Review of Klipsch Image S4A (II) headphones with pics!!! - General Accessories

removed.

Nice review. I bought two years ago the Klipsch s4 without controls: they are equal to this new s4 and also the slipcase is the same. They sound very very well if you compare them with the stock headphones of Samsung; I guess that famous and expensive headphones sounds in a better way. However, if you don't listen a lot of music during the day like me and you want good quality, low price, a good isolation from outside noises, they work great for example with Poweramp.
Bye.

Just a quick view above the single button, is that a volume + / - buttons? why it is mentioned on the site as well as box Volume +/- if it doesn't have those buttons.

No, there is no volume +/- in there. Klipsch took a shortcut by re-using the same remote from their S4i model that has volume and multi-function control. With android volume doesn't work, so they just removed those buttons while keeping the same huge form factor and re-branded it as S4A for "android".

It's expensive here in India. I shall pass it for Skullcandy Titan or Sennheiser

I bought these at Fry's about a month ago for $49. About once a month they will run a sale on these. I highly recommend them.

Thanks for the review. I'm a big fan of the S4s, had S4i's (I) for my iPhone 4S but the cat chewed it up and then the 4S kicked the bucket so I picked up a Moto G/4G and have been using my spare S4s with no remote control. The cable is too long and the lack of control is annoying so I'm looking into getting some S4a's. I had tried the S4i (II) with the flat cable and found the cable to be too rigid/heavy (and the buds seemed smaller so didn't hold so well in my ear) so I was looking into getting the S4a (I) but the lack of volume control sort of defeats the purpose, hum...
...now I see Klipsch are advertising the R6m as a replacement for the S4 with "one model fits all mobile devices". Bu what about volume control ? They come with 4 tips so hopefully the double flange ones are still compatible as these were the ones that worked best (perfect isolation and held tight). Anyone tried them?

Thanks

[Q] Recommend good quality in ear heaphones with mic & controls

I am looking to get some good replacements for the ones that came with the S2. The best quality I can get for ~£30 which have a mic and working music controls on.
Which ones should I be looking at?
Cheers
I'm using MEElectronics M6-BK right now and it's a great value-buy.
Using them on my Nexus One. Good performance all around for just $22.
Just search for them on Amazon.

There was a topic for the S4i for SGSII, I believed it worked. Try searching if I don't get back soon enough. Lost mine, that's why.

If you can live with a one button control do, i.e. press once for play/pause, twice for next track and three for prev track then try the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi. These pop up now and then on HUKD for just over £20. I use these with Comply foam tips and using these with Poweramp and the EQ tweaks, from the thread in general disc forum, I doubt you'll find anything better for the price.
Just checked on the UE website and the also now have earphones with vol and track buttons. I might buy a pair to try as I keep my phone under the pillow when in bed and sometimes it get's lost under there when I need to adjust the vol

Beats by Dre work with Samsung with limited functionality. I tried the stock music app, DoubleTwist, and another music app. Only the play/pause button works consistently, although I can't resume music by pressing the button sometimes... And the double press to skip works but is very inconsistent. triple press to go back does not.
But as somebody mentioned, Beats by Dre only deliver good (not great) bass and that's about it. There are cheaper earbuds that will deliver more balanced sound signatures. Klipsch S4i, Shure SE215, Audeo Perfect Fit, etc...
I have the Shure 215 as well. Those have clearer bass than Beats while not muffling highs and mids as much as the Beats..
i just buy a griffin adapter that has a very sensitive mic and controls on it then i use my own decent earbuds iam currently using Sony X-Bass MDR XB20 EX and they are great , well built , tough , good sounding headphones
the griffin i clip can be had for approx £7-£12 and then you can use any headphones instead of being limited by which ones have buttons and mic etc
Only music app which works with triple press (skip back) is Poweramp. The default and all other's I've tried only work respond to single and double press.
In Poweramp you can enable a 'beep' for every press so you know if you are pressing too quick to slow. You can also run it as a service so it resumes at button press everytime and even set options to resume at headphone and BT connect.
The BT connect is cool for when getting in to a car, no need to remove phone from pocket or bag, as soon as the stereo connects music resumes from where you paused last time.
I just grabbed a pair of Eytmotic HF2's and the single click control works for pause, jump forward and back on my 32SGS2. Find the reviews on for them Headfi. I was lucky to get them for only 100$ during a July promotion. With the money I saved (60$) I can justify paying for custom tips for super isolation and comfort. The stock Ety triple flange tips do a fine job. I also bought some Comply's and Shure olive tips, but they don't give a perfect seal.
I know we're all shooting way over your budget, but if you like the Samsung buds (which are awful) if you do get into the 100US$ range you will be absolutely blown away. Think of the extra $ as forgoing 12 Starbucks runs or one semi good restaurant outing for several years of audio bliss.

