I have been in many many roms with my galaxy, from Touchwiz to cyanogenmode and liquidsmooth and many others, but one day, I recognize that my signal was really poor. I broke my screen and i replacement by my self i was really careful about didnt touching any other thing that was not part of the screen, but maybe, just maybe i scratch my antenna? There is anyway to check if my signal it's not good as before because of that? Also there are places where i have signal like my house and the speed is really fast, but there are also places where i have full signal and my speed is crap, and there are places were i lose my signal too frequently. I feel like my signal have been deplore slowly. Or it's just.. that sprint LTE is really bad?
first try updating your prl
next if youre on a MD4 TW rom, flash the md4 modem
also try updating your profile
if nothing works try one of the signal refresh apps from the play store
also it may be the rom
if none of the above helps its probably hardware related or it could just be that sprint is upgrading their towers and the one nearest to you is offline for the upgrade...
All AOSP based roms show's your true signal in the noti bar ( Data Bars )
TW JB has an extra signal so it looks like you have good signal but you don't.
Checking signal strength is in
About Phone > Status > Signal Strength.
Usually -75 to -99 is good to really good signal.
But if you think your actual signal is a little far-fetched. Download SpeedTestNET from
Google Play and look at your ups and downs.
My signal is around -80 dbm and my ups are 1 mb and my downs are 3-5 mbs ( It shucks :3 )
There are 3g / Wifi Speed Tweaks you can find around xda or google.
And if it has to come to it, if your on TW JB Rom, Turn off or Freeze your Sprint Connections Optimizer.
That auto connects to frequent used Networks, Wifi Terminals and towers that had the best connections for you before
and sometimes it'll connect to a good tower that's located really far ( I don't know why but I've experienced it... )
Use apps that recalibrate your Radio as well if it helps, A lot of people say it's not worth it, and sometimes it IS just a placebo
and it tricks ya but if it works it works.
Verizon PRL but only for talk.
Hey guys, I was wondering is there a way I can switch to Verizon's towers when I make a call, but only use Sprint's towers for data? didn't want to make a new thread about this in the Q&A since I can't actually post where the Sprint PRLs are yet, but I have horrible reception in my house. I roamed to Verizon's towers constantly when I switched PRLs a couple months ago and I got in trouble because I went over 300MB of data. Thank you all.

it's there is anyway to do that on Cyanogenmode or an AOSP rom?
sadly no... but your signal might be because your on an aosp rom... they arent as stable as touchwiz roms...
There's a few unofficial ported AOSP roms that have the sprint update feature, I'm not to sure which ones but i've seen them.
They only updates profile, im not to sure about PRL. It's best to update on a TW based Rom because it's easier, it takes
awhile switching between the two just to update though.
On a stock TW JB Rom, on home screen press your menu button.
Select Settings or System Settings.
Scroll all the way down and select System Updates.
Select Update PRL.
Wait for it to be done.
Select Update Profile.
Wait for that to be done.
Reboot your phone.
Make sure your data is connected, if it's slow be patient let it take time to update Profile and PRL.
Noted that as long as your on the Rom based on what firmware it is. ICS or JB. It doesn't matter which
modem you choose, just as long as its based on one or the other.
For example. Being on an MD4 Rom you'll still be able to have 3g / 4GLTE Data with an LJ7 Modem, or
LI3 rom with an LF9 modem. Remember changing your modem YMMV, or Your Mileage May Vary, almost everyone
who switches modems that have the best stability for them they either have better data speeds. Or They're not
being dropped as often or not at all when near a tower.
For me, around my area, using an MD4 Rom, I'm using the LJ7 modem, because all the other modems I have tried either
dropped my data ( Not connected to towers even though there's one near me. ) Or I'd have to reboot my phone just to get it back.
and when im on an AOSP Rom, I'm usually using LF9, Because i've tested my data speeds on it and that's the highest out of all i've used
+ I don't get my data cut off or dropped.
@ eisawi99
Most AOSP Roms have 3G and WiFi tweaks to help with stability. But the downer part of using AOSP Roms is it doesn't get along with
trying to connect to 4G LTE, I have 4G LTE in my area, when using a TW rom it'll instantly connect when ever it's got a strong signal.
While on an AOSP Rom, It rarely ever does even if im almost sitting next to it.
Sometimes it's also the APN's that are being configured via script tweaks. I usually just remove all my old APN's and use all of sprint's
APNs when ever i can't send or recieve a text or mms, but it'll also help with data connection stability too.

