Hi, I just installed CyanogenMod,but the problem is the Play seems to be missing... I tried installing the apk I found within my directory, but with no avail, it would just open and close almost immediately.
Any/All help is appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks, I installed those, and now the keyboard that came with CM10 will not work and constantly tells me it has crashed. Rendering the phone unusable. I then installed a custom keyboard, (found an APK) and signed into my google account, but the phone now will not use the home button, and the google sync and google services won't work.
Do a factory reset, flashing the Rom then the gapps package, then reboot.

I flashed CM7 and gapps.
Now i was wondering how i can get the google apps?
Google Maps
Google Latitude
Goggle Mail
etc.
(would like all the google apps that came originally with the phone)
I'm new to the whole Desire world
I may be wrong with this so please wait til someone confirms but i think you can remove the apks' from another downloaded ROM and install them to your own. Just download the zip file of a seperate ROM find all the APK files you need and install ....
Not sure if any of these files have extra files on the ROM that you need to move with them so like i say please wait for someone with more knowledge to respond
my mistake didnt read the post fully
You can download them from Market.
That's why they're not included in gapps.
I didn't find it in market.
So i re-flashed the CM7 and gapps and got the menu where i can choose what i want to download. But it aswell couldn't find maps and gmail.
I had created .apk for all google apps of oxygen so everything works now.
Thanks for the help
That sounds very strange.
I flashed last night my HTC Desire to CM7, and flashed the gapps universal dpi.
With the first boot I was asked which Apps I would install and Maps & Latitude are downloaded from the Market.
Maybe you had the wrong gapps installed...

Same problem here. I installed the same way as you did, got the same install menue and some google apps were installed.
But not Maps and Earth.
So I tried via market. I find Maps and Earth in market but when I try to download, nothing happens. Can't DL, so can't install.
Tried Nightlies 25 to 33 with same result.
Also tried full wipe, but nothing changes....
I have a question about installing gapps. I found my gapps here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version/Google_Apps
how do I flash them? do I wipe all data/cache/dalvik first just like on done with the ROM?

No need to wipe.
Ok thanks
quick question again lol
I'm with alltel but my ROM says US Cellular..does that make any difference?
i had the same problem with CM7 #34 on the first try (only cleared data/cache before flash)
gapps universal start up just fine, but failed on downloading maps
also when trying later directly from the market the download failed without any error, it just stopped..
cleared data/cache & dalvik cache and reflashed CM7, after that it worked fine..
Very strange, I have no such problems with flashing the google addon.
I have downloaded CM7 Nightly #32 last week, and am going to flash a newer version soon.
Good luck everyone.

That solved the install problem
Still don't understand why I could not install via CM G-Apps or Market, but anyway....
Thanks!
That's probably because you are not in the US and not all apps are available everywhere. E.g. GMail isn't available, for whatever STUPID reasons, in the German market for me.
If you want it, all you can do is getting an app called "market access". It will allow you to emulate a SIM card from T-Mobile US and then you have access to everything.

hi, im new to rooting. i've just rooted my desire with cyanogenmod 7, and the android market doesn't seem to work? i can't download google map or any other apps from it. any help? thanks alot.
any help? thanks
i guess you tried rebooting? that worked the last time I had problems with cyanogenmod, that being said i don't use it daily so I'm no expert
yup, i tried rebooting but it didn't work too..
Try wiping the cache, if that doesn't work, do a factory reset and wipe everything, do a fresh install and put gapps on.
does that mean i have to flash it back to stock rom and start all over again?
Have you tried to flash the G-apps again? Here's the link of the newest one: Google apps choose the CyanogenMod 7 (Gingerbread) version and flash it with Rom Manager or Recovery.
have you modified the .zip file , deleting some files for exemple?
I done it, and removed "Package Installer.apk" one time, so downloads were beginning but stopped each time immediately
Market download issues
I'm having similar issues using GingerVillain 1.9. Small market updates are downloading without issue, larger ones such as the latest Google Maps update are giving the message "download unsuccessful". I had similar issues when the market was updated from the old style, and wonder whether google are tinkering in the background.

i don't think i've removed any of those files..
I am having similar problems. I have installed the gapps, but it only installs a couple of google apps. When I try to install from the market some install fine but others (angry birds for example) don't. I see the downloading icon for split second then it goes away and the download stops.
Any ideas?

Having issues with latest nightly CM 10 (cm-10-20121206-NIGHTLY-maguro.zip) and gapps (gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip).
Here's the process I followed:
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.1.0
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik
Mounts and storage > format system
Advanced > wipe battery stats
Flash cm-10-20121206-NIGHTLY-maguro.zip
Flash gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
After doing this, I don't have any google apps. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, do you?
If you have Google play store and can sign into your Google account, you are OK. Some of the Google apps such as YouTube and Gmail are now not included with the Gapps package as they can be downloaded.
If the packaged failed to install, what are the errors given by recovery?

