases the resolution of the screen. I'm not sure why this isn't more commonly discussed, because I think it really takes advantage of the phone's size and tablet-like qualities (especially with the new MultiView update, if that appeals to you). I know many users of the original Note did this mod, which is how I found out about it. I suspect that many other Note 2 users may not be aware of this trick...
WHAT IT DOES
It has the same effect as increasing one's monitor resolution - more content is able to be displayed on screen. If all the icons, text, menus, etc on your Note 2 just seem really BIG to you, this is the antidote.
Look at the two before and after screenshots attached. I would have posted them in line, but as a new user I am prohibited from doing so.
REQUIREMENTS
ROOTED Note 2 - there are other Howto's on XDA that cover this
ROM Toolbox Pro (other apps may work too, possibly including the free version of ROM Toolbox, but this is what I used)
HOW TO DO IT
Root your phone and install ROM Toolbox Pro. Go to the performance tab, and click "build.prop" editor. There will be two entries called "ro.sf.lcd_density"
Within each one, change the property value and the default value to 240. That's four numbers you're replacing. On the last change, go ahead and reboot. Done!
OTHER NOTES
With the original Note, it was common for this mod to break the Market. This is no longer the case. But, there are a few things that break to varying degrees. They're easy to fix though...
TouchWiz: The default launcher will not adapt to the new settings, and you will have a lot of blank space. Fix by installing another launcher. I use Nova.
The Clock app breaks completely. I replaced with Alarm Clock Plus.
The dialer, like TouchWiz, will remain small. You could replace with a custom dialer, but I actually left it as-is because a side effect is that it's really easy to use with one hand.
The Camera app has the same problem. Camera Zoom FX makes a good replacement.
the Samsung keyboard breaks, thus taking down handwriting input with it. Swype works fine, as does s-note.
Aside from those minor issues, everything has worked fine, including all the 3rd party apps I have.
Hope this is helpful to some of you guys.
Seriously, this phone is amazing at 240

This is great. One other app is the email app only takes half the screen on portrait. Really need to figure out how to install the AOSP JB Email app on here....
Another benefit is Swiftkey Tablet keyboard now does the split keyboard on landscape which is easier to type on.
The only problem is that you can't use the handwriting mode with the stylus with the ppi set to 240 because the Samsung keyboard keeps fc'ing. That's my only complaint so far with this phone is that the handwriting mode is tied to the Samsung keyboard.

The market is probably filtering since at this resolution it is probably now considered an x-large device.
Really like this resolution, will need to use for a while to see which apps decide to crap out.
you can also edit the build.prop with root explorer. If you edit the it to be =160 it switched to tablet mode, but crashes a lot
=170 i think its still tablet and doesn't crash

To be honest, with jelly bean letting us choose "tiny" text now and the screen size being so big, I'm not as inclined to change the Res on this thing anymore... in the past with my S2 that was the first thing i would do whenever I flashed a new rom.

Technically the Galaxy Note II does have a higher screen res than the Galaxy S III since the Note 2 does not have a pentile display. Paranoid Android in the future will also let you completely customize the size of everything on your phone without messing up the market due to DPI issues.

anyone with issues sending MMS? I had taken a pic and tried to send MMS but got a unsupported file type or something like that and wont attach the picture. reverting back to 320dpi works.
hopefully the samsung keyboard will work with this in the future, it looks sooo much better with the dpi change .. specially with multi-view (although the menu and border of it doesnt stretch all the way across the screen).
bala gamer is hopefully going to take a shot at FIXING the bits that don't work right at 240dpi !! I especially hope he can fix the keyboard as I LOVE the keyboard.
for the multi window just drag the menu to the TOP OR BOTTOM edge and it displays correctly at 240dpi (the separator is not wide enough but thats not an issue)
Zoom FX is no good since it uses "smaller" images (really small) in burst mode NOT 8mp. I found that out the hard way after I shot some really nice shots and later discovered the res was so small it was useless to me
Has anyone else experienced app icons disappearing from folders? The icon remains visible in the app drawer but isn't visible in the home screen folder.
The real strange thing is the folder treats it as though it's still there. (There's a gap where it would be) If I try to add it to the folder again, then both show up.
I'm having the problem with one app (wifi analyzer) but had experienced it before with other apps.
Any ideas or feedback is appreciated.
I'm running stock and unrooted latest update for what it's worth.

I miss a few on occasion too. ..
Try this. ..
Enable all icons again. ..then wipe cache in the recovery. ..
Then reboot and hide apps again. .
It appears to be a stock bug. ...g
This is one of those bugs that sparked my curiosity to try different ROMs.
Is there any place to read up on known issues with i317? Samsung has really dropped the ball in regards to support on their website. This seems to be the main place to ask questions but I feel like I have quite a few, some are general and others are more android specific.
I think I may be having buyers remorse now. I'm reading and trying to figure out as much as I can but it feels like I've read every book in an encyclopedia set and while I've learned new things the general things still remain unanswered or unfound. I'm not sure if it's device specific, android specific, or an app gone awry.

Every device and OS has bugs,,,it's just part of the game...
The note 2 is a solid and good running device with great support (here on XDA)...and the Rom offering is excellent as well.
If you purchased the device new, and it has any type of severe glitch...you may want to consider a warranty replacement.
Mine has always performed very well on the stock firmware, and although the TW 4.1.2 version is a bit buggy, it still performs beyond my expectations when compared to the note 1...
No regrets here at all.....g
It's been pretty solid. I just get a bit reluctant to try anything beyond stock right now because there are those little things that seem to occur. I occasionally get a blue outlined box around app icons which has left me baffled because it's a rare thing but has happened a few times.
I'm not knocking the phone or its OS. It just seems tedious to find answers to questions. I am not comparing anything with my iphone experience, because it took years for me to become a go to guy with any issues with iOS or even the hardware. I just am finding it a bit more of a challenge to locate a good sgh-i317 based sort of a knowledge base. Do you by any chance know of any good information banks? Or perhaps I should ask where's a good place to start learning more in depth about it?

Sadly if you anything aside from flipping through home screens it disappears. I've tried getting a screen capture of it and it disappears.
