[Q] Downgrade from ICS to Gingerbread HTC Desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys,
I am new to this stuff, so can you please help me out. I got a second hand HTC desire with ICS installed on it. The problem is that the ICS version is very unstable on this phone and keeps on crashing which results in me loosing all my data and applications. Can I some how downgrade my HTC to it origional operating system - Gingerbread(2.3)? I tried factory reset but that just deletes all my applications and data. If there is any other way, can you please point me in the right direction? I would really appreciate. Thanks in advance.

turn off the phone and press and hold volume down + power and post what it says in bootloader.
u have ics so that means u should have recovery installed. maybe u can just flash another rom, something that is stable or even a pre rooted 2.3 gb rom. have a look in the development section, plenty of good stable roms there.

try to flash CM 7 GB
most likely the phone has been rooted since it has ICS as rom

Regular simpleroot
I almost feel bad...all I saw was ".6" (Thinking it was referencing 2.2) and I was about to facepalm.
Some have had problems with the original simpleroot (I was one of them)...go here:

and do Toasts Part 1 and Part 2 step for step. If you run into any roadblocks, just post back to this thread and we will be happy to help you out.
I was a total Android/Linux noob when I got the Evo. I came from WinMo and as far as modding goes, it felt like I went from Champ to Chump. Read, make mistakes, read some more, fix your mistakes, and learn. It doesn't get any better than that. Just remember, we are a community that is here to help, not do it for you.
Finally ROOTED!!
OK guys i have rooted my EVO thanks to u guys. I have installed Froyo DeOdexed RevE.1, I have downloaded rom manager from the market. Now do i always have to wipe every time i load a new rooted rom? Also do i have to go into the shell with evo connected to PC to get to the menu for wiping and loading roms? Do i also have to load the updated radios and wimax or do the rooted roms come with them already? Many thanks.

Wiping is advised when flashing a new ROM, unless you are upgrading to a newer version of the same ROM (or if the author says no-wipe is required). Wiping is almost always required if you are changing between different ROM.
You can enter recovery by turning phone off, pressing power + volume down, or booting into recovery from apps such as Rom Manager, Spare Parts, Quickboot.

[Q] Which ROM that used Original Gingerbread like Nexus S?

Newbie just get the Desire Z here
okay, the last time I flash my own phone is Dopod D900, which very simple to flash.. but that not the question I would like to ask right now.
I need u guys help me, as title above, which one a custom rom that working well and used original Gingerbread like Nexus S, original UI (not mod), stable, fast, and the function running perfect on Desire Z?
and one more newbie question, how to backup original rom (in case i need to go back to original rom), data like contact and message before flash it to custom rom?
thanks and really appreciate your responses
Um.. not exactly sure what you are asking for but here is a link to a stock Gingerbread ROM by xboarder56: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054574
It's apparently taken straight from the official OTA and is very stock. I've been using it for about 5 days now and really like it. The only thing I see missing is the cool little on/off screen animation but otherwise completely functional with no frills. Very easy to flash as well. I use ROM Manager (Clockworkmod) for backing up ROMS and phone numbers and all contact info is synched with my Gmail account, or otherwise is stored on the SIM. Not sure how Desire Z works or where you are located so I might not be much help on that.....

but except that guide, the phone must be root and S-OFF first right before flashing to ROM?
and do you know what is the app that can backup current SMS on original rom, but can restore it again to custom ROM that we flash?
Yes, you must be rooted with S-OFF to flash the ROM. As for SMS backup, I'm not too sure. I use Titanium to back up my apps, but not sure if it will back up actual SMS content as well.
okay bro, thanks very much
really appreciate your response

[Q] Flashing issue and Camera problem

I'm updating a HTC Desire for a family member, the last rom installed was a villain 2.4 rom (it's been a while). I've updated the radio to the latest version ending in .23 and tried to flash the latest RunnymedeMod007, this is where I've encountered the problem. Im stuck on the opening HTC boot screen. And don't understand why, there's no reason for the freeze as far as i know. Should also note I've cleared every cache and wiped.
The second issue is that when there is a rom installed, the camera doesn't load and force closes.
Does anyone out there have any ideas why I've got these problems and could you help me out?
Cheers

1. You should have the appropriate hboot, also you should partition your sd card to run Runnymede. Check the OP in the thread, it is explained very well.
Basically I have no clue with flashing roms on desire as I'm a SGS user normally, so when it comes to updating the radio and hboot, I simply don't understand..
Since I posted this I've managed to get a AceMod007-3D rom to flash but every app seems to force close such as internet, gmail and the lockscreen force closes I'm assuming that's what rosie utility is. Any chance you could explain what i need to know or link me to a thread that puts in in basic noon language?