I seem to have signal issues on both ROM's. I'll give you guys a little background information.
I've used Fresh and Myn ROM's and always get perfect 3G coverage in my house and around town. Everytime I flash an AOSP rom I can't seem to connect to anything but 1X (if I'm lucky). When I was using the 2 previously mentioned Sense ROM's I'd have no issues with data. For the record I don't do a restore of my system data or apps when I flash because I prefer to download everything again to prevent FC's and other issues.
I've done a nandroid restore and updated PRL and Profile in a Sense ROM (2X) and then restored my AOSP ROM (ultimate droid) and that doesn't fix signal issues. My girlfriend has an Evo and she gets perfect signal on 3G (4G as well but she has it off) so it's not network related.
I downloaded the latest radio and pri from the development thread and flashed them in recovery. That didn't do anything at all and may have been a waste of time.
I then did these steps:
Dialed *#*#463+#*#*
Clicked on Phone Info
Turned off Radio (waited 1 min)
Turned radio back on
Ran ping test (failed because of no data signal). I can make/receive calls but nothing data related.
Is anyone having this issue? This has prevented me from fully enjoying AOSP ROM's and I don't know what the issue is. I'm using the latest PRL but could it be that my radio is broken? I would ready appreciate any help.
*** Update ***
I'm typing this thread on my phone and it's displaying 3G in full bars and then jumps to 1X full bars. It's kind of random but never steady. If anyone can please help me with this I'd appreciate it.
By the way I have an Airrave. Could that be the cause of my problems?

Same. i have this issue. although i dont get 1X. but i do however get spiking signal.
from what ive learned, the bars arent ur reception but how good ur connection is to the....satelites? aslong as u have 3G showing ur phone/internet SHOULD be working. although i would rather like to see all full bars where i normally would
i'm in a pretty high 4g signal area, but i love ultimate droid. i too have loopy 3g using cm6 or ultimate droid, would gladly give up my 4g to use either of these roms, but the 3g performance is way slower than on a sense rom. it's not just the bars, 3g on aosp is almost unusable, on sense roms, it works nicely
I solved my issue. The root of the problem is the Airave and how it connects with AOSP ROM's.
When I flash a Sense based ROM I don't have an issue with 3G and signal. I'm in a perfect 3G area by the way.
As soon as I disconnected the Airave last night my 3G signal came back with a vengeance. It hasn't left and is steady. I plugged in the Airave again and I saw my signal disappear and never come back. I could make/receive calls but no data access. I have the latest version of the Airave. Could someone (DEV) of an AOSP ROM investigate this issue. I knew it wasn't my phone because it would only happen in AOSP ROM's.

Hello,
I have a EVO 4G fully flashed to MetroPCS (talk, txt, mms, web) etc all working properly. But I have one issue: I get barely any reception/bars in my house so the DATA is pretty useless. So I want to use Wifi but Im getting barely any signal from the wifi router that's placed 2 rooms down the hall. I get almost full bars and an excellent signal on my Laptop and my other EVO 4g that's on Sprint.
I looked searched online and found out I'll have to disable DATA so my wifi wont cap off at my data speed. After disabling DATA I still get very weak WiFi signal almost useless with frequent connection drops. I never had weak wifi signal prior to flash on the same phone when it wasnt activated with any service.
Phone is using MetroDroid v2.2 with android 2.2. I dont know why they didnt use metrodroid 3.0...
My question is what's causing weak wifi signal? Is there anything I can do to improve it? Also is there another rom besides the Metro droid that can be fully flashed to MetroPCS with improved wifi?
You can flash any rom you want with out losing metro settings the things the roms change don't affect the partition the settings are on just like radios don't change with a rom flash they are in a seperate partition from the actual files that create the UI and system partitions

