Ok, so normally I hate placeholders, but I'd like to give you guys an update of where I am at. Once I am finished tweaking, I will release. The base rom is done, now the modding and tweaking needs to happen.
So far:
--------------
Deodexed, Debloated, Debinged, and mostly, detouchwizzed. Debinged...even in the framework. I think* all Bing traces are gone now.
Visual voice mail gone, voice mail button in dialer opens Google Voice.
Verizon Wireless carrier banner replaced with something....better.
MMS app will not longer do multi-part messages, but instead convert to MMS automatically once the 160 character mark is hit.
GPS tweaked.
Wow in one day of having the phone you have a rom halfway competed

Wow, I can't wait for this even though we have had bad experiences with place holders, I know this isn't the case lol..
I don't know how many times I'm going to say thank you, but here is another thanks!

along the lines of changes to the voicemail button.....it would be awesome if the ticker's voicemail icon could correspond to Google Voice...but I am sure that is a lot more involved than changing the button's link in the Dialer.
a similar desire exists for the sms icon to correspond to Handcent
I used titanium backup to remove the stock messaging app and that killed the ticker's SMS icon functionality....I saved the stock app to reinstall but that introduces a different problem....the ticker icon doesn't go away reliably after having read the text in Handcent.
maybe this thread wasn't intended for our wish list items.....if that is the case, I apologize.
thanks for your help to our little Continuum family!
thanks for the help here adryn! my wife has the continuum, and i got hers to load red recovery, and the other modded rom.
question on this rom you are building..will it have the bstats and fxpms scripts? are the ones for fascinate compatable with contunuum?
thanks...

curious (warning - n00b question) - would it be possible to make the GV VM connection optional for those of us who don't use GV?
Also, what do you mean by GPS tweaked? The only thing i've noticed about mine is when i'm out geocaching with c:geo or using google maps to navigate while walking, sometimes the compass seems to be off by 180 degrees. when driving, google nav seems fine - likely since it can figure out direction based on previous locations in the same way it figures speed, but i don't walk fast enough for it to figure out direction - especially when geocaching since i'm always stopping to look for the cache.
all told - that's pretty impressive that you knocked out so much stuff in the short time you have had the phone! Thanks for your help with this device!
Any chance you have cracked open the ticker, or at least made it more useful to people who don't use the stock apps (that is... EVERYONE)?
One suggestion i saw somewhere (probably here) really interested me - put the notification area in the ticker screen and make it big enough to fill it, so you dont' have to try and hook into their custom ticker app - just use the existing system one, only relocated/resized. that way all system notifications (no matter what app they're from) will be visible in the ticker, all the time, as well as the time of day, and apps won't have to be custom-written to take advantage of the ticker; they'd just WORK.
I just can't wait till it is out I am looking forward to it

shoot - as long as it doesn't affect anything else, i'd take that over the annoying, noisy crap vzw put on there. is the shutdown screen also black/silent?
I don't have the phone right here handy atm but, I've already downloaded the Rom and alt browser. looking forward to flashing it to my boy's phone! I know he'll be happy too. One thing I love about these Android phones is how they give us the ability to have that "new phone" feeling any time we like, thanks to their rich development community. This is one thing the Continuum crowd has missed out on until now.
One of best features of the continuum is the unique Ticker, which I love to mod directly... But what tends to go unnoticed is the grip sensors that come along with it...
But now, I've tapped into this un-thought-of potential to give you the "Control Your Music With the Grip Sensor" Mod..
What this does is allows you to control your music, whether it be the stock music player, or Play Music, with the Grip sensor by double tapping... You double tap on the left grip sensor, and it brings you back to the previous song (or the beginning of the original song, depending on the length you've been listening to said song), and if you do the same with with the right it will bring you to the next song!
Now you don't even have to turn on the ticker to change your music!
But that's not all! This mod also includes an update to the rotation aware feature I have released recently. Now, instead of just the Standby Screen, the Quick Launch screen and the Missed Notification View screen rotate also! A small update will probably be released soon-ish that will rotate the Ticker History Button within the Music Player, New Message, and Ticker Tape View, too!
This package includes the mods mentioned above, and all the others that came before it, including:
1) Rotation Aware
2) blah blah blah... hahah
3) Modified Browser (aka, more tabs, no 'locked' bookmarks, google search, etc)
VIDEO:
If some wants to upload a video of them having their phone off, and double tapping the grip sensor to move within songs, go ahead! haha.. You could also show off the rotation aware aspect of the ticker, too, if you wanted I will feature it here

thank you for doing all the work. got any ideas why the phone would continue to drop 3g covered. i no longer have a 3g data connection again.
The 3g issue wouldn't be because of anything that I did; instead, it'd just be a bug within this leaked build... Or maybe a bad flash/setup... I've noticed myself the 3g being spotty, but I never use it really so it's no big deal...
And I'll upload the (hopefully) fixed package tomorrow, with rotation of even more stuffs, haha