FINALLY! A decent headset for Android!

After years of iPhone exclusivity, it looks like headphone manufacturers may be starting to show Android users some love. First to the table is Kilpsch, whose S4 have been a popular option for the iPhone. The company is preparing to release a new model for Android devices, complete with it's own App for controlling phone/music player functions:

Found Via Engadget:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/30/klipsch-intros-image-s4a-in-ears-lets-android-users-feel-the-in/
Great find. The remote looks pretty simple, but if it includes volume, next/prev track, play/answer/hangup i'll be happy.
$99!!!
My $10 Skullcandy buds work just fine, and reaching into my pocket to use the volume button is not worth $89 to me.
I'm sure you'll see some cheapo Chinese/Korean knock offs in a short time. Then you can use the knock offs for $15 with the Klipsch app. lol
i use zagg smartbuds with poweramp. half the price and just as good. as a bonus they hang nice around the neck.

Yeah, except your skullcandy's sound like crap, and will stop working in months (I went through 3 pairs before I switched). It's a world of difference.
Anyways, I use the Klipsch S4 with a Jabra Clipper. The Clipper takes care of the controls and I don't have to worry about using my phone at all.
I think skull candies are nice as long as you take care of them. If you abuse your headphone, get better quality ones.
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
Those are more expensive than my beats -_-
Skull candies last for a month or two then one blows out

I managed to keep my 50/50's working for close to six months before I left them in Reno. Plus the remote can control my music player (short press for play/pause, long press for next track, double-press for previous) so I'm good.
Interesting find, although a little pricy for my tastes.
soundid is better. :-D

S4i headphones, mic, and button work on the note 2

I thought one of the hardships of switching from my iphone to the note 2 would be the incompatibility of the headphones I bought that have a built in mic and controls.
I read that the klipsch S4i headphones weren't compatible with the GS3, so I figured it would be the same with the note2.
NOPE! The center button on the headphones works to pause and play music, and the mic works for making calls, talking to Google Now, and recording voice memos. One glitch though, if I activate Google Now by long pressing the Center button, the headphone mic doesn't work. However if I activate Google Now with the search widget the mic works...
I have a Bowers & Wilkins C5 which was for my iPhone. I was sad that it's not compatible with original Note, but it works with Note 2 as what exactly you said. All controls work including mic but a little glitch with Google Now, which is not a big deal. I'm very happy because I like my C5 sound. Love Note 2!

The issue is the long press is baked to Google Now and there is nothing you can do to change that, at least until it bothers a dev enough to investigate.
There's an app called Headset Button Controller in Google Play which adds ability to quadruple-press the headset button for volume controls. What the command does is changes the volume to a preset amount (e.g. 20%) and progressively ramps up the volume to max (e.g. 100%). You can change the rate the volume increases.

Get the image S4A model instead. Same thing but designed for android. I have a pair of meelectronics M11P+'s on their way which are very highly regarded over at head-fi (as an android headset). Wouldn't call either set "audiophile" quality exactly. But they're both very solid iems if you must have a mic/remote.
I had image S4's in the past and was quite happy with the sound for the price.