The guy that flashed it at the metro place said the flash and all settings will be lost if I flash another ROM. I will have to pay again for the flash and the unlocking etc.
Dude lied to you, you know you coulda flashed it yourself for free right? Hey ill flash a recovery for you for $35 lol j/k the settings are set thru epst I believe in the nvram all that needs to be changed between roms sometimes is the apn settings for MMS and you can use GOSMS Pro and change those on aosp roms or a downgraded epst to change them on a sense rom, there are tons of tutorials on how to flash to metro boost and cricket all over the interwebz and you can find all the info to flash your phone in them

Well i tried to do it myself first following a tutorial on one of the threads here on XDA which also had metroDroid...but when in CDMA workshop my SPC code was showing up as all zeroes. Was also kind of busy so i decided to take it to metro.
Any thoughts on why the wifi signal is so low compared to before when it wasnt activated at all? And if its possible to flash any rom and not lose the flash and data stuff which Rom should i go for? and where exactly can i find instructions to re-do all the stuff?
I've never personally flashed a phone to another carrier but someone who has will stumble in here and help with settings for roms I'd go with the classic by tommytomatoe or mikg 3.0 if you want sense or decks gb rom if you want aosp wifi is probably low due to either a bad flash on your rom or a setting not configured right, before you had it flashed to metro it was probably on sense (I think metrodroid is aosp) and sense shows higher signal strength whereas aosp shows lower signal even tho it's identical the higher signal on sense can trick the connection to stay active even tho its really a weak signal but the speeds will be affected the only settings you will most likely ever screw up would be web and mms and those settings are easily found thru a quick Google search for "evo 4g metropcs web and mms settings"

Well well I flashed the classic ROM yesterday and the ROM itself works perfectly fine but i was still having the same issue...so i decided to take the phone apart to mess around with the antenna(s)? I bent them up a little bit and put it back together which result in much better Wifi signal and much better reception and so far i haven't seen signal drop anywhere.
But since I flashed the ROM I still have the web and 3g settings but I messed up the MMS settings. Is there a MMS script i can install/flash for the classic ROM that can get the MMS to work? Or any other method that's not too complicated (I'm a noob). I have tried SMS pro and had no luck.
Will appreciate any thoughts on this. thanks.
Can someone please help?

Can anyone help with an issue I get using AOSP/ICS roms. On a GB rom I normally get 1-4 bars of signal in my house, 3G speed is fairly rubbish but it does work. Whenever I flash any version of CM9 or AOKP I get 0-2 bars of signal, and mostly no mobile data.
The phone can be sitting on a table and show 2 blue bars, often if I pick it up it will change to none and give me network errors. I can normally still send texts and make calls when it is like this, just no data and things like Play Store fail to connect.
Calk's ICS rom may be a little better, but not much (the signal meter on Calk's bounces between 1x and 3G along with low bars).
Switching back to a GB rom I get all my signal back and the slow but actually working 3G. I have tried several modems on both GB and ICS and they show no difference in behaviour (I have tried EL29, FD10, FD16)
Since I have wifi at home it's not a real issue for data, however it seems to kill the battery searching for a signal. The "Time without a signal" shows 20-30% most of the time on ICS, vs 0% on GB.
Any ideas on why ICS roms are giving me no signal?
Cheers,
Richard
I've been getting the same thing but the connection seems to be the same as when I was getting more bars on GB. This is especially true when I'm using Wi-Fi. I'll get one bar of signal strength but it is still fast and I'm nor having connection problems.