I know the CM10 ROM includes play store, and that I have the ability to search for each Google app individually and install it manually, but why? Why do I have to?
Recovery does not give an error during install. I get the nice asterisk banner and it says 'Google Apps for Android 4.1.2' then it verifies md5 installs and says Installation complete! Successful.
I have tried with ClockworkMod recovery environment v6.0.1.0 as well as TWRP v2.3.2.1
I find it hard to believe I am the only one with this issue, but it also surprises me that I don't see any other posts with this specific problem. I'm sufficiently confused.

It seems you are not installing the latest gapps from Goo.im. According to this guide. You have to flash the latest available Gapps. You can find it here on the date 30/11/2012.
Try installing that Gapps and I hope it works with you

I appreciate the response. The latest CM10 for Maguro is only Android 4.1.2, which is why I used the corresponding version of gapps. In fact, if I go to your second link, the 30/11/2012, it specifically states '!!Not compatible with 4.1.x.!!'.
It may be time to try Paranoid Android or some similar ROM with gapps baked in. Although I'm a huge fan of Cyanogen's work.

Oh I noticed something now. Actually I read that it is always better to wipe cache and dalvik before flashing any Gapps.
One more thing, try installing the CM 10 only then download GooManager and use it to download and install the Gapps via GooManager.
I know that your method is very fine from recovery and these are only another ways but sometimes using another way really works
Good Luck

No, CM10 doesn't include play store. it comes from Gapps. In the past most google apps have to be provided separately from CyanogenMod because of copyright issue (for more information you can have a look at Rootzwiki's post on Gapps). Since Gmail, youtube, maps and navigator weren't available from google market (now called play store), they came packaged with Gapps. Now, those apps have appeared on google play store so i guess the dev has left them out from the Gapps zip to reduce size of the zip.
if you failed to flash Gapps, you will not have play store. the fact you have it means you flashed it correctly. I just checked with the included apks of your version of Gapps. you will get google talk, play store, voice search, calender sync and contact sync, face unlock, plus a collection of background services. no gmail, no youtube, no map, no current, no google+, no reader. anything the play store can provide are not included.
so, Gapps did install correctly in your phone, but it doesn't have those apps you expected to see.

It all makes sense now. Thank you. :victory:
No custom rom is allowed to include gapps. They are not a part of AOSP, but property of Google. Google doesn't OWN AOSP, but maintains it as a member of Open Handset Alliance, for which they're a major force.
Google asked CM - politely, i would expect - to remove them in the past, because it's the most used, AOSP-based, custom rom.
And stop with those myths that one needs to wipe caches to flash roms or gapps, not true. Wipe data (to switch roms) or format /system, yes, to start fresh; but even then, there's no need to wipe caches. I assure you, no bootloop comes because you didnt wipe caches.

I too was in the same boat but your thread helped me understand :highfive:
So last night i flashed a rom and when it installed i tried to add a google account. I tried to add an existing account. when i added my information it says that i couldn't sign in" there was a problem communicating with google servers." this means that i can't go into the play store. so i went into the TWRP menu to reflash a rom and it doesn't recognize the .img file that is on there. so basically right now i an app-less. any help is welcomed
i still can make calls and text, and my wifi still works. just no connection to google
my device is HTC One M8 AT&T (rooted and boot loader unlocked)
and i have a Mac computer if that helps
Delet your existing Google account from your phone.
Go into Settings > Apps > All and clear cache and data on all Google services:
Play Store, Play Services, Maps, G+ - the works.
Then restart and try again to add your Google account.

That could be it then. Something left behind from another rom install.
As a general rule, if you switch between roms - even from the same base - I would always clean install. Only updates of the same rom are ok to dirty flash.
For a clean install (if you have TWRP) just choose Wipe and swipe the button, then re-flash the rom. You will have to install your apps and tweaks again, but that's a small price to pay for everything working.

On which version were you prior to updating to 12.1 snapshot? If you were on 11.0 snapshot you might want to consider a clean flash (factory reset, then flash ROM, then flash gapps). I did it like that and had no problems so far.
Good luck

Try "open gapps" I always have good results using those. Maybe try a fresh install of Lollipop though with FULL wipes including system. If not at least wipe cache and dalvik after flashing.

Since I have less than 10 posts I can't paste links, but gapps file that I used is the one suggested by CyanogenMod. Google "CyanogenMod gapps". Go to first link (it should be CM wiki page). Scroll down until you find table with version 12.1 "Download: GitHub". Click on it. Now, when on GitHub scroll down and click "arm". Now select the latest zip file (at the time of writing this, it's "gapps-5.1-arm-2015-07-17-13-29.zip"). If it doesn't start downloading click on "view the full file" or "View Raw".
If that doesn't work, try doing as RuffBuster said.