U do know there's really no difference in them but the volume controls. The android version have one button. I bought some monster isport, Mic works and they done fall out during workouts like my s4a did, perfect

Saw these Sony earbuds (I love my Sony MDR EX38 - it's really made for the iPhone but I bought it for the audio drivers and the built-in mic, pause, play and skip track by double-tapping the middle button -- built-in volume controls don't work on non-iPhone devices). Had it for a couple of years now. The item above looks promising. It says it works with Android products.
Does anyone know if the Bose MIE2i will work with the Note II? They have a center button and two separate volume control buttons.
For anyone who happens upon this thread I hope this post can save you some money and get you a better headset for your hard earned dollars than what the likes of monster/beats/bose/etc. offer. It's not that they're "bad" per se but you're usually paying $100-$500 for headphones that get destroyed by sets that cost $20-$100, all because they have their marketing/branding machines running around the clock convincing everyone they're the best.
Here's a list of headsets with android compatible controls that can be had for $30-$65
Meelectronics M11P+ --- $54.99 MSRP --- $30 - $40 on amazon
These are the ones I just grabbed for myself. Based on everything I've read, these offer the best overall sound quality in this list and they are some the most comfortable IEMS (in ear monitors) you'll ever wear. In the end, comfort was the decideing factor for me because there will be days where I have these in for 10 hours+
Meelectronics SP51P --- $69.99 MSRP --- $40 - $50 on amazon
These came a close second for me and I almost bought them. Overall sound quality is apparently very close to the M11P+ but they offer 3 interchangeable ports you can screw on to the back to change the sound. You get "Natural", "Enhanced Bass", and "Extreme Bass". Reviews are somewhat mixed but most agree that the natural port lives up to it's name and the enhanced bass port should be very pleasing to most people. The extreme bass port, on the other hand is WAYYYY over the top and delivers a sound closer to what you'd get from a pair of beats. Some people would ovbiously love this but it's not my cup of tea because it ruins the mids and highs. Still, you're essentially getting 3 pairs of IEMS for $40-$50.
Klipsch Image S4A --- $99.99 MSRP --- $65 - $80 on amazon
Ok, everyone is aware of these. This was the last set I owned and I was very happy with them. These are also extremely comfortable thanks to Klipsch's patented oval ear tips. They are the most comfortable IEMS I've ever tried and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody if they needed a set with some brand appeal. That being said, they are definitely over priced. Better sound can be had for less. However, as this thread demonstrates, there aren't a lot of other options available for android if you just want to walk in to a store and buy a set.
JAYS a-Jays One+ --- $59.99 MSRP --- $30 - $40 on amazon
These are a pair of bass heavy 'phones. They aren't my cup of tea but I include them for all the beats lovers out there. a-Jays > Beats according to TONS of people and they cost $30 a pair. 'Nuff said.
Do Your Research...
There are tons of other options out there. If you give a **** about quality sound and/or your wallet, I strongly encourage to head over to head-fi.org and do some research on any headphones you may be considering before you buy.

Always been a fan of the Jays Earphones. Had a few sets for previous iOS devices. I'll order a set of the new Fives when my Nexus 5 comes in. :good:
LG Quadbeat 2 reportedly working well and good sound.
As for Klipsch S4A being better than most on the market... market is huge, S4 is okay, but after the year I had mine, I was astonished when I bought my Shure SE215s. Infinitely better than S4. That's not even the tip of the iceberg, either.
I honestly prefer Brainwavz R1 over Klipsch S4.