Check the Newcomers' Guide in my signature for flashing different ROMs, it explains everything with videos. For changing hboot, check Fastboot Commander. If you still have questions/problems, then head to the Troubleshooting Guide. Everything is in my sig.
You star. Cheers pal

[Q] Major problems with CM-7 after rooting

Since rooting my Wildfire and installing CM-7 I have had major problems. Among these are:
Phone note detected by HTC Sync
Screen lock not working
Home button (Up Arrow) not working
Advice on getting these problems sorted would be very much appreciated. If it can't be fixed where can I find a Froyo rom image to downgrade again?
Shipped roms are here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275680
I've never user HTC sync so can't comment on that but try this for the other problems. Reboot phone into recovery, make a nandroid backup, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (in advanced menu I think), flash stable version of cm7 again. If you want to backup your apps first use titanium.
1.HTC does not work on cm7
2.more info !!
3.Home button issue is found under home button binding settings ( I think its in launcher settings etc) I'm on sense Rom so can't check at moment.
Jokerdroid
Yeah actually why do you want to downgrade? Just try another Rom. Jokerdroid as mentioned by slymobi is a great rom

There are loads of roms to try (including jokerdroid). My personal advice if you want to minimise problems is always backup then wipe data, cache and dalvik cache before flashing any new rom.
Have fun

Just for clarification: If you root your phone and gain s-off you make your phone your own. This is the opposite concept to the one you follow when you have a phone with everything stock
The advantages are that you can decide what you want to install on your phone and how it will behave/act. Due to these facts you probably will have to do a few things/settings/configs manually because they're not done automagically with some bloating wizards (or even in the background).
Without any further information it pretty much looks to me that there are no problems at all. Just a question of configuration.
If you're new to custom ROMs I (personally) would suggest to stick with CM7 until you got an idea of the concept (because it's a very stable and highly/easily configurable ROM).
For the home button (BTW it's a house - not an arrow...) slymobi's suggestion should help. You could define the button's behaviour in settings / ADW settings. Lockscreen also could be set up in settings. Although LeWa, my current ROM, is based on CM7 it's not the same in menus - perhaps someone on CM7 could jump in and help
BTW: which version of CM7 are you using? I recommend 7.2 stable - all versions could be found here: CyanogenMod Downloads
If you don't want to play with CM7 because of the HTC sense missing: there are also some sense ROMs (if I'm correct Rempuzzle is the most stable? No sense fan here, sorry) and you could even flash the stock ROM if I'm correct - no need to downgrade...

I am using CM7 currently. First of all, HTC Sync WILL NOT work with CM7 as it is not an HTC ROM. 2nd, what is the problem with the screen lock? And which version of CM have you flashed? I am currently on CM7.2 Stable which is the most stable and most customizable ROM for our willy. For home button customization go to Settings>Input.(also try launcher settings from menu>home as suggested by slymobi.
Hope this'll help you.

[Q] Desperately Need Help Please

So my first time unlocking/rooting my Dinc2. Sorry for the noob questions but hey I am a noob. Is unlocking the same as rooting?
Quick synopsis.
1. The other night I get is unlocked and flash CM10.1 4.1.2 with correct Gapps, but it has too many bugs ie, weak signal, no 3G, wifi flakey.
I am not blaming the YT uploader but it would have been good to mention to noobs like me, to back up your stock ROM in the beginning of the video, before trying this, yes I am screwed no back up
2. So after a lot of searching XDA and other boards CM 7.2.0 was last supported so I did that and just get boot loops.
3. So I find one on XDA by condemed? and I follow directions and just get constant boot loops like CM7
What am I doing wrong? I need my phone back it's my only one.
1. Am I getting boot loops because this is a downgrade? I was so desperate I even formatted the SD card to remove any "conflicts" with previous ROM installs.
Here is a link to the stock ROM minus bloatware I am trying to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737494
Please any help or suggestions. TIA
Update-So I am trying to get the stock rom w/o bloatware to boot. Before it would go from HTC screen to VZ red eye back and forth, and now it is just stuck on red eye for about 10 minutes.
