Hi,
I`m running the Spazedog ICS on my desire and it is really fast (appr. 2100 pts at Quadrant)
If tried JB several times and it`s always slower and laggier.
Is there a real benefit of JB?
Right now I`m using a razr i with 4.1.2.
Great phone, fast, small, well build, but without all the goodies of CM not suitable for me.
The good old desire with the big community is still hard to beat.
I used to use spazedog ICS and I now use PA 4.2.2, and its definitely faster.
Especially now that nikez has ported ion to the kernel we use, and that most active rom devs have implemented it.

Paranoid Android. There's a link in my signature.
Vijendrahs CM10.1 ROM, and nikez 4.2.2 evervolv are also quite popular. You can find them in the development section, usually on the first page. Both of these ROMs have implemented ion.

JB has improved the graphical performance and subsequently pride of HTC Desire. The 3d rendering is a lot better than the previous CM7 ROMs. I used to play several heavy games on CM7 but I was disappointed at the stuttering 3D performance. Then I gave a try to JB ROMs and viola! There was a huge difference in the quality.
Plus, I'm a huge fan of sound, and I've got very sensitive taste for audio quality. CM7 ROMs, even with the DSP equaliser weren't good enough, until I applied the BeatsAudio mod to JB ROMs. There was this huge difference in sound quality too.

Cool but ...
I was using VJ's CM 10.1 ROM for the past few months. It's really fast and improvements all around the OS, the multitude of customisations!
One major turn off was the random reboots. Can't have that while working, so went back to GB.
I :good: the rock solid reliability of GB.
Games are definitely slower though. Not much of a problem, since I rarely play games on my trusty 3 yr old HTC Desire.
:victory:
my desire on all JB's 4.2.2 roms is a a lot slower in user interface(also in quadrant score) than GB/ICS

That shows your blatant insensivity to sound.
Beats audio is nothing but money making marketing thing, in order to get the full affect of beats audio headphones, u have to use them on something that has the software installed, which is bs if u ask me and they just another set of over priced headphones. I used to have a pair of technics headphones, they were half the price and much better sound quality. Ur paying for the name imo

Probably because like JB has smooth transitions do the games work slower. On ICS transitions are laggy so the games work smoother? I dont know really, just my opinion.

Beats headphones are widely known for their bad sound quality. Even they admitted that. As for beats audio app, it is just an adjusted equalizer, so if you have one you can control, it is even better then.
For JB roms the smoothest I've found were Nikez and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368911 it's true that gingerbread has the best speed then ICS but I get the impression that the great Devs are getting close on some new roms!
Because android 2.3.3 is very old..Use The rom of VJ 4.2.2..It is a very stable rom..
I wonder if kitkat would run well on the Desire, its got the min required ram so we'll see i guess, if Nikez works his magic

Well it affected many functions of the phone I doubt it
Using this on my Desire S. Much much much faster than 3.5.
This ROM is perfect because it has the same specs as our phone.
Why do you want a One X port? We will need to resize images etc, and will be slower as its designed for a quad-core phone, we are only on a single core, with less RAM.

you are right. Its damn fast. But however, the ROM is just as fast, because a lot is missing (Widgets, Lockscreen etc.). It is not so comfortable as the real Sense 3.5 or 4.0. The sense here is 4.0 light, which is similar to Sense 2.1
The One X, based on real Sense 4.0 Engine