If you didn't spend more on your headphones than you did on your phone, you're doing it wrong!
I gave up on finding a decent pair of IEMs with controls. Sound quality always takes precedence over convenience. That said, my recommendation to you would be to grab a set of Yuin PK2s and some Yurbuds sleeves for them. No controls, but again, sound quality > convenience. They are buds, not IEMS, but essentially turn into IEMs with the sleeves. Incredibly comfortable, and amazing sound quality for under $100. And just an FYI, I have both the Shure e5c (dual driver) and Se530 (triple driver) IEMs both originally costing $500 each and I actually prefer the Yuins to both of the Shures. They aren't anywhere near as analytical as the IEMs, but they are warmer, far more musical, still pretty detailed and just more fun to listen to. Not to mention the comfort- the Yurbuds sleeves make all the difference in the world, and turn them into the single most comfortable pair of headphones I have ever used (I own a LOT of high end headphones). If you can't find just the sleeves for sale, it's worth it to spend the $20-$30 on a full set of Yurbuds just to snag the sleeves off of them.

[Earphones] a-JAYS One+ or LG Quadbeat 2?

I'm looking for earphones to use with my N5 and I can't decide between LG Quadbeat 2 and a-JAYS One+
I prefer a-JAYS design and judging by their look they seem to be more durable than LG. From what I've read they're also more "bassy" than Quadbeat 2. However LG earphones are cheaper and have volume buttons which One+ lacks (yeah, I know the JAYS app solves that since you can use one button for everything, but still), they also have angled nozzles which supposedly are more comfortable if earphones are worn for a long time.
Does anyone have a comparison or has an experience with any of those two? I'd like to read your opinion on them. Or maybe you could recommend some other earphones?

Of the two you've chosen I'd go with the Quadbeat 2s. Sound good and they were designed to work with the chipset in the N5.
As an audiophile, I'm going to tell you to just go to head fi and do some research over there :silly:
There are some earphones that perform better without a portable amp as they are and some that absolutely require an amp to drive the sound.
Your selection will heavily be influenced by if you wish to drag around a portable amp or just earphones as they are.
I would recommend you get one of those earphones on a list over there that is commonly cited and recommended. Your ears will thank you.
Most of the suggestions here are not from people who actually tested or listened to a large selection of earphones.
I don't mean to knock on any members here but most suggestions are just from people who have had one good experience or one good buy with an earphone but don't have alot of listening experience in comparing the quality of an earphone with another selection of earphones.
One thing that I forgot to mention in OP is that I need the earphones to have built in in-line mic.
After some head fi lecture I think I'll go with QuadBeat 2, since they got some really good reviews, however I'll probably end up with a-JAYS too as a backup earphones since I have a giftcard to the store with cellphone accessories where they are available (wish they had QuadBeat 2 as well but they only have JAYS).
I can tell you now that you will prefer the jays sound. Its more clinical without excessive bass etc. Had and tested all sorts of in ear headphones and these are absolutely amazing

While I agree with everything the1onewolf said, I've also learned that many people aren't interested/willing to go to the full extent of research. For that reason, I keep a good mental list running on earphones for most needs based on a combination of my own experience and reviews from people I trust (having heard other earphones they've reviewed for comparison).
This one appears to largely come down to functionality: 1 button or 3?

Some additional info re: Quadbeat 2
LG has a newer version dubbed the G2 Quadbeat 2 which I purchased via an eBay seller in Korea (could not find for sale from anyone in the USA).
The G2 sounds very fine BUT i have button issues (Nexus 4 KitKat). The diags in "HeadSet Button Controller Trial" show the center button works but neither side button. Thoughts welcome.

My advice: With the Nexus 5 I would suggest going with the Yuin PK3 (earbud) or Yuin OK3 (in-ears). The Yuins pop apart pretty easy and if I have a 15w soldering iron, it's easy to solder in a cord with a mic.
The Nexus 5 has a really good built-in amp, however it's not even putting out anywhere near it's potential. So make sure you get lower impedance phones, otherwise you may end up with something that doesn't have the volume you're looking for. (mid impedance in-ears are plenty loud however)
Anyone know if the remote buttons work on the Quadbeat2 for volume control with the Nexu5?
Have you considered the a-JAYS Five (3 button for Android)?
