Ok well I rooted my HTC droid incredible 2 with HTCdev and it worked fine. Then I installed CyanogenMod 10 with the jellybean rom on it and it installed using this video and it went successfully.
http://youtu.be/ujFWZbgj6bY
But after a while the phone got extremely slow and the front facing camera doesn't work so I decided to restore back to stock. But while doing this with this link and changing the name to PG32IMG.zip and relock my phone but it doesnt work it says "Main version is older! update fail!" so i'm wondering why it's saying this and it won't let me return to stock.
Here are my phones stats...

I was watching this video and he has a different radio so is that the problem?

The radio shouldn't matter. Youtube videos can be helpful, but there a lot of comments here that can be even more helpful.
If I were you, I would get S-off (full root) and flash a stock like ROM.

Yeah I did install a stock like rom on it but for some reason it doesn't update the android store to google play store. I also want to return it to stock because then I can unroot it and sell it later when I want a different phone.
To be honest , there's not much resale value in an inc2 anymore , and if you do sell it , the buyer would probably want root anyways , but since your phone is still s-on , should be as easy as getting a stock image and flashing it and boom , no more superuser . And unless u s-off your device you have to flash something newer than what you have , you cant flash a radio or ruu that's older than the version you have now

I could get an easy 70--80 dollars on it for the condition it is in and I just wanted to know why it was saying Main version is older and stuff since it wasn't going back to stock.

Like I said before
You have to s-off to flash a older version radio . which is included in the package , so s-off or find a newer stock image

So, after finding some amazing Black Friday deals (Inc and Fascinate for free, no activation fee!) I finally decided to get off my 6 month expired t-mobile contract.
Already rooted my girlfriends Galaxy S Fascinate (wow easiest root i've done... also what a beautiful screen.)
Than came all of my confusion regarding my inc.
I upgraded to the latest November update (I know, bad Embrace!) than realized I could not easily root it. It is the SLCD version
After hunting around all of my favorite phone forums I have found a few downgrade guides, and a lot of warning about a screen brick on the SLCD inc.
I have also read that you can downgrade an SLCD with certain rom and recovery packages(amon_ra). But I can not seem to find any clear instructions or any confirmation of what roms work and what do not.
I'm slightly OCD and the VZ bloatware is murder.
I am aware that Unrevoked is working on a fix but I would love to root this thing asap.
Thanks XDA... Second post after many years of lurking.
TL;DR: SLCD Inc, Nov OTA, Need Root.
I would suggest trying to reflash an older 2.1 or 2.2 RUU then root that.
From what I understand using the downgrade methods out there will brick an SLCD screen.
Am I wrong? I would like to think that as long as I am flashing a stock rom it won't brick anything, but If I flash the wrong recovery I will brick it.
Does anyone have any experience downgrading the latest ota with an slcd inc?
I've never had a problem rooting a phone and I rooted at least 20, but for some reason this one scares me D:
I don't have an SLCD so you'll have to wait for somebody else to chime in. As far as I know, the RUU should be fine and flashable in even an unrooted stock HBOOT since it is signed.
I would just make sure that the RUU you are using came from an SLCD phone. An older 2.2 RUU should be fine. Perhaps there are no 2.1 RUUs for the SLCD? I don't really know. But flashing a stock ROM is not going to brick a phone if it came from that phone.
So I cheated.went to Verizon told them I was having random reboots after the latest update... replaces it
Now I'm rooted

Whatever works works, but in case anybody else is wondering, it has been confirmed that it does indeed work if you have the latest OTA to simply flash an older RUU through HBOOT, root it and turn S-OFF, and then you can flash whatever you want on it.
Ok let start by getting a few things out of the way.
1 I'm sorta a Noob ok kick me crack a joke or two I don't care as long as you help
2. I have Htc evo of course running stock 2.2 (baseband ver 2.15.00.11.19)
Kernel ver 2.6.32.17-gee557fd htc-kernel and18-2 #15) (S-ON)
Radio-2.15.00.11.19 and I'm using a Mac (if that help)
3. I rooted it using the unrevoked method.
The device works fine but bit I'm having a big issue trying to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3.
I have been trying to unroot the phone so that I can update OTA.
But no matter how many times I try to unroot it my super user is still there
I would rather flash the phone to a 2.3 GB rom thats 2.3 with sense 2.1 or 3.0.
I've tried this the method found on youtube using the s-on and dropping the image file (zip) on the sd card and flashing it
by making sure you install the (s-on) patch
and re-flashing the RUU (PC36IMG).
but when I did that it said that i was re-flashing a old version.. so I found a newer version.
But when I drop it on my SD card as (PC36IMG.zip) it reads it, checks it then... takes me right back to the Hbot screen like nothing never happen!!!
I've been working on this for 3 days I've even tried restoring and everything.
I've been searching online for answers but I can't find anything that helps either its not up to date or just flat out dont work.
at the end of the day i just want a damn evo running BG 2.3 sense 2.1 or 3.0 would be nice.
oh by the way when i try to run the OTA it reboots startes to load get about 35% then goes to the exclamation mark / triangle.
I'm out of options please help me out! I've searched and read on for about 3 days now.
please either help flash the device to a stable working 2.3 with sense 2.1-3 or un root it so i can update it ota and re root it again...