Not sire what you guys mean with laggy... Im come from desire.. and for sure...i know what lags are.. on desire also aosp roms have lags.. and now i have a phone with soo much speed.. no lockscreen lags.. even if a call comes.. i can push the symbol really smooth into the ring.. no slide lags during slide between homescreens.. i always use much htc widgets... After i play some 3d gameloft game.. no lag... I dont need data2ext scripts.. as there is engouh internal mem.. even in gameing no lag.. eg : asphalt, nfs, and other...mmmhh.. but im on stock rom @the moment 1. 05
Anyway.. also would like to see a sense 4 rom... Will look if i get some time free.. hope some other want work on that too.. maybe we can use the xe version.. and combine with kernel and hw drivers from sense 3. 6 (which allready work on our phones)...was a idea...
Also we can do some kernel optimations.. @the moment only for gb... So it would be nice again if we get official ics and also get the kernel as source...
Sent from my HTC Sensation XL with Beats Audio X315e using XDA
Well ics kernel source for xl should be out soon as official ics dropping soon. These so called lags for me are non existent and maybe some are expecting too much. Rosie was and will always be a memory hog and any widget can cause maybe a slight delay in transition. No roise is ever smooth no matter what is done to it.

well, for the source yes...but for the lags...mmhh..i also have some lags...not big lags...but in compare to gb...ics is slower at the moment...but i think the official rom..as custom dont have it.. but yes true for rosie...but anyway...best launcher and best widgets...(we know how many third party software copy the style)
with kind regards
just downloaded...hope we get the official update soon...if so...one of all devs here should make a development thread...so we can speak together instead of each individually...so we can make ics sense 4 to work...there are also roms for desire hd out...but with things not working...we are in a better situation...we get a ics update...so we have original drivers...etc...so we should have a better start....
good to have custom recoverys...so we can do a nand backup...go back every time back to daily driver in testing
with kind regards

HI Guyz,
I am not a dev. So please pardon me if i am wrong. When i visited a mobile shop to get a new mobile for my cousin,
1. I saw HTC Explorer , which in configuration is wayyyyyyy below desire. But i was awestruck with the smoothness of it. The appdrawer, swiping between homescreens, widgets etc. but i cannot have the same smoothness even with the official sense 1.9 ? Why is that ?
2. I saw HTC Desire C which is based on 600 MHz Cortex-A5. WTF. ? It has ICS. I can sense that ICS will be very laggy in the handset but my question is how this weak chipset has fully functional ICS and Sense 4.0 ? I still feel HTC Desire is very powerful and capable enough to run ICS. !!

You could try to download desire c rom, change all "desire c" string to "desire" and see if it works...
lol, it's not so simple to port a rom, it's a different architecture of chip, different screen resolution, different drivers... etc etc...
Like if you run a game on a quadcore with full resolution and the same on a pentium4 with 640x480.. do you understand a little?
I think that the progress in ICS and JB is fantastitc, so appreciate the dev's work and don't pretend too much.

Thanks for your reply and please dont be obnoxious when you reply to someone. Its not that I doubt the devs. What i am trying to say is when a 600 mhz powered device can run ICS, why not ours (out of the box. just with minor tweaks) like transition from Froyo to GB. ?? I was totally upset to see ICS in Desire C rather than mine. I hope we will have fully functional ics/jb not without our excellent devs. !!

Ok, the fact is also that desire c has htc's drivers, our desire hwa was written from scratch by evervolv team, so it isn't an official released properly functioning.
It's correlated with the problem that cyanogenmod don't support it for cm9.
There are a few different ICS roms that work really well and smoothly for the Desire. BCM is based on CM9 but nikez rom and sandvolds rom are not. The only problem I have encountered is video playback issues which can be solved my using mx or rockplayer. Otherwise imo the desire ICS roms are quicker than GB. The devs have done a great job porting these to desire.

Wait... I believe that who tried mildwild 4.3 can say that is quicker, faster (maybe not smoother) rom for desire. With the option of choosing where to put apk and data of each app (if in internal or ext) I can open frequently used app in a second, camera Miui app is perfect and it has no bugs. The only benefits that I saw in ICS was running heavy games with good frame rate (the same game is laggy in GB) and using 4.0+ apps. But so far I found ics and jb rom slower (repeat I mean opening apps and overall quickness). Btw the job by evervolv team and nikez is fantastic and I guess that JB development will go furrher and better than ics

Since Shaky stop developing his Sense 4.0 ROM, this side of the HTC desire development has stopped. The ROM, though in alpha, was working brilliantly well. Everything was smooth, and there were many thing working. Why did shaky stop? That build has so much potential. I really hope that he is still developing his rom in secret, so that he makes a "surprise stable full version" release.