oh in no way do i think it's anything you have done. I'm just trying to figure out what that is because that's what i rely on for internet a lot of time. it seems to be fine on stock but when i flash to deodex i've lost it twice and have to go back to ec09 to get back. i'll just stick with odex and debloat and see if it's something i'm removing. look forward to the new package. love the updates you're working on.
I only noticed 3g dropping a couple times, and it always came back after a restart, but I was having major issues with some apps/processes not running correctly... G-maps/nav was almost unusable, notifications not working, multitasking was a joke, and my logcat was full of errors and always had seemingly random stuff running. About a week ago I was just about to reflash everything but decided to try the "fix permissions" in CWM first. I research it a little, and some said it would fix stuff, others seemed to think it caused the phone to burst into flames I tried it, and my phone is running great... Apps work, maps work, can run nav and listen to music at the same time again, and my logcat is clean with only the battery updater running. This phone has never worked this well.
So, long story short, if you have to reflash again anyway, try fixing permissions... If you haven't already.

Alright, uploaded the new package Let me know if it fixes the quick settings icon in the status bar, and you should be able to "swipe" to clear the notification in the status bar (as long as they aren't ongoing, of course )
and... I got it, but I didn't get notified :| Let me respond now...
Hey TB, just a question and/or FYI... When the phone is in landscape mode and I go into the custom ticker apps, it won't let me scroll left/down to get to the two apps on the other side of the "X" button. Didn't know if this was intentional or not. Not a big deal, the only times it is in landscape is in the car dock or playing a game, but thought I would ask about it. This is still the best work you've done on this phone! I've been showing off the grip music control and people think it's awesome!
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda app-developers app
That's normal, unfortunately It's an unwanted side effect with using the HorizontalScrollView layout I set it up with... No big deal though
I just finished another project of mine: triple tapping the weather icon will update the said icon and the weatherbug widget... That's for the moments when it doesn't sync, and you don't want to have to hit the little "refresh" button on the widget (Which was a lot for me )
Don't worry, I did finish the the settings mod, where you can choose what you want, this and that, but I am gonna release everything when I am done with the semester
Hey TB! Thought we had lost you!
My 3g went out on my phone, so verizon sent another one. Right now I'm running stock ec09,just rooted and debloated. I'm torn between staying on this that just works, or upgrading for all the new features and dealing with a few bugs. I think I'm going to wait until I can get a new phone and then flash everything back... That way if something goes wrong I can just get a new phone. But.... If you release this then I'll have to try it. Lol
Btw, your Holo launcher mod works fine in froyo!

Rooting doesn't do anything magical, it just gives you super-user permissions. No, you don't get a cape with that.
Don't root it unless you have a reason. If you have a reason, go right on ahead as long as you understand the risks.
I only rooted my phone because I wanted to install Google Wallet. I'm rooting my TF101 because I want to try out non-stock ROMs for it.
Since I need TW's wifi calling, I'm happy with a launcher instead of a totally new ROM. I've used some apps that needed SU, but it wasn't really for anything 100% vital and I probably wouldn't have bothered if it wasn't for Google Wallet.
Don't have a reason, why bother ? Rooting doesn't do anything except get you root. It doesn't make the phone more awesomer.
The question should be "What can't you do with a rooted S3"
Sent from Flip's S3
there are a lot of bugs when rooting. navigation doesnt work very well. sometimes not at all....you'll be stuck on searching for location for 10 mins before you decide to exit out. it has a huge homescreen wakeup issue. sometimes you need to press the home button 4 times to wake up the phone. battery life is a bit better
there is no reason to root unless you get bored of how your phone looks. ive flashed almost every rom and their basically the same.
to sum it all up......if you want themes, make your phone look cool. have the phone run not as smooth then go ahead and root it.
my suggestion is root your phone install a custom rom for a week to see how you like it. you can always unroot it and go back to stock
If you have to ask you probably should just stay stock. Root comes with a lot of responsibility.

I used to have serious gps issues with a lot of ROMs on my SG2, but haven't encountered any yet with my SG3. No lock screen issues, and but to answer the man's question. What can you do with root? Whatever the f***k you want! Lol. Seriously though do some research. I just rooted my first phone a few months ago and now it's like an obsession trying out new ROMs, themes, and trying all kinds of stuff. It definitely comes with its dangers though. You really gotta read carefully and tread lightly. Hard Bricking your shiny new super expensive toy be a tragedy. Luckily I've never experienced that but with plenty of soft bricks (more than I'd care to admit) under my belt I will say if your not too great at trouble shooting then really think about if it's for you. As far as technical knowledge, I had none really. Rooted my SG2 2 weeks after I got it, and it was the very first android phone I had even ever used. There have been plenty of nights too where I spent half the night trying to fix my soft bricks, lol. Overall though I'm super glad I did root. Opened up a whole new past time for me, and the technological knowledge I'm gaining is just another skill to add to my market value. Hope that big ramble helps I some way at least

I'm not going to lie, I like knowing that when my s3 is over clocked, its faster than everyone else's around me but truth is, under clocking to 1.2ghz the phone will still be speedy and as time goes on you can over clock to get good performance from non Samsung supported ROMs. I rooted because I like tweaking phones. And I like aosp. So I have a custom tw ROM and a aosp to satisfy my needs. Also having tweaks too like gwallet, sound mods, edit build.prop and other things.