Wow man, between the general and q&a sections there are seven threads dealing with this very topic. Yet you couldn't find any of them?
If you want to unroot and take the ota you will need to flash the s-on update and run the 3.70 ruu to unroot. Once you do that you'll be completely unrooted and like new. Then just take the update and it should go through without any issues. If, however, your bootloader shows a firmware version higher than 3.70 and you are s-on then I'm sorry to say you are stuck like that.

I've dont that and i still can not remove the root
You'll need to flash the PC36IMG through fastboot to see what's going wrong with it then. To do that download the AutoRoot tools zip and the PC36IMG_3.70.651.1.zip from the link below. Once you have them both unzip the tools folder and place the PC36IMG in it, then run the FlashZip script and tell it to flash the 3.70.651.1 zip
It should flash ok but if not it'll give you an error message saying what went wrong with it. Keep in mind you're going to be completely unrooted if your bootloader shows S-ON.

You do realize that you'll lose root until a new method is found, correct? If you want to stay rooted, you need to reroot, then flash the stock rooted 2.3 rom.
If you want a newer version of Sense, you'll be outta luck there too - the new update is same ol' Sense 1.0.
Just making sure you realize this, since so many people are whining about not being able to root the OTA and being stuck with the uneventful update.

hey guys i got it working thanks for your help!!!!
I have posted several stuff about a situation I am having with my phone.... and I still cannot get it solved fully. I hope I can do it here.
I will try and summarize the situation with some key points.
First here is my current info....
Android Version 2.2.1
Baseband Version 2.15.00.03.04
Kernel Version [email protected]#2
Build Number 1.05.970.1 CL339957 release keys
Software number 1.05.970.1
PRI version 2.11_01c
PRL version 01001
Model Number PC36100
Supersonic DVT1 Ship S-ON
HBOOT-6.17.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_20aa
RADIO-2.15.00.03.04
Now I first rooted using revolutionary and got s-off properly.... I played with some roms and found it fun but not enough time to keep at it..... so I decided to s-on and go back to stock using un-revoked. That semi worked.... I got s-on.... but never lost the root. I still have recovery and everything still shows I have root except s-on.
Additionally, I tried to run the stock kddi ruu and i have gotten every error from 140, 170, 171 and even at one time 130...lol still no luck there. In doing all of that I figured out that the image version on my phone is 4.24.651.1 and I need to get to 1.05.970.1 (the stock kddi evo 4g) but cannot get it done.
Also I am HBOOT-6.17.0001 which is confusing in itself. xhausx helped me by giving me a nanadroid version of my kddi rom but that doesn't allow me to update anything and finding updates here is impossible unless I am running stock without root.
I am not sure if I need to flash a new misc partition, wipe my nand or something else and so not know how to do all of that..... can someone please please please help? I am willing to toss a small reward your way if we get me back to when I bought it.
I think you need to run the RUU for your phone; get it back to out of the box, stock, and just start over.

You have a Japanese Evo, right?
Since it's a different phone, most of the people here will not be able to help you. I could tell you what to do if you had a American Evo, but it would probably either error out or further your problem.
Is there a forum for your specific version? Do things generally work the same as our Evos... like can you use the same RUU that I would use?

I was thinking if this will work somthing I might do if everything fails? Maybe you could try rooting it again and unroot?

The fact that I have a Japanese evo doesn't mean that anyone will not be able to help me. This is actually the place where the developers made the first RUU for the Japanese evo to begin with. There are plenty of pro's here.... we just need to find the right solution for me. Additionally, most everything works the same.... I cannot use the same RUU as you because the cid will come up different and cause me more probs.