I didn't even notice that Shaky deleted his XDA account. I'm a bit worried about him. What happened?
So, if shaky stopped developing, does that mean that the Desire will never get a full version of the 4.0 Sense, even if it can run it very smoothly?
Begging the devs won't help...
I want this port so much that I'm willing to take Linux classes and to port it myself.
Sooo, is any developer kind and willing enough to continue shaky's work? I know this sounds like begging, but many Desire users really want the 4.0 Sense.
To prevent noobish spamming, like shaky had, devs could just release a full version when it's done.

I can't figure it out so maybe someone will help me (using MIUI as example).
What exactly is the benefit of using JB-based MIUI over GB-based MIUI apart from the fact of having the newest thing on the block? I found only TWO minor things:
- good voice recognition of Android 4+ (I don't even know if MIUI has it built in)
- in MIUI JB you can have pattern screenlock as a single lock. There is no way of avoiding double screenlock on GB MIUI.
So is it really worth loosing HALF of the Quadrant score - I get ~950 points in JB MIUI and 1900 in GB MIUI (which I suppose means JB roms are two times slower than GB roms) and some extra space on data partition?
Did you seriously just write that.

Everyone knows benchmarks are worthless in the grand scheme of things. Except for testing new high end phones (even then there not accurate enough.)
GB MIUI is probably a little faster but no were near 2 TIMES faster than JB MIUI.
Though MIUI in general was never that fast anyway

In the grand scheme of things we could just use Nokias 3100 and our lives would not be much different.
There is a big difference in benchmark result between different roms on the same phone, so obviously it IS measuring something.
GB MIUI is also twice as fast as GB CM7 on my phone.

I can give you more than that on a froyo rom. It still is a fake score.
- Swyped from my Galaxy Note 2
Aside form arguing whether benchmarks work:
A- Aesthetics, ICS is unbelievably beautiful
B- All the launcher features, Keyboard mouse (if you do some scripting)
C- As mentioned voice recognition is great
D- Upgraded GApps
E- List goes on...its the little things that count
And yes, Spacedog rom for the bravo kicks a**

Well I know which one I'm going to try first, but an 'Is is worth it' I think is easy to answer. Everyone can tell that there is too much lag or lack of response to be useable. That is what I was asking. See, I was told by my manufacturer that my Rezound was not capable of running Jelly Bean (Which is a lie, because I am running it), and the Incredible has much lower specs.
Anyways, I'm sure I'm going to try it. I was just seeing if anyone else had, had they experienced a miserable time at it. Not looking for suggestions.
There is a bit of lag since the inc is not meant to run JB. It can obviously, but it's not meant to. Not a lot of lag, but it is there, and the features of JB outweigh the lag for most. Most inc power users, I'd wager, are running some version of JB as a daily driver, including me. The main ones who don't use JB are the ones that need the video camera to work.
In summary: if you don't need the video camera to work perfectly, yes it's worth it.
I am running Tiny's cm10.1 and it is running very good just WiFi and camera and some crazy things lol

Thanks guys. I finally found my old dinc and eris (missing in boxes after a move) and want to mess around with different ROMs. I run Infected on my Rezound and see its now available for incredible. It is a sickly modified CM based ROM.
Part of me wants to mess around even with some older flavors, like Gingerbread, Honey Comb, or even Eclair. Just for nostalgia.

So you praise one ROM that is built off another ROM but don't think about the people that worked to make jelly bean and CM10/CM10.1 possible on the dinc in the first place?

I wasn't aware that saying what ROM worked for me, was in any way dising the people whose hard work made previous and other ROMs possible.

