I still roll with a Nexus S because the music audio is so good with the Wolfson sound chip and the Voodoo mod. Does anyone use a S4 that used to use a Nexus S? I doubt the sound is as good as the Nexus S wolfson with Voodoo sound, but I was wondering how much worse it would be.

The question I have is specific to the Bass Boost feature.
When raising the level on the Bass Boost setting, shouldn't it increase the bass and not decrease it? .. I would think that using it in conjunction with the equalizer would yield awesome results but it just completely blows.
I've tried several options, Music FX (stock), Equalizer, Volume+ and DSPManager.
All act the same.
I come from a Nexus One where I used DSPManager through CM7 roms. The bass boost setting would actually BOOST the bass. Now, it just seems to lower the sound output level and doesn't really affect the bass in anyway at all.
I'm sure Im not the only one who sees this problem.
Is tehre a fix for this or is there something that I can do to help with this?
Please chime in with your comments.

from what i read, bass boost doesnt work on ICS (yet)
....of course i could be wrong
volume+ bass boost works wonders
Boosting the bass ruins the sound. And I gotta tip my hat to TI for how awesome their sound chip is.

ICS Music player has some problems, Bass Boost is one of them. It is working in reverse and the higher you put it up the more bass it cuts off. Don't use it if you need more bass.
Install another player with more control over EQ, bass, treble and cross bleed (poweramp, for example). I have been testing different players with some audiophiles and we are very impressed with the Galaxy Nexus! No noise or hiss.
Supercurio tested the Galaxy Nexus with analog headphone amp gain and it became totally black even with very sensitive in-ears!
i use volume+ with poweramp and it's awesome makes my $10 earphones sound like a $300 pair
supercurio's Voodoo sound not supported yet?

Not yet. The Galaxy Nexus uses a chip from Texas Instruments and Voodoo uses the Wolfson Audio.
The Supercurio dev got a Galaxy Nexus and he's working on it.
From Supercurio:
[email protected] Yes after study I can tell #GalaxyNexus will receive some #VoodooSound improvements. Screen: not studied enough yet.

I completely agree.
The Galaxy Nexus is a superb audiophile phone. When I plug my sennheisers and touch the play button (Poweramp, of course), the only thing I can say is WOW!
Not sure I agree with it being an audiophile phone, but it gets by. If you really want better bass, buy an external headphone amplifier (under $40) with a bass boost circuit. This may be more than some headphones can handles depending on the material. You can do lots with the built-in EQ on Winamp and Poweramp, though.
hi. I have a question about galaxy note's sound on a headset. I have right now an AKG noise cancelling headset which sounds very well on my cheap sony walkman. But when used on my galaxy note, i have used Equalizers, to DSP stuff, but i must say, bass don't sound good, it is never as good as my walkman. I tried those beats plug in via CWM but still the sound sucks. I currently use powerplayer app but sounds like ****.
any tips?
You can use power amp, which is a highly regarded music player due to dsp changers, equalizers etc. You have to pay for it though and it won't be as good as say a galaxy s(2) because note uses Yamaha instead of wolfson sound chips

I'm in the market for a new phone to replace my Vibrant and I narrowed it down between this phone and the SGS3. However the real factor is whether or not I can crank up the volume really loud as I frequent the gym and need the extra thump without distortion. (Volume+ isn't really an option as I feel it doesn't get the job done: high treble, but terrible bass)
I've read about Voodoo LOUDER coming to this phone and know about the sound control tweaks from currently existing Gnex Kernels: but I just can't find the answer about how loud it can get. Any first hand experience from fellow audiophiles would be appreciated. Does the sound control affect the volume or just the clarity?
*note- On the Vibrant, I crank up the headphone amp to the full 5dB and always hover around the +1 - +5dB range at all times. I'm also using Brainwavz M4 IEMs if that means anything.
I'm not really well versed in audio stuff, but as far as loudness goes, I plug my ****ty little ear buds in I can hear my music at 80 MPH+ over the sound of wind noise and a motorcycle engine.
Nit sure if that helps, good luck.

It helps a little, but more clarification would work. I really want to if the loudness can be compared to Voodoo sound evenly.
Coming from the Epic 4g which had voodoo sound it is very much louder. I use Equalizer from the market but the audio by itself is quite loud. I have to stop around 60%-70% otherwise it's just too loud.

Yes, the sound boost from kernels can get painfully loud
I had a vibrant with voodoo.....
I don't think the gnex is quite as good, but it's not bad at all.
I was finally able to get my hands on a Gnex and was able to do some real world testing using some cheap JVC marshmellows, Brainwavz M4 IEMs, Klipsch s4 IEM and my Sennheiser HD555s.
The loudness between a Voodoo'd Vibrant/Nexus S/Infuse is the same as the Gnex with HPS turned on. This is with the headphone amp for the Voodoo Control app turned to +5dB and the Headphone Volume Boost turned up to 3 using the Trickster MOD control app. I did a blind test between phones using the different IEMs and couldn't tell the difference. This is good.
Sound quality between the phones is 'comparable'. What I mean is that sometimes some music might sound better on the Wolfson equipped phones, some might sound better on the Gnex. I figured the reason for that was because the two DACs are simply different. On the Infuse for example with my s4s I found that there was too much bass in the lower levels. Playing it on the Gnex, the lower levels evened out nicely. On the other hand, the mids-highs using my M4s were much better on the Vibrant than the Gnex. In conclusion: using DSP manager or another equilizer should bridge whatever differences your ears may be hearing for the whole spectrum; confirmed that with the JVCs and the Sennheisers. Interesting enough using the HD555s on the Gnex with HPS +3 caused the music to cutout and stop playing. When I lower the volume the phone doesn't cut out the music anymore....I am using the Fancy kernel on SlimBean 4.2.1 with the xLOUD mods
TL;DR- Loudness/SQ for Gnex with HPS is just as good as Voodoo'd Galaxy S phones for us that workout at the gym and need the extra volume boost. There are small SQ differences but nothing an equilizer can't fix.
Hello,
i bought earphones : Westone 4R and i would like to know which application i can use to get the best sound quality on my samsung galaxy note 2.
because, it looks like if the quality of the sound is a bit strange.
also who has a westone 4R being used with samsung galaxy note 2 ?
thanks in advance for your advise
regads
sam
I was using Westone 4 with Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note and now Galaxy Note 2 LTE(N7105)
Definitely, N7105 provide the best audio quality out of the box in these three device.
Now my setup is
Perseus kernel
Audio tab
- disable EQ
- enable oversampling
- bypass analog mixer
Music player
Poweramp
- checked direct volume control.
The only audio tweak I use are these.
I don't like DSP at all, like those Beats, Ezio or AC!D.
They might sound good in movies or games but not music.
Often use phase flip or similar technology to make the sound stage wider but also loose the focus and strength.
Or induce some bizarre reverbs to simulate different room, also decrease the overall clarity quite a lot.
So far I like the quality, no WOW factor but doesn't suck.
I guess the bottleneck is the headphone amp.
Afterall it's a mobile phone, not a dedicated music player
I am looking to replace my noisy nexus 7 2013 in my car with a gt3 8.0. I read a spec sheet online that the sprint version has the Wolfson dac can anyone confirm. I see that it supports boffela sound. If I'm not mistaken it's built for the Wolfson dac like voodoo sound!? How is the sound from the headphone jack. Loud, clean, bright, ect...? Thank you