Fixed
I have fixed my phone since I last posted this thread... thanks to all those that helped me solve my issues.
Alright, about a year ago I rooted my HTC supersonic EVO 4G, and I loaded kings rom r5. After a while I had a problem with my screen which needed replacement, so I attempted to unroot the phone and take it in. It runs just like a normal HTC EVO, and shows no signs of being rooted. Here recently I have become interested in re-rooting my phone, and I am having a lot of trouble doing so. Here are all the specs of my phone that you should need:
Hardware Version - 0003
Android - 2.3.5
Software Number - 4.67.651.3
HBoot - 2.18.0001
Radio - 2.15.00.12.19
But this is the part that stumps me, the bootloader says *** LOCKED (OOW)***, but the phone says S-OFF which would indicate that I am rooted. Is it safe to reload my Kingsrom R5 ROM, or should I attempt unlocking the bootloader first? Or what should I do?
I usually go to my friend who lives on the XDA site, but he had no answer for me. The only thing he could recommend was flashing a new recovery, but I just need to know where I am standing at this point because I would really enjoy not bricking my phone.
EDIT:
I am also pretty sure that I used unrevoked-forever-SON to try and unroot my phone and it must not have worked.
Just flash recovery via fastboot and you should be good to go

down grade hboot to 2.16 or 2.15
one of two things you could do is either try to root using the new 2.18 root on htcevohacks.com which i did or you would need to downgrade your hboot to either 2.15 or 2.16 and it can be found here on this site....
hope this works for you

HEY! I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, well not exactly the same, but i got a replacement phone with the newer hboot number, search youtube, or just google how to root evo 4g with hboot 2.18, [email protected] htc evo hacks has an AWESOME step by step walkthrough video, that saved me completely on doing this. it took a couple hours, but by the end, i was done, and ready to roll, and have been doing so since, id post the link but my post count wont let me. i promise, this will be exactly what you need.

Fastboot probably won't work. You'll likely have to do it via PC36IMG.zip, which is the easiest/preferred method anyway. I recommend the smelkusMOD recovery from my sig. He already has some PC36IMG files prepared for easy flashing.
I have a Desire Bravo (A8181)
I installed Gingerbread 2.3.3 using the file from the HTC site.
I am not happy with it ( spontaneous reboots, drains battery, other crazy stuff)
I don't want to root so I'd just like to go back to 2.2
Can someone link to a procedure to get back to 2.2.
People are using Official 2.3.3 mostly as a troubleshooting tool or for warranty purpose.
However you cant downgrade it by RUU to lower version. The RUU will not proceed giving version problems.
The only way would be to SOFF using revolutionary and thereafter if you really want FROYO you can choose from many of the stock offerings available at Desire Development section.
My phone is not rooted
Is there anything else to do, besides SOFF and getting FROYO. Do I have to root the phone?

You dont have to root the phone if you use revolutionary. But definitely will have to go SOFF. If you are worried because of brick possibility then you must know that with Android 2.3.3 the way to root is via SOFF. Actually with revolutionary SOFF is the main thing. After that you can flash a rooted rom from recovery if you want which is a low risk activity.
I would personally recommend Mildwild 5.0 based on CM7.2 as one of the most stable rom.
OK thanks

NO need to s-off if u r s-off, get 4ext recovery updater apk install it, run it, now u will have the latest recovery.
now u can pretty much put what ever rom u want on.
Just read instructions in the thread the rom came from and remember to NANDROID BACKUP as soon as u install the recovery.
I did manage to install Mildwild ( I couldn't get 4ext to install so I re did the s-off, rooted and installed Mildwild 5)
Thank you very much for the advice.
I still get spontaneous shutdown of my phone so I have to research this problem.

I think that comes from your device being a PVT1. These type of desires are known to reboot when overheating due to a motherboard problem.

I just ordered an original battery from HTC, if I can't find a software fix to 2.3.7 and if the new battery doesn't work then I will go back to 2.2.
But I think that because I used the official RUU from HTC for 2.3, then I have to use a custom ROM for 2.2. If I am wrong then please tell me, after all these problems I would use an official 2.2 ROM if it would make my problems go away.

The key is you still get spontaneous reboots. That means it is not related to ROM.
I agree with the assessment of abaa.... Your problem seems to be hardware related and nothing you can do other than replace motherboard. However if you want to rule out battery problems just keep it connected to charger and play a heavy game. If it reboots then your motherboard problem is confirmed.
The problem is shut down.
I haven't had rebooots
But I'll try heavy gaming while plugged in
I have a bit of good news, I think
I have made some changes to user options, according to some suggestions I found and have some good results.
After my changes, In 6 days I have had only one freeze ( where the phone was asleep and only a battery pull could fix the problem).
Before the changes I had 4-8 freezes each day, for a few weeks.
I will do some more testing but i think it is because of one of two reasons. Either because I swithced to "GSM only" from "GSM/WCDMA ( WCDMA prefered)" Or because I selected " Use only 2G networks"
I'll play around for a week or two but that is my interim result.
