I know we are in an early stage of development but just curious if there is a way to get a Gmail 4.2.
The whole zoomed out email view is awesome and it's probably only thing I'm missing. I will appreciate if you have any guidance.

For some reason on stock AT&T when going into Settings > Application Manager (Select ALL) I see two Gmail apps. One is Gmail 1.0 and the other is Gmail 4.1.2.
Anyone else notice this? Any idea why there are two of them and if both need to be deleted in order to install Gmail 4.2?

Installed and working great!
sent using gNote II.
If you are rooted then use a File Manager like "Root Explorer" & go into /system/app & rename gmail.apk to gmail.apk.bak. Then copy the 4.2 gmail apk to /system/app and lastly change the permission (4.2 gmail.apk) to RW-R--R--.
Does tjos require root?

The app itself looks pretty much like the old version, you can just zoom all the way out so you can see the entire email. I'll post a picture in a little bit

Don't remove Gmail 1.0. It's useful label, which is responsible for the opening Gmail mails with Gmail by default.
Without Gmail 1.0 my phone is restarting by itself each time when I try to set the default access to the mails.

I know I saw a topic about this awhile back, but I can't seem to find it. I used to be able to delete mail on my epic and it would also delete if I went to a desktop computer. Now, after I restored a backup it won't delete from my actual Gmail account if that makes sense.
It now seems to follow the protocols of IMAP, vs the POP meathod if that makes sense? Did we ever find a solution to this?

That was only in the native android email app. In the Gmail app do you have it set for autosync?

Has anyone hacked the email apk to bypass exchange security?
+1 for this...
The stock email app will not let me connect to my exchange server. It says that the device does not support the security policy required by my exchange server. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Dumb question...you tried Enhanced Email?
Someone post it up please. The email.apk

Any help would be fantastic. Thanks.
+1 for this.
I could connect to my works exchange with cm7 but not on stock.
Enhanced email works but it has major issues with ics. It FC when auto-sync is turned on. So I either get work emails or Gmail.

+1 could really need this!
Did you try to select "SSL/TLS Accept all certificates" in Security type ?
Alright guys I have unpacked those files and they are slightly different compared to the gingerbread email application which is based of the Seven application.
Will see what I can do.

Would it be possible if we use CM9 Email source?
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_Email/tree/ics
Based from it, we just need to modify the isActive function to return true under SecurityPolicy.java? Am I right?

It didn't work for me on the Galaxy S3. The next download worked. But any changes I make on the phone won't get synced back up. See http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=42641 If enough people star it, Google will look into it.
This is the 4.4 Email app posted on AndroidPolice.
Test it out and see how it works. Hopefully it does what is says and works for the Note 3.
Happy Flashing.
NOTE: ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING ANY TEST APPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Installed just like a normal apk and working. Using it for exchange. I disabled samsung email so dont get 2x notify. I am rooted knox 0x0
Thanks.
Looks like Gmail now, but that's about it.
Never mind. installed Exchange2google. now i can access my mail. sorry
Is the push mail working for you? I installed it on my Moto X and it sets up and downloads my exchange inbox, then stops syncing.
I don't even have the option to choose an exchange account. They only give me POP and IMAP

This is great. Thanks! BTW if you have app settings app try changing DPI to 280 and Screen(dp) to 800x1280 on com.google.android.email. You will then have the tablet interface look which I prefer (also works with google mail).
Thank you
:good: Thank You. Works Perfect
Havent been on XDA for a while, but I searched for an updated stock messaging app thats been edited to remove the contact photos from every line in a text conversation and havent found anything yet. Just wanted to see if anyone uses another stock version that has the quick reply popup and also sends/receives pictures or if there is another app from the Play store that doesnt eat battery.

Its nice, but it doesnt do the quick reply pop up over the stock lockscreen. Always have to unlock and go to messages to read/reply. Kinda why I want to stick with a modified stock that just gets rid of the stupid contact photos.