You're right. Infection is good. A lot of it is the slimmer ROM and tweaks that helps it. Probably the tweaks especially the animations. I might have been a little off color with that comment.

Well from what I read, you're like a god here, Tiny from all the amazing work you have done, and are doing, especially with the dinc. Please forgive my very amaturish remarks!
tiny ,pons,zach
Thank you all first, is there going to be an update for PAC I have ran all of your ROMs and are great just wondering because I read a few post back that it was going to be updated anyway thank you all :good:
Hey guys ! I belong to HTC explorer , Samsung galaxy s and desire hd forums and I'm planing to get this phone , so I want to know a few things bout it :
How's the stock rom ? I mean on my explorer its laggy and almost unbearable
How's the battery life with continues use of WiFi and a lot of texting and music , that's the only reson I buy a phone though
I didn't had much Time to check that dose HTC one v have sense 4.1 or sense 4 FULL ?
Dose it have 8-10 different types of lockscreens ? (Weather , friend stream , stock etc )
How's the over all smoothness ? Is it worth the money ?
Thanks ,

Is it with the money? That depends. My carrier has dropped the price continually down to $100CDN and then stopped carrying it.
It's a much better phone if you install a custom rom on it. There are other phones that are newer and will likely have a front camera for similar price.
But, saying that, I like mine (custom ROM) just fine
I just got htc one v and it's fine for me. But battery last just for one day in my case - wifi on and a lot of texting. But I like it - it's fine for me and I thkink worth it's money.

The Lockscreen is not customizable. It's not full sense. To get what you want, you would have to root it and install ckpv5's mysense 3.5 rom., which is good.
I mentioned the price because you didn't. If it's more than $100, I would say get another phone. HTC will never upgrade it. They have already said so.

Stock rom is really bad. Most people here are running sphongle aosp based here. Sense is just too heavy for this phone.

Well, it would be wise (normal, according to rules...) to first read all threads about hov.
Then, if you're stuck, ask... Sorry, we all know how to read, do you? :fingers-crossed:

I was expecting the ui to be smooth and fast but Nevermind I really like it's camera and metallic body and I hope stock Rom wouldn't be that bad cause on my explorer with 600 MHz CPU it runs sense 4 pretty good (lags for a while, but a reboot fixes that) and on my desire hd it have 1 GHz CPU and it runs sense for just like stock , full sense 4 . So if DHD can run full sense sooth as hell with 1 GHz CPU , I see no reson for HOV to lag on lite version of sense with the same CPU

Well I guess it depends on your standards, but my old LG GT540 with a 806mhz cpu that ran ICS way better than the HTC one V does ICS sense.

You can get different lock screens. All kinds of them for this phone. There are also Full Sense 4/4.1 Roms. Not JB Sense yet though if thats what you meant. Its actually an ok phone. I mainly use mine for gps, music, camera and social. On a good sense ROM battery will be great. On AOSP it will vary and usually not be so good. Good AOSP Roms are best for gaming. The metal case really helps, and its buttoned up pretty good. Put mine through some abuse. Its holding up nice. The stock ROM on mine actually wasn't too bad. Just with stock ROM and a good kernel its usable. But the best results are from a custom rom. Lots of good ones. Still development going on.
All that being said I would actually recommend a One S for what your looking for.
The camera one the One V isn't great. Night shots suck, and at 5mp its pretty low. One S has a great camera and 1080p video.
Battery is pretty small (One S isn't much bigger though)
And the One S is more powerful and smoother.
I've had my One V for about 4 months. Always wished I got a better One S.
One V is a good beginner phone.

Yeah 1+
Shent with shexy kitteh ushin Sensation XE and One V
Yeah so if you want it, it's a nice small, solid feeling phone, one v is good for that. But, if I were you, I'd root it and put either bandit's beaver ROM on it off one of ckpv5's
Hey thanks to all , I guess I'll be in this forum soon enough about in a 2-3 week's , one s is generally out of my budget :/