Rooting does not impair any functions of the phone, nor does it cause hardware buttons to be unresponsive when pressed while the screen is off. The term "root" (when referring to Android) is perhaps the most misused term on the internet. Many people know exactly what root is, but few people correct someone when they misuse the term. This leads to a massive spread of misinformation that's impossible to stop.

Once you root your phone, you can back up all your apps as well as the data within the apps. If you need to factory reset your phone, then all your data is there. You can also:
1. Change your boot screen to please your taste.
2. Get Tethering going for free.
3. Add Google Wallet and pay for things just by swiping your phone onthe register (where available).
4. Change the way your Gallery/Camera looks.
5. Back up your entire ROM just the way you like it.
6. Tweak your phone's setting in more ways I could mention (Like changing the position/color of the clock, battery, and other icons.
7. Try different modems to see which one works best in your area.
8. Many other things Imay have forgotten.
You'll be able to use your phone the way its meant to be used.

well worth it if you just want to extend your battery life. try to JB Frost rom.
Has anyone else experienced app icons disappearing from folders? The icon remains visible in the app drawer but isn't visible in the home screen folder.
The real strange thing is the folder treats it as though it's still there. (There's a gap where it would be) If I try to add it to the folder again, then both show up.
I'm having the problem with one app (wifi analyzer) but had experienced it before with other apps.
Any ideas or feedback is appreciated.

Are you using the hide icons feature in the app drawer ??
I miss a few on occasion too. ..
Try this. ..
Enable all icons again. ..then wipe cache in the recovery. ..
Then reboot and hide apps again. .
It appears to be a stock bug. ...g
This is one of those bugs that sparked my curiosity to try different ROMs.
Is there any place to read up on known issues with i317? Samsung has really dropped the ball in regards to support on their website. This seems to be the main place to ask questions but I feel like I have quite a few, some are general and others are more android specific.
I think I may be having buyers remorse now. I'm reading and trying to figure out as much as I can but it feels like I've read every book in an encyclopedia set and while I've learned new things the general things still remain unanswered or unfound. I'm not sure if it's device specific, android specific, or an app gone awry.

Every device and OS has bugs,,,it's just part of the game...
The note 2 is a solid and good running device with great support (here on XDA)...and the Rom offering is excellent as well.
If you purchased the device new, and it has any type of severe glitch...you may want to consider a warranty replacement.
Mine has always performed very well on the stock firmware, and although the TW 4.1.2 version is a bit buggy, it still performs beyond my expectations when compared to the note 1...
No regrets here at all.....g
It's been pretty solid. I just get a bit reluctant to try anything beyond stock right now because there are those little things that seem to occur. I occasionally get a blue outlined box around app icons which has left me baffled because it's a rare thing but has happened a few times.
I'm not knocking the phone or its OS. It just seems tedious to find answers to questions. I am not comparing anything with my iphone experience, because it took years for me to become a go to guy with any issues with iOS or even the hardware. I just am finding it a bit more of a challenge to locate a good sgh-i317 based sort of a knowledge base. Do you by any chance know of any good information banks? Or perhaps I should ask where's a good place to start learning more in depth about it?

The missing app icons is more of a problem for me. The blue border thing just makes me scratch my head.
Sadly if you anything aside from flipping through home screens it disappears. I've tried getting a screen capture of it and it disappears. It's almost like when you only single click something on a windows desktop. It's a rare occasional thing but drives me nuts wondering what it is or why it happens.

I've never heard of an app doing this, and this is odd, since the only way of making your screen warm is to make the phone work Alot, which can probably be dangerous to the phone, I wouldn't recommend using this, and the app isn't included with cm 10.1 I believe and neither on touch wiz, it may be a playstore app, but you didn't give much information.

I don't have CM10.1 installed, but I think it's not heat output, but color temperature modifications. This is an article on color temperature that explains the theory a bit.
Ya DEFINITELY not dealing with heat production, haha.
I remember a setting under display that altered the screen mode for normal, movie, vibrant, etc. Not exactly warmth, though....
Juicedefender has a setting, too, for night mode so it's easier on the eyes.
Interested to know though, why do you want to alter the tone of the GUI as opposed to, say, a single photo inside an editing program?
