looking awesome. thanks for sharing.

It looks nice, but they took away the delete button, so now it is 2 clicks to delete anything

I'm not seeing, or understanding the update to GMail. Granted, I haven't used the Gmail app in about two or so years. I've been using K9. I'm really not seeing what the tab feature from the few screenshots I've seen.

The tab feature separates your email into different sections. Like primary, social, etc. To configure it go to the desktop version and once logged in to Gmail click on tje little gear at tje top right and click on configure inbox. This is where u can select what tabs are used or you can deselect them all and just keep it like it used to be. It is basically a way to organize your email by categories. Hope that helps.

I briefly searched but didn't find anything......will 4.5 offer a black version? I thought Gmail was going to start offering a blacked out option soon.

Gmail Settings - General Settings - Archive & delete actions - Show archive only, Show delete only, or Show archive & delete.

No they didn't. Go to Settings, General Settings, Archive & delete actions, and choose delete or archive and delete. I assume this is what you are referring to. By default it only shows archive only.

I don't know how you guys never poke around an apps settings (first thing i always do). They didn't take away any feature. If you look in settings you'd see it and turn it on. Don't know why it's off by default, but it's there.

Are there any themers here that can possibly invert this?

Anyway to erase frequently called/contacted from phone/people apps

Haven't found a way to remove frequently called or contacted from the phone or people app. Kinda sux seeing my ex's info right there every single time. Temps me to text or call. And yes drunk texts apply here so it'd b nice to be able to remove these on demand lol
Anyone know how?

Press the menu button and then clear call log.
Not the call log. The frequently contacted. Its the last column in each app, phone app and people app. designated with a star icon at the top of the people app

Oh sorry. I misunderstood you. You could try clearing data in the contacts app. Not contact storage.
I haven't tried it so I can't confirm. That's my only educated guess.

Hold down on contacted and then hit the 3 dot thing and tap remove from log. To remove favorites you gotta log in and click on contact and then find the find the setting to remove starred contacts but it didnt update on phone. I dont know how to proceed with that part.

Clearing data in contacts storage works on mine, and it must on yours as well.
Only thing I can think of if that doesn't work, is if you store your contacts on phone or sim. But can't understand why you would do that.

How can this data be cleared? I have been trying to find a way to clear the frequently called list for weeks since ICS came out!!
Anyone thought about checking in their Gmail account online to see if Google has said contact(s) flagged as frequently contacted?

Sadly that clears even the call log. I want to clear the frequently called list or some specific numbers from that list but maintain my history.
I don't mind the frequently called list to be hidden since I can manually clear the history. Frequently called list however does not allow deleting some numbers.

This really is annoying.
you could just install exdialer from the market. you can delete individually calls from call history (incoming/outgoing/missed). and you get T9 dialing with it as well as a bunch of other useful stuff missing from the stock dialer.
doesn't consume much resources, very fast, and you can have it look almost exactly like stock dialer with its ICS theme.
If you want to have the same stock dialer icon you can use desktop visualizer (free) and link it to the stock dialer icon.

You have to uninstall the previous version first. Worked perfectly for me then. Thanks for actually posting the apk.
Installed this but have had some problems. One is you can't delete mail in your trash folder. Also i know it was a problem for the old one but you can't select all in trash folder. And i accidentally archived a email and don't know how to get you the archived section. Any pointers?
yeah, and how many more years before the gmail icon shows how many new emails you have?
i prefer the stock samsung email client which has more features, indicates how many emails you have waiting, and doesn't require "sync" to be enabled for push mail.. apparently for google this is rocket science.

Nova prime has an "unread" count for e-mail, phone calls and mms.
For those who may be having trouble installing use TB to unistall current gmail apk, reboot. install new apk on root of sd card and use a root explorer to install the new one.
Im not sure why people are having issues with this. I love this update. I made it so I can swype to delete messages plus when you go into Gmail you can see how many unread messages you have.

I never tried it but I did once I read your post and I was unable to delete anything in the trash folder which gets clean every 30 days anyway. But I selected all and did not see a setting to delete even tried to swipe but nothing happened. Very strange they did not add that feature.
Worked for me after uninstall with TiBu, reboot, install.
Thanks. Glad Google finally added these features.

[Q] Anyway to have Gmail 4.2

I know we are in an early stage of development but just curious if there is a way to get a Gmail 4.2.
The whole zoomed out email view is awesome and it's probably only thing I'm missing. I will appreciate if you have any guidance.

For some reason on stock AT&T when going into Settings > Application Manager (Select ALL) I see two Gmail apps. One is Gmail 1.0 and the other is Gmail 4.1.2.
Anyone else notice this? Any idea why there are two of them and if both need to be deleted in order to install Gmail 4.2?

sent using gNote II.
If you are rooted then use a File Manager like "Root Explorer" & go into /system/app & rename gmail.apk to gmail.apk.bak. Then copy the 4.2 gmail apk to /system/app and lastly change the permission (4.2 gmail.apk) to RW-R--R--.
Does tjos require root?

Don't remove Gmail 1.0. It's useful label, which is responsible for the opening Gmail mails with Gmail by default.
Without Gmail 1.0 my phone is restarting by itself each time when I try to set the default access to the mails.

Not sure if this is a new feature but

In the default browser in jelly bean you can zoom in my sliding your figure up and down the side of the screen.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
Thanks. I think this is a new feature to achieve single hand operation.
do you see the same behavior with email as well?
That's not new you can do the same in ICS
Edit:
Sorry nvm you can't do it on ICS my fault.
This is the most annoying feature I have ever encountered. I wish there was a way to turn it off. Whenever I'm reading a article on the browser I constantly keep zooming in while trying to scroll
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
Agree man, absolutely hate it. Main reason I don't use the stock browser. Always keep on zooming or panning out when reading an article.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda premium
Now that I know it's there I love it.
From what I can see, some love it while others hate it. I personally use Chrome for web browsing on my GS3 but at least now we know that feature is there in the stock browser.
I stumbled across this when I almost dropped my phone in the toilet XD. Off topic but when you guys plug in your usb to your computer to add music and such things do you still get that syncing app that pops up on your screen? Mine seems to be gone now ever since the update.

The new Gmail (updated today) does do it. You'll need to go into settings and enable 'Auto fit Messages'. VoilĂ , zooming in with the slide of a finger and pinch to zoom of course.

That's what it is, thank you for clearing that up! I thought my phone was freaking out and randomly zooming in & out when I would scroll around. I noticed it first in Reddit Is Fun, it must use the default browser when you browse external links from inside the app. I wish the phone would've had one of those "did you know" tips pop up the first time you do it, as an FYI.

New gmail layout..any way to multi select/delete inbox

I know this is a general question but it applies to any Android device but since im on a s4 ill ask here.
Since the new Gmail update with the new Colorful interface look, which I find useless.... is there a way to multi select all emails in the in box ,to delete instead of long pressing one by one?

Clicking on the colored letter / picture will select the email (as if it were a checkbox).
You can also disable the new look by unchecking 'Sender image' in settings.

:thumbup:Nice, that partly resolves the lengthy one by one delete process, but I sorta meant like a multi select/select all at once, then after just uncheck each one you want to keep.
But I guess only way is to check each email one by one .
Thanks though

Ah, yeah the app doesn't have a 'select all' feature. I suppose the app is designed to cater to users who keep more e-mail than delete.
You can long press on one email then select many.... It will highlight all and you can then delete several at a time.