i'm having a similar problem, only difference is that mine on ICS was working fine untill i softbricked and restoring back to ICS using CFRoot.. now i (just like you) have 0-2 bars, and have tried dozens of modems and kernels to fix the problem..
eh, maybe i should go back to GB too - see if that fixes my problem
If you search around these forums you'll find something bout getting rid of proxies that the sprint server uses... some people have reported great success and increased service while others have had no noticeable difference, I myself haven't gotten around to trying it, bit I still plan to, sorry I'm mobile right now and can't find the post, I'll see bout linking it when I get home

I've done this on a couple phones and I've gotten good improvements each time. It will only affect your 3g speeds and not 4g, and it's not a guaranteed improvement.. there are many factors that can affect. Check your speeds before and after to see if it helps you or not! =)

Hello xda. I need some help with my GS3 and LTE. I rooted my phone on day one and have moved from rom to rom. I live in the SF Ba. Area and they are turning LTE on. Using sensorly I found some LTE areas, but my phone won't connect. I have tried different roms: CM10, Paranoidandroid, Ktoonsez, and now Liquid. I started with radio LJ9 and am now on LJ7.
I hope someone can give me a few ideas on what to try next. I heard updating the PRL can help, but I don't know how to do that.
Sorry if I did a poor job of searching, I am on my tablet, on 3G, and I couldn't find much
To update your profile and prl (prl is for roaming and doesn't effect lte).
menu -> settings (scroll to the bottom) -> system updates -> update profile / update prl
I'd odin stock JB or ICS and test LTE that way.
Though all of the ROMs you listed should have perfectly working LTE.
good luck
I flashed back to a Odex stock, and updated my profile and prl (just incase). I still don't seem to get any LTE.

Well I'm not 100 % on what fixed it but it suddenly started working. Speed seems a little slow. 5mbps up and down. Don't people get in the range of 10 to 20

On CM10 (and all AOKP ROMs based on it) eHRPD authentication is not working right yet. I think they're close to a fix, but for right now, if you're in an area with a weak LTE signal; you're gonna have some problems
hey gang i'm running the latest aokp task650 build on my S3 I747m. Everything works awesome, except i occasionally lose my data connection. I'll notice my connection status bars are gray, and typically a reboot will fix it. I'm sure going into airplane mode and back out from that would re-establish the connection too.
my APN is set correctly, i compared it to a friends nexus which is not rooted.
Right now i'm set as pda.bell.ca
I've flashed the latest bell modem file (that i'm aware of).
Anyone have any suggestions? i'm pretty new to all of this.. not sure what to do to troubleshoot.

I've been having problems lately when I have poor 4G (LTE) signal. My phone would rather hang around on the LTE network with little to no signal before it switches over to 3G. It's been doing this for a while on the Rogers network for me. I can see when I check the battery stats just how much time is spent without signal which is a lot. At work I get full bars 3G when at my desk but very poor 4G. The only thing causing me to loose signal is the poor transition back and forth between the two networks. Changing modems has absolutely no affect on this matter and I've put the APN's and network modes through the ringer with no change either. I've tried it all and nothing improved it. When I walk outside I immediately hit full bars 4G. Just when I'm inside my work and at home, I get poor lingering 4G. I wish the thresholds for when it switches over were better. I usually just turn off LTE all together which sucks but oh well.
I don't think we are the only people with this either. I've read grumblings about others noticing the same thing.
If curious, I'm running the latest CM10.1 nightly with Ktoonsez kernel on the Rogers network in Ottawa.
Interesting, that could very well cooincide with what i'm seeing. I tend to bounce from 4G to H+ or 3G, i wonder if it's trying to hang onto 4G.
Is there a way to force it to stay on 3G? that might be a good test
I was getting the same issue.
I did a factory reset and reinstalled my ROM plus GAPPs and the issue resolved itself.
I am using the latest modern right now and not my bell one. I think it's from a south American carrier, but bit 100% sure of the top of my head. But it is in the current modern thread
