Has anyone hacked the email apk to bypass exchange security?
+1 for this...
The stock email app will not let me connect to my exchange server. It says that the device does not support the security policy required by my exchange server. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Dumb question...you tried Enhanced Email?
Someone post it up please. The email.apk

+1 for this.
I could connect to my works exchange with cm7 but not on stock.
Enhanced email works but it has major issues with ics. It FC when auto-sync is turned on. So I either get work emails or Gmail.

+1 could really need this!
Did you try to select "SSL/TLS Accept all certificates" in Security type ?
Alright guys I have unpacked those files and they are slightly different compared to the gingerbread email application which is based of the Seven application.
Will see what I can do.

Would it be possible if we use CM9 Email source?
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_Email/tree/ics
Based from it, we just need to modify the isActive function to return true under SecurityPolicy.java? Am I right?

I have the glide and have not been able to succefully receive ANY IMAP emails. I just recently switched from Sprint to AT&T, I have the 4gig data plan with teithering. My email account is with Go Daddy. I use these same excact settings on my laptop and on my old Epic phone. Both worked flawlessly. Now that I've switch I cannot get it to work on my glide. I tried removing and reinstalling the accounts. I've tried on the wife's phone as well. I can send out emails fine, but none will pull down. Here are the Go Daddy server settings.
Incoming: imap.secureserver.net port 993
Ougoing: smtpout.secureserver.net port 465
Using built in email client on Droid 2.3.5 non-rooted
I use these same setting on my desktop with Outlook and on my old Samsung Epic using WiFi with no problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks!
I don't have the glide but when i was setting up my corporate account for my job I has to change the security setting in the email client and the port it used. Might want to try the settings in there and see if that helps.

Yes I did that I used the godaddy setting Incoming: SSL port 465. I use the same setting on my old phone and my desktop. So I know they are correct, but my phone still won't receive an emails. Thanks for your input though!
That is a little odd then. Have you tried a different mail client? K9 works pretty good

K9 pulled my msgs right down super quick. I don't really care for the GUI, but it will have to work for now. I also called Samsung and they could care less that this is a bug with the Cap Glide. And wants me to try pop3. I hate pop3 and shouldn't have to use it, just be cause they have a bug in there software.
Anyways, thank for your help, K9 will do for now!

Thanks but my GoDaddy account only allow IMAP and POP3. Maybe in the future a custom rom will fix it.
I am currently using Enhanced Email because it doesn't force me to enter a PIN from the lockscreen (requirement from work's exchange server), but I prefer the stock E4GT email app. Does anyone have or know of a work around to having to enter a PIN with the stock app?
They have a stock email apk with security stripped out. Kind of a ***** to set up but it works great

I think this is what you are looking for. I haven't personally tested it because I am fortunate enough to not have to use exchange any longer, but several people that I have supplied this apk for said that it worked for exchange.
HowTo "push" using RootExplorer in the Toolkit link in my signature if you are unfamiliar.

You do know that circumventing that security policy can be grounds for termination.

I'm all for choice... here's the Samsung's Email.apk with the PIN requirement removed as well. It doesn't differ much from AOSP, but it's your choice.
This is for deodexed ROMs only.
Remove any accounts already setup in Email.
Place file in /system/app.
Reboot.
Re-setup accounts back into Email.

As someone who runs an exchange environment what you are doing is incredibly irresponsible. you deserve whatever comes from doing this.

As a side note, if you use Touchdown, then you can still secure the Exchange side without having to lock down the rest of the device. It's a much better overall client for Exchange anyway.

While I appreciate both of your concerns, you're both wrong in this case. My employer doesn't even know how it got turned on. It happened when we got a new server.
Being the VP of Operations, I don't think I will be fired seeing as the President wanted this too. Also, I always try to get as much detail as possible before I start handing out "advice" or telling strangers how to conduct their business.
I liked the stock email app on the galaxy S2, I figured that once I got my s3 that email would be similar, but it's not, it is much much worse. Is there any way to install the old mail app from the S2 on the S3?
I have tried the alternative email programs from the play store and I just don't like them.
Please help!
Thanks a million.
Enhanced Email...
I may not be correct, but.... I believe the GS2 used an email program built by Seven.
You may look and find an apk for Seven email+IM that should be similar. I personally cannot find a download link for it.
If you go their website, they do have a BETA Android program. http://community.seven.com/download.php Again, not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but may be worth a shot.
Edit: It appears they abandoned Android in the last year or something and the only client they currently are shown as making is the one for Hotmail's Android client. Sorry.

K-9 Mail is IMO a good email client. I don't know if it's one of the alternatives you tried and didn't like.
It's larger that Enhanced Email, but cheaper... (free)...
I'm new or I'd post a link to the Play store.
(I have no affiliation with K-9 Mail whatsoever.)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've tried all the free email apps on the play store and none of them really did it for me. Finally tried enhanced email too and that is a step in the right direction, hopefully I don't have any troubles from it.
p.s. I have the Gmail app, but I need to access my work email somehow.
Try touchdown by nitrodesk. It's one of the best

Only one I found I liked was Inomail,
What about the AOSP Google email? I think it looks great and works very well.
yea if you need to check an exchange acct at work I usually go between nitrodesk touchdown and moxier mail. One of those should be perfect for you I prefer touchdown really.

do you have the apks for AOSP?
the rom NoAOSP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759245
uses the email client from google nexus; a user there said it was the only email client they've used on the S3 that allowed them to connect to their work email.
perhaps download that rom, open the zip with 7zip and pull out the email.apk and put it on your phone.
try to install it normally, if not you may have to copy it to system/app with root explorer (reboot afterwards)
might be worth a look

In the SGS2 email you could make it inverted and control font size from the app.
I pushed the old app every way i could. No joy. May try a flashable zip, but I can't see that making much difference... I guess it would have to be ported.
I know we are in an early stage of development but just curious if there is a way to get a Gmail 4.2.
The whole zoomed out email view is awesome and it's probably only thing I'm missing. I will appreciate if you have any guidance.

For some reason on stock AT&T when going into Settings > Application Manager (Select ALL) I see two Gmail apps. One is Gmail 1.0 and the other is Gmail 4.1.2.
Anyone else notice this? Any idea why there are two of them and if both need to be deleted in order to install Gmail 4.2?

If you are rooted then use a File Manager like "Root Explorer" & go into /system/app & rename gmail.apk to gmail.apk.bak. Then copy the 4.2 gmail apk to /system/app and lastly change the permission (4.2 gmail.apk) to RW-R--R--.

Don't remove Gmail 1.0. It's useful label, which is responsible for the opening Gmail mails with Gmail by default.
Without Gmail 1.0 my phone is restarting by itself each time when I try to set the default access to the mails.

Email apk wasn't included in the first few builds. Find it somewhere and install as system app and fix the file permission s and it should work.
